Definitely a nice place to park for the night even when it's pouring with rain, like it was the one most recent night I was here. Love the beach in the morning when the weather is good... absolutely dreamy place to hang out in warmer weather. Never in the bad weather though, ew. But that used to be my thing and maybe it's yours. There are a few weird characters coming by in the middle of the night but the same could be said about your mother's bedroom.

There are no deer really but you might see coyotes so keep your dogs leashed. It is also not a foresty island, it is mostly made up of the wastewater treatment plant at the center, with this 2.6 mile loop trail around the perimeter. That does not take away from the views of the islands and the city skyline. There is a beautiful Celtic cross memorial up a small hill on the trail, that looks out to Boston and commemorates many Irish immigrants who perished and were buried in unmarked graves, as were many Native Americans here. There is a fishing pier and a rock wall walkway. No real facilities or food, so bring your picnic. There are many benches to sit on, and the flat rock wall itself. The walk from the Deer Island parking lot to the Celtic cross is about 12 minutes, depending on your pace. Watch the planes line up to make their meticulous touchdown on Logan's 2-foot landing strip. :) It is a pleasant and reflective stroll and you can do as much or as little as you wish.

That said, there were a few frustrating parts of the experience. If you're not a Gloucester resident ( i'm a massachusetts resident) parking is $48, which is quite expensive. Even though I had a reservation, I was directed to the farthest parking lot, about a half-mile walk from the beach. There were plenty of open spots in the resident parking area, but we still weren't allowed to park there. The food and beach shop were also very pricey, so I'd recommend bringing your own snacks and drinks if you can. Overall, it's a great beach, but be prepared for high parking fees, a longer walk, and expensive concessions.

I've been living on the North Shore for almost 9 years now, and today was my first time at Wingaersheek Beach. I can gladly say this is now my favorite beach ever!! We got there around 11 AM and stayed until 4 PM, and honestly, I could've stayed even longer. If you're not a Gloucester resident, parking is $40+ AND you need to make a reservation in advance. Personally, I actually like this because it helps keep the beach from getting overly crowded, especially since it's a smaller beach and, in my opinion, the best one! They also have a small food spot with burgers, hot dogs, salads, ice cream, lemonade, iced coffee, and more. There's also a little shop with beach essentials like chairs, sandcastle toys, towels, etc., which is super convenient. And of course, they have bathrooms! Such a beautiful and lovely beach. Seriously, I'm already looking forward to coming back!
