So if you can see Wag hotels from where you think the front is, it means you need to turn the car around and go over one block. I walked around for 10 mins trying to figure out how to get inside. I could HEAR basketball being played inside, but couldn't find the entrance since all the gates were closed and locked. So, there's a parking lot, once you've found the right side of the building but usually, there's a parking fee. I suggest parking on the street, to be honest. There's plenty of street parking. The inside: four courts, but it is very nice. The floors are taken care of. It does kind of smell musty though. Unfortunately, I didn't see a refill water machine, which is unfortunate, since this is a gym. There are vending machines with water ($2) and Gatorade ($3). You better hope it works! LOL or bring a TON of water.

There's a beautiful court, yoga room, studios, bikes, pool, punching bags. And Ruby is amazing. I've been a member for nearly a year and a friend has joined in the past several months. Both of us continue to rave about this gym. Thank you, the Club.

5/16/26 FIFTH UPDATE…read more Sadly, need to make yet another update. Two things that are CONSISTENT at the Club at City Center. Loud phone conversations in the locker room despite posted rules prohibiting all cell phone use. Many people use the locker room before work or after workouts as a calm transition space, not a place to listen to conversations or loud personal calls echoing through the room. The Club has that rule but the enforcement is none & so the rule is unfortunately useless. Even more concerning is the ongoing phone use inside the sauna, despite clear "no phones" signage. Obviously the sauna is a uniquely vulnerable space where people are often fully or partially unclothed, physically recovering, mentally decompressing, and trying to have a few quiet moments of sanctuary and self-care. Phones in that environment create obvious privacy concerns because they contain cameras and recording capabilities, regardless of whether someone claims they are "using" them or not. Zero enforcement there which is more than a bit stressful on the regular as a normal sauna experience becomes useless to try to maintain. 2/23/26 FOURTH UPDATE Updated 3 months ago Dear The Club at City Center Management, My spouse and | left the gym today around noon (Monday). Unfortunately no hot water. Other gym members said they thought it was because Mondays are a big gym day because everyone wants to get their week going on the right foot, and unfortunately they run out of hot water by noon on Mondays. Dear The Club at City Center Management Team, Please fix this core issue. Thank you, The Club at City Center members 2/13/26 THIRD UPDATE: Unfortunately just left the gym around 11:30am. Only tepid water to be found. Hot water done for the day, I guess. Dear Management, please fix this core issue, thank you. 1/15/26 UPDATE: Just left the gym today and a group of around 10 women were upset that there was zero hot water. They are swimmers - I am not-but apparently they don't heat the pool either. According to these women, who know the owner, the gym is struggling - you are charging members 175/month - do better business.

It doesn't matter if you want to do cardio, weights, lifting, barbells, dumbbells, stretching, balancing, they will have the equipment for you. They also have a decent schedule of classes. What are the coolest aspects of this gym is the basketball court. It fills up routinely with pick up games and it's not hard to find other people to play with. This gym is the parking. I typically end up parking on the street, and the area gets pretty dicey. My car was broken into one time. It's important to not leave anything in your car or people will come break in. A lot of people don't know this, but the YMCA offers low income programs that provide subsidize memberships. It's not free, but they help out with the monthly fee in part.

Let's start with the pros: it's in a good location, it's a sizable space, and they have a lot of cardio machines. I recently had to wait for a machine, and that may have been the first time I've experienced that here. Now for the cons: 1) Like other East Bay YMCA locations, there is no towel service. I have exercised at YMCA locations all over the Bay Area, and I've noticed that on the Peninsula and in San Francisco, Marin, and the South Bay, members do not have to bring their own towels. I get that it's a luxury, but I wish the holdouts in the East Bay would get with the program. 2) There is no hot tub. (This is something the Berkeley YMCA does have.) 3) Machines and other things are out of order for extended periods of time. (See photos.) 4) The water pressure in the men's locker room is lackluster. 5) They renovated the men's locker room last year and it is certainly nicer, but I don't understand why they insist on those mats that feel slightly less painful than stepping on legos. (See photo.) 6) The staff does not answer the phone - at least not consistently. Earlier this month, I called three times over the course of a week to ask about something I accidentally left in the locker room and to check about holiday hours. All calls were during business hours, and no one ever picked up. I left a voicemail the first time and never got a call back. Am I going to continue using the YMCA? Yes - it's a 10-minute walk from home, and it has the basic gym necessities for me. I'm unlikely to recommend it until they start putting in a little more effort, though.

Downtown Oakland Branch YMCA - I got on this machine, only to realize that it was not working at all. Staff hadn't gotten around to even labeling it "out of order."
