A large library with private study rooms available for booking. The pool is so spacious and bright! Large pool available for lane swim and a decent size kid pool. There is also a waterslide and small splash pad that isn't always in use/ turned on. The onsite gym isn't the largest but has decent equipment and a nice large 3 lane track (slow, medium, fast) that overlooks the gymnasium from above. Parking garage has been under construction for years. It also doesn't connect to the rec centre directly during this time of construction/ sometimes the elevator is not operational which is inconvenient especially in the winter when you have to exit the parking garage only to walk a few meters to enter the rec centre.

It makes my local one, Milliken Community Centre, look like it's not trying hard enough! I was here for Happy Cute Mart yesterday, which occupied one of the multi-purpose rooms. When I was briefly heading towards the south entrance, I saw folks studying in the library, which was fairly close to where this event was. The room that held this event was large. The south entrance doors were accessible, with buttons to open the door and no steps to deal with. Just before this multi-purpose room, you had to option of walking up steps or using the ramp. I chose the ramp to test it out. It was good. I didn't use the washrooms during my 1.5-hour stay. They are available throughout the centre. This community centre is impressive. It houses two NHL-sized rinks that are 85 x 200 feet in length. Seating capacities are somewhat intimate for NHL regulation-sized rinks at 300 and 600 folks, depending on which rink you are at. There are six dressing rooms for each rink. This place also has a therapy pool. It has an accessibility handrail throughout the pool and deck areas, which is nice. There's also a wheelchair ramp. The pool temperature is set at 35°C. It has one gymnasium that I never got to see. I like that there's a seniors centre that is the home of the Thornhill Seniors Club. It houses one of three City of Markham Health and Fitness Centres. It also has a dance and wellness studio. Pretty cool! I feel the need to return and check out some of these programs out. I'm not using my local community centres as much as I should. There was a lot of parking around the building. I managed to find a decent parking spot on a Saturday afternoon despite the event's popularity on top of regular programs offered by this centre. I liked everything that I saw while I was here. I didn't get a chance to explore the entire space, but I knew that there is a Tim Hortons on site, 2 skating rinks, a library, plus, washrooms are available throughout the community centre. There were plenty of parking spots around the building. Though for this holiday event, the lot was maxed out, and we had to park further out. The local bus actually comes through the parking lot too.

The organic nature this rink takes on, slight incline from the entrance to the natural obstacle course of bumps adds to the overall feel when enjoying the fresh air as you are doing laps and hit the unsuspecting speed bump to wake you up a bit. The staff are very friendly and love the high tech Zamboni that is deployed at the end of each 45 minute skating interval

I don't know how much of a reflection it is on the centre since its seasonal work, but they probably had the best and most mature camp leaders they've had ever. I used the workout area one day, and though it wasn't massive, it was pretty good and I especially liked that they also had a number of fairly unique machines, such as self-propelling treadmills. But it wasn't just about the interior. Outside, there's a giant kids play structure, a splash pad, and even a small turf field - along with other things like basketball courts. They also have a covered area for a full sized rink, but it was useful during the summer camp as it was another activity area which being covered is a bonus during the summer heat. There's really nothing lacking here. FWIW, I did use the library once just for my own reading once. Nothing special about it, but nice enough and it wasn't as chaotic as others described. Hopefully they got better at managing noise since the last reviews.

Swimming lessons, party space rentals, practically any sport you can think of, a gym, and free equipment outside like a playground, basketball area, soccer field, e.t.c. The prices are dirt cheap, the library has free computers and nintendo switches for use, community events are hosted every day of the week, and during seasonal holidays they put up decoractions and have activities scattered around the place. I vividly remember the day before halloween where I entered the inflatable corn maze with my friends, thrashing around in there until the maze was noticeably shaking from the outside and we were asked to leave. Then we did it again a few hours later after visiting other activities and, most importantly, after the employees switched shifts. Gore has a snack bar which I've bought countless jamaican patties from, I've had a birthday party here, and I could never imagine my life without this place. The people who run it are innovative and kind, doing things like lighting up the basketball courts outside until 11pm, just because they know people play there. The water is constantly moving from one end and drains at the other, it's wading level(can't swim this) so just below knees but way over the ankles, there are kids having the greatest time here, people in swim wear and lounging on the beach chairs along the water way, a large shaded pavilion you could picnic on(bring blanket as there looked to be 2 tables). No admission fees, free parking - bring your own chairs and enjoy the game with the town of Newmarket! They had a drinking section that was gated off - a bar in the back of the event. They had an ice cream truck and a food truck - Sinfully (I think) and the Newmarket Lion Club had stations set up selling drinks and snacks. It was great to see the community come together and show their support for our beloved Raptors. It was so much fun.

Also, there were some outdoor performances. The weather was ok, just too cold I felt. There were lot of volunteers to help out. It was a long lineup for the free popcorn, my kid enjoyed the Lego station so much. The swimming pool has a big dolphin, which also attracted my daughter too. Then the Aquaquest classes that were each kid's rite of passage. At one point it became cool to bike here, hang out, and hit up the awesome yellow big kids' slide. Then you stopped coming as a teenager 'cause Wonderland and the beach were cooler. And then one day I came back for the Lane Swim to cure my saaaadd, academia-induced neck pain. I had become an adult. Not much has changed over the years. The giant "Richmond Hill" flag still hangs at the front of the pool. The ceiling here was likely exceptionally high and sunny for '90s standards, and is still impressive today. I *think* the "big kids' slide" is still the same one from childhood and it hasn't aged a day in 20 years. Change rooms are large and clean and let you avoid people. The staff are nice, it doesn't cost a fortune to come here, and their public lane swim hours are good (approx. 11am-1pm and 9-10pm on weekdays, 11-12:30 on weekends). The pool at 25m is standard for a community centre with a generous deep end, the warm pool is equally fun and spacious. My only complaint would be the narrowness of the small lane, and that the hairdryers in the women's washrooms are way too high for the 99% Asian demographic. Guess the town of R-Hill hadn't anticipated this turnout, lawls. 5 stars because this pool was already neat during its day and has kept up beautifully over the years. I've visited other R-Hill pools like the Centennial, where staff are rude a.f., or the Wave Pool, which is fun if you're under 12 and intolerable if you're over. I'll hit up a few more pools before finalizing the verdict, but for now Bayview Hill remains a first-rate spot to get your exercise in.

As a parent who cares deeply about the well-being of my children and other families in the community, I feel obligated to raise these issues publicly because the current conditions may place visitors, especially children, at risk. My first concern is the parking and traffic management outside the center. During the event, there were far more visitors than available parking spaces. As a result, vehicles were parked improperly, including along main walking routes used by families and children. This created congestion and confusion. Even more concerning, several drivers were moving through the area at unsafe speeds while children were walking between the entrance and driveway. I personally witnessed situations where children appeared close to being struck by passing vehicles. There were no visible staff members outside to direct traffic, no temporary traffic control measures, and no clear signage to guide drivers. In addition, some corners of the parking area have poor visibility, making it difficult for drivers to see pedestrians approaching. Installing convex safety mirrors at blind corners would significantly improve visibility and reduce the risk of accidents. Without immediate improvements, the site appears vulnerable to a serious incident. My second concern is overcrowding inside the building. Once inside, the center was extremely crowded, with little visible organization or crowd control. There did not appear to be anyone monitoring the number of attendees or guiding visitors. This raised concerns about emergency preparedness and fire safety. In the event of an evacuation or emergency, it is unclear how people would exit quickly and safely. A busy public venue should have clear occupancy controls, proper supervision, and emergency planning procedures in place at all times. Another issue was the lack of attentiveness from staff at the information desk. I observed a young staff member focused on a cellphone while visitors around him appeared confused and in need of assistance. At a time when many guests required guidance, staff should be actively engaged, approachable, and available to help. Public-facing employees should understand that they represent the center and are often the first point of contact for visitors. Most disappointing was an interaction with a staff member identified as Eva. I politely asked for information about the event, but her response was dismissive and unfriendly. She stated that the activity was run by another group and was "not her business," then told me to ask them myself. Regardless of which organization was hosting the event, staff on duty inside the center should respond respectfully and make reasonable efforts to assist visitors. Basic courtesy, patience, and professionalism are expected in any community facility. Overall, I am disappointed that such an important community center appears to prioritize attendance numbers over safety and visitor experience. I strongly urge management to address the following issues immediately: improve parking and traffic control, install mirrors at blind corners, review occupancy and fire safety procedures, ensure staff remain attentive while on duty, and provide customer service training for employees.

105 Gibson Centre is a community centre owned by a Christian church. It doesn't look very big from…read morethe outside, but it's quite spacious inside. Parking is along the outside perimeter of the building and fills up quickly if there's an event. I was only in the open area (room 108, which is 2,340 square feet) and the kitchen (room 109) for an event. It didn't start off well when we arrived. The tables and chairs were supposed to already be set up, but they weren't. This delayed the opening of the event. Since it's an open area, people using other parts of the centre may wander into the space. The kitchen was a big space with multiple sinks, fridges, ovens, a flattop grill, and stoves with a large island. Two things that were a bummer were that the dishwasher did not work and that there was water dripping from the ceiling vent, which worsened when it started raining outside.
