As someone who has owned many dogs over the years and visited numerous veterinary practices throughout the area, I can confidently say that Amboy Avenue Animal Hospital is exceptional. When I was first referred to Dr. Murtha, I was warned that "she's pricey." My response then is the same as it is now: you get what you pay for. When it comes to my pets, I will always choose quality medicine over bargain prices. Dr. Murtha is honest, compassionate, and incredibly knowledgeable. She doesn't tell you what you want to hear--she tells you what your pet needs to hear. She will always recommend what is in your animal's best interest, even if it's not the easiest conversation. That level of integrity is exactly what I want in a veterinarian. Over the years, Dr. Murtha has cared for all six of my dogs through just about every medical issue imaginable--from routine care to complex health challenges. There is no one I trust more with their lives. Her expertise, calm demeanor, and genuine concern for both her patients and their families are second to none. Her staff deserves just as much praise. Every single person in the office is kind, professional, patient, and truly cares about the animals that come through their doors. They know our dogs, they know us, and they treat us like family. As for the cost? I honestly don't find Amboy Avenue Animal Hospital expensive at all. In fact, I could name several local veterinarians who charge significantly more while providing far less personalized care and expertise. I am incredibly grateful for everything Dr. Murtha and her amazing team have done for my furry family. They have earned my trust, my loyalty, and my highest recommendation. I've been bringing my dog to this practice for 9 years, long before it became CARE VET…read more Unfortunately, my first visit under the new ownership was very disappointing solely because of Dr. Alina Tsavera the medical director . I did not have a personal interaction with her but she made a very neglectful decision on a matter involving my pets medical care . My dog was prescribed ear drops, but the vet tech did not attach the correct tip when administering them in the office, which resulted in about 75% of the medication being lost. I didn't realize until I got home that the bottle was almost empty. When I called, the situation was not handled well by her and the explanation given by the tech did not match what happened. After spending nearly $500 at the visit, it was frustrating to feel like Dr Tsavera's solution was not that the office replace them rather I can buy more . That insinuates I am at fault . Why should I pay for another bottle ? I never used the first bottle prescribed only the tech did in the office and it was almost empty when I took it out of the box at my house and opened it. She was unwilling to allow the office to take any means of responsibility or hold staff accountable . She shifted blame and automatically pointed fault at the customer. I stated if this was not handled with consideration and fairness I would no longer bring my dog there . She was satisfied with loosing a patient over 40$ ear drops . She also was aware there was not enough drops for my dogs ear infection due to the tech mishandling them . That alone proves who is behind this business a cold and dismissive heart does not belong in this business ! Shane, the office manager, was wonderful--kind, helpful, and understanding. Dr. Magee at this practice is wonderful as well ! However, Dr. Alina Tsavera was nothing short of a nightmare !

So I'm disappointed in this most recent visit a few days ago. My cat has liquid diarrhea that just…read morestarted yesterday however, I wanted to take him to the vet to fix the issue early. The new Dr that took over recommended an injection to bring his appetite back then gave me medication to administer to my cat every 12 hours- that was $157. On top of that, the Dr. recommended blood work and if they checked his poop - the entire visit would've been close to $500. Crazy thing is!!?? That includes none of his yearly shots that he's supposed to get. Long story short - my cat did have an appetite after the injection (same day) BUT after giving him the other medication via mouth - it seems like his symptoms got worse. He started drooling at the mouth and still has liquid diarrhea. At this point, I just purchased some stuff from Petco based off the reviews and hope that does the trick. The previous Dr that owned the practice literally charged me $35 for medication that actually worked - my cat was healed in about 2-3 days. The staff were nice - the Dr was very nice- everyone was great!! However, the issue wasn't resolved smh.

I tell Sean, and he said Dr. Nazar whom we saw, can perform surgery on my pet if we decide to move forward. Now, I'm feeling comfortable as Dr. Nazer seem good. I tell the front desk this, and they said they removed me and can't unchange it! Nancy at front desk mishears me and mistates to Dr. Ferreira that "Sean said that they can do the surgery" when all he said was, I have the option to do it if I wanted to. While we were talking in the room, Dr. Ferreira apparently told them to remove and don't schedule because when I said I'd want to do it for my cat's sake, she replied that they won't help me because I told them that i didn't like their services and told me to go elsewhere. Just WOW. When I tried to speak up, she'd accuse me of "yelling at her". She expects you to go silently w/o protest after she kicks you out of the office. When i told her, "Basically your siding w/ your front desk staffs", she replied, "I'm protecting this whole office." She's talking to me w/ one hand on her hip and looking at me hard and mean. I realize that I don't want to come here, like ever. There are some PROS: Dr. Nazer seems solid and good. Sean was deescalating when he took me to the room and talked. CONS: I waited 55 min yesterday to be seen b/c there was just 1 vet. There was an urgent case, so on those days, expect to wait a long time. Front desk is incompetent and mishears all the time. What she hears you say and what you actually said are different. Same with what she actually says and thinks she says are different. Cost is high. I paid almost $1K for basic exams for 2 cats. Had 1 blood work done on 1 cat and cleaned out his ears and got an eardrop. This EXCLUDES any teeth surgery procedures.

They ran several test and diagnosed her with a skin allergy. The doctor was thorough and answered all my questions. You cannot enter the building because of Covid. One of the assistants came outside and took notes about what was going on with my dog and was very detailed regarding what my concerns were. Once they were ready someone came to the door to get my dog. An overall pleasant experience.

Whether it be regular care, or emergency care, I have found them to be very professional, but also kind and considerate. Having always had a lot of animals, I've learned to ask the prices before having something done and they are very good about letting you know the cost of each procedure and making suggestions about what steps to consider. I love the on line scheduling, but most of all, I love their patience, especially with my one dog who is a drama queen.

She followed up with me about all my concerns regarding an IKA on my dog's tail. Ultimately she helped me to dodge a bullet as she emailed me a list of pet dermatologists. I took my dog to one of these dermatologists and she will be doing minimally invasive Laser surgery on the IKA. We dodged a bullet. If Dr. Levine hadn't recommended a possible derm consult we would have gone through with an expensive and involved surgery to remove the mass with the possibility of very bad outcomes.
