We currently have 2 cats and 2 dogs and I have gone to WVG with our animals for years. I've seen most of the vets and we have also been in Union for emergencies. Whether it be regular care, or emergency care, I have found them to be very professional, but also kind and considerate. Having always had a lot of animals, I've learned to ask the prices before having something done and they are very good about letting you know the cost of each procedure and making suggestions about what steps to consider. I love the on line scheduling, but most of all, I love their patience, especially with my one dog who is a drama queen. read more

We love our vet, but are very unhappy with those running the business. They have started running "sales" on healthcare where they reduce the price of wellness visits, or offer free vaccines on a certain day, never at a time that makes sense for our pets' health. This is tantamount to price discrimination and encourages pet owners to defer healthcare waiting for a price reduction, to the detriment of pet health. We've been using them for close to 40 years but are considering a change if this nonsense continues. read more

Had to bring my cat in and felt really calm once was inside the facility. Staff was fabulous and didn't have to wait long. Everyone treated my pet with the utmost care and love. The doctors were fantastic, they listened and and evaluated and explained the treatment. I was happy with the results and will recommend this place for sure. read more

I would not recommend this practice. They are deceptive with your money. I once scheduled an appointment because my normal vet couldn't fit us in as quickly as this vet could, and my cat was not feeling well. I was asked for a $75 deposit, and was told it would be applied to my first visit. I asked what would happen if I canceled because I found an earlier appointment somewhere else, and was told that although the deposit wouldn't be refunded, I could use it at any future appointment. I eventually canceled the appointment with over 48 hours' notice because I got an earlier appointment and my cat needed to see someone asap. So I call today, because of a similar issue--my normal vet is closed today and we are going on vacation so I want a big bump on my cat to be checked before we leave. And I'm told I need to provide another $75, because apparently the first $75 was "taken" (these were their words) because six months has passed. They claim they "can't get it back" as if they have no ability to waive the $75 fee for a new appointment. They say their front desk didn't even know having to use it within six months was their policy until I called, and that's why the receptionist told me I could use it anytime in a future appointment. What an awful way to run your business. Have your front desk telling people they can apply their deposit to any future appointment, acknowledge that was their mistake because they didn't know that their policy required that to take place within six months, but not even offer to waive the deposit because it was already "taken" (by them). I will no longer consider using them as my backup vet. read more

Overpriced and getting more expensive every time I go they really try to up sell you on everything

Today we had to bring our dog in for teeth issues six months after having paid over $500 to have his teeth cleaned and 6-7 extractions made. After finding the problem in the same area as one of the extractions made six months ago and his having ONE extraction today (plus a biopsy) we pick him up and we have to pay over $1900! Now we have never had any complaints about the veterinarians or most of the techs and I understand a few hundred dollars for a biopsy and the cost of extractions but for 1 extraction and one biopsy almost $2000??? I just don't understand it and I'm looking at the invoice and I'm waiting for something to magically jump out at me and say oh this is why it's expensive but you know that's not happening and all I can think of is, especially when you're on a fixed income, is somebody's pretty greedy. I mean for the last 30 years we've been all about being responsible and paying our bills and doing the right thing financially and it is stuff like this why sometimes you can't. I mean the only reason we were able to afford it is because this is the time of the month our Social Security goes into the bank. So now we're looking to find veterinarians that aren't quite as greedy as these guys, and still have a high standard of care when they treat your pet, which they do, I would never take that away from them, but they have successfully driven us away completely as they got more and more expensive over the years (at least 6 years or more) with each visit and little by little with each said visit now leading us to this place and we are done. read more

Our two kittens were diagnosed with feline distemper and their prognosis was grim. Despite being told the mortality rate exceeded 80% we decided to admit them to the WVG hospital so they could fight the disease. The care they received from every doctor and vet tech was compassionate, caring and truly amazing! I'm happy to say they both survived and are healthy and thrivingThe team at WVG nicknamed them the " miracle kittens." Dr. Witham continues to provide wonderful care to them. Both the vet and the vet tech were super nice, and gentle, with Bailey (who started trembling the minute he saw us put his poop in a Zip-Loc, because he knows what that means). Brought my dog for senior wellness visit and rabies vaccine. After waiting 45 minutes and seeing about 8 animals go in ahead of me the front desk girl saw I was getting irritated so they took us in. They pushed for 3 vaccines and blood work. The vet took 3 minutes with my dog and sent in the tech to do the dirty work of charging me $776.00. This place is all about volume and money. My dog was over vaccinated and is now very sick and can barely walk due to rear end paralysis. I'm hoping this disappears in a few days. I will never return! Highly unethical practice. The management at this practice is equivalent to dealing with High Schoolers. I arranged a payment agreement with the office manager before bringing my pet in. My dog was in dire straits & although I realize a practice needs to make money, they ONLY cared about the money. They finally agreed to book an appointment for me after I was hysterically panicking as my dog was short of breath. Upon taking my dog back for a follow up, as her condition hasn't improved, I sat awkwardly in the waiting room as the manager and staff GOSSIPED about me. I am a grown woman who paid my bill. This behavior is so absurd I was frankly in shock. My dog was rushed to a back room and at that point I was told I couldn't accompany her. I was so emotionally upset at this point that I should have taken my dog and left but I wanted her to be treated. The manager put me in a small room separated from my dog and told me I couldn't see her until they were done examining her. This was done to intimidate me and harass me. I left with my dog who by the way didn't get diagnosed properly and needed subsequent treatment at an ETHICAL practice shortly after. He was shocked the condition was not found upon a normal exam. I am writing this review to warn others of the manager and staff. I paid the bill. The way I was treated could have been reported to many veterinary associations as it was blatantly unethical. I felt harassed, abused and like I was dealing with children. Steer clear of them. There are many other practices in the area that will appreciate your business and not price gouge you in emotional crises. The fact that my prior review was voted as FUNNY by several staff members should show you just how professional they are. read more

Dr. Maus is so great with my our dogs. A few years ago we first brought our youngest and very shy shiba to him and he was so attentive and helpful. Not only is he great with our dogs, but he genuinely cares about them as well. He has gotten to know me and my husband and we are extremely comfortable with him caring for our dogs and we really trust him. When we found a mass on my older dog's hind leg, Dr. Maus always returned my hundreds of calls and answered all of my concerns. I can be very hyper when it comes to my dogs and he is always very patient and thoroughly answers all of my questions. It's great to have a vet that actually knows my dogs and cares about them. read more

I have been coming here for over twenty years with numerous dogs. Several of my dogs have had serious problems. Dr. Witham is wonderful. Always has time to discuss any question that I have and his diagnostics and advice are spot on. As of late, the front office has been somewhat abrupt but I attribute that to the stress of Covid and the overwhelming amount of business that they have. Do your pet a favor and if you suspect your dog is seriously Ill do not go here. While the staff is friendly they do not have the knowledge or foresight to take the proper steps in achieving a correct diagnosis. They let my pet go home without doing the proper tests to diagnosis her illness taking away gravely precious time where if she had been treated more rapidly we could have seen a better outcome. These doctors do not have the proper education to save your animal when it really comes down to it. Please if your dog is sick take them straight to the garden state vet specialists in tinton falls right away at their emergency department where they can get the care they deserve. Westfield vet failed the one thing I love most in the world and I don't want that happening to anyone else. If we saw a human doctor and they did this they would be sued for negligence. read more

I love the Westfield vet because all the people are very friendly and make sure that your little buddy gets the best possible care. I come here for general care for my two guinea pigs and I'm confident that they offer the best care they can and that my two guinea pigs are in good hands. One thing that I'm very happy with is that this communication between them and you is very good. I've been to many vets with different pets that both me and my family have had and the level of communication is questionable at best. Westfield on the other hand is very good and upfront with you about everything. They let you know what your options are and they let you know how much it will cost. I knew that they cared when they told me about all the options and didn't recommend the most expensive option just to make money. Im very happy to recommend Westfield to anyone who needs to take their little friends to the vet. First time we took our dog there it seemed fine. The second time, not so much. They told us to come back for a prescription if the symptoms didn't go away. We were told a note was in the file...no problem. I've been trying to get them to respond for 2 days. 4 phone calls...and I get promised a call back. Nothing happens. I really think they don't care about the animals...just the $$. When we needed a chargeable visit we go an appointment the next day. The staff here is amazing and well deserving of praise. My dog had surgery on his kneecap (luxated patellla) and everyone was so attentive and keen on making sure that his needs were met. The at-home rehab care was explained to me in great detail and I could really tell that they had his best interests in mind. REVIEW EDITED: Disappointed with Westfield Veterinary Group. It took them 2 days to diagnose my english bull dog with an intestine blockage. After boarding him nearly 2 nights and paying $2,200 in bills, we were told we had to take him to Oradell Animal Hospital because he may be septic. Oradell performed emergency surgery, which lead to an additional $5,000 bill. He ended up having a cob of corn stuck in his intestine, he was not septic. If you value your money and your pet's well being, I would recommend you look elsewhere. UPDATE: The practice manager contacted me after this review, we had a difference in opinion based upon the notes the vets wrote for our case, but regardless it was nice for them to follow up. This is the second time our bull dog had an intestine blockage. The first time the vet in Edgwater diagnosed the blockage immediately and we took him to Oradell within a hour of the diagnosis. The frustration is that it took so long for the firm guidance that surgery was necessary. read more

Bad, Bad, Bad I brought my very old and critically ill cat there to be put down. It was clear to us, after much hand-wringing that this had to be done considering out pet's condition. The WVM people, despite our clear direction, tried to sell us tests etc. They ultimately did as we directed, but then tried to charge us for their "evaluation." I refused to pay the excess, and were told that in less I paid their excess charges in full, they would not attend to the cremation of my cat. In other words, they tried to blackmail me and made a heart-wrenching situation for my family worse. These are BAD PEOPLE. I am making a claim with the State Board of Veterinary Examiners, and the Wesfield PD. Stay away at all costs. If there isnt another 24-hour facility in your area, then drive further to one. read more

I feel so betrayed by this vet group that I have used for years and recommended to others. A primary reason for my past loyalty was my assumption that there would always be a decent vet available to see a sick animal within a few days time. When my senior cat appeared to be suffering from an infection, I was given the first available appointment SIX DAYS later. I called every morning when the offices opened to try to find a cancelled appointment, so I ended up taking my cat to their Urgent Care Center just to get a basic blood panel done, and the vet prescribed an antibiotic. When the day of my appointment filially came, I was desperately calling other vet practices to find someone to come and euthanize my cat who was beyond help. It's so sad, cruel and unethical to shut regular customers out of care. Only when I began talking to friends about this experience did I hear that others who used this practice have experienced this very issue, scrambling to find any vet group who would see their sick animal. I've grown increasingly disappointed and dissatisfied with the quality of the vets on staff here. It's completely hit or miss and I've had a few who seem indifferent to my dogs, barely engaging with them. Well visits and sick visit exams are not thorough. It is very expensive and I do feel like we are being overcharged. Everything is very expensive. That said, the staff and those assisting the vets are wonderful, interested, caring and great attitudes. I'm looking to make a change but during the pandemic it's been difficult to do that. read more

My daughter had to put her pet of 15 years down. I cannot tell you how hard this was for her and for the family. It was Sunday and we knew we were going to have a hard time finding a place to help us. Westfield was our savior. They were so compassionate, kind, gentle, loving and they did everything to make our pet comfortable along with giving us the time needed to say our goodbyes. I highly recommend Westfield. Dr. Day in the Westfield office is the best vet I have ever been to. He took care of my cat Buzz who had a difficult journey at the end of his life with lymphoma. Dr. Day provided him with such expert and compaSS Iona the care that I can not say enough good things about him. He answered my very phone call and when it was time to put my Buzz to sleep he could not have done it in a more compassionate way allowing him to pass so peacefully with me petting him knowing he was loved. Any time we spent waiting for our appointment was completely worth it for the quality of care we received and the time he dedicated to us to provide Buzz with the most excellent of care. read more

Westfield Vet hospital is more concerned about making money than helping animals. Westfield Vet knows our animals! We've had them there. We send them all the medical records, because we work with another animal hospital. Our one dog needed thyroid medicine and Westfield refused to give it to us even with a prescription from the other vet, because they "needed to see the pet". ALL ABOUT MONEY!!! We will NEVER go to this hospital again. We'll take our pets in emergency situations to Iselin!!! GOOD BYE Westfield!! Everyone I speak to says how lousy they are!! read more

We rushed my Leo kitty here when he was sick one night at 1:00am. They were very professional and pleasant to deal with. We forgot to grab bland cat food on our way out and the facility didn't remind us (truly our fault not theirs). Very lovely group of people I dealt with and huge benefit that they are available 24/7. Overall great experience but prefer my Vet instead, always calling after a visit to make sure Leo is ok. Definitely don't hesistate to bring your animals here though for an emergency visit! they know what they're doing. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. I made an appointment for 3 of my animals for 11:00, 11:30, and 11:40 AM. I was running a little late for the 11AM appointment and told them I was okay with missing my first appointment since I would be there at 11:30 and they told me I'd have to reschedule even though I could make it for my two appointments. I don't understand how my animals are being denied if I had set appointments made and although I missed one, I still had two more. The receptionist was very rude and did not care whatsoever. Ever since my primary Vet at Westfield Veterinary Group left I have felt like I am just a dollar sign. I have tried a few different Veterinarians and haven't really found one that I feel comfortable with yet. I was trying to stay with this group but I think I am done and need to find another vet. Today I called and asked a followup question for a Doctor who had seen my dog as an emergency recently. A receptionist called back to give me my answer and although I have repeatedly ask for my home phone number to be the primary number they called my cell. Which I did not answer. I found this disturbing that they can not enter a correct phone number to call back. The receptionist Jen? even argued with me, and talked over me, on the phone about the phone number for the call back. I was waiting for the Doctor to call me back and I was told that if it is a question that is simple then someone else calls back. I was told it is not customary for the Doctor to return all calls. Really? What ever happened to the customer is always right and good old fashioned customer service. I travel far for this practice and I think I won't be doing that for much longer. Recently, I referred a friend whose geriatric dog is anemic and she was also very unhappy with the treatment she and her dog received. Bottom line is these employees are probably overworked and the owner has just over expanded this practice without proper staffing. I will say I the vet care has always been good but the attitudes of the employees not so much. There is no need for me to travel an hour one way to be treated like just another dollar sign. read more
