    Charred Carrots

OMG, dinner and drinks were delicious. I had researched this place before leaving home in California. I reserved a table this morning. The cocktails were yummy - I had the blueberry thyme one - and we proceeded to enjoy the beets, charred carrots, hanger steak to die for, and sausage pizza. We are so full. We sat inside and were well taken care of. The indoors was not full on a Monday night and not overly loud. Wish we could come here often. Thank you!

Great experience. Cocktails were great. Really enjoyed the shaved salad, pork tenderloin, hanger steak, and whole flounder.

Food (5/5): Ah, we've been trying to eat here for a long time but reservations are hard to get! We finally ate here it was amazing! The pizzas are some of the best I've ever had - the butternut squash pizza was just perfect- the sage and Parmesan were so good. The pepperoni pizza was also really great - I loved the small cup pepperonis. Service (5/5): Our server was kind and attentive. Ambiance (3/5): It was a cold winter night and we were crammed into a tent on the back porch. Not exactly the best ambience though the quality of the food makes up for it.

We had no reservation, but we still went to see if they had any open seating around 5:30pm, and we got seated right away in their heated outdoor patio! The restaurant gives very cozy, rustic vibes - very warm. Service was great, the waiters were super attentive, and the food was absolutely delicious! They serve family-style, and they recommended ordering 3-4 items for 2 people. Hanger Steak - If there's one thing you must order, THIS IS IT! Paired with the chimichurri and aioli sauce, it was **chef's kiss** Grilled Oysters - Oysters were well-balanced with garlic and cheese and tasted super fresh, no surprise being right next door to public fish and oyster (hehe) Roasted Mushrooms & Polenta - This was the surprise of the night, where the oyster mushrooms had a citrus/tangy taste, and the polenta almost tasted like baked mac & cheese, but WAY better, especially paired with the chili creamy sauce! And don't get me started with the dessert & cocktails! The s'mores bread pudding was a unique take on s'mores and it was not too sweet approved! And all the cocktails we tried were good!

Friend recommended this place and we're so glad we came! We sat inside but the outside space looked fun and inviting (if it wasn't so hot!), the food was fabulous. I especially loved the salad (with slivered dates!) and the tomato toast. The wood fired oysters also had a sauce to die for. Friendly service to go with the atmosphere. Highly recommend!

You have to scan the card for the menu with your phone.

This restaurant is eclectic. The waiter explains that the items on the menu are meant to be shared and that items come out as they are made up so everyone doesn't get their food at the same time. Minus one star for this aspect of the service. There were six of us at the table so we all got a different vegetable and then an entree, which also could be shared. We thought the food was good, the drinks were excellent and the ambience was noisy. We sat outside at picnic tables on metal chairs. The inside of the restaurant also looked like the tables were picnic tables. All the items were big enough to share except the oysters which only had 4 on the plate. But they were delish! This is a very busy and popular restaurant so it's a good idea to get reservations.

Hangar steak and a nice cab sav. Really tasty

Ambiance was great. Lively chatter but not too loud. Sat at the bar. Food was excellent and service matched it. Great date place for sure.

This place is amazing! All of us didn't have 1 bad thing to say about their food even though they ran out of carrots after I ordered them Will 100% come back when I come back to Charlottesville!!

An update for Oakhart is long overdue. It's one of my favorite restaurants in Charlottesville. I love the elevated-casual ambiance here. The indoor and outdoor spaces are nice. It's great for a date or girls night. I've tried most of the dishes here and they're amazing. The cocktails are great too. On my most recent visit with friends, I tried the espresso martini. It was good and I thought it tasted like La Colombe Vanilla Latte mixed with vodka. My favorites dishes here are the Hanger Steak, Charred Carrots, and most recently the Roasted Broccoli. The hanger steak here is my favorite hanger steak ever. I'm glad they brought it back on my visits this past year. The charred carrots and roasted broccoli are my favorite carrots and broccoli that I've ever had. They are consistently prepared well and cooked to perfection. These dishes are must orders when I visit. The fish sauce caramel, garlic aioli, and sesame crumble for texture on the broccoli are divine. The only dishes I haven't liked in my time coming here are the Tuna Crudo and Cabbage Scallion Pancakes. The cuts of tuna when I ordered it were just not great, and both dishes are not worth the price. With that said, I love all the other dishes here and I appreciate that a lot of thought is put into creating them.

Wait time from store to store is usually pretty short, but waiting for actual food can be 2 minutes to 15 depending on who you go to. Kardinal Hall hits that perfect Charlottesville sweet spot: great food, great beer, great people,…read moreand a space that feels both fun and thoughtfully designed. My Wahoo daughter brought me here during Family Weekend, and now I totally get why this place is a UVA favorite. The building itself is part of a beautifully restored historic industrial complex off Preston Avenue. It's an adaptive-reuse space (formerly part of the old Coca-Cola bottling works), and the design keeps that industrial character alive: tall ceilings, exposed materials, and a layout that feels open, social, and easygoing. The outdoor area is especially smartly done. They've got roll-down fabric walls and overhead heat lamps that keep the patio comfortable even when the temperature dips. It's basically an all-weather beer-garden vibe, and it works. Here's how our meal went down: * Shared starter: the Jumbo Bavarian Pretzel. Warm, soft, perfectly salted, and killer with both the mustard and the cheese sauce. * My entrée: the Local Steak Salad -- gorgeous presentation, tender grass-fed beef, and those pickled turnips, radish slices, and greens in herb buttermilk dressing absolutely tied it together. * My daughter's entrée: Bratwurst, which disappeared quickly, so that tells you what you need to know. Service setup is counter-service for food with table drop-off, and drinks are ordered directly at the bar. It's efficient, friendly, and gives the whole place an easygoing "European beer hall meets Charlottesville neighborhood spot" feel. Kardinal Hall is one of those places where good food, good architecture, and good energy all line up. If you're in town -- especially visiting UVA -- this is a must-stop.

I had hoped that it would offer a high class experience, but it was just okay. The room had some minor aesthetic touches, but in substance was pretty standard. The entrance to the hotel felt a bit cramped, and the building seemed centered around the restaurant that didn't have much for me. The sheets caused some skin irritation, and I wish all hotels used the most hypoallergenic detergent available. From a service perspective, it was quite good. I was offered an early checkin and also took a late checkout, so I got a ton of time with the room. They also stored my luggage, including various baked goods, after I was done. So I got a lot of value out of the room. The question to me was how this hotel would compare to the others that are in downtown Charlottesville; would the experience be worth a bit more than the more standard Marriotts or various others. I was not convinced that it would be worth spending the extra money on.

Squeaky clean hardwood floors all over. Tasteful old furniture. Every staff member I spoke to was polite, courteous, and happy to help. The self serve stations for hot coffee, tea, and cold water was a convenient resource outside of the door. This inn appears to be made of several former homes that were turned into a campus of buildings making the Oakhurst Inn. It's not a single building. The small lawn in the center of the complex has benches, hammock, and a fireplace that seems welcoming and nice, but I wasn't aware of them until I left. There were a few problems during my stay. The inn requires guests to use valet parking which is $40 per night, not disclosed before my stay, and often required a long wait for the valet to return. This makes it hard to retrieve anything you need from your car. The front desk staff are often missing from the front desk - I had to wait 15 minutes for someone to come back and check me in on arrival. Likewise, the bartender is often away from station and you might wait 10 or 30 minutes for the bartender to return. There is no mini fridge or microwave in the hotel rooms. The pool area was extremely dark at night, making it tricky or dangerous to navigate. The pool water was lukewarm, not warm at all. The sauna was out of order and the doorway was small and obscured by chairs. Not accessible and difficult to find. This inn has no gym. The lobby is very small and has no seating for guests or places to hang their luggage, although the nearby lounge has a few leather couches and a fireplace that doesn't appear to be working. Not the most welcoming or convenient. Overall I don't think it's worth the hefty price tag and would stay elsewhere when I return to Charlottesville.

We chose to work in the kitchen space on the second floor. The design and decor here is gorgeous. I found myself wishing I could take some of the artwork home. Just like our Common House back in Richmond, they offer member events. They sounded so fun I considered driving back to Cville just to experience them. While we were there, we ordered some food. The food we got was beyond delicious. I'd argue even better than the RVA food. The menus vary based on location. I got a delicious miso salmon bowl. However, this past year things really started going downhill. There has been a huge staff turnover, including several staff members who were really the life and soul of the place. Common House has not been able to keep a chef for more than a few months, which has lead to a lot of hit or miss dining experiences. The free coffee, which was a big perk during coworking days, is no more. There have also been several private events that caused full house closures to members. The final nail in the coffin for me was having my membership fee raised not once but twice over the course of a year. The first time ($25 increase) I was given ample notice. The second I was given no notice and just saw an additional $35 on my credit card. When I inquired about why my monthly membership fee had been increased I was given no response. With this, I decided my time at Common House has run its course and canceled my membership. This has seemed like the perfect "third space" for remote young professionals like myself, but it seems that in the last few months several others have had the same thoughts I had and decided to leave. It will always be a cool space, but the current management leaves a lot to be desired.
