My two favorite spots to frequent at the Hive are Drake's and Humphrey Slocombe. Beer, pizza, and ice cream... how about that mix? I've also attended a few events at the Impact Hub and I really admire that space as well. Would love to visit the other businesses that also occupy the space in the future. There is a cute coffee shop, ice cream shop, open seating, chess and checkers, sun covered patio tables, beautiful tucked away courtyard restaurants framed in vines and with open tables like a modern day outdoor assembly hall. It is in the center of a few businesses, co-working spaces and residential apartments. Things here are lively and lots of fun. They frequently have events going on and I wish I was in town longer to attend. I met cool people here as I sipped on a fantastic coffee in the sun and played chess with a stranger. I specifically visited Humphry Slocombe here for delicious creamy ice cream. My coffee was from Red Bay Coffee - the cute walk up coffee shop you see near the entrance. I was really impressed by Red Bay! Crazy nice customer service, the coffee is fair trade. Okay but really though - the UNREAL, OUT OF THIS WORLD thing to get from Red Bay is the CHARCOAL VANILLA LATTE. I normally get plain ol' drip but I'm really happy I tried this latte. Honestly, it was originally a do-it-for-the-gram order but thank ig because I wish I could order this Latte back at home. It's creamy and rich but not too sweet, just a little. Really blew my mind. It is my understanding during my brief visit that Red Bay has bigger, brewery sized locations! So, also hoping to check those out the next time I'm in the area. The ladies are very friendly and explained everything to me. They were even patient when my baby woke up and I had to feed her. I love the fact that they support breastfeeding moms and are trying hard to get me, my husband, and my baby on the right track to my overall goals. We came on a Monday morning and didn't have to wait long to be helped and it looks clean. Overall happy with my visit.

It doesn't need to have a huge catalog. When I go there, I'm not looking for something specific. I see what finds me. I quit streaming movies a few months ago. Every time I pop in on my early evening walk they have something interesting on disc. Same with books. I've been introduced to a ton of interesting stuff by being restricted in my choice. To me, that's a good thing. If you need something specific you can head over to the main branch. And comments on it being "old and musty" -- omg, I'm not even going to comment on that. I'm grateful to have this branch in my neighborhood!

For one inspection they decided to call last minute and cancel. Then we had this older rude inspector named Arnold Gee. He is the rudest inspector I have ever dealt with. I have been a contractor for over 25 years. He takes the title. First of all, he is always rude and barking at you. My worker asked him a question nicely and he went off on him and said you should know that. The problem is that Alameda County has higher expectations than the California code. He wanted sand under the pipe. Which is no problem. My worker just asked how much. Then he just went off and left. Then it took him 3 days to write a simple correction notice. When we called again; he saw no sand and went off and yelled this inspection is over. When I asked for clarification or to show us the code he is talking about. He said he will send it. Right after that, I went down to public works. The receptionist was nice. She could not help me much. I tried to talk to the head inspector and he was not available. This is a disaster. I have had open trenches for over a week now. Since no one in the county wants to show their code. Inspector called my office and got into it with my office manager. What a mess.

I live on the channel in Alameda looking at the old Owens Illinois glass factory. This is the Alameda Avenue in Oakland side of the channel. We have had ongoing issues with transient population in this area and recently we had a 40 foot stretch of trash left right in my site line across the channel. I called them yesterday to see if they could get a crew out to clean it up. There are seven guys with a dumpster and it's gone. We have called a couple of other times and they have been very quick to respond then as well. Thank you so much.
