Foster City was named after T. Jack Foster. It was built in the 1960's, that's why everything is modern. Foster City was a planned community. They set aside space for parks and recreation, shopping centers, and schools. A unique feature of the city is it's beautiful lagoon system. The city has it's own police and fire depts, but I don't think it has a hospital.

Saratoga is a historic town in the South bay …read more It is known for its winery ,restaurants and historic landmarks like Villa Montalvo , Mountain winery , and Hakone gardens . It had a population of 31,051 at the 2020 census. We visited on a Sunday afternoon like 5 pm . Had an early dinner there and then walked around the main street . The parking lot was almost full but we managed to find a spot. It was peaceful and quiet surrounded by many good restaurants. I enjoyed the pleasant atmosphere and nice decor everywhere. Many flowers were blooming and the plants and trees were planted around the restaurants . A enjoyable leisure walk .

When I was visiting my Dad in Los Altos recently his sewer backed up onto the front lawn. We called…read morethe City of Los Altos sewer emergency number and they had a man on the job in less than fifteen minutes! He snaked the line between the clean-out and the main, and removed the clog. There was no charge because the City of Los Altos provides this service as a courtesy even though they are only responsible for the main line in the street. The technician came back the next day with a partner and they videoed the line to check for damage (also for free). Both technicians were friendly and informative. If one must have a sewer backup, this is the way one would hope it to be fixed. I'm very favorably impressed. Plus, the line wasn't damaged, so we were extra happy.

The largest in Norcal in both population and area. Another one of my favorite cities, well parts of it... The part that we enjoyed most was the Evergreen and Silver Creek areas, up in the hills. I used to ride my motorcycle up there with the horses. By the Sikh Gurdwara. And we had a winery up here, Mirassou Winery. Back in the day, anything and everything you could ever want or need was just a 20 minute drive. So many "different" neighborhoods, etc. Too many to name. Back in the day we had season tickets to - Great America, Bonfante Gardens, Monterey Aquarium, etc. We also used to attend the very affordable SJ Giants baseball games. And the less affordable SJ Sharks, hockey, games. Other things to do in SJ: Winchester Mystery House, Municipal Rose Garden, Kelly Park, Happy Hollow, the zoo, SAP Center, Japan Town, San Pedro Square Market, flea & farmers markets, Bay 101 Casino, golf courses, etc. Visiting missions/churches which have so much history. San Jose State University, museums, parks, SJ convention center, SJ airport, etc. Of course they now also have Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara - Our 49ers from SF... And for my wife, 10 minutes away from the Valley Fair and Santana Row mall. We used to also have a Vallco shopping center, but that has changed significantly... Atmosphere - 181+ square miles, 3.1 of which is water... Population 1M+ (2020 Census). Personally, the weather is perfect for me, not too hot and not too cold; well, it can get pretty hot depending on which part of SJ you are in. But then I am lucky to enjoy and appreciate all 4 climates. Top employers (other than city, government) - Cisco, Adobe, Kaiser, Ebay, Paypal, etc. Nearby cities - Santa Clara, Cupertino, Sunnyvale, Milpitas, Mountain View, Saratoga, Los Gatos, and Morgan Hill. Again, so close to everything! Approximately only an hour+ away, depending on traffic - SF, Half Moon Bay, Santa Cruz, Monterey, Carmel, Gilroy, etc. Service - Depends on what you do, eat, or drink. [San Jose CA]…read more I lived in San Jose for a good 22 years before moving to Roseville in 2001, completed high school at James Lick on the East Side and attended Evergreen Valley College. Love Peter's Bakery on Alum Rock... their Burnt Almond Cake was to die for. Traffic wasn't so bad then as it is now. Went back recently and revisited our old home and I could hardly remember how it looked with all the changes especially on Capitol Expressway where improvements were being done between the SR 87/Capitol Expressway interchange and Narvaez Avenue. It was a mess. In the past one could see Reid-Hillview Airport, Eastridge Mall and even Lake Cunningham Park now there's a Mercedes Benz dealership on the corner and a strip mall plaza on the opposite side of Tully Road. In the past we've revisited and returned for a tour at the Winchester Mystery House (2018) and watched Shen Yun (2020) at the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts. And just for fun we recently stopped by some of the tech companies situated in the heart of Silicon Valley from Cisco to Adobe, eBay, Roku (streaming service), PayPal, Zscaler, McAfee were some of them... It's pretty lively on weekends with lots of people walking around, students busking, families hanging out, there's a ping pong table, and it's nice that they close down part of the middle roadway so pedestrians can walk easier and much more willy nilly, as well as opportunities for al fresca dining. Food options that I saw were Japanese, Thai, Korean, Chinese (from many regions), Indian, Mexican, American, Mediterranean, and much more. They got a sizeable Ume Tea here as well and if it weren't so busy, I'd stop by either of the 2 patisseries they had.
