So many fascinating animals to see and yet not vast and sprawling. Little legs will easily manage to walk round. One of the big attractions here is the tigers. There is a tiger walkway that goes above the enclosure and at one point you can be just inches away on the other side of the wire netting if they are snoozing on the platform. Also worth a mention is the reptile house. Again, you can be up close to the crocodiles and view them from above and below the water. Also the temperature in here has to be kept really warm so it is a great place to go and warm up for a few minutes if you are visiting on a chilly day, which as Thrigby is open almost every day of the year is quite likely. As well as a children's play area there is a tree top walk and a long bridge across the big pond where you can see birds of many sorts. There are monkeys and big cats too. Go round these in the afternoon and you'll see them all being fed. Also otters, porcupines, aviary plenty to see and do!

Set in 35 acres of parkland, the zoo is home to over 1000 species of animal. About 25 minutes from Norwich and 40 minutes from Ipswich, the zoo is well signposted off the A11 and A140 so despite being in the middle of nowhere you should have no problem finding it. The zoo itself opened in 1968 and is well established, with modern well kept pens, large range of animals and a play area for all. Its a great day out especially if you have kids.

Where the zoo struggles in our opinion is the layout and facilities. The layout is confusing, no clear walking route is provided and neither is a map. Facilities wise there is only one set of toilets in the centre and food wise only Toby's diner was open, meaning only fried food and long waiting times.

Over the several visits I have made, I've been impressed with the quality of care of the animals which is apparent in the condition of fur and feathers as well as the liveliness of animal activity. There is a good range of both large and small animals, mammals, waterfowl and exotic birds. All enclosures for the wildlife offer some variety and measure of freedom, be it trees to swing and climb in, water, climbing frames or ropes, it all makes for an enjoyable time. The buildings are all timber constructed and provide different layouts suitable for their inhabitants, plus there is a separate building, more like a hot house environment where you can see some interesting fish and reptiles, as well as exotic plants and water features. I'm yet to see a list of feeding times for each animal although the staff I asked about this, were able to give me a rough idea as to the hour when it would be taking place and which direction I should go to first. Service on the gates and in the restaurants was very slow, but the food was worth the wait and reasonably priced; only thing that was value for money: jeep trips at £15/head round the compound!!!! Falconry and Zulu shows were entertaining, though most of the animals couldn't seem to be bothered OK, I know you can't 'urge' them but give them good places to hide and guess what? The paying public can't see them. At half the price or on vouchers it would be acceptable, but £15.95 is too much for the content.

Secondly, this zoo was quaint and fun with a wonderful feeling of being in someone's back garden. I felt like I had found something really special that had not been commercialised and was not insanely busy. The weather could have been better but we saw our fair share of animals and the baby Tapir was a huge (tiny) treat. The cafe was small but perfect for the zoo and had a really nice selection of food available and I very much enjoyed my lunch. Before we walked round the zoo twice :) There were talks from very enthusiastic men who worked at the zoo who are a credit to the organisation and obviously respect and admire the animals greatly. The only thing I would suggest would be to have some updated information boards to have a read through here and there, such as I wanted to know the name of the baby Tapir. But not a massive problem and it did not affect my enjoyment of the zoo and its lovely residents. Will definitely be planning to go back again this summer to make use of the picnic benches

The staff are friendly and knowledgable. The animals appear happy and content. For a small zoo there are some great animals there -a lot of big cats - Tigers, Lions, Panther, Leopard, Snow Leopards. The zoo is a breeding zoo, so there are often baby animals appearing - the Tapir is due to drop any day now. It is a great place for children - the talks are informative and aimed at children and adults. The bug talk was particularly entertaining - they bought the animals out and you were able to touch some of them (obvioulsly not the tarantula!). The entrance price is really good - £7.50 for a standard ticket, and the season tickets are more than reasonable. Defiantely worth a visit - takes a couple of hours to go round - a bit longer if the children are distracted by the play equipment. Take a picnic if you want the experience to last a little longer. There is also a little cafe at the zoo which does nice food at a reasonable price.

There's Stone Age stone race ( like 4 wheelers but fitted out for safety) a few different out door play areas, dinosaur trail that features Fiberglas life-sized dinosaurs, when hot outside there's a splash pad, and then out door Safari. He best part by far was in indoor play Center! I even had a blast running around it with my kids. The slides, ball pit play area for under 5 , all of it was so much fun! I want to get a Seasons pass just for the play area! You are able to purchase food in the play area and they have a nice selection for a picky eaters. If you happen to find yourself in the area I highly recommend stoping by, even if it's bad weather!

There are animals and fun rides such as the Flying Elephants (not real of course!), Spinning Teacups, a Pirate Ship, Merry-go-round, a mini roller-coaster, car and train rides, bouncy castle, crazy golf etc etc Our kids, aged 3 and 5 absolutely love it! It's their favourite place to go for a day out. There are a few animals to see, not loads but they do add another dimension. They usually have a petting session in the afternoon and our children have enjoyed bottle-feeding a calf and little goats, and handling a baby tortoise, lizard, snakes and ferrets as well as the more obvious choices like guinea pigs and rabbits. They also have shows in the theatre with Bubbly Bingo the Clown. May not be everyone's cup of tea but the kids are certainly entertained! Entry price is very reasonable and if you go at the beginning of the summer season then you can go again as many times as you like for the rest of the season and get in for half price (just hang on to your receipt!). After October half-term they are only open for weekends until Christmas but of course you do get to see the red-suited man himself and his reindeers! The best thing of all about Pettitts though is that there are virtually never any queues for the rides. You may have to wait five minutes in high season but that is all. Quite often my children have got off a ride, run round to the start and gone straight on again! Fantastic!
