This company is actually a broker, Angie's list, misrepresenting itself as a lawn service. I called…read morethe number for a quote, gave the same information to 2 different people, and then was told "a local provider will be in touch" - I asked from which company? And they couldn't tell me. Yelp should remove their profile.

I am chiming in to confirm what Helen's review stated. This is not a lawn company, just a broker…read more I sent a yelp quote request to a different business, but I hadn't done something like this before and didn't realize that yelp sends the quote info to multiple businesses in the same category. This business, which is not the one I was directly interested in, replied to my quote immediately via email. The response repeated some of the information I gave in the quote request, assured me they would be the right people for the job, and asked me to call the number listed on the page here. Despite the one-star rating, I decided to give it a chance and see what happened. When I gave them a call, a man answered the phone and gave the company name he worked for, which was not Shadyside Lawn Services. I didn't quite catch the name, and should have asked the man on the other end to repeat it if I'd had any presence of mind, but instead I asked him if they were the same business as Shadyside Lawn Services, already in doubt. He told me that he could get me in contact with "a lawn service" if that's what I needed, but that the business he worked at was not a lawn service in and of itself. It was difficult to bring the conversation to an end and hang up after trying to explain that I must have gotten a wrong number or made a mistake, but he wasn't impolite or rude, just persistent.

TerraGreen provides design and installation for residential and commercial landscaping. Specific…read moreservices include hardscape (e.g., retaining walls and stone paths) and softscape (e.g., trees, shrubs, and flowers). The owners Bob and Judy have decades of experience, and they strive to implement sustainable practices such as using native plants, reducing stormwater runoff, and minimizing use of fertilizers. In early February, I contacted this company to inquire about possible solutions for water management in my front yard. Several days later, they emailed me to say that a rain garden could be a viable solution if utilities are not in the area, if the slope is regraded, and if the subsoil has a reasonable percolation rate. I appreciated that, unlike some of their competitors, they wanted to ensure that a rain garden would actually work in my yard. I requested that PA One Call mark my utilities. In March, Bob visited my property for a free consultation. He talked with me for several minutes about the source of the water, and then he did measurements. He said that he might want to install a stone wall on my front hill, fill it with soil and plants, and have an overflow for extreme rainfall. I thought that his ideas made good sense. Days later, Judy emailed me about scheduling a design for the rain garden. The design fee was based on the complexity of the project and was $280. Other businesses charge design fees from $0 to several hundred dollars, so I thought that this fee was reasonable. A design would involve site sketches, material selections, and plant selections. Eventually, a different company that had installed my French drains last year told me that they could make some modifications to my drains. As a result, I am having that work done now, and I plan to have plants installed later. I still wanted to write this review to share my experience with potential customers, so they know a little more about TerraGreen.
