Gallop New Mexico Thank you for being so friendly! Right when we walked into the restaurant, we were greeted by a very friendly girl behind the counter. She asked if we would like to eat in or takeout. We chose to eat in. We were told to seat ourselves and then she brought us some silverware, rolled in a paper napkin and some water. The restaurant is clean, other than the floors that could use a good mop. The majority of the restaurant are booths with a few tables and chairs centered in the middle. I ordered the lentil soup with pita, and my husband ordered the chicken Shawarma sandwich. The lentil soup came out right away with a large pita. The lentil soup was hot in temperature butt did not have much flavor. It wasn't bad it just could use a bit more spice. I also prefer my lentil soup to have a bit more texture. The lentils seem to be more of a purée. The pita was extremely disappointing. It was more like a soft hardtack. Very dry. Very thin. No flavor. My husbands sandwich was fine. The chicken had good flavor, as did the sauce. But again the complaint is the pita. Too dry and flavorless. The french fries were slightly undercooked but had good flavor. Aria was our waitress. Very sweet and kind. She made our experience here. The service is quick and efficient. The food is appropriately sized. Overall, I would give this place 10 stars for Service of all their employees. I would give six stars for the soup. I would give Six stars for the sandwich and fries. And the pita bread gets a one. This is an incredibly authentic Mediterranean restaurant! I'm Greek and I know my family would approve. It's a little unexpected to find such fresh, quality food right off the highway, so we were surprised that we had a healthy nourishing lunch in the middle of an 8 hour drive. I had the chicken shish kabab, hummus and salad. Chef's kiss! So good. Chatted with the owner a little and she shared with me that she cooks with organic ingredients. We had a wonderful time during our first visit to Oasis Mediterranean Restaurant. Both the food and service were great. Before coming here, I had only been to Gallup a handful of times. I was looking for somewhere to eat and came across this place. The restaurant itself has a nice casual setting to it and is easy to find. The love Mediterranean food and was excited to check this place out. As with most Mediterranean places, I like to start off with some hummus. They give you a generous amount. I also enjoyed my Chicken Shish Kabab as an entree. We were excited to see that they have Turkish Coffee on the menu. I was just in Turkey not long ago and enjoyed having a cup of it here. They have a mini store and I purchased a bag of coffee to take home with me. Oasis is a great place to stop for some good-tasting grub if you are in Gallup. They do have some weird rule about not eating your takeout order while inside the store. I took a couple bites of my sandwich out of the takeout box before leaving and some lady made me transfer it to a basket. Then she told me I should have ordered my food for dine-in instead of takeout. The regular employees have always been very welcoming and nice. It looks like an In-n-Out but don't be fooled. This is the best Mediterranean I've EVER had. Lamb kabobs were amazing. My family raises lamb and this was the best I've ever had. I read the reviews... and unfortunately Oasis was such a big disappointment! I don't like to leave bad reviews, but this experience really irked me. I met some friends at Oasis for lunch... and was impressed after reading the menu. Everything sounded terrific. But that's where it turned... weird. A friend ordered chicken shawarma on a pita (a $13 entree) and it was the perfect portion size for me. I asked if they could accommodate my celiac disease and make that dish for me without the pita (so, to be clear, I would be paying the same amount but receiving less food)... and they said no - if I wanted that, then I would have to order the full $23 chicken shawarma entree. Ridiculous. If I could endure the pita touching the meat (and other ingredients) without getting sick, then I would have just ordered it as-is and taken it off the pita... but I cannot do that. And being in the middle of a roadtrip, I didn't want a huge meal that would leave me with a bunch of leftover food. If I offer to pay more for my meal than I am getting, then take it and be happy... but do not tell me I need to order the bigger entree that costs more. Weird. And not to mention, celiac is a recognized disability under the ADA... so maybe try to accommodate that next time. Oasis also has some other strange rules that they enforce. Despite the place looking like an old In-N-Out Burger (drive-thru window and all), they have signs posted all over the place that "this is a dine-in restaurant." I'm ok if that's the image they want to try to portray... but my friend had ordered his food to go... and as we sat there, he later changed his mind and decided to eat some of it before we left... and then a female (an owner?) came running over and told him he couldn't eat out of the to-go container! What?!? I could understand if they had nice plates and utensils... or if the place was even remotely fancy, but they brought him a flimsy cheap-looking plastic tray and made him put his food in the tray to eat out of it. So so weird. Let people eat their food that they already paid for in peace. If you like being told a bunch of rules and what you can and cannot do by a fast-food place, then this is the place for you. **TWO STARS** read more

What a gem in the desert! Delicious, homemade food. The baba ganoush was very tasty and came decorated with a Zia sign! The chicken shawarma and salad were fine to good. The baklava with cinnamon was Heaven. The Turkish coffee was fantastic, spiced and flavorful, with a lovely presentation in a hammered copper pot. Clean, tidy restaurant. Great, efficient, friendly service. Stopped here on an 8-hour road trip. It's right off the highway and so much better than fast food. But even table service was pretty quick and we were able to get on our way as needed without much wait at all. Start by saying the food was good and questions about allergens did get answered. The baba ghanoush wasn't the best I've had (I've been spoiled by some of the best around though, so my judgement on that may not be fair) but the presentation was a lovely zia. On the downside I'm allergic to gluten, soy no pita for me answered they did charge $3 for tomato and cucumber to use for dipping. (So I got the pita anyway and gave to the others in my group instead.) Others ordered pita burger and beef shawarma in a pita. They ate it all and looked pleased. Particular praise was given for the fries, which I thought was amusing. We had a bit of a misunderstanding with an apparently new employee regarding my entree where they'd gotten confused with my allergen question vs cook needing to answer and then my order not being put in. But in the end they made it super fast for me, apologized and let me know the staff member was new, apologized again when they gave me the food. I ate on the road toward home. The rice and beef shawarma were very very good. PS Nothing in restaurant uses soy except some of the imported Turkish stuff and some desserts. But all the rest uses oilve oil. Most things are gluten free and all are if you leave off the pita and avoid the desserts. Restaurant and restrooms were very clean. There were notes about asking if anything needed to be accommodated disability-wise and there were actively patrons inside aside from our group using assistive devices and one in a wheelchair with dedicated table for the chair. :) Also booths were plus size friendly. read more

Wow! For Gallup this is a 5! I always dread coming thru Gallup bc of the food choices. This place totally changed that. Seek it out. It is worth it. Gallup is a Route 66 icon that has seen far better days. It's also a somewhat grim destination if you're looking for healthy food options. Fortunately, Oasis Mediterranean is truly an oasis. I'm not exaggerating: I couldn't find another place that has a healthy food menu. Located in the shadow of a decaying mall and down the street from a long row of fast food icons, this place is clean and bright. I bought several items to takeout, including their vegetarian platter. The food was fresh and delicious. Oasis has been in business for about five years and has been at this location for a year. My husband and I had dinner here last Friday evening. My husband ordered the special which was lamb chops, the plate came with 4 lamb lollipops, rice, and choice of sides. He is a lamb fan and kept telling me through the whole meal how good the food was. I had the shawarma chicken dinner with salad and hummus. My food was just as good as his. The portions were generous and filling. We had a great waitress who never let our iced tea run out and checked in with us often. We saw a lot of local people we know, and enjoyed the spaciousness of the restaurant. It's super clean, even when busy. It will be a regular season n our restaurant rotations. read more

Oasis This restaurant was a jewel to find. Fantastic middle eastern food, prepared halal by the owner, and made fresh every day. My wife had the lentil soup and grape leaves and a cup of tea. We eat a fair amount of idle eastern food and she said this was some of the best she had ever had. I went for the Shawarma Beef dinner and a cup of Turkish coffee. And as did my wife, found it to be some of the best I have ever eaten. (And yes, the coffee was STRONG). For dessert we had to decide between the kunafa, kollag and the baklawa. We went with the baklawa and were very pleased with our choice. I highly recommend that if you are in the area, you choose Oasis for at least one of your meals. read more

This little spot is apparently very well loved, so had to stop by on a recent road trip through Gallup. It's interesting because the building appears to be an old fast food hamburger joint but that is definitely not what it is today. Now you can find Mediterranean bites, including Shawarma and kebab. I wasn't expecting to have Middle Eastern food for dinner this evening, but when I asked Yelp for restaurants that were open and inexpensive, this place was at the top of the list and it's near where I want to be. Easy. Warmly greeted and seated, I placed my order. A few minutes later, a plate of hummus with a grilled pita arrived. A nice portion and while the hummus was a little thinner than my preference, it's hard to beat the presentation. It's the New Mexico flag! Too cute and a shame to disturb it. But disturb it I did and I enjoyed the flavorful hummus. Dinner arrived a few minutes later - a big plate of chicken shawarma with tender fluffy rice and a light salad. Food is great. Shawarma, chicken and beef, are savory as a full plate or just a sandwich. The location is somewhat secure at the outskirts of the mall, well lit at night. However, due to unscrupulous people, they do not take calls for take out. This sucks. Service is pretty standard, nothing stellar. It's a drive to this location unless you are shopping at Walmart, Home Depot or the mall. You must order in person. This is the first time I've encountered this in Gallup.
