We were only able to do a very quick trip to the museum before we had to fly out, but within the course of an hour, we were able to have a great walk through the (humid) jungle archeological site seeing the various buildings and the temple while also avoiding the tons of wild iguanas running around the path. They did a great job keeping the trail clean and well marked to make sure you don't stray off or get lost. Signage is in both English and Spanish so you can learn about the various structures and their meaning/purpose. It was great being able to see these ancient structures and learn about the rich culture of the area. We then did a speed run through the museum. And, honestly, I'm glad we didn't have much time for that. It was so hot and humid and the building's air conditioning was broken so even if we wanted to spend time there, it would have been so uncomfortable the entire time. There are countless artifacts both from the dig site outside and throughout Mexico and tons of resources to learn about the history of the Mayan people, but the vast majority of the signs are in Spanish only. So, if you cannot read the language, you might find yourself missing out on a lot of the information. But, honestly, everything on display is so fascinating, I think you would still get plenty out of just looking at the items not being 100% sure what it was you were looking at. I just wish the A/C was working. In all, this museum is small, but it packs so much within its grounds. I would absolutely say this is a must visit location if you are staying at any of the resorts in the area. And I can't wait to come back on our next trip &, hopefully, be able to spend a longer, more comfortable time in the actual museum portion of the space.

Mayan ruins on the Cancun Hotel Strip! Muy authentico!…read more This place is pretty sweet. It's a cool building, with cool architecture, but not too terribly practical. You have to get all the way to the top floor to see the exhibits. At the ticket booth reads a sign, "The galleries are hot. We have no air condition. No refunds." They were right. The gallery is up on the third floor. No, the elevator didn't work. Instead they had a corkscrew ramp that sent me going round and round and round in circles to get to the hot gallery at the top. The gallery was pretty small, with some pretty cool artifacts, and a human skull, with some awesome carvings, and some jewelry. All Mayan. So cool. There's also a temporary exhibit that had portraits of working Mexicans posing in the photos with the tools of their trades. Outside, is a super fun nature walk along an improved trail that takes you past several small ruins (one with painting still in the interior). The path terminates at a half pyramid that you can walk around, but not up. There's a small bookstore that seems lacking at the exit. It's a fun, fairly inexpensive way to get some art and culture on your trip to Cancun, to get to see ruins without having to go way out into the jungle is pretty special.

This was the venue for an international academic conference that I attended. There's a large…read morebanquet hall on the third floor. It's located in the Hotel Zone so there are lots of options for stay nearby. I was not particularly impressed with this venue mainly because while attending lectures in one lecture hall you can overhear people in other parallel lecture sessions in other halls. It is very distracting. It's a fairly small venue. However there are many shops and eateries close by and a pharmacy too that's right in front. It's also easy to catch a bus or hail a cab from this area and many hotels are at a walking distance. Places like Coco Bongo are close by and the night life is active and vibrant in this area. Although I didn't go there, hoardings advertising these places were everywhere around the conference center.
