In a brief summary, when you read "Google" reviews and you see a "1 star" rating, you take it as someone did not have a good time or like some product or service, or a competitor slamming the competition. However, when you see six "Google 1 star" ratings within the last year (2025) including this one, you must ask yourself is something truly going on here? I have experienced many off-shore trips in my life time going out of Oregon Inlet, and had the pleasure of meeting many wonderful Captains and First Mates, but this was the first time going out of Wanchese, and it was not the case with this crew. Yes, the Captain did put us on some Mahi-Mahi, but at what cost. The entire trip you were talked down to or yelled at by an arrogant, egotistical First Mate (believe his name was Tom, but in the videos, he wears a wrap-around back brace and has a hard time holding his own balance), with the Captain hearing how he speaks to the charter members, without correcting him or taking control of the situation. I wanted to post more details on our group's charter; however, YELP restricts the number of characters (thus summarized). If you would like to read the other five "Google 1 star" reviews referenced above, with similar experiences on Fishin Fannatic they are: "Ray Scroggins (1 year ago)"; "Jake Johnson (2 months ago)"; "Shelly Kight (1 month ago)"; "Ben A (2 months ago)" and "Scott Knouse (8 months ago)". All in all, if you are looking for a relaxing, enjoyable, stress-free trip, you should look elsewhere!!!!! Hopefully, Captain Mark will turn things around on Fishin Fannatic by starting with a NEW First Mate and making sure those that contribute to his livelihood (the charter guest) are treated with respect! This charter was supposed to be an enjoyable relaxing stress-free trip (as advertised), but not the case.

Hard to find in Richmond so if I have a chance to get them, I jump at the chance. The special of the day was a flounder basket. I was able to substitute clam strips for other items, and the basket included a nicely sized piece of flounder (fish of the day), heaping helping of clam strips, fries, hush puppies, and slaw. "Beer of the Day" was $2.00! Wife got the cheesesteak sub with fries. All food--as they tell you when you walk in is fried--is fried. Totally OK with that and it was very, very tasty. Friendly staff, items mostly homemade, clean restaurant, a clear view of an honest-to-goodness working dock. Exactly what we were looking for for our last night in Manteo area. If you have not been to the Marina and Grill...please get there for a fun, tasty, almost entirely homemade meal at very reasonable prices, rubbing elbows with locals and people coming off of the fishing day, just adds to the charm to this slightly off the beaten path gem.

The later half of the trip would require some kayak skills to turn, zigzag, etc...wish we, the beginners, would have more time to practice...Rebecca is great to work with, she tried best to accommodate everyone's needs, just a large group to handle with different kayak skill level (8-9 kayaks, 13-15 ppl). Make sure to bring waters sun screen and bug sprays. Telescope can be helpful on the river to identify the gator( they are camouflage masters on water), lots of time you can see the head, nose and eyes.

I had the "alpha" horse Redbull; hubby had the wild girl, Gypsy. It was so easy to ride, lead, and let them take us on the tour of Cape Hatteras National Seashore. I was amazed at how the horses seemed to know when it was time to head out & turn around on their own because the guide wasn't near by to lead! It was an amazing start to a birthday week full of surprises!

We were under the impression/expected that we would be able to split off from the beginner group and ride at a pace we would enjoy. Due to covid the guide said they were only using one guide this year (instead of 2) so we were unable to split off and do any trotting or cantering unfortunately. But it was still an enjoyable experience over all. I would recommend that they consider offering a longer more private ride option in addition to their services! We definitely would have paid more to have a longer ride time at a pace we would have enjoyed more!
