Having seen the disparaging remarks made against employees of this outstanding organization, I feel it important to stand up and say what a fantastic company this is. Bram G needs to put his money where his mouth is. If he knows information about the situation, he should have the guts to call OCCU and give them the ability to rectify the situation. I have found EVERYONE I have dealt with at OCCU to be AMAZING and have 100% trust in this organization. I have been banking with Oregon Community Credit Union for the last 13 years. I have been pretty happy with them until this last week. I changed jobs, and as I left my old job, was given a paper check for my last paycheck instead of having the money directly deposited like it has been for the last 13 years. I deposited the check into the ATM, went to San Francisco for the weekend. The credit union placed a hold on my check resulting in 100$ in overdraft fees for 4 simple 5$ purchases. They've never placed holds on my checks before. I called to get the hold removed so that my rent check would clear. When I asked if the fees could be reversed, they said they would reverse half of them, but would not reverse the other 50$ because that is their ATM policy. Um... no that is not acceptable. I know 50$ is not a lot of money, but I worked hard to earn that money and am on a tight budget, and credit unions are supposed to be not for profit. It was a payroll check that was deposited, not a personal check and they cancelled the hold right away, so I know it's not an issue of the funds not being there. The person I talked to on the phone, Karena, was not emphathetic and was pretty short with me when I asked for the additional fees to be removed. If I went into the bank to deposit the check, there would not have been a hold. Their policy does not make sense to me, and their lack of customer service was not appreciated. read more

Only getting one star because I can't give less. On Halloween we got into a car accident. Someone rear ended me and pushed me into someone in front. Police did not site me at all. It was not my fault. Oddly I had just left the bank to make my car payment to oregon community credit union. My insurance after 7 days decided to total my car. They took till Christmas to pay the money to Oregon community. I talked to them about skipping a payment as now we needed another car and after a down payment had no money. Plus they had spoke with pempco and knew the money was coming. Then sent notice to my experian that I was late. When pempco paid them $8000. They did not take as payment and sent me to the credit agency that I was now 60 days late even when they received a payment. Then my gap company paid only $500 we sent another $1500 to them to finish it. Yet they still reported to the credit companies that I'm now 90 days late. The communication between agents there is horrid. We made a payment of some kind No one knew what was going on. Apparently they don't keep notes. Only one lady there tried to help at all. The gap company sent half to them and half to the dealer who were to send to Oregon community credit that should put to zero. Was not late that month because Lana changed the due date so the collection department would stop calling demanding payment. Just today in April do I get a call that the Dealership finally sent the remaining check and we are at zero, yet they called me and needed me to verify my identity. They received a payment for us in one form or another oct, dec, Jan, feb and the beginning of April and yet my credit went down 74 points because it shows a 90 and over late payment. They treated me like a criminal the whole time. No one asked if we were ok from the accident, no one had a nice attitude with me once until Lana. They did the same thing to my parents credit because my dad had consigned. They knew the money was coming. Policy states that we keep paying the premium and they would reimburse us at the end. It didn't matter to them if I couldn't add another $300 payment because we had to have a car to drive. They received $10,000 in four months time. They got their money and screwed me the whole way. There is no help in that regard for people hurting when something bad happens that was not our fault. It's only about money for them. I get they are a bank, but don't say you are a community credit union and not give a crap about the people of your community. Not any kind of understanding. They got it all paid and done just like they knew they would yet screwed my credit just because they could. AWFUL people over there. I would never recommend them ever and will never use them again. read more

One star for the warm fuzzies that a local credit union can provide, and that's about it. After having banked there for about three years, I have found OCCU's customer service to be unable to provide me help when I need it, but more than happy to throw all sorts of barriers in my way when I don't. They will make more stink over having their members jump through hoops over a negligible sum of money than is necessary, sensible, or tolerable. I have gotten to a place where I would probably return to a corporate bank like Chase, though I hate to do so because i want to support local business, simply because the banks I used before have trained professionals, and not undergraduate robots trained (constantly!) to quote policy to me. When administration errors happen (and, believe me, they will) you will end up on the phone with some broken spirit over at the Coburg admin warehouse who will blame you for their problem, or will tell you "Yes, we get complaints about that constantly but cannot change it. It's actually gotten better, if that makes any difference!" Well, it doesn't. Were it not more of a hassle to change over all my accounts to some other bank than it is to put up with this, I probably would have closed my account a year ago. Consider that before you start banking with OCCU. There are things to love (the online system is superb!), but at some point, you will have to deal with their front-facing service, and it is abysmal for a 21st Century bank. They seriously make me wonder if they consider those funds in the bank to be mine, or theirs. read more

I do not recommend OCCU to ANYONE!! I've had great experiences with other credit unions in the past but OCCU is terrible. I financed a car with OCCU and regret the decision everyday. They nickel and dime you for EVERYTHING and make everything extremely difficult. They even charge you for making a payment (seriously)! They have so many hidden fees you'll end up paying waaaay more than your monthly payment amounts. If you are considering using OCCU to finance a car, don't!!! Learn from my mistake and find a more customer friendly bank!! read more

Horrible customer service. Treated me and my father like criminals when we needed help exchanging damaged money my dying grandfather buried in the yard. A customer for several decades, but treated like total garbage? Also they proved to all be completely unaware of the US government's standards on currency echange, which I looked up after the awful experience. Everything they told us was wrong. When I wrote to alert them that they needed to do some research, I received a snotty response that sounded like the person had no idea what happened, but implied that it was somehow my fault. It was shocking and disgusting all around. I used to bank here myself, but never again. They need to do some serious research into the meaning of customer service, as well as into the possibility of doing google searches and consulting the Department of Treasury website when they don't know what they are doing or talking about. read more

I used to love OCCU. We have multiple accounts, thought they would be good for financing a new home. They sold us out to a mortgage company that has given us nothing but problems. This lender they sent us to is known for problems. BEWARE. OCCU does not handle the loans. They have not tried to help with all the problems we've encountered with this mortgage company. We've been thinking about getting away from OCCU. Very disappointed for misleading us to believe they take care of home mortgages. Don't believe the signs in the lobby. read more

The only reason my account is still at OCCU is because I have been in the process of transitioning from one job to another, and shutting down the business at the old job is a long and time-consuming process. I also do not like change and cannot stand dealing with all the trouble of switching over, and the inevitable fast and loose games I KNOW OCCU will play with my money. They're at it again. They charged me $25 "EOD hold funds fee" for a gasoline purchase. I had the funds in my account and there is NO justification for this theft. Then they rejected a payment from ADEQUATE funds on another card, and charged me $25 to reject the payment. I am sick AF of these BS games. Now I am starting to be able to come up from under the torment of closing a business and finding a new job, I will be dealing with this problem. This is theft, there is no nice word for it. STEALING $50 for NO GD REASON IS THEFT, OCCU. BADLY DONE. You are awful! What a fine way to treat a customer who has been banking with you for 30 years. I have done business with this credit union for a few years now and have had very good service from them until now. The communication breakdown with the loan officer was not good at all, tried for 2 weeks to reach him to find out the status of my loan to no avail. Now they added $877 to my loan for 55 days of insurance lapse. This is highway robbery, my entire yearly premium is only$435 for 12 months! I will be paying my loans off this month and bringing my business to Linnco F.C.U. I spoke with Ethan with questions about auto loans and he was so rude every single time I spoke with him. He would tell me one thing one day and then I would call back with questions then next, he would give me a different answer. I could tell all he cared about was making a sale. OCCU was in Portland and apparently could not survive the economic down turn so all PDX branches closed, big hassle and costly option is shared banking. We established these accounts with our student going to UO, big mistake! OCCU should not have any affiliation with UO, they charge students for everything. We moved our accounts to US Bank right on campus super student friendly! Great for Parents too, no holds on your money like Oregon Community Credit Union. read more

OCCU did have good customer service. Last year in January I opened an account (which requires a credit check, no problem excellent credit) and went back a month later without my account number and they searched and searched and said that no account was found. Now, I knew this was wrong because I had the paper work back home. I shrugged it off and utilized another service. Thinking they would straighten it out by the next time I needed their service. I went back a second time without the paperwork hoping things would be fixed, but no success. I was dealing with the West 11th branch. This was my second account opened with them and I had been a customer since 2000. You'd think 10 years would familiarize a customer, but I guess they have too many customers. If they weren't able to find an account that I opened and had documents for then what else are they going to mess up on? You have to have good credit to be a member, but what do they have to have for you to be their customer? read more

I've had a small account with OCCU for years. In the past year I've switched my business account over to OCCU. I will stay with them for now. They do seem a bit disorganized. My main concern is with their merchant services, TMC. I tried to sign up with Total Merchant Services. What a mess. I even had to visit the OCCU office and set down with one of the managers and get TMC on the phone to find out why there was such a delay in my being able to get signed up. Then after signing up at the OCCU office I never received my swipe card or heard from TMC, until recently. In the past couple of weeks I've been getting emails from TMC asking about completing the sign up process. It was more than 3 months ago that I did all of that! I stopped by the credit union and reported this to the same manager I had worked with over 3 months ago. He didn't seem to interested. He reached over to his phone as if he was going to make a phone call, but as soon as I turned away he went right back to what he was doing. I suspect he wanted to make me feel he was going to do something, but in reality I doubt anything came of my concern. I've stuck with using Square for merchant services. They are reliable, efficient and communicate in a timely manner. I must say, I am not all that confident in OCCU. I will stick with them for now, but I suspect that I will end up switching my business account back to my previous bank. read more
