The sad truth about BJJ in Manhattan is that it is almost exclusively an adult endeavor. While this is great in that us adults have world class instructors to choose from, this doesn't do much to build the next generation of warriors skilled in the gentle art. Flash forward to my time at The Hive. Professor Chris is doing what we are not doing in NYC - namely, he is building the next generation. And even more important than back takes and armbars, Professor Chris is teaching his young students lessons that will stay with them as they go forward in life - lessons such as the benefit of hard work and adherence to a code of being an honest warrior (bushido). And better than hearing these things from adults that these kids may or may not listen to, these lessons are coming from someone kids most certainly look up to and will listen to. Kudos to Professor Chris - he is doing the good work that we as a bjj community need to ensure that our art continues to grow and thrive.

Yelling in front of children and causing a scene because my friend ," sitting in the fold chairs behind the glass" had just done a block move to show me while having a private conversation. Pulling my friend into his office and yelling at him for disrespecting martial arts. As my friend walks out he mouths to me," get me the fuck out of here." As anyone would respond to a situation like such, I than start getting yelled at being told me friend is extremely disrespectful. While I kept calm tone I was being yelled at this entire time and I decided to say, we should continue this later where kids are not present to where it was brushed off. Finally I decided to leave, it was not worth giving a fight. I'm in no way trying to brush people away from martial arts or dishonor what this academy does. But I do want to make it aware to people what happened that shouldn't have. I hope all is well and everyone stays healthy

Drawing on his 50 years of Karate experience, he has created the school on Hooper Avenue, down in Lacey, Manchester, Brick, Ohio and Germany. The basic teaching of the school is not fighting but respect.
