Good food, friendly staff. They're fast too! Sorry about the markings on the menu, they do that when you order. My son likes chicken on a stick, I got Singapore Mein Fun, it's spicy and delicious. If you've never had mein fun it's like lo mein except the noodles are smaller and thinner. I ordered egg drop soup and it was simple without vegetables; also delicious. Ended up picking up dinner from here the other day unexpectedly because I happened to be in the area. Happy accident! Wish this place was closer to my house, because in a sea of mediocre and awful Chinese-American places, this is a better one. Unlike most Chinese take-out places around here, they also have a fair amount of seating and it is very clean. It's not fancy, but I wouldn't have any qualms with having a sit down for dinner here if we just wanted to get out of the house for the night with the kids. So the other night I ordered the Bourbon Chicken (not on the menu), the (Spicy) Chicken in Garlic Sauce, Scallion Pancakes, vegetarian Spring Rolls, Chicken Rice Soup and Vegetable Lo Mein. We also got a free order of Cream Cheese Wontons since I had a big order. The Bourbon Chicken was expensive (almost 9 bucks for a large) and came with steamed broccoli. The sauce on it was very sweet and delicious, but I did not care for the texture of the chicken. I pushed it around my plate and let my rice sop up the yummy sauce. My husband's mildly spicy Garlic Chicken came with broccoli, water chestnuts, celery, carrots and baby corn was DELICIOUS. The steamed rice was the best I've ever had from a chinese restaurant. It was slightly sticky but firm and lightly sweet and had a mildly buttery flavor that I think was naturally occuring. Loved it. The spring rolls were perfectly fried and the filing was okay but not great. The scallion pancakes were horrible, although the garlic soy sauce they came with was really good. Best of all was the free cream cheese wontons that had a very thin wrapper, sweet and lacking in crab or scallions. I've never had this kind before and I really liked them. Unlike most take out places, they also have several dessert choices, such as almond cookies, fried chinese donuts and apple sticks, in addition to the cream cheese wontons, which really of the dessert variety. I will definitely be going back to Ocean Garden. 3 1/2 stars. read more

This is the only good Chinese place in Vineland. The interior is fairly drab and the shopping center in which it's located is depressing. Service inside is good and swift, but it's much better for take out. My favorites: 1. Scallion pancakes. They're egg roll skins, folded over with bits of scallion inside. They're fried until just greasy, yet taste light and delicate. They're served with a sweet garlic soy sauce, but I like to eat them plain or with a little hot mustard. 2. Steamed dumplings. A thick flour coating covers chopped, sweetened pork, also served with a sweet garlic soy sauce. Wonderful. 3. Spare ribs. Their ribs are always tender with just enough char on the outside. 4. Hot and sour soup. They don't load it up with either sugar or rubbery black mushrooms, nor do they add huge chunks of tofu to it. Their hot and sour soup is, well, hot and sour, and filled with white mushrooms and tofu sliced just thick enough to get completely saturated with the broth. 5. Beef with tomato and peppers. Sort of a pepper steak with tomatoes, this dish is perfect comfort food. In the summer, they use fresh, Jersey tomatoes, so the taste is even more intense. Service was very quick, portions were substantial and the lunch specials were all under $6.00 and included either soup, spring rolls or a soda. Wow, tried it because it was the only place open. Stunningly bad. The Hawaiian duck was horrible. Fatty, fried, dry, no sauce, something you would be pissed off to have on a desert island, expensive too at $15.99. Wonton soup was ehh, many fat droplets on top and no pork or scallion, nothing, just wontons and fatty broth. If they put any effort at all into that dish they should be incarcerated. Barfalicious. This is my absolute favorite place to get Chinese. I have been going here for like 5 years now and have tried many things. Their fried rice was my favorite in the area. I now get sesame tofu and it's amazing. Most places under cook the tofu and it's mushy and gross but they cook it perfectly. The staff is very friendly and I have never received a wrong item in these last 5 years. Highly recommend this gem in such a rundown plaza. Don't let the location fool you! read more
