    Wild Dunes Resort

    Wild Dunes Resort

My family and I spent a week at Wild Dunes Resort and had a mostly positive experience…read more The resort is relatively new, and the rooms -- though not particularly spacious -- are clean and nicely furnished. As other reviewers have noted, the cost of food is quite expensive -- you're paying for convenience since you're on an island and about 15 minutes away from other restaurants in the area. One thing we noticed is that this place lacks Southern hospitality. Most of the employees are transplants -- they work there every summer, for example -- and none of them were overly friendly, helpful, or courteous. For example, our family went to the breakfast buffet one morning, and the two hostesses on duty just stood there talking to each other and literally refused to even acknowledge us for two solid minutes. Then when they did acknowledge us, they looked at us with annoyance as if to say: "What do you want?" On another occasion, I attempted to purchase snacks at the front desk that was staffed by two slow-as-molasses employees, but after standing in a line that didn't move in 15 minutes, I gave up and put the snacks back. And on yet another occasion, my family and I went to the Sweet shop to get ice cream one night, and we encountered an employee who -- despite having a shop full of customers -- refused to help her colleague scoop ice cream. When a customer asked if she could help, the young lady said "No, she's (her other colleague) got it." When she heard that, a customer literally walked out the door. The spa experience was lovely, although the nail services are in another building & it's not nearly as nice a facility as the spa. We would definitely come back, but it's honestly it's very tempting to get a rental instead.

I was literally SO excited to spend the day at the Sweetgrass Spa here at the resort and it was…read moreso...UN-impressionable. I literally love resort spas. It's a hobby of mine I digress I love to splurge. And I've been to ones in numerous different states within the US and over 20 yrs. This one was so overpriced and underdelivered. The staff was nice I will say that! But the spa didn't have hot tubs, no free saunas (only 15 minute paid sessions), no steam rooms, and no cold plunges. So apart from paid treatments it left nothing to do to relax for the day which is literally the whole point. They had no snacks! And offered hot tea but me and THREE other women over a period of an hour asked for hot water to be replaced as it was empty and no one refilled it. I arrived at 2pm and didn't get my first hot tea until 6pm. The outdoor jacuzzi was a shared space for men and women, didn't have jets you could push on, and was swarming w floating fly ants. Yuck. The sauna I did end up paying for wasn't even private! Meaning it was all three sides window glass and in a high traffic hallway area so any women who walked by stared at you. The nail tech did a great pedicure but you have to walk outside way down to other end of resort that is not adjacent or even close to the spa itself. Champagne was supposed to be included in treatment and says so even on website and yet I was never offered and when asked she had to go "check w her manager". I've never had a more UNCOMFORTABLE SPA EXPERIENCE in my 20 yrs of actively going to various spas... And don't get me started on the paid treatments! I paid for a mud wrap full body cbd treatment. First, be prepared to have them try to upsell you in every way like a used car salesman. Second, be prepared to smell bad breath, and hear them squeak around the room on their sneakers and roll around the room on their loud stool while your eye mask is on instead of politely leaving the room while you soak up the treatment! And why wasn't there pleasant spa chill relaxation music playing at least?? Ugh. I hate to say this but I regret tipping 20%. I left lore stressed than when I came in... And last but not least I called ahead to verify they closed at 8pm. I verbally asked again upon checking in...and yet by 6:45pm the place emptied out and I had a staffer remind me it closes in an hour and at 7:25 I had the manager let me know again. So F it, I got dressed and left at 7:35. I was so over it.

Pool here is nice but the sister hotel Sweetgrass Inn has much bigger pool with excellent bar set up. I will say that it was extra great because they had only opened days before so it was a ghost town and we practically had the hotel to ourselves. I pulled up unsure if I was in the right place so I parked under the awning and went into ask. The woman at the front desk assured me I was and directed me to the pool area where they were hanging out. She told me to leave me car for the moment and go say hi so I did. I came back to move it and grab my stuff and she said parking wasn't an issue that weekend so I could just pull my car forward a little and leave it for the weekend... VIP spot! The room I was in was great! It was a large suite with a couch and chairs, dining table, wet bar, and then a separate bedroom area. There was a door to a private patio that had our own access gate to the pool deck which was amazing. Speaking of the pool, it was the epitome of relaxation and the best part... adults only. Don't worry, there are a couple pools down the boardwalk where your hellions can swim. I'll take the quiet pool anyday! The staff were very helpful. They had sanitizer and masks right at the front door. The beach is a short walk down the boardwalk. And the room was amazing. I didn't get to try any eats because not everything was open except the place on the beach (which was wildly expensive), but I would love to stay here again.

Next door to the Windjammer was great, stood on balcony to see and hear the concert. Easy to walk to dining and gift shops. This is a quaint hotel that we have stayed at many times. The only issue is the parking and having to pay extra for it. If you want beach front and quaint surroundings-then this is the affordable place to stay.

Honestly, the beach access is about the only thing this place has going for it…read more The room was not in great condition. Peeling paint, rusted furniture, and even parts of the stairs were loose, so you actually had to be careful walking on them. For what they charge to stay here, I was shocked at how run down everything felt. The balcony situation really irritated me. We paid a lot for a room with a private balcony, but there is nothing actually separating your balcony from everyone else. People literally came onto OUR balcony, sat in the chairs that came with our room, and smoked. There is even a sign saying it's a private balcony for the room, which they completely ignored. And the balcony is already super small to begin with. I shouldn't have to go out there and ask strangers to get out of the chairs on the private balcony I paid for. The cleaning was also questionable. After housekeeping came, there was somehow sand all over our floor AND on our bed. How does the room get sandier after it's cleaned? It is also LOUD. There was a concert next door until around 10pm. I know the hotel can't control a concert happening next door, but if you're coming here wanting a quiet, relaxing beach trip, this probably isn't the place. And don't count on the blackout curtains helping much either. They technically have them, but there is a bright porch light right outside the room and the curtains did basically nothing to block it out. So even once the noise stopped, we still had light coming into the room. I'd heard good things about the staff, but that wasn't really our experience at check-in. The front desk just seemed impatient and not very welcoming. Then there is the parking. It's awful. The spaces are incredibly tight, or you have to park across the street. If there aren't any spaces available there either, you're stuck paying for street parking. And the price?? Absolutely not. The rooms are small, there aren't many amenities, and the condition of the property does not match what they're charging. I will say I was happy to see a Keurig in the room, and I was able to grab the supplies I needed from the check-in office. We did love being able to walk right out to the beach. That part was extremely convenient. But for us, it wasn't enough to make everything else worth it. For the amount of money we paid, I expected WAY better.

The property offers a great island location on Isle of Palms that's only 10 minutes or less from Charleston. It's also only 10 minutes from Sullivan's Island. Access into the lot was easy and I appreciated the offering of four spaces for Diamond members. The exterior was in great shape and offers a resort feel to it. The landscaping was kept up with fresh pine straw. A sign in the corner is dated and cannot be seen from the road. The walk up was debris free, however trash was overflowing in the can outside the door. The lobby is attractive and welcoming. Check-in was simple and staff provided hotel information for my three days. A large hotel cart was appreciated and they had several of them. The double Queen was clean and prepared for my 3 PM arrival. The bath had proper supplies. The towels were in good condition. Climate was good not great, the room (324) still got a bit warm. Unfortunately the room was dated as technology plugins were sparse. Other than that the beds and pillows were comfortable. The bed sheets clean and in good condition. I received no maid service as per policy of a 3 day stay or request. I think many hotels will keep this COVID policy. I have no issue with it. My family used the free breakfast offered twice and it's their weakest area to improve. I applaud three waffle makers, but one was broken. The food was mediocre and muffins were frozen on one day. The most challenging was staff that seemed to do too little. The best parts of their breakfast was the hours 6-10 and the large space with many tables. There is an outdoor pool offered that was heated, clean and open. Chairs and tables are on the deck. My family did not partake, but others did. It's directly off the lobby. Over the few days I had pleasant interactions with the front desk male staff working in the evening. That elevated my review. Hampton Inn Isle of Palms has composite of a 4. My opinion is they deserve a weak 4, Nonetheless it was an above average experience and offered an excellent value. Furthermore Hampton Inn as a brand has not been my go to over the past 5 years, but this property delivered just fine for my family.

I waited more than a few times for my car- valet is ver under staffed. Also, it took 4 tries for me to get a working door key, and I later found out that you have to leave the key in the door for a while to make it work (?). What made this 4 stars instead of 3 for me was the room service and the customer service. I left my text books in my car and the valet got them and brought them to the room. And the room service was SO FREAKING GOOD. Not cheap, standard resort. I didn't mind coming here, but I'm still hoping next years conference is moved back to St Simons or Hilton Head.
