5 Stars for a perfectly-situated boutique hotel with plenty of charm! Hotel Bella Grace is gorgeous and located close to King Street (walking distance). As you check-in at the front desk, you'll see that they also offer complimentary coffee and water at front. The also look to have a fridge of snacks and drinks you can grab at a cost and offer 10% off entrees at Delaney's oyster next door. They were beautifully decorated for the holidays, with an adorned tree in the front conference room/ lobby hangout space. I didn't spend any time there, but I imagine it's a good spot for sitting with a laptop to get some work done. One thing to note is when arriving very late after a night out, my key didn't open the front doors. I had to push the call button many times for 5+ minutes until someone came by to let me in. It was a bit unnerving standing out front alone in the dark, so they may want to make sure that is working after hours! The room was perfect and had everything I needed! I couldn't believe I found this level of boutique hotel in my budget, and highly highly recommend it for future stays!

It has been many years since my last visit to Charleston. The restaurant scene is as vibrant as ever. But now lodging is equally impressive. Visiting for two days, I reached out to a friend who had lived in Charleston for some lodging recommendations. Several of her picks were booked for a Sunday thru Tuesday visit, but the Hotel Bella Grace was available. This property has an amazing reputation in the community. It has been opened for about five years. With only 50 rooms, it is a true boutique hotel. Besides size and sophistication, most boutique hotels I've been to have a restaurant, an amazing restaurant. The Hotel Bella Grace doesn't have one. I guess you could call it a limited service boutique hotel. Hotel Bella Grace can be reserved thru Marriott. It is considered a Residence Inn, presumably because many units have kitchens. When I think of Residence Inns, I also think of them serving complimentary hot breakfast. When you pay $500 a night for a room, I'd like breakfast included. The hotel's interior is stunning in terms of colors, lighting, furnishings. It reminds me of a 21C Museum Hotel with its extensive artwork. I was pleased Marriott was able to upgrade our room to a Governor's Suite. Unfortunately, it still had only one bed. And when we opened the hideaway bed there were no sheets, blankets or pillows in the room. A quick call resolved that. The bathroom was spacious. However, neither my wife or daughter were able to do their makeup given its poor lighting. As an Ambassador Elite Member with Marriott Rewards, I like to be recognized for my status during a visit. That was sorely lacking at the Hotel Bella Grace. The valet parking is $40. Both attendants I met were super friendly and helpful. At the end of this visit, I can say the experience didn't justify the cost.

Cute , modern boutique hotel conveniently located downtown . It's a Marriot brand hotel although you won't see any signage indicating so. The rooms are modern and sophisticated with adjustable dimmer chandelier , stylish artwork and marble and grey themed color patterns. Our room also included a kitchenette complete with a mini stovetop . Charleston is full of historic homes and Bella Grace appears to have once been a stately abode that has now been renovated to the stylish hotel it is today . Location : It's located minutes away from popular tourist hotspots like The City Market , King Street shopping district , Gaillard auditorium, SC Aquarium, Fort Sumter ticket office, Marion Square and more . It's also a just few minutes drive to I-26. The hotel is also located steps away from the larger scale Dewberry hotel...I only bring up the competition because the Dewberry offers a beautiful rooftop with food and cocktail service and great views. The Dewberry also offers the nearest spa to the Bella Grace . Conveniently , there is a great restaurant directly next door called Delaney's, a seafood focused restaurant, also located inside an old Charleston home. Parking : there is limited street parking . They offer valet parking as well . Not sure if self parking is an option. You can't go wrong staying at the Bella Grace - you are guaranteed to have a great experience in the Holy City staying here !

View from our room .. enclosed, dark and sad. This is the room we were given after asking for a nice view. passive aggressive?!

Nice hotel and decor. Staff not helpful. When we checked in I asked for a room that had some sort of view and was told it's just a parking lot and a School view. Front desk gave a view of a brick wall , no sunlight. I'd call that passive aggressive. Just because they start every sentence with "yes ma'am" doesn't mean they want to be helpful or accommodating Not worth the money, basic room with no view for 2 nights = 925.00. Minimal amenities. No robes, no makeup mirror and received 1 coffee pod for 2 people for 2 days

We wanted a nice and conveniently located hotel in the Charleston historic district for our getaway. As Sheraton/Marriott members with a free night available this was a no brainer. The hotel is in the middle of everything, so walking to the many fine historic sights, restaurants and bars was easy. The hotel was very nicely decorated and well maintained. The staff we dealt with were very nice and helpful for tips on the area. The rooms were roomy, clean and comfortable considering the buildings narrow architecture common to the district. This hotel is also animal friendly and the staff all wanted to greet our puppy. There is a $150 deposit for dogs which is refunded at end of stay to cover any damages. Luckily Ali was well behaved and didn't eat the curtains or furniture. There is also a $40 valet parking fee which is pretty much necessary since there are no parking lots and a metered spot was not of any interest. So it was worth it to us. We would definitely stay here again.

The plush couches and chandelier add so much charm to our suite!

I am absolutely loving our visit at Hotel Bella Grace! The hotel is absolutely gorgeous and our suite is massive! Can't beat the location. We are just footsteps away from King Street and Marion Square and can walk to the Charleston City Market, the French Quarter, and the aquarium in about 15 minutes. The decor at Hotel Bella Grace is super modern and swanky. From the moment we stepped inside our suite we were amazed by all the attention to detail. The divided living room and bedroom is a nice touch and makes it feel like we are staying in a nice apartment. The mini kitchen not only includes a fridge, freezer and microwave, but also includes a small dishwasher and stove. It was so nice to bring our leftovers back to our hotel. The bathroom is also massive and contains designer toiletries and a walk-in shower, but I do wish there was a lock on the bathroom. My toddler quickly figured out how to open the sliding door and insisted on accompanying me to the toilet. Would also ditch the full length mirror overlooking the toilet and make the armoire twice as large so I can hang more than six items. Skip the continental breakfast. It's free, but a disappointing selection of hard biscuits, watery sausage gravy, undercooked and soggy bacon, overcooked eggs and a fruit salad that was just about to spoil. Cold cereal, toast and yogurt were your best bets for an edible meal. The coffee, mimosas, and coffee cake were the only highlights of the buffet. I overlooked docking the hotel a star for the breakfast buffet because it's free and I prefer to eat at the local restaurants in the area, but I did have to dock a star for the bedding. The mattress is super comfortable, but the fitted sheet barely covers half of the mattress so it pops off the second you lay on the bed. The last thing I want to touch in a hotel is a bare mattress that can't be washed and has obviously been in contact with all the previous hotel guests before me. I am a germaphobe and this is a huge "ick" factor for me. I would highly recommend for the hotel to immediately purchase deep pocket fitted sheets. This will prevent the sheet from popping off, prevent guests from coming in direct contact with the mattress and prolong the life of the mattress. Would I stay at Hotel Bella Grace again? Absolutely! Although, I might have to pack my own fitted sheet.

Although it wasn't cabana season or warm enough to get into the pool, the cabana room was really nice and clean. I thought the room was just so cute and loved how the entire hotel was decorated. I was still able to enjoy a couple hours sitting out in the sun by the pool during my stay. They offered an hour of complimentary champagne in the late afternoon which was a nice touch. The hotel has a nice cafe and restaurant attached so you don't have to go far to find some food and coffee. I definitely recommend this hotel and enjoyed our brief time there.

The Mills House is one of the truly classic Charleston hotels. It has gone through a lot of owners in its history. It has been an independent property, a Hyatt, a Wyndham and has had many other flags. Hilton has renovated it a bit but kept most of its eccentricities. The location on Meeting Street not far from King can't be beat. The staff is friendly and helpful. The food and drink are the main restaurant and bar, the Iron Rose, are good. The negatives include the plumbing. On two of the three days we were there over Christmas, the water in the shower was just lukewarm, and the water pressure came and went. The other main negative is the cost of parking, $60 a night. That's a Manhattan price, not what you'd expect in a mid-size Southern city. Still, we like the atmosphere and the history, so we'll stick with five stars.

There were a lots of bars, restaurants and shops within walking distance. They boast about their butler service, which is pretty unique in the United States (akin to the resorts in Mexico and the Caribbean). We only stayed one night and did not make the most out of it. Our butler was very pleasant and offered detailed recommendations regarding restaurants in the area. The staff is welcoming and friendly. We arrived early and had to wait a few hours until our room was ready. That was a slight nuisance as it was a cold and rainy October weekend in Charleston. Luckily they had plenty of umbrellas for us to use. The welcome cocktails were a nice touch when we were finally able to check-in. Other nice touches include the complimentary drinks, candies and snacks that were already waiting in the room. The turndown service also included chocolate and a small sweet alcoholic drink / shot. Lastly, the included room service breakfast in the morning elevates the stay. A lot of good things. However, I thought the rooms themselves were just okay and a bit dated. Our friends stayed at a boutique hotel with vaulted ceilings and its own kitchenette for less money. Another disappointment was that we booked a room with a small outdoor courtyard, but were given a regular room. Given the weather, we probably wouldn't have used the outdoor space at all, but it would be good to get what you paid for. Overall very good service and location. They have a nice bar by the lobby that we did not make use of. The rooms themselves are just okay and on the small size. I would probably stay somewhere else next time I visit Charleston, even though I have nothing bad to say about The Spectator. Maybe my expectations were too high with a 4.8 / 5 average Yelp score. I just think there's better value elsewhere.

The nice amenities, decent gym and friendly staff are what creates the environment for a pleasant experience. Two of these were met and the friendly staff, was mostly there. . .but one sour apple truly changed the course of our stay. Even my wife, who worked once upon a time in hospitality at Kiawah Resort, was started by the interactions from The Loutrel Hotel staff member. Long story short. The daily complimentary breakfast was served. I accidentally went to place the granola lid on the yogurt, my wife told me that was the wrong lid and I went to correct. From across the room the breakfast attendant yelled, "sir that doesn't go there." Startled, I immediately removed it and placed it accordingly. I laughed it off. Moments later I went to sit my breakfast down where my drink was located. Same attendant, "you're not even sitting at the right table with your wife." Again, my error, but don't call me out twice in one morning. It's a small lobby, so many staff members overheard the interaction. Nothing was done by other management. The next morning, I walked down to look at breakfast. I saw the same attendant and said, good morning. She looked at me but wasn't pleasant in her response. Unlike the rest of her colleagues at the restaurant who are polite and kind, the same customer service I expect and provide to my customers. Breakfast offered salmon with some type of eggs or shellfish. I can't eat shellfish, allergic. So, I went to grab a biscuit at a local coffee shop and a coffee. We came back to the hotel and sat our food down. The same rude attendant came over, nudged my wife in her back and said, "you can't have this here, cross contamination." So, I left. Allowed my wife to eat her yogurt in the area. Funny enough, my wife asked where the utensils were, because every table had them. Same attendant rudely, pointed to another table for her to get them. I should have just sat down and ate my food as I didn't see any signs for "no outside food." Either way, stay somewhere else. It's unfortunate that a hotel like this allows such rudeness from a staff member. I did report this to the manager, and online but was met with more passivity. Comped two nights of valet. Honestly, it wasn't enough. I would never stay here again and it ended the trip on such a sour note.
