I hadn't dined there in forever, but Mr family (a total of 7 people) unfortunately wanted to celebrate my nephew's birthday there. This establishment had downgraded. The hours online said they are open til 10:30, which I checked because I don't like dining right before closing. I found out once we got there that their hours changed til 9:30. Either way, my family got there well before 8 and the food quality was poor , multiple items dried out & lack of flavor!! The hibachi grill area shut down for 8:30 (yes an hour before closing). I addressed it with the manager and she literally said " the grill closes early because they have to clean everything... she thought everyone knew that" I asked her " Was there a sign stating this?... because as a professional I would not be mean about that if it did have a sign stating that." So there were no signs and no one came verbally tell us the grill would be closing soon. The manager also mentioned the change in hours of operation was listed on the door. Overall, I was happy. Nothing was amazing, but for a Chinese Buffet it was above average. The food was mostly fresh. The employees were mostly attentive. Their prices are good. And they even give a senior discount (happy dance). They also have a seafood buffet on the weekends which I will check out when I have the chance. read more

So yes, it's a typical Chinese mega buffet. One thing I really like about it is that nothing is ever dried up, the pans are never empty. They continually are cleaning the buffet area and the floor in the dining area. The sushi is made fresh. I would like more raw options when it comes to sushi, but it's not a Japanese place so no biggy. The soups are delicious. Even my 1 year old loves the soups and noodles here. Due to my work schedule, I am usually one of the first to arrive. The food is as hot and fresh if they had special ordered it for me. I have been there in the afternoon as well. I like how when the crowd is slow, they put out smaller portions to help keep the updated food fresh. Just about everyone has been to buffets that max out the food tray then leave it there till its empty... sometimes several hours.. For those that want a custom plate, they have a full service menu, a hibachi, sushi bar, ice cream and more. They are my fav in Houma, and am so glad they are back open after a brief shutdown due to COVID. read more

This is a favorite eating place my family and I like to eat at when in town. I enjoy the sushi and other items on the buffet. I just don't like the stare downs, r the distasteful look the guy gives you, that is making the sushi when you take several of the same kind of sushi. When I go to buffet and paying night time price I want to eat my fill of what ever looks good and what I like to eat. Other than that our waitress was nice. Ocean Star used to be Dynasty Buffet, which was a few doors down. Some of the stores had been purchased by Walmart & torn down to build a neighborhood grocery store. From what I've heard, it's the same owners, just a different name & they moved into the old Tuesday Morning store. Great buffet with large assortment of dishes to suit just about anyone. I tend to stick to a soup, some sushi, then Chinese green beans and a few of those cheese covers mussels. I scrape off the cheese though, but dang they are tasty underneath all that goo. 4 kinds of soups and they even have a bowl of dried seaweed to add to your bowl. It's just like the seaweed in miso soup. There is a sushi bar, which is always what I head for first. I have a bit of a raw salmon addiction. Although, at lunch time, they never seem to have any nigiri sushi on the line. That's my fave!! The restaurant is clean & all of the staff are very friendly. We did have to remind the waitress to bring us drink refills in a NEW glass & not grab our cup off the table. It is against the board of health to do so. Ocean Star overs punch cards as well. This place was great! The food was really good. They have fresh sushi, a hibachi grill, and the buffet options were great as well. I've been to a lot of Chinese buffets across the US, and this one can compete with all the good ones I've been too. On their door, they have an award for 2017 runner-up for best Chinese buffet. Came here for lunch when I was in town for work. This buffet seems to be the typical cheap Chinese-American buffet. Every dished seemed to be hit or miss. The tempura was flavorless, but the corn fritters were delicious. The hibachi grill was good, but the stuffed crab fell flat. Most of the traditional Chinese-American dishes were pretty good, but some of them just weren't. The sushi tasted like it had been sitting out awhile. The banana pudding was excellent!
