This is a fine place for sushi. Here is the Tony run down. Salad - Nice and crisp and the ginger sauce was yummy. Spider roll - This was very good. The crab was nicely fried. Rainbow roll - This was okay. Although the fish was fresh, I had a hard time distinguishing each flavor of the rainbow. They all tasted kinda the same. California roll - Your standard roll at any place. Nothing out of this world and nothing bad. Service - It was a little spotty. We were the only people in here and our waitress just watched TV until we had to call her over for something. She should have been a little more attentive. I will be back to try some other dishes soon. read more

Great little sushi spot and friendly staff. Consistent and fresh sushi, good kitchen dishes as well. In the burbs, it's rare to find good sushi, but Ocean has been reliable for years, it's clean and very relaxing to dine in or timely when taking out. They even have some impressive twists on the usual menu items- one our faves being the ASPARAGUS negimaki- instead of being made with the traditional scallions (which they have too). For a sushi place, it's quite alright, especially since it's very close to my parents' home in New Millie. Chronologically, here is my experience: - PARKING seems like it can be a pain. It's street/metered parking, or maybe you could park in the post office lot across the very busy Oradell Ave, where cars fly by. - SERVICE is above par. The waitress was really sweet, and they even gave us free seafood pancakes on the house. - FOOD and DRINK is just average for me. I ordered a spicy salmon crunchy roll, and I think my sis and hubby ordered something similar, but with different fish. All I can say is that they doused my sushi with spicy sauce. I almost feel like that's cheating in the sushi world, if your fish is fresh, you don't have to overwhelm it with flavors, but just put enough on it to accompany it. Parents got spider rolls, and they seemed pleased with it (they don't normally eat sushi! but they like soft shell crab so this was a nice alternative). Also, I think this place is BYOB! - DESSERT wasn't bad. The green tea flavor is the legit kind you get with that good, bitter matcha flavor. yum! - AMBIENCE-wise, there's pseudo private dining with blankets that cover tables. So, I guess if you don't want to run into an old friend/ex, or don't want to wear make-up, I guess you can opt to sit here! - PRICEWISE, I can't really comment since my Dad wouldn't let me help foot the bill. By far the best quality raw fish in Bergen County. Since moving back from California I have been in search for a Japanese restaurant whose sushi quality was on par with the fresh fish of CA. Finally found a gem here. The fish is always fresh and tasty. The hot dishes are excellent and their restaurant special appetizer is a nice touch. The restaurant atmosphere is really nice and relaxing especially after a long day at work. If taking the train to and from NY make sure to stop here and try the Ocean Roll! read more

It was solid, good but not great. We ordered a bunch of things - edamame, spicy tartare, sushi combo, shrimp tempura roll and sexy roll. Appetizers were okay. Best roll was the shrimp tempura roll as it has the right balance of fish, crunch and toppings. Tuna was fresh and yummy. The sushi combo was eh okay. We will want to explore more before coming back, or atleast reset expectations about suburban sushi. read more

The last two visits I made here make me want to add that 5th star back on! Service has improved dramatically; the servers (two different ones) were excellent. The atmosphere - as always - is tasteful and peaceful. The other reason for the 5th star is that I discovered their hwe dup bap! So fresh and delicious... it's my new go-to item on the menu. The layers of flavor are just incredible, and the ingredients are very fresh and tasty. 5 stars again for one of my favorite local restaurants... I really can't complain!!! My favorite roll here is the Volcano roll it's so good and I'm currently craving it and that's why I'm writing a review right now haha. It's huge so you should deff just order one unless you have a big appetite but it's very filling you'd be surprised. Ocean Sushi is a great local sushi spot. I always walk out of here completely stuffed. The atmosphere is pretty nice. They actually put a cloth hanging up to separate some of the tables so it feels a bit more intimate. The service is always outstanding; they are very attentive. I have tried many sushi rolls here including the Dragon Roll (one of my favorites- I love the warm eel inside mixed with cold avocado on top), Riverside Roll, Sexy Roll (the name is hilarious but it's soo good! I always get this one), What's going on roll and, of course, the Oh My God Roll- the entire roll is tempura and it's outstanding!! I also always get Miso Soup and Seaweed Salad. The seaweed salad could be bigger- they do the famous trick where they put romaine lettuce under the salad -__- but it's still very tasty and not too oily. I've been here at least 10 times so I guess I'm considered a regular here. It's a great place that worth a try! you will love it. Oh, and it's BYOB! read more

Best restaurant in Oradell!! The sushi is expertly prepared and everything is always fresh and delicious. The Itamae (sushi chef) is fantastic and I would love to see his Omakase on the menu in the future...maybe sometime in 2011 ;) There are also wonderful, authentic small plates and hot entrees in a addition to an extensive and creative sushi menu. Portions are quite large and a real value given the quality of the food. The service is super friendly, very knowledgeable, and extremely attentive. Also, the restaurant is BYOB! Ocean Sushi has quickly become a favorite, and is great for a casual night out or even a more "romantic" dinner for 2. The area needs more local restaurants like Ocean Sushi. I've tried this sushi spot twice now, picking up. The first time I got 2 pieces of salmon sushi just to try it, as you never know what the freshness level will be. The salmon was extremely fresh and yummy. My partner got a chicken tempura and avocado roll which he liked much more than other sushi spots. The next time, he ordered more of the same as well as some spicy tuna rolls he loved. I got more salmon, expecting the same high standard as last time. Unfortunately I was met with a disappointing inconsistency. While still very fresh, all the pieces of fish were cut differently. Sushi has to have that perfect cut for the best texture and chew in your mouth. The fish should almost melt like butter. A couple pieces did, but most were cut too thick or one side was thick and then very thin. Also, this salmon sushi was 3.50 per piece. Usually I expect 2 pieces for that amount. So 8 pieces of salmon sushi turned out to be expensive and not worth it which is so disappointing. Their ebi shumai was delicious, another reason I'm so upset about my salmon. I want to say there's enough goodness here to make me try again, but it's too pricey to justify what might or might not be awesome sushi. I wouldn't discourage you from trying it, as the freshness was on point. I wish I could give 4 or 5 stars based on just that, but I can't quite go that high with such a pricey mistake. read more

It's always nice going back home and catching up with friends. I was able to do that here and enjoy some pretty good sushi too. Ocean Sushi is a BYOB and is just as empty as I remember it. I guess it has more of a take out clientele. The space is very open, nice and clean. Im a little surprised it doesnt have a little more traffic but then again its Oradell so God forbid there be thriving restaurant businesses in town. Parking was annoying I suppose just because it's winter time and if you arent lucky enough to secure a spot right in front and avoid being run over by the a- holes flying down Oradell Ave then you have to park on the side street or commuter parking lots. Beyond that though the service and food were very good. Our waitress was very sweet and not over attentive. We started off with edamame and gyoza. She also brought us out complimentary tempura pancakes which were delicious. We ordered a few specialty rolls to split; Oradell Roll, Oh My God Roll, Ocean & Sexy Roll. All were very fresh and tasty. Ok. First of all this place didn't look at all intriguing but I tried it. The atmosphere was decent enough for me to walk inside the door. The Japanese lady tells me to sit down and we do. Then I order. The Salmon Terryaki From The Kitchen Lunch Special that comes with a salad. Woope. For 10 bucks. After a few minutes the one waitress that was there brings me the salad. It was a good ginger dressing but it looked like they took a pile of lettuce and stuffed dressing on it. It had no certain mixture of vegetables. It was lettuce and dressing. Bleh. I give it a 3.5/5 Then 10 minutes after I get the Salmon. It is 2 pieces of salmon over too much onions and vegetables with a bowl of rice. The terryaki sauce was good but the onions and veggies ruined the neatness of the meal. Flat out good Salmon. 4/5 I would recommend this place to others but you definitely don't need reservations. one of my favorite sushi spots in the area and let me tell you, there's a LOT in bergen county! cutting to the chase its reasonably priced, friendly staff who recognizes us every time we stop in, nice environment, BYOB and of course good food! the little curtains separating tables are also a nice touch. they are also open pretty late even on weekdays which is nice to find after a long day at work. we are huge fans of the Gyoza dumplings & Yaki Udon - think Lo Mein-ish but with chicken and a little sweeter instead of heavy & fried. we once made the mistake of just ordering udon noodles which is basically miso soup with big noodles... completely different dish so beware! as someone else mentioned they do hook it up with the seafood pancakes to hold you over during the (short) wait for the main course. the place always has people in it no matter the time. totally recommend it for a nice quiet night out for din locally the only thing is the specials haven't changed in months. same neon dry erase board as soon as you walk in every time. we would love to see something different to try! read more

I eat here fairly regularly, and have yet to get a bad meal. Prices are reasonable, but it's not a cheap night out. It is BYOB, and Frost Liquors is around the corner if you forget. It's difficult for me to recomend any one dish, as the sushi is all great, but I love the Sushi Pizza, sushi tuna-salad over a rice patty that has been fried to give it a crunchy shell. So, I have been eyeing this place for a while now and finally decided to try it. That being said, the place was decorated very nicely. It was very quiet, the hostess was very warm & polite. I placed my order to take out and was so hoping to LOVE this place, it being so close to me. Nothing was fresh, it wasn't spoiled but it wasn't fresh. I ordered the Shrimp Tempura Roll and it tasted as though the shrimp was cooked that morning and was served to me @ 6pm. I ordered the Spicey Tuna & Salmon Roll, also not fresh. The rolls were very small and were placed, mor elike squished into a small container. I will not be returning to the Sushi Restaurant, nor would I recommend. Huge let down. read more

I love that the spicy rolls are fresh fish with a spicy sauce versus the pureed version that most sushi places serve. The sticky rice is cooked fresh for every roll. BYOB is a huge perk! We've been coming here every week lately. We used to go to Sushi Village in Westwood, but this was closer to us so we decided to try it. I must say we're impressed with the sashimi. I think the sushi and sashimi here are far better than Sushi Village, which used to be our favorite until we tried Ocean Sushi. Another good thing is that you don't wait for a table for a long time. I'm almost afraid to say that people should come here, because we love that it's sort of a hidden gem in this quaint neighborhood. We're a fan of almost all their sushi specials and we always get the sashimi platter for 2. Their yellowtail and white tuna just melts in your mouth. The iced organic green tea is super refreshing. We can never resist the spider roll. Customer service is also superb! It's quieter and more zen compared to Sushi Village. read more

This place is great! The pictures did make it look a little bigger than it is but still a good amount of tables. My friend and I decided to go here because it's in the middle of our houses. We both got one roll and then shared a dragon roll, one of my favs. The dragon roll was great. They drizzled enough of the brown sauce over the plate which me and my friend used to cover our sushi. The way the avocado was layered over the roll was beautiful. It looked like a fish's scales. I got the ocean roll which was wrapped in this green paper like stuff - not seaweed. It was good. I forget what was in it but it had avocado and some tempura fish. I think eel tempura. My friend got the Oradell roll. She wanted a custom roll but the woman working recommended this roll and she let my friend ads cream cheese and avocado to it. It had red snapper tempura on the top. My friend enjoyed it. All of the plating was so nice! The best I've seen in a sushi place. The wasabi wasn't just in globs. They piped it in a flower shape. And sprinkled what we think was seaweed flakes all over. It was great! We also got friend vanilla ice cream which was incredible. Some sushi places don't do them right. I've had it where the dough wasn't crispy and wasn't hot. These guys did it good. We got hot fudge too. Also, we tried their ice green tea. It was so refreshing and very green! I guess it was mancha kind that is powdery. The best part was the lady that worked there. Sushi can't live up to her! She was so hospitable. Even apologized for our food taking a little long. She knew we were really hungry. My husband and I are quite the sushi snobs. We have tried many places all over jersey and have terrible experiences, mediocre, and excellent. Ocean definitely wins for excellent. The place itself is small, and tastefully decorated. Great place for a date night. I am always excited when they offer brown rice rolls bc obviously it's healthier and they were able to accommodate.
