    Spicy Salmon Rolls

Really loved my experience at Ocean Sushi! They have different lunch options. The one I chose was 2 rolls for $13. Both rolls I got were Spicy Salmon. The salmon was actually fresh pieces; not that chopped mushiness that you get at other sushi shops. Only got lunch to go, but the inside was beautiful! I plan to come back for dinner one night. From the outside, it looks like a small store front. But there is actually a beautiful ambiance going on inside! I plan to come here for a sit down meal in the near future.

Got takeout tonight and I thought the food was quite good. I ordered several sushi rolls, a shrimp & vegetable tempura, a salmon skin salad, and an Agedashi tofu. None of them were spectacular, but all of them were pretty good. The only negative was that the salad was super small. You could realistically finish it in 4-5 bites. Prices weren't bad and the food was well-packed.

Pretty busy for a small sushi place off a main road in Oradell. My husband and I are new patrons and yelped this place craving sushi. There's parking across the street and also limited street parking. The restaurant was very cozy with minimal seating. I would say the place seats 30-40 if you utilize the bar. Coming here on a Saturday at a busy dinner time, my husband and I opted to sit at the bar. Service: unfortunately wasn't the best I've encountered. We sat down for a good 10 minutes before anyone came and asked us for our drinks. Understandably, there was only two waitresses, but it shouldn't have taken that long just to ask for our drink orders. Anyways, after closing our menus and chatting, someone finally came and asked us for our drinks. The second waitress came and took our food order which we didn't have to wait too long for. A few cons with sitting at the bar; the waitresses lean over you to pick up sushi orders, dirty trays are placed at the end of the bar, and take out is being packed up at the other end of the bar. Our water/tea was never refilled and our check was given to us even before asking if we wanted anything else, which we did (the tempura ice cream) and before we were ready to leave. Food: I've had my share of sushi and this place definitely is at the top of my list. My husband ordered the chicken katsu which was probably one of the better ones I've had. The chicken is cooked right and the dish provides more than enough to share between two people. I ordered the Godzilla roll which consisted of avocados, salmon, and rice, wrapped in a tempura shell instead of the rice. It's covered in a sweet and spicy sauce which was a little over done for my personal taste, but nonetheless, the sushi was delicious. My husband HAD to get the green tea tempura ice cream, which wasn't great at all. The green tea ice cream was hard and chunky, which made me think the ice cream was getting old. Needless to say, I've had better tempura ice cream. I do recommend this place if you're looking for good sushi in the area. I don't suggest sitting at the bar because of all the cons I've mentioned and I wouldn't come at a busy time on a Friday/Saturday. Ultimately, I would probably just order take out from this place and eat the sushi at the comfort of my own home. I took one star away from this place because of the service. Like I said, I would come here after peak dinner hours or most likely order take out.

So I had an early dinner here last night with a friend and the place was completely empty. But as it got later, it started to fill up. It's got a nice ambiance, with intimate lighting and dark wood furniture. Needless to say, we were seated quickly. We received our menus and the sole waitress took our drink order. I tried their unsweetened iced green tea. It was good, not too bitter. Decided to have the Eel, Spicy Tuna, and Hot rolls. The eel and spicy tuna were fresh and tasty. They didn't skimp on the fish. The Hot Roll was very good, interesting texture and good balance of flavors. It was cooked, but it was different than any other special rolls I've had at other places. For dessert, we split the tempura ice cream. It was presented very well. The warm, crispy, tempura shell and cold, soft, ice cream were an excellent contrast. I'd like to go back to try their other rolls. And the sushi pizza sounds interesting.

Good local sushi place; like that it's a byo. A bit pricy which made me give it 3 stars, but the food was good. Really nice severs.

The only issue was that it's a little awkward being the only table in the restaurant and sitting at the sushi bar... Cause we had like eight people attending us and looking at us and listening to our every word. But you can look at it in another way and assume it felt like more of a private dining experience, which is cool. Because it was our first time there, we didn't wanna opt for the Omakase because my husband and I have had mediocre Omakase experiences and they don't come cheap. And something we didn't realize that this place does, that many other Omakase places don't do, is make their sauces in house to pair with the fish. A lot of omakase spots locally don't care to make a budget for sauces when they can get it ready made. A huge unique selling point of this place was at each sauce was separately made and stored in different containers to pair with the fish it was intended for... And when the chef had mentioned that a lot of Omakase places don't do this, It made a lot of sense. We ordered the Hamachi Jalapeño, tuna Crispy rice, tuna 5 ways, single nigiri pieces of sea bream and mackerel on my side and my husband ordered more basic pieces which I can't recall. We also Ordered the Hokkaido scallop cucumber roll. As soon as we tried the apps, we regretted not doing the omakase just because we knew it was gonna be that good. For Context, I haven't found any place in New Jersey that felt like a go to sushi spot that had high-quality fish, incredible pairings and seemingly consistent. The Hamachi jalapeño were bigger cuts of tuna with like this jalapeño paste sauce. It was amazing and proper spicy. No addtl sauce needed. The crispy rice tuna was insane. The hot rice paired with the cold tuna and their fixings were amazing. It didn't look like much, but it packed a huge punch of flavor. I think it might be the wasabi they use But both the wasabi and soy sauce were insanely good The tuna way of our little attempt at omakase ish. They gave you four pieces of Nigiri ( 2 being fatty tuna pieces) And a chopped tuna hand roll. I'm a texture person so I wasn't a fan of the hand, but each piece of tuna was better than the next. The fatty ones were insanely melty and lovely And I just really goes to show that I don't think I've had good high quality, fresh sushi or fish from many places Because no place matched up to this. I had ordered a piece of sea bream which was insanely good. I've never tried anything like that before and if I could, I would order 20 of those alone. The mackerel was really good and not fishy at all as well. The Hokkaido scallop Cucumber roll was very simple, but packed a huge bunch of flavor when you dipped it in the spicy sauce that it was paired with alongside a soy sauce wasabi combo. You could taste the quality and freshness. I was drinking a glass of sparkling wine... The wine was fine before I had the sushi... But drinking a sip while eating my sushi totally changed my palette as the sparkling wine paired so well that it became sweet. Last, but not least the miso cheesecake - Absolutely incredible and made in house. We ordered two more to go And they thought we were joking. That's how good it was. I don't miss New York City when I have sushi from places like this.

I enjoyed the best spider roll of my life. The soft shell crab was encased in the most perfect rice. My boyfriend was wowed with his selections and the green tea was fresh, hot and satisfying. Definitely highly recommend though you may need to plan in advance and make a reservation.

From the outside and inside, it really doesn't look like much. They're currently operating as take-out only - no dining in. The interior is a bit messy and disorganized, but you'll look past that once you try their sushi. Their menu offers your Japanese classics - regular sushi rolls, special sushi rolls, sashimi, bento boxes, udon, salads, soups, tempura, etc. I highly recommend their lunch and dinner specials - it's the best bang for your buck! Everything is reasonably priced and you'll get your money's worth. The full menu is available on their website. You have to call to place your order and then pick it up. You pay once you're there. I don't think they use third-party services anymore like Uber or DoorDash. I've been ordering their lunch special (3 rolls for ~$16 with complimentary soup or salad) and I'm always satisfied. My food takes around 15-20 minutes to be ready, which is very reasonable. I haven't had any issues with the service here. They are efficient, pleasant, and always get my order right. My favorite rolls are the spicy salmon, spicy tuna, and eel & avocado. The fish to rice ratio is perfect. They pack your rolls with a huge portion of fish. The rice is well seasoned with vinegar, sugar, and salt. The tuna and salmon are incredibly fresh and they're actually spicy!!! They even include a few complimentary pieces of deep fried California rolls. This is one of my go-to spots for a satisfying and filling sushi meal. And you cannot beat the price and value!

Prior to arrival, the driver was instructed to access the property from the right side of the house where there were no steps. Despite those instructions, the vehicle was driven onto my lawn. In my observation, the truck became stuck and spun its wheels repeatedly, leaving significant ruts in the yard. I questioned the driver at the time about why he was driving on the lawn. The situation became extremely disruptive to the event. The driver asked guests for assistance moving the vehicle multiple times, and several family members spent a significant portion of the celebration dealing with the issue rather than enjoying the occasion. I was also uncomfortable when the driver suggested that my teenage daughter assist with moving the vehicle. The vehicle issues caused substantial delays, and we missed a large portion of the meal and celebration we had planned for my parents' anniversary. After the event, the driver left before cleanup was completed and returned hours later. As a result, my family handled much of the cleanup ourselves, after paying the company a substantial premium to do so. In the end my property sustained substantial damage to my lawn and sprinkler system. The overall experience fell far short of what I expected when hiring a professional catering service for a once-in-a-lifetime family event. When I contacted the company to discuss my concerns, I was disappointed by their response. Rather than addressing the issues I raised regarding the event and the damage that occurred to my property, the company informed me that a waiver had been signed and took the position that it was not responsible for any resulting damages. From my perspective, the response felt dismissive and left me feeling that my concerns were not being taken seriously. I would not use this company again.

We worked with Andrew Jin, one of the owners, and unfortunately, our experience was nothing short of a nightmare. Our contract did not reflect the sushi display we had selected, and instead of confirming the display beforehand, Andrew sent an oversized boat that was simply too tall for our guests to access on our kitchen island. About 45 minutes before our event, Andrew admitted there was no time to switch the display and gave us an ultimatum: accept the display as-is or have the chef leave without serving. Given that we had no food alternatives, I reluctantly agreed to accept the display, though I was clearly unhappy with the situation. However, after that phone call, Andrew instructed his chef to pack up and leave, even though I repeatedly begged him to stay and serve our guests. He stopped answering my calls, and my fiancée and I were left in a panic as our rehearsal dinner was essentially ruined. While a full refund was issued, its clear that this was done out of spite rather than good faith, despite what Andrew may claim. I want to emphasize that this is not about money, nor am I seeking any compensation. My only purpose is to caution potential clients: if you have an important event, I strongly urge you to look elsewhere for catering. I could never, in good conscience, recommend SEP Catering to anyone.
