I've never dined in or ordered for delivery; only ordered sushi twice to pick up before class (I'm a student at Eastwick College right down the street). I'd consider dining in though! Despite its smaller size, the restaurant provides a casual yet warm and inviting ambiance. If you're an eel lover, I highly recommend the Rochelle roll! It's made with eel, crab, tempura flakes, caviar, kanpyo, avocado, and cucumber topped with eel sauce. The tempura flakes give it a great, crunchy texture and the eel and crab taste fresh and flavorful. The Rochelle roll is also served as a jumbo roll - aka it'll either take me two polite bites to eat one piece or I can go straight up savage and (unsuccessfully) attempt to stuff a whole piece into my mouth. For $13.95, you're definitely getting a bang for your buck! I'm salivating just writing about it. The staff is also very friendly. The two men I've interacted with at the register speak English very well, and one of them offered a few recommendations when I asked him which sushi roll I should get if I love eel. The second time I ordered for pick up, I did it over the phone around 7pm and asked them to have it ready by 8pm and they did. I'm so glad I found a high quality sushi place only minutes away from my school! I can't wait to try other foods on their menu. Consider me a new regular. read more

My friend used the restroom when we got in and noted the bathroom was dirty. That should have been our first sign to leave, but our first choice of restaurant was closed. Due to COVID, we were able to sit inside, and the doors were open for air flow, and it felt cold inside. Eventually, they closed doors. The service was amazing, but slow due to the amount of take out orders that were being handled. The staff was busy, and as attentive as they could be under the circumstances. We were comped a couple of items because if the slower service, which was greatly appreciated. We had several hand rolls, and appetizers that were amazing. I will be back again very soon either to dine in or take out. So, if you are in Ramsey or anywhere nearby this, and live great sushi, this is a must have. I highly recommend Maguro!!! read more

worst restaurant experience ever. if i could give negative stars, i would. we sat down and it was completely empty, so we expected us to be their priority. wrong. my friend ordered a few things and after her order the waitress with a new employee watching her said "oh so many for you!" laughing as she almost fat shamed my friend. not only did she make my friend feel awful about her order, the ramen she requested to be plain and emphasized plain, of course, comes out with everything in it. as if it couldn't get worse, i tried to order ramen, but i have an egg allergy. when i see how visibly condescending and confused our waitresses were (plural), i made sure to emphasize an egg allergy and asked if they had egg in their noodles. the response i got "maybe" with a laugh. so then i settled for a sushi roll with no sesame also due to an allergy. and to no shock, i got sushi with a few sesame seeds on each roll. so now im sitting here, picking sesame off all of my sushi rolls, working harder to eat my food than they worked to make it. while all of this is happening, the waitress has the audacity to walk up and play with my car keychain. absolutely worst experience. do not come here. read more

We just ordered here for the first time and did take out. We live in town and this is very close by. I think the sushi was excellent and the fish was very fresh. On sushi alone, I would've give a five star review. The reason I gave fewer star is because we got someone else's order. We called Immediately after realizing, our order was quickly remade, and we got our correct order in about 20 minutes. We didn't realize that our order was wrong until we got home (~3 mins after getting the food) and we got a slight attitude that we should've checked before leaving. Food was really great, though our take-out struggled a bit. We ordered for pick up and arrived at the time slot given, but the sushi took ~20 minutes longer. Not a huge deal, especially given Covid times and it being a Friday night. Nevertheless, the food surely made up for it. For apps, the kani salad was a bit on the small side, but the house salad was fresh and the ginger dressing was tasty. The Tri-Colored fish appetizer was so delicious; three of the most common sashimi pieces, with such a yummy and fresh sauce. The yellowtail with fried onions was raved about, and all the kids loved the fried shumai. As for rolls, these were some of the best I've had in a while. Some of our favorites included the Pink Lady Roll, the Lobster Salad Crunch Roll, Crab Dynamite, and the Kicker roll. I would definitely recommend! read more

The owner helped me with my selections because of my dietary challenges (gluten-free and dairy free) and was very knowledgeable with all the sauces and ingredients. Love this place for sushi. Atmosphere is wonderful. Service is all spot on. Sushi is classic, not many fancy crazy rolls that all taste the same. Everything is unique, delicious. Every time I walk in here I'm always greeted by hellos from the staff as if we have known each other for years. There all so kind and gracious. I've eaten here solo, with my dining partner as well as with large groups where we sat in the back in the small private rooms. Even there non sushi dishes are delicious. The restaurant is clean and welcoming with somewhat random English songs of all different genres playing softly in the background. I love the combos and specials offered at Maguro such as the 2 or 3 rolls for a discounted price or the bentos. I also appreciate the extra treat sometimes given in house and have yet to be disappointed by anything I've tasted. Will definitely continue to visit this place when I'm in the area. Honestly, I love this place. I've been going for about 4 years now since I moved to Mahwah. I love the service. The people are so so friendly and we kind of got to know them and the waitress is a really sweet lady. Sometimes it gets busy but they're always accommodating and kind. Lately they've even been giving out free samples of new food for the menu, which duh, I love! The food is great. Not to toot my own horn, but I like to consider myself an Udon Connoisseur. I order udon soup from almost every sushi place I go to. This has got to be my top 2 favorite (other is Yuki Hana, but that's another story). The sushi and fish always tastes really fresh, and I can be mad picky with my sushi. Every person I bring here also falls in love with this place, even the pickiest of eaters (my mom included). Until last week, when within minutes of eating a tuna sushi roll, I developed a histamine reaction and was almost sent to the hospital with scombroid poisoning! Come here at lunch during work and we enjoy it. We still like Cocoro better though so that's our go-to option if we have more time. My friends like the sushi and I've enjoyed the bento box lunches whenever I have them. They don't upcharge for brown rice, which is a plus since I've been noticing other places have been getting cheap and charging. Nothing too out of the ordinary to report so this will be pretty short. Well, be careful of the wait here! We ordered to go from pick up and had to wait 30 minutes! The sushi prices vs. how much you get is confusing, so specify. There were extravagant rolls but for like 8 dollars or so, reason being- they only give 4 pieces! Others were more expensive and they had 8 pieces but they were a little small. Most of the sushi tastes good though, we had one roll which was the 4 pieces and huge- it was really good. The other sushi is not amazing, but it is decent. I will go back because i think we chose the wrong special rolls which maybe is why we werent very impressed (it was good though, dont get me wrong! its a better sushi in the area) There are many choices that are decently prices, and the classic fall back, spicy tuna, was really great, so i'm going back to test out more rolls! read more

Just had lunch here for the second time. Food was pretty comparable to our first visit, for the most part. I ordered a specialty roll and a yellowtail roll, and my husband got a bento box and spicy yellowtail roll. The waiter came back to our table and told me they were out of yellowtail but still had the spicy yellowtail for my husband's roll. I was sort of dumbfounded as we both found it kind of odd that the spicy yellowtail was pre-prepared, but whatever. I got the Maguro roll, which was filled with spicy tuna and topped with tuna, and it was pretty fresh tasting, if not overly flavorful or exciting. I also ordered the dynasty roll in place of the yellowtail roll. I assumed it would be common sense to use extra fish of some other sort, but the waiter came back to tell me that there was yellowtail in that roll too, so I had to tell them to use extra salmon. Both rolls were decent, again, not the best sushi I've ever had, but certainly not the worse. My piece of ikura sushi was a touch fishier than it was last time. One thing that was the same as last time is that the restaurant was very cold. We noticed that last time as well, and we also noticed that last time, they turned the heat up once a few more guests came in. This time, we were the only 2 people in the restaurant the entire time we were there. Turn the heat up, and don't make your customers cold. Again, Tawara down the road is my favorite for this area, but on a Saturday for lunch, this place is decent. read more

I haven't been here in a few years, as I usually go to Tawara's, and now I remember why. This place is a standard sushi restaurant. I ordered the vegetable roll box and the sushi was fine - no complaints. For $10.95, it also came with a salad and three shumai. Maguro seems to offer a good selection of other rolls like the Ramsey roll, but I have tried other sushi places that offer more in the bento boxes, with friendlier service. If you are in the area, I would recommend Tawara's instead. read more

I love the sashimi salad bowl with brown rice on the side. It's chef's choice for fish but fresh. The chirashi sauce is spicy, even for this heat lover so use with caution.
