This small HS located in northwest HB is okay. The campus is well maintained and has a unique atmosphere for a HS setting. It provides an adequate number of resources for the students from athletics to Academic programs. Although it's the lowest performing HS in HBUHSD, it may be suitable for some teenagers looking for a solid education and extra-curricular outlets. While some teachers are good, there are some who need to retire. Namely, Grant Mosher, who is a flabby, haggard and obnoxious slug of flesh. His jokes don't land well, and the kids don't seem to appreciate him, but rather just endure his pointless rants. His clothes look like they stick to him as they just hang over his droopy body. However, they do have some very bright and engaging talents in the teacher lineup: Mr. Martasian, Mrs. Nacapuy, Ms. Rivers and some others, who look promising in paving a bright future for students. read more

Ocean view high school is on of my favorite high school's that I ever been to. The I.D.E.A.S program is a special educational program for students that have special needs. I have autism and I've been in the program for four years now and just graduated from this school and the staff and teachers are just so nice there. read more

Attended in my final two years. It is a total vibe. What makes this school so great is that everyone is so down to earth. Teachers and classmates. There are rules but the people that enforce them care about you as a human individual and don't hate you like every other school I've been to. Even the scummiest classmates are treated like individuals it's unbelievable. My only problem with the school is that every bathroom is locked shut because of a vaping epidemic, but that didn't stop anything and now every student had to walk a mile to the big crowded bathroom near the cafeteria. Also Mrs. White, she is so twisted and evil! One time she ripped up my written essay just because she thought it would be funny! She has also pushed me down a flight of stairs. Smallest of the HB high schools. My son never wanted to go to his home school, Marina (my and my husband's high school), so we sent him to FVHS. It was ok for him, but he decided to transfer to OVHS after freshman year, and very happy that he did. Smaller class size, more of a 'you know everyone' school, and less peer pressure overall. Title I, so funds available for technology and extras. We recommend it! read more

I went to Ocean view high school all four years of my high school career and I had a blast! I did Marching band all four years and we won the title of division 1 state champions for 3 years! This school is different than most other high schools in the area. Unfortunately it has been misrepresented by most people with rumors about it being a "ghetto school" or "it's not as good as Marina HS or HBHS." Don't listen to these people they don't know what they're talking about because they want to say, do and go where everyone else is going so they can fit in. When I was in middle school everyone I knew was going to Fountain valley HS and it was difficult for me because I was in band and Fountain valley has a very strong music program and FVRR. (Fountain Valley Royal Regiment: Fountain Valley's marching band). When I saw Ocean view's music program it was not as big because the school isn't as massive as FVHS, therefore everyone automatically said it "sucks" just because of that, but if I were to join an ensemble of Fountain valley's size I knew they would cut me out of the group like they do to a lot of the students just because they don't learn as fast as others, but hey that's just me. Obviously not everyone is a band enthusiast like I am and I am not hating on other schools because everyone has their Pro's and Con's, but if you want to be treated like one of thousands upon thousands of people then school's like Fountain valley, marina, and Huntington Beach are the schools for you. But if you want to be treated like family surrounded by staff who actually cares about their students and if you also want to have a block schedule where you don't have to have every class every day and have teachers that are more nice than most teachers in the district AND also have all you need in walking distance since it's a much smaller campus then Ocean view is for you! I would also like to add that Ocean view's music program keeps growing every year and the Ocean view high school Seahawk squadron has moved up to division 2 and they never cease to amaze me with their hard work and dedication. read more

It's ridiculous how the current principal decides how to discipline students. Today I heard about a fight that occurred on school campus. The students involved where let of with a warning. Might I add the students are in the football team. While another fight between female students ended up in suspensions and police involvement. Aw, I can't believe you can Yelp your high school. I don't care what the haters say: "It's the ghetto school", "This school sucks, I hated the burritos", "How dare they take away my freedom to show my nasty feet in grubby flip flops" etc. etc. etc. WHATEVER. It's not supposed to be paradise, it's high school. And honestly, OV was my home high school and I was loyal to it; I went there and since it was small, managed to make a difference and, most importantly, meet my future husband. When I went it had gross carpet (especially in the band room, ick) the walls were paper thin, there was no pool, no football stadium, tennis courts, or any other stuff they have now, and you know what? That built character, damn it. I was in band, too, and Jonathan S. I fully agree w/ you about the band thing, but again, it built CHARACTER. Being drum major (and pretty much running the show) taught me what I was made of and now I am a teacher, and a good one. I wouldn't trade my experience at OV for anything. I easily could've been a deserter and transferred somewhere else, but I am proud of my little school, who incidentally has fantastic academics and some great sports (hello, basketball???). It's where I met my dream man, learned a lot about myself, and had a GREAT time. I guess people who were looking for high school to be a cookie cutter, picture-perfect paradise just wouldn't get it, but I loved my little school and was fiercely loyal to it and still am. Review is on the gym. I'm a sub for an OSCA basketball that i've been playing for over 10 years. We play at different High Schools all over Orange County this season it's been here. The gym here is very nice and clean they run 3 courts here. Overall very nice gym. read more

Give this school a break. It's not the school or teacher that is bad or anything, it's the kids that go there. When kids are bad in school, it's not necessarily teacher's fault. It's the parents fault as well for not taming their kids. I see a lot of rude, bad attitude kids coming here. I don't blame the school for it, they are so limited. Their parents need to smack the hell out of these kid's mouth. Located almost across from Liberty Christian School, you can see a night and day comparison of the kids. Well-mannered vs. ill-mannered. Parents are more well off and fully support their kid through school sure shows in the kid's behavior. I'm sure if the parents of Ocean View Student support their kids like Liberty Christian does, their kids should turn out better. The staff of Ocean View High are super duper nice. read more

LOL! I can't believe you can Yelp your H.S., and that 3 people already have... It is kind of pointless reviewing a place I started going to 2 decades ago, especially considering how much the place has drastically changed since then. I was here when Bush was in office and we were at war with Iraq. The first time. OVHS was an interesting place, where I got a little rebellious. The portable classrooms were pretty bad, so was the Taco Bell on campus. Security was too lax (I took full advantage at the time). If I state how, I could never be elected President. :D They have some horrible teachers I will never forget (Leigh Hamp), and some of the most inspirational teachers I have ever had (The late Tony Deal - RIP my friend!). There was an Indian Burial Ground they kept trying to pave over then were forced to stop when they got sued. It is now paved over, the track field is a Home Depot, they built a tennis court and I think a pool and stadium too - all since I left. The place was small and cheesy, and I had a lot of bad times there, but mostly I had a blast! :) P.S. - knowing how easy it is to do things you don't want your kids to do here, I wouldn't enroll my kids.... read more

High school, high school, high school.... I kinda miss you, just a teeny tiny bit! Ocean Views choice in ciricumlum isn't all that great. I mean sure you have you general classes like english, math, and science. When it comes to extra classes there aren't many options. Foreign language wise you have Spanish, Chinese, and French. Music wise you have Band and Choir. Sports wise there is Tennis, Basketball, Soccer, Football, Volleyball, and more. Then there is Mechanics, Foods, Photo, Art, and Ceramics. I have just summerized all the classes available at Ocean View High School. There are some great aspects to thing school though. It isn't your typical High School. Its small and there is an ethnically diverse student population. There are virtually no "bullies" and fights are very rare. There is the academically challenging IB program which isn't available at all high schools. SEAHAWKS RULE FOOLS! read more

I only spent 3 out of my 4 years of highschool at OV, (transferred to HBHS). But the time I did have there, OV made it the best three years. I was on the cheer team for two years and getting involved with things like that was what helped me grow and become more sociable than I already was. Smaller side of the HS's in Hb but they have a great staff. Much better the HBHS what has a huge drug issue and has bunch of kids who are stuck up. The pool is really nice and the sports programs have produced some great athletes. The music program also has done really well in the music competitions. read more

OVHS is a great school. The smaller campus makes it easier to get to know other kids and the staff are awesome. Most of the kids in our neighborhood go to Marina, but OVHS has the IB program and the appeal of being a smaller school. My twins graduated from OVHS in 2016 and my youngest will be a freshman there in the fall. Very happy with our experience at OVHS! read more

OceanView High School is the pinnacle of prestige, sporting the finest instructors and the most accomdating staff faculties. I was ever so pleased when I heard I was accepted in the school, throughout my four years, l have never been so grateful. I got into OCC and currently pursueing my art major because of the fine instructions of Mr. Borowski. If I ever earn a decent wage, I will donate to this school for all its done for me. Staff members at this school are extremely unpatriotic and anti military. They actively hinder members of the military from presenting career options to seniors. However, they allow for profit colleges complete and free access to the student population ( even though this school is a) funded by taxpayer money b) most students have to take out loans to afford college).Staff members are unprofessional in that they let their personal opinions and politics determine the information students have access to. read more

First of all... this school does not have an ocean view. Yes, its in Huntington Beach, but its a good 4 miles away from water. Second, what school in any beach city does not allow people to wear flip flops to school? I have been to 3 different high schools, and I gotta say, this is by far the WORST school imaginable. Again, the no flip flop thing pissed me off. You couldn't dye your hair any "unnatural" colors (no really, one girl got expelled for refusing to change her color). The security was far too hard on you some times, and way to easy on others. They catered to the minorities, which I didn't have too much of a problem with until I saw that they were getting help with their homework and getting A's and B's, when I actually did the work myself and got a C. The teachers were horrible. Mrs. Amellote is the B*TCH from hell. She actually told me on my first day in her class that she already knew I was going to fail her class. Great teaching, Lady! Most of the instructors read from the book and the lectures taught nothing. All around, it was just not a great learning environment at all. Bottomline - Dont send your kids here. HB High would have been a much better choice. read more

Had an awesome football year, teachers are great and yea school is small but you don't worry bout not starting in a sport or group because it's small. Definitely grew a relationship going to this school and I have much pride for this school and will forever support OV. So fuck everybody else where they went to school, school is school.
