This review is two-fold. First I would like to give a HUGE thank you to Ms. Maureen. I was looking for a particular technique of cutting wavey/curly hair and came across Ocean's Edge Salon & Spa. It was late Saturday night, and sent an inquiry email. I wasn't anticipating a response until next week. But, nope! Ms Maureen promptly responded. She answered my questions and offered to assist in any way. THANK YOU, Maureen!! After we exchanged a couple emails, I felt, this is exactly what I am looking for, and scheduled an appointment with Ms. Sharon, the 'Ouidad' stylist. More HUGE THANK YOU's to Ms. Sharon, for listening to my concerns and for knowing exactly what I was looking for. Ms. Sharon is professional, friendly, knowledgeable and has an incredible skillset. My hair grows quickly. My last hair cut was shy of 4 years ago, and it was to my collar bone. Since then it grew down to my 'bootie'. Why did I wait so long? Well, to be honest, I had a hard time finding someone I was truly comfortable with that has the knowledge and skillset. Ms. Sharon was worth the wait. I looked in the mirror, and saw the 'ol me', and I couldn't help but get choked up with happy tears. THANK YOU, MS SHARON for being so wonderful. I looked up this salon using yelp.... I got in contact with Missy.... This salon is in Myrtle Beach SC and I live in Beaufort NC.... We were camping at a local rv park in the area. (But my brother in law lives in Myrtle Beach) I needed a new start for my hair and a new hair dresser!!! Missy gave me an awesome cut and some gloss to help me embrace my grey hair!!!! I was visiting Surfside Beach this spring and to treat myself I decided to research available local salon and spa options . This place seemed appealing at first. I called to ask some questions about different services offered and how much they cost. I spoke to a condescending woman named Jen who addressed me like a kindergarten teacher reprimanding an insolent child. She refused to answer any question directly so I asked her if prices were listed correctly in the brochures she insisted on demanding I reference. I asked what certain add-ons to a haircut , such as the use of toner, would cost and she told me that the salon does not offer a fixed price for specific additional services provided so that they can adjust the price as needed upon checkout . Confused I asked if toner was not a fixed price when used and she said that what the stylists or the salon charge for any service at any time is arbitrary . She was obviously agitated and asked me to hold. Then she hung up on me . I didn't even make it through the door to inquire further I was so surprised by the reaction to a basic question about cost. Certainly not the warm friendly nature I usually encounter in the south . maybe the customer service here is better if you already know them but I'm my experience strangers and walk ins are not their priority. read more

I requested an app. for a haircut in a week or so and really didn't expect to hear or get anything in that time frame. But I was pleasantly surprised when Maureen sent me a text the next day and had an app. available in a few days. The salon is very nice with spa extras, and even a salt sanctuary and juice or wine bar. I was cut and styled by Eliza who was very nice and very proficient at her craft. I went in today for a trim and highlights, mostly for highlights. I had Debbie, the highlights were good, underlayer could have been better, but I followed her advice. My trim, she cut off six inches of my hair! You have got to be kidding me! How do you hack off my hair and not tell me until after you did it!? Yah, I will not be a returning customer. Oh, the mirrors are set very high in this salon so I was unable to see how much she had cut off. Deeply disappointed. read more

Okay. We received a coupon in the mail to welcome us to the neighborhood so I decided how bad could it be? For a little background, I live full time in Loudoun County Virginia where things are severely over priced. Then I had the bright idea that since I spend a lot of time in Myrtle Beach, I should start getting these types of services at a fraction of the price. Good idea, right? Thank you. It only took seven years to come up with that gem. Don't judge. Yelp recommended Maureen so when I called and made the appointment I asked for her. Well, she came and introduced herself and I immediately liked her...reminded me of one of my sisters. I normally don't talk much at the salons but we were chatty Cathy's! I told her a lot of my secrets and she didn't even have to buy me a drink! Needless to say I paid a fraction for my services here and, when it was all said and done, I am a happy camper. I recently took a vacation to Surfside, SC and was so excited to go to the beach and relax when -- BOOM totally forgot to get waxed before I left home. In a pinch I stumbled upon this cute little salon and I was more than pleasantly surprised! I got a Brazilian wax from Amanda, she was absolutely AMAZING! So sweet, and easy to talk to. She gave me all sorts advice about up keep, and also suggested some great places in the city to visit. I would highly recommend this place! Per my discussion with Ken I agreed to return for a trim by Maureen. Maureen was at the entry and said "I've been waiting for you". She began to mock and tease me about the awful haircut I have been living with for 18 months. I put my hand up towards my nose to to hold back tears and gestured with my hand for her to stop. She continued to badger me. At that point, with tears in my eyes, I said I was going to leave. Maureen blew me a kiss and waved goodbye. I was unprepared for such a vicious attack, I returned in good faith, only to be set up. Needless to say I will never return. I have never written a negative review. I made an appointment at the salon based on a recommendation from someone at the salon. They scheduled me with someone who was supposed to be experienced. I was left with marks in my hair where the foil were and they were nowhere near my scalp. I paid for a haircut that took a total of 5 minutes. NOT an exaggeration. During this pandemic I have to give thumbs up to Maureen who owns this salon. I reached out to her on yelp asking if she knew when she will be opening (hair getting frizzy)I have never been to her salon before but I was looking for a new place to go to for my keratin treatments. She responded quickly letting me know that she doesn't have a date yet but if I can swing by she would give me samples of shampoo/conditioner and treatments to use for my hair to help with the frizz. So first let me state that I did NOT end up going to this salon for services! The reason I am giving a review is due to the phone conversation I had when I called for a quote about a week ago. I had been debating on posting my review because it just seemed so cruel what was said over the phone! I'm not one to say names unless I am giving praise! So I won't be naming anyone in this post! So let me state what I was looking for...1. a trim to even out my ends, 2. I wanted color, but not on my whole head. I wanted RED, fire engine red highlights under my hair and only on the sides. So when my hair is down you can see a very small bit of the red, pretty much "peek-a-boo" highlights, and when I tie my hair up you see the red a lot more and 3. Blow dry no styling. So now that you know what I was looking for, here is how my phone conversation went..... So I called and a woman answered, she was very pleasant, sounded very nice, was polite, and professional. However that quickly changed, once I told her what I wanted, and she became rude, obnoxious, and just completely unprofessional! So back to the conversation....I proceeded to ask her how much it would roughly be for what I wanted. She literally burst out laughing!!! I asked her what was so funny and she said what I wanted sounded ridiculous. I asked to speak to whomever was above her, manager/owner, she said that she would not be able to give them the phone because there was no point due to what I wanted was just ugly! I proceeded to inform her why I was doing it, a friend of mine was recently diagnosed with cancer; her favorite color is fire engine red so before her hair starts falling out she wanted to do this, and I said I would do it as well. The womans response and I kid you not was, "She should just shave her head and move on!" At that point I was livid! I said a few choice words to her and hung up! I have read other posts for this place and am wondering what happened!!!??? read more
