The 3rd - 5th grades teach nothing, contain no rigor, have no Catholic teaching, lack classroom management, and the teachers are not credentialed (as indicated). The curriculum is a bunch of supplemental material & the administrator follows common core instead of classical curriculum, which most Catholic schools adhere to in order to set them apart from public school. The middle school math teacher is excellent. The language arts teacher is awful. This school lacks true Catholic doctrine and allows non-Catholic students to take the host. A true disappointment to the San Diego dioceses of schools.

I share how much I appreciate Coastal with friends and even ppl I just met who bring up wanting to homeschool but unsure where or how to start... well Coastal and Classical offer so many choices and leaders that will meet with you and help you decide. They have different options and last year introduced yet another! Our oldest tried it last year and enjoyed it so we've experienced two choices and love both. So if you are trying to decide what's best for your family, I encourage you to reach out to Coastal or a Classical Academy close to you. Another helpful bit of info, they have a zero bullying policy that they actually implement! They talk with the student and parents immediately not allowing it to go on and on. Thankfully our children haven't experienced bullying at Coastal, but overheard a child saying something like another child isnt smart and immediately a teacher called the children to talk with them and the one apologized. In 4 years that is all our children have witnessed. That's how I wish all schools could be but friends have shared so many truly disturbing experiences at other places and little consequences. Several have moved their children to homeschooling full time because of them being bullied. Coastal teachers and volunteers have all been so kind and strive to give kids a welcoming place to learn and have fun while learning. Feel free to message me as well. I'm just a mom who has two kids here since 2022, so I may not know all the answers but I can help!

When I first went there to sign my boys up, the demeanor of the children were very mellow. A very large number of them are very nice. Regarding how they dress, well, they're kids who can dress themselves 4-12th grade to be exact. They have to make their own decisions on some things at some point in their lives. We won't agree with them but they have to start somewhere (in my opinion). I would suggest the person from Carlsbad (Crystal) that had an issue with how the children looked, should stick to Carlsbad where she's more comfortable with how children look in a more affluent neighborhood. The receptionist has her moments but if it bothers you that much the director is very approachable. However regarding the students and faculty, for those who want their children to learn in a diverse environment with children that represents the US and the world, give it a try. I give it only 4 stars because their online educational software is extremely frustrating. On your child's end (their school issued laptop) you see the completed work with their score but on the teacher's end they don't see it completed. I was being a little tough on my son until I had him show me and realized that a large number of assignments his teacher said wasn't completed were completed on the days they were assigned. So, if they are still using that system, have your child take screenshots for their own proof if the teacher begins to say they are missing assignments but your child is adamant they completed them - double check just in case.

Ultimately, we were referred to Carlsbad Country Day School by an acquaintance--and we are so grateful we followed that recommendation. From the moment we toured the school, we were impressed. The staff is incredibly warm and welcoming, the campus is clean and beautiful, and the overall atmosphere is calm, joyful, and thoughtfully run. The curriculum is fantastic--our kids enjoy yoga, sports, reading class, and so much more. The school also provides healthy and delicious meals daily, which has been a huge relief for us as busy parents. Even better? The kids love the food! As for their teachers--Mrs. Gina and Ms. Stephanie are absolutely wonderful. You can tell they truly care about their students and pour so much effort into making each day special. Mrs. Gina creates such a positive and engaging learning environment for our older child, and Ms. Stephanie brings so much warmth, fun, and care to our younger child's classroom. We feel so lucky they have these amazing educators in their lives. Our kids are genuinely excited to go to school each day. One of them won't even say goodbye at drop-off, and at pickup, it's like pulling teeth to get them to leave--honestly, we take that as a great sign! The outdoor space is spacious and full of activities to keep them busy and happy. The school also hosts adorable events throughout the year--like a mother/son dance, a Christmas party, and more--which really make families feel connected. They also offer professional school photos twice a year, and the sibling pictures are to die for--some of the cutest we've ever had taken. We truly feel like we won the lottery finding Carlsbad Country Day School. Our only wish is that they went through elementary school too!

Teachers each have their own personalities, some are super warm, while others are stricter - but they all really try to help every kid. During our 6 years here, we have not experienced any bullying. Actually, every day kids are specifically taught to be kind and supportive to each other, and teachers and the principal get involved (very involved) with any behavior issues immediately. The bad reviews are from a few families that were likely not a good fit from the beginning, even though the school did everything to make them welcome. Over the last few years, the school has grown tremendously, and one thing we'd recommend is that they screen & educate incoming families a bit better.

Teachers like Mrs Bicum, Mrs Cinors Mrs.Lever, Mrs. Theis, and Mrs. Mackey were caring, dedicated, and genuinely invested in helping him succeed. I will always be grateful for the kindness and effort they showed our family. Unfortunately, our experience changed dramatically in 4th grade. My son struggled with reading and had educational needs that required additional support. Instead of receiving the help and encouragement he needed, it felt like the school gave up on him. He went from being a student who earned B and C grades to receiving failing grades, and we saw very little effort to help him maintain the academic progress he had made over the years. During this time, our family was also wrongly accused by a teacher, which resulted in a report being made to CPS. We found this experience deeply upsetting. We were also concerned to learn that the same teacher allegedly shared private information about our family with other parents without our knowledge, which further damaged our trust in the school community. As parents, we were repeatedly made to feel that our son no longer belonged at the school because of his learning challenges and his need for an IEP. Rather than partnering with us to help him succeed, we felt pressured to find another school. The message we received was that Tri-City Christian was not willing or able to support a child who learned differently. If your child is a strong student who does not require academic accommodations and excels in sports, your experience may be very positive. However, if your child struggles with reading, is behind academically, has an IEP, or may need one in the future, I would strongly encourage you to carefully consider whether this school can provide the support your child deserves. What hurt the most was that this happened at a Christian school. By the end of our time there, I felt embarrassed and unwelcome on campus. Every child deserves patience, encouragement, and support--especially when they are struggling. Sadly, that was not our experience during our final years at Tri-City Christian.

For more than 25 years, our family made beautiful memories at Tri-City Christian School. We trusted…read morethe school, supported it, and invested heavily in the community over the years. Sadly, that changed dramatically under the current principal, specifically Mr. Greer and Ms. Helmick. (4th grade teacher) Before Mr. Greer became principal, Tri-City felt like a place built on kindness, partnership, and genuine Christian values. Unfortunately, our experience under his leadership was the complete opposite. In our experience, conversations felt insincere and performative. There were prayers and smiles in person, but the actions behind the scenes contradicted what was said directly to us. Over time, it created an environment where trust disappeared. In our opinion, Ms. Helmick should not be teaching, especially at a Christian school. If she had been the first teacher our family encountered at Tri-City Christian School, we would never have remained there for 25 years. Likewise, because of Mr. Greer's leadership and the decisions he made, we would not return as long as he remains principal. There are many caring teachers and wonderful families at Tri-City, and this review is not directed at them. It is specifically about Mr. Greer and Ms. Helmick. I never imagined I would write a review like this after so many years there. However, the past couple of years under Mr. Greer's leadership, and especially this past year with Ms. Helmick, were unbearable, to say the least. They both get zeros for their dishonesty at a Christian school!
