This place is genuinely wonderful. Great full service pet care, with an incredibly personable and compassionate staff. If you're used to veterinary care in a city like Portland or Seattle, you'll find that the prices are extremely reasonable as well. I came here when my 10 year old pitbull Blue developed a Mast tumor. We wanted advice on surgery and, since mast tumors are usually cancerous, Blue's prospects. We had a thoughtful discussion and had Blue's surgery performed here. They took the time to discussion options and prospects and costs. We proceeded with surgery, and they were great again. Surgery was uneventful and Blue bounced back fast. Not too long thereafter, however, Blue's cancer moved to his lymph system, and then we needed palliative care. Again, really helpful, compassionate care and support. They helped us manage Blue's health, and eventually, we had to put him down. Again, we did this here at Oceanside. And again, they were professional and compassionate and just wonderful people. I just really appreciate the care they provided. read more

They were very kind when I had to have my cat put down but one thing that had been really bothering me is that no one could tell me anything about the cremation place. For example, when I had to have a different cat put down at a different vet they had a brochure from the crematory as well as could tell me that he his Ashe's would be put in an orchard in the property. All I got from here was "I don't know". I finally at least got the name of the place but told I could call them and ask. It would have been nice if they didn't know if they would have offered to at least call. I also didn't think to ask but didn't even get a pawprint. Granted, I didn't think to ask the Dr any of this as my concentration was on my pet so perhaps it was just the front staff who didn't know. Called with an emergency with my small pet and for an emergency they couldn't get us in for an entire week. They told me to take my baby to Portland. I told them they would not make it. They pretty much said kick rocks. So I told them they killed my baby. So they completely dropped all of my pets as patients for "abusing the staff" just because I told them they killed my baby. He did not make it to Portland. They killed him. Small pets are not less than. The pain I feel over the loss of this little guy is just as severe as the pain I would have over losing a dog or cat. read more

I just wanna express my appreciation for Oceanside vet clinic. We were visiting out from out of town, and my elder dog had some sort of scab/abscess that we needed to have looked at. I called them when they open and the woman was so nice and got her in within a couple of hours. The staff was friendly the veterinarian was thorough, it was just nice to get that kind of care especially being from out of town. It's true when you've got a good reputation, it's hard to change it. This vet hospital used to be highly regarded. They've changed. Pet parent, beware My dog was coming in for a follow-up appointment and they charged for an emergency visit. Which was roughly $100 more than they would normally charge if they should charge it all for a follow-up. They're not transparent with their costs. When I tried to challenge this they told me that they were bringing him in on at an emergency appointment as if I'm supposed to know what that means price wise. And they did not tell me that. So I don't appreciate them questioning my veracity. I'm an educated person of not lost my mind. They need to post their their costs at the desk and on their media and when they book the appointment. We've been bringing our cats/dogs here for 3 years now - Prices are lower here than in 'the city', so when we have some 'scheduled' procedures we'll wait till we're at our vacation cabin in Ocean Park. The staff and veterinarian have been professional and thorough. We had to use their emergency call once, the veterinarian responded quickly and met us in the office off-hours, and helped diagnose an emergency condition. When you are the only game in town you can treat people how ever you like - and when you take advantage of that it is just sad. Businesses like this one ought to treat people right regardless of their competition (or lack thereof). Since this is the only veterinarian clinic in the area they get a lot of customers. Normally we are in and out for a nail clip but this morning was sheer chaos. I noted several new employees so maybe that contributed to the confusion. There were a lot of dogs just standing in the back hall - I'm assuming waiting for service. We had to wait 45 minutes for a nail clip that normally is an in and out for 20 minutes tops. Seems like the clinic needs to have some staff meetings to get more coordinated with services and clients. read more

Major disappointment, at a place that had provided excellent care for my pets in the past. I took my two Siamese cats in because they were acting il, after having waited two weeks for the "urgent care" appointment, while my sickest cat drank oceans of water and peed everywhere, which he never does. The vet pushed a little on their abdomens, did some blood work on one of them, no exams, no urinalyses, called me the next day and told me he had a creatinine of 5. No advice, didn't know what was in the supplement she mentioned. Didn't know that rhododendrons are toxic to cats and can cause renal failure. Felt the other cat's belly, gave him two vaccinations and charged me $350. I received an email of her electronic note for the visit, which included two cut-and-paste physical exams that never happened. Ths is not a good look. I'm doing the best I can giving this former feral kitten, a long-haired 5-year-old Siamese, lots of high-quality homemade food, subcutaneous fluids, shots of antibiotics for presumptive kidney infection, and medications I already had around for nausea and anorexia, and we've gotten through a month. It would be great to have a vet to talk to who cared. Lots of interesting factoids about kidney disease in cats I've discovered--like one in three cats with any Persian lineage has polycystic kidney disease and dies of it. This used to be a great clinic. Hopefully, we hit them on a not so good day. read more

The care is okay - certainly better than some of the other area vets. The issues that have been cropping up more and more with this clinic is communication, or lack thereof. I understand they are busy, I really do. But to not bother telling someone no one would be there on the day scheduled for an animal drop off for boarding, to get together the WRONG medication and then be unable to rectify it immediately, to state medication would be ready and then "get really busy with emergencies" and not do the medication but also not inform the pet owner who has to drive some distance to get there... It's really more not being told there was a delay than anything. These three incidents have all happened in the last year. I feel like something is amiss with how the clinic is being managed, perhaps? I can't remember the last time I called and wasn't immediately put on hold... read more

The vets were absolutely amazing. Friendly and took there time to answer all my questions.

I requested my little 6-year-old dog's entire records and was upset by what I found. She had two Senior Panels and there were five abnormal findings. I was not given a copy of the results and the abnormal findings were not discussed with me. Furthermore, on 04-09-2022, the vet wrote, "Moderate tarter no gingivitis." On 10-27-2022, the same vet wrote, "Mild tarter." Two months later, on 12-27-2022, she did a dental cleaning on my dog and extracted EIGHT teeth! That vet wrote that six teeth were "loose/infected" and there were two root fragments that needed to be removed. There was NO attempt made to contact me before surgically removing those eight teeth. I was shocked when I picked up my dog! I look in my dog's mouth twice daily to give her liquid medication and to spray her teeth. I asked the tech who brought my dog out several questions. She went back to "ask the doctor" each time I asked one. The vet should have come out and talked to me. My dog was in pain. She cried for twenty minutes on the ride home. MY DOG WAS NOT GIVEN ANYTHING FOR PAIN! The vet wrote, "Owner called after got home from dental, pet whining and owner worried pet is in pain. Informed owner that pet had nsaid and opioid injections prior to leaving hospital and seemed comfortable in hospital but could be anxious and/or having post-anesthesia side effects. Can pick up some additional pain meds/anti-anxiety meds if would like to have on hand overnight." To quote Stuart Clark-Price, DVM, MS, SACVIM-LA, DACVAA, CVA regarding dental surgery: "Today, veterinarians are very aware of post-surgical pain and it's standard practice to prescribe medication to help relieve pain." I WILL NEVER TAKE MY DOG TO THIS VET AT OCEANSIDE ANIMAL CLINIC AGAIN! I believe there are good vets at this clinic, but definitely not the one treating my dog. If you have a good vet there, request that vet for your pet's sake. read more

This place is great. We have had routine vet work done here multiple times. This visit was to get a rabies shot. We had an appointment, but being a Monday, there were emergencies to deal with before us. It was not that long a wait considering and our cat had her exam and shot and we were out in under an hour. read more

Very distressing experience. Brought my two cats in for vaccinations and mentioned we were traveling. They very nicely offered to fill out a health certificate. I understood that to be just the proof of vaccines. Nope. In addition to the vaccines, they charged me $110 for the health certificates. I expressed that I did not want or need the certificates, especially at that price. The receptionist said they would charge me for one, whether I took it with me or not. I paid $55 against my will and left with nothing. The total bill was over $300 to have two cats vaccinated. I am so upset. They should be ashamed to take advantage of their clients in this way. It's a deceptive business practice and does not foster good will. read more

The 3 female doctors here are wonderful, friendly and seem to know what they are doing. This place is also more affordable then a couple of other vets on the OR side and I trust them completely with my pets. My only negative about the place is the receptionists who answer the phones. They are unprofessional, sassy in a bad way and can be down right RUDE at times. They act like they are doing you a favor by answering the call. They are also condescending and make you feel unimportant. If they worked for me I would have fired them long ago. With job openings at a all time high, I hope the vets wake up and replace some of their staff with better kinder people. read more

I have worked with more Veterinarians than I can count over my career and Dr. Ben's surgical skills as well as his bedside manner are some of the best ever. My dog Sera needed sensitive anal gland surgery and she was shaking uncontrollably until she met Dr. Ben. The surgery went great, and it is not an easy one, especially when removing a fast growing cancerous tumor. She is doing super well and actually enjoys her check ups with him! We have taken two cats here, and both times we have been pleased. First was for a little kitty that could not stop throwing up. We were worried about leaving her in someone else's care while we went away for the weekend, but Oceanside was more than happy to board her. This helped us so much! The second time we took our boy cat in because he couldn't use the litter box. Turns out he had elevated kidney levels. They had to give him a kitty enema and kitty dialysis. The reason I don't give this vet a 5-star is because when they gave him the kitty enema, they didn't groom him before giving him back to us. We had to take him to a groomer in Astoria a couple days later because he was tearing out his hair and smelled to high heaven. I would have liked Oceanside to have included grooming in our $700 bill. All in all though, we owe them a lot for our two little family members, and the staff here is pretty amazing. Would definitely go back! read more

I couldent be happier. I've been taking my furbabies here for the last few years since I moved from Vancouver. While the front of the house is almost always busy, all of the staff I have encountered under old and the new management have been amazing. An added bonus, they never try to sell me products I don't need. Oceanside has helped me transition two of my almost 20yr old cats onto there next journey. For my third cat they were able to make room for an emergecy visit and did everything they could to save him. It turned out he had an undiagnosed heart condition. On a happier note, my pup who is healthy and happy is seen monthly for alergy shots and nail trims. My new cat had his first wellness check and first shots here with no issues. They are always great about letting me know what to expect and what to keep an eye out for. Another thing I have noticed is the monthly cost for maintenance meds have gone down. read more

Our dog was struck by a car while there on vacation. They come right away for emergency and the vet was very kind and took good care of our dog. When we got home 3 days later and called to get an appointment for follow up with our vet at Banfield we were told it would be 10 days for appointment. Our dog was in extreme pain and Oceanside was kind enough to overnight pain meds until we could line up a new vet in our area. We sure wish all vets could be so kind and caring. Dr. Kelly did surgery on my 9 year old boxer with a heart murmur who had a mast cell tumor and 4 other lumps. Omg!!! She is so amazing. I'm so happy and will gladly drive the 2 hours to the beach to have any surgery done by them. I HIGHLY recommend this place. She was so good with my little girl and me. I was a wreck! I was bathing my dog on Wednesday and noticed some gunk on her face that had me concerned it could have been some sort of infection. I called that day and they were able to get me in quickly for an appointment. Very friendly over the phone. Went in on Friday morning and there was no wait after checking in and filling out the info. The vet was extremely sweet and gentle with my elderly dog. She answered all of my questions and gave me advice on getting my dog down a few pounds. Oh and the gunk on her face? It was just dirt! Going up to pay for the visit I was a little embarrassed and worried that this would have been an expensive visit with making an appointment... absolutely not the case whatsoever! I was shocked with how little my payment was! I will definitely be recommending this clinic and return if I ever have any more issues or concerns with my four legged best friend. I would NEVER take my dog to this clinic. If you plan on boarding your dog there...beware. If you think your pet is getting extra care because there is a Veterinarian there during boarding, think again. I'm not just a pet owner but a professional dog handler and I really do know what I'm talking about. The results of two different family members who went to this clinic is horrific. Two out of two, that is pretty shabby odds. Maybe this clinic counts of people blindly trusting them because we should all trust our beloved pets to a Veterinary Clinics superior knowledge and expertise. This Clinic in the only one on the Long Beach Peninsula so people don't think they have a choice. I had heard other minor complaints about this clinic but I figured that you can't please everyone. I would give ten stars if I could. My baby kitten was mauled by our dog in 2006, and her upper palate was ripped out of her mouth, her jaw was broken, and she almost lost her eye. The vet saved her, three days of hospital, a wire in her jaw, and the entire bill was only 1200, which we were able to put on Care Credit. We believe absolutely in getting our animals at the shelter, and we have had six cats over the years, two of which are now 8 years old and doing very well. One of them is CC, my poor baby kitten. Going strong, she is still afraid of dogs and is not the brightest cat in the cat universe, probably due to the mauling, but this excellent vet saved her and for that we will always be grateful. read more
