This is the only way to make a reservation; then you have to submit it and wait to see if its accepted. It also lets you see the estimated costs, which for us were very accurate. Tessa did a great and extremely thorough "intake" check in - discussing, habits, feedings, snacks, toys, etc. Once you've done this, I anticipate the next visit is much quicker. They let us drop off our own homemade refrigerated food as well. You can take their favorite bedding and blankys too. The employees here all seemed enthusiastic and genuinely cared for the pets. There is obviously ALOT of repeat business here too which speaks volumes about the quality of this operation. They also have a cute shop inside with lots of pet accessories and specialty foods. About 3 minutes into Roy's first exam, Dr. Bartel was sitting on the floor with him, conducting a kind and thorough exam. Roy was about 4 years old when we rescued him and had been to 2 other veterinarians before moving to the coast. Dr. Bartel found a heart murmur that both of the other clinics failed to do...a heart murmur! We were immediately sold on this clinic and received nothing but the same quality care up until Roy passed. As we prepare to rescue another pup, I pray Dr. Lisa Bartel is accepting new patients!!!

As he grew, his reactivity…read moregrew.  I thought I could handle it, but I was wrong.  Finally, after a dreadful visit to the vet I, for the first time in my long life, I looked for a dog trainer.  I wanted someone who was not using aggression, hard control methods like shock collars, etc.  It is a very small pool of trainers that fit that bill. My two regrets are that 1 - I waited so long to find Julia, and 2 - that I did not start with her board and train.   Julia was great with once-a-week training, but I wasn't. Every time my dog went crazy I stopped. I gave up. So, I finally accepted that boarding him with Julia was my only hope. I am very tight with money because I don't have extra, but this was my only hope. When he came home after 2 weeks with Julia, my beautiful dog actually let me put his harness on. I mean he was calm and happy getting his harness on.  He got into the car with no fuss.  Wow!  He came home with his nails trimmed!  The vet wouldn't do his nails until he was totally sedated.  I mean not gabapentin but, Totally  Sedated.    Now, I take him for walks every day, happily!!!! Real walks. We are hoping with Julia's help to expand our horizons even more.  There is not a chance that I could possibly recommend Guiding Tails more Highly. Wish I'd found them sooner.

Unfortunately a lot of trainers use aversives, especially with large strong dogs. We were so excited to find Julia, and after our meet & greet we were confident she was a good choice. Julia did a 2 week board & train with our dog while we were traveling, mainly focusing on leash skills and practicing calm behavior around exciting things. We noticed an immediate improvement, but have also been continuing to work on the training at home after our follow up. I'm happy to report that we are continuing to see improvement using Julia's methods.

My boyfriend and were glad to find a kennel that could take her as we had and emergency to go take care of. When we dropped rose of at Devonshire the staff was helpful and seemed to care. This made us feel comfortable boarding Rose there. However, when we picked her up, we knew we made a big mistake. We asked how Rose did and the only thing we were told when we came in the door was, she did great. First rose was terrified of the guy that brought her out to us and rose isn't afraid of anyone. The dog hates getting in the car, but she flew out of my arms into the car she was shaking so bad. We have left her with other people before and she did not act like this when we picked her up. Second, they just threw her in a cage and didn't pay any attention to rose. We sent blankets, toys and her bone with her but when we picked Rose up, they didn't even know which blankets were hers and when they finally found her stuff it was packed just like we left it. Third Rose lost weight she looked sick and frail. She was starving she dove into her food and ate faster than I have ever seen her eat. She was also extremely thirsty. Rose couldn't stop drinking water. Finally, she had diarrhea for a week, and I mean very runny diarrhea. We only left her there for 3 nights. Rose shouldn't have been in such bad shape. We feel like she would have died if we left her for a week or more. We will never and I mean never use Devonshire pet lodge again. Rose did not do great instead she was neglected big time.

They told us she was one of the sweetest dog they have met. When we bent down to love on her, we saw our 2 year old little dog was shaking so bad that she ended up peeing on the ground. The person that was handing us our dog smacked her on the nose and yelled at her. My husband told her never hit my dog again! All the way home, she cowered in the back of our car, shaking and whimpering the whole drive home. Since being home, she will not come out of her bed, nor snuggle us, not even to eat nor drink anything. This is not my purebred Siberian Huskey dog. She usually is ecstatic to great our kids and to get on our property to go say hello to all the chickens, rabbits and ducks. I will never take my precious girl there again.
