I stayed at Cottage Pirouette B&B for 13 nights in June 2015. Overall it was average, but I got a…read morecheap rate. If I had to pay full price, I would have rated this place lower than 3 stars.
The B&B has 6 bedrooms. I spent my first week in the bedroom on the 1st floor near the front door. It wasn't too bad, but the King bed is really just two twins pushed together, so it's quite uncomfortable. This bedroom has it's own bathroom, which is nice, but the shower didn't work properly and you had both a shower and a bath at the same time, every time.
The 2nd week I was put in two different bedrooms on the 2nd floor of the main house. It wasn't until I slept upstairs that I realized how incredibly loud and not private the downstairs room was!
One of the 2nd floor rooms I had shared a bathroom, while the other had it's own bathroom. I actually liked the shared bathroom better as it was a decent size and the shower worked properly - plus you could stand up completely in the shower, something you were not able to do in the 2nd floor private bathroom!
The 2nd floor rooms both had a couch - which was so much more comfortable than my 1st floor room which had only a wooden chair as an additional place to sit other than the bed. AND none of the common areas had couches, only wooden chairs. "Comfort" is not a word in their vocabulary!!
The B&B had free WiFi, but it failed to work a couple times while I was there. Although when it was working it was fine.
Breakfast is served at 8:30am, which meant that if you're not on a lazy vacation (which I wasn't) you were never around for breakfast. I stayed 13 nights and had the breakfast only 2 times while I was there. And while I could take coffee to go, there was never any food to go for breakfast, so i always ended up having to buy my own.
Parking is (sort of) plentiful as not all guests had their own vehicles, and the driveway had two entrances. The backyard was nice, with lots of flowers and gardens, but because the owner was doing work back there, no one seemed to take advantage of that outdoor space. The front yard is nice too - but unfortunately there was no seating.
The B&B is only a 5 minute walk to the shore and several parks, and a short drive to many other parks. There were several restaurants within driving distance, but in general the location is strictly residential, so there wasn't a lot within walking distance. It's about a 15 minute drive from downtown, longer by bus and obviously even longer by foot.
Note that none of the rooms have a TV, and there are no TVs available in any of the common rooms. There is a small fridge the guests can use, but it's actually a wine fridge with the temperatures set wrong, so different shelves are different temperatures and the bottom shelf wasn't even cold. Food was not allowed in the rooms, which I thought was a rather silly rule considering guests were not pre-schoolers. Their website and guest book claim they have a hot tub, which no longer exists, but there is apparently a recreation centre not too far away.
Overall, for the price I paid, it did it's job, but I would not stay there again. And I would definitely not recommend staying there at full price, especially in the main floor room. It does the job of a B&B you need only for sleep, but isn't a place you'd want to hang out at for longer than that.
