The staff is friendly when you encounter them, and unintrusive the rest of the time. The toilets are outhouses, but have been built and decorated in such a way that you'd never know it was just a hole in the ground. And the outdoor shower was great, albeit cold (but exactly what that day needed). The trail that runs through the campground leads to a great park, which in turn leads to Ganges, and is a nice, quiet stroll. I would recommend this place to anyone staying on SSI, and not wanting to shell out for a B&B.

Be sure to bring everything that you need with you, as the nearest town is Duncan which is about a 18 minute drive. There are some areas nearby to pick up supplies but overall it's pretty hit or miss if you're shopping down the road. (We were alright with that though.)

The sign says that someone will come by & register you if you don't make a reservation online. Guy walked by, said morning, kept walking. Was that the guy I was supposed to pay? Did they jot down my plate number? Should I expect a bill in the mail when I get back to Iowa? At the end of the day, it was a beautiful area with no real amenities to speak of at very low prices. I'd probably seek something elsewhere next time, but it was a good first night in Canada.

The treewalk is beautiful and the alternative return route feels like a gentle, quiet hike through nature. For those two lines, one is for the glass box at the top floor (purely a photo opp spot as you'd get better views outside of the box) and the second is for the slide down (FUN, terrifying to me, but a must). There was a food area including one airstream trailer that served floats and soft serve/ice cream (I forget what exactly) which was pretty fun and tasty. There's another airstream trailer at the entrance by the gift shop that sold coffee and other desserts (I think). Parking was easy. The drive to get here could be part of the adventure. I felt like the cost was worthwhile!

The WiFi worked very well, in fact, much better than any wilderness resort I've been in before. They've got an outdoor hot tub as well, but we didn't try it since it was February and the evening temp dipped down to about 1 C. However, we did go canoeing on the lake, and it was fantastic - the highlight of our stay on Saltspring. Off the main highway, you actually have to drive for several kms to get here. But it's still only about a 10 minute drive to Ganges. Just one small item to take note of: The floor felt quite cool, and it took the wall heaters quite a while to warm things up. So next time we will probably bring our own small portable heater.

You can walk here from the ferry or the cruise port. It's in a quiet area and it's very beautiful- loved the views. The small dining room overlooks the water and the food and service were worthy of the description "fine dining". The food was creative and presentation unique. The restaurant is only open Wednesday through Sunday so that is a reason to plan your visit on this days. We were visiting with 2 friends and had cabin 2-3, one the mirror image of the other next door. The cabins are rustic. Isn't that the reason you came. The hot tub worked great. We only did minimal cooking but the facilities were adequate. The view was perfect. the big bed was very comfortable and the well worn recliner chairs were so comfortable you could sleep in them. You visit will not be complete until you walk the incredible trails around the property.

There is a small kitchen that had everything we needed and a cozy livingroom with a beautiful view of the Strait of Juan de Fuca. There are Adirondack chairs on the deck and a 4 person hot tub that we enjoyed every day. The picture on the website of this cabin shows different furniture and a pretty fireplace with a mantel. Unfortunately they have a couple worn leather chairs with cracked leather arms and the couch is a hide-a-bed with cushions that were hard to keep in place. They kept working their way out and over the edge of the couch. What I was sad about was they have had to change the fireplace to bring it up to code. Instead of keeping the rustic feel with stone and a pretty mantle, they put up a couple bit shiny pieces of metal and screwed it in. They didn't use long enough screws and it is pulling away from the fireboard behind. It looks like a cheap fix and doesn't fit with the rustic cabin feel. We did enjoy having a fire, however, and they replenished our wood supply, including kindling and paper every day. We were there for a birthday and would have loved to eat at the restaurant there but the menu didn't appeal to us enough to pay the high price of a meal. We loved walking private guest only paths on the property that lead to a beach with a shelter with fireplace and chairs. Another leads over a pretty red bridge that leads to rocks overlooking the wild surf. We were there early May and loved enjoying the flora waking up in the spring. There are a few references to the staff being rude so we decided to tread lightly. Nobody was rude but there was definitely one woman who was curt. The staff in general lacked warmth and were not overly welcoming. But we didn't have any issues that needed addressing. All in all we enjoyed our stay and would go back.

I've taken this ferry from Victoria to Vancouver a handful of times over the years. This was the…read morefirst time I had reservations. Because of an accident, I had to change my reservation to a day earlier. We needed to get off the island ASAP and get back to the states in case my wife needed to see a doctor or be hospitalized. Customer service was good to work with. They listened to my story and helped me change my reservation a couple of times. No waiving of fees, not that I was hoping for fee waiver. They did their job and was able to make reservations on the ferry that my wife wanted. Car boarding instructions was a little unclear. I wanted to keep my wife in the car as we made our crossing. I was told that we were supposed to go up to the seating area. Later on I found out that she could've stayed in the car. It was a nice ferry ride from Victoria to Vancouver. It was very smooth compared to the Port Angeles to Victoria ferry ride where it was a little rough. Also, the BC Ferry to/from Victoria and Vancouver is scheduled for almost every hour. BC Ferries is like a well oiled machine. I most likely will take it again to make up for what our medical emergency made us miss.

The Swartz Bay terminal is really well organized and labeled. I have used both the vehicle side and…read morethe walk-in side many many times. For walk-on, the waiting area is very close to the entrance to the terminal and so you can arrive quite late and still make it on to the ferry. There is a free luggage check-in service from Swartz Bay to Tsawassen that I use all the time. Just weigh the bag, attach a heavy tag if necessary and slide it down the baggage slide! I love it as I don't have to carry luggage onto the ferry. Luggage arriving from Vancouver get put on the carousel outside - it can sometimes take awhile to arrive. From the vehicle side, it's very easy to get on with a ferry reservation. If arriving early enough, there is very little lines to get in and service is very fast. There is a small cafe once in the waiting area to use the washroom and grab snacks. The terminal staff are all very nice and informative. Everything is well labeled so visitors won't get lost. It is also pretty clean considering how many people travel through each day. On holidays and weekends, it can be crowded. There are two bus lines that go to downtown which are very slow and get crowded quickly. Sometimes it won't even be able to fit everyone and people have to wait at least an hour for the next one. There are taxis that typically wait outside the terminal, but there are usually very few so be sure to get outside quickly.
