I've been taking my pets here for roughly 15 years. The service is always beyond amazing. I know that my fur babies will be treated with kindness and as if they were a member of the vet staff family! If vets make your big dog hostile this review is for you. My dog is 60 lbs and is aggressive when it comes to the vet. Lots of past vet trauma for him. Will not easily let anyone touch him with foreign objects so even listening to him heartbeat is a challenge. Give him a shot and he'll try to bite. Dr Nicks and The Team were very patient with him and were very gentle in their approach, helping to rehab my pups fear of vets. I wasn't expecting to need a vet for awhile but when my Australian Shepherd, Juno, got really sick and started having puss on her paws and a red and irritated mouth I had to bring her somewhere. The staff were so amazing and friendly. They were also so kind to me, knowing that I was looking for care but without much money to spend. Amazing vet, wonderful staff. My dog has a bad heart murmur and we went here based on recommendation and are super happy. Not only has the staff and doctors been amazing and friendly as well as helpful, but they make everything easy. They have a mobile app, text check in, and are always available (via the app or phone). This was the best Veterinary clinic I have ever been to. I have recently just moved to California and still looking for an experience like I had here. Elsa, the front office lady, always remembered my kitties and I just after my first visit to their office. It was always refreshing to speak to her on the phone, regardless of if it was scheduling or I had a concern, and getting an appointment was never difficult. They are also one of the only offices in Jacksonville that provides cat declaw with the laser and the doctors are incredible. Dr. Kane treated both of my cats for over two years. She would call me a few days after their visits to check in on them and make sure they were okay after a shot or procedure. She also never forced anything on me, she understood that I was just a student and couldn't afford unnecessary expenses. Moreover, she understands the animal. One of my cats cannot handle having her temperature taken or anything else via anal, Dr. Kane took note and instead of putting her through trauma everytime she would just give her the deworm pill or go a different route. I truly miss this office and the sweet voices on the other end of the line when I call. You cannot go wrong here. read more

10/10 for both vet and boarding/day care services. We just moved to the area so we needed a new vet and boarding place, Prince is very high energy and is a ball of crazy so I'm always nervous to go to new places. What made it more nerves wrecking is with covid, you can't go in with your pet...luckily it seemed like he did better this way, but I was a nervous wreck the whole time bc I know how he can be with vet visits...They took great care of him not only during his vet visit but also during boarding. I got a photo update during his stay, as well as they have an app where you can chat them if you have any concerns, or in my case needed to board him 1 extra night last minute. Very accommodating and Prince seemed to enjoy himself! We will definitely be back :) any dog staying 3 or more nights require a bath & nail trimming before going home (at your expense.) He needed a bath though so I didn't mind. He ran out of food on the last day so they didn't feed him breakfast (I thought they'd just give him food they have there vs. not feeding him at all, I did find that odd.) overall, definitely recommend. read more

Just got finished at our appointment. Being a transient and always on the road, finding a good vet can be challenging. However, when i found that my little guy was having skin issues, I searched and found Oceanview. When we got there, we had a warm greeting by Elsa. In fact, everyone who works there is really friendly and sweet. The doctor explained what's going on with my little guy and I left with antibiotics and shampoo. I would not trust this place with my pets!! They were very rough with my little dog and showed no compassion for her. Very disappointed in this clinic! I have tried to give this place so many chances as it has great reviews and some very friendly staff. But some staff is incredibly rude and doesn't seem at all concerned about my pet. Ive spent hundreds of dollars for my dog to be examined multiple times for a simple rash and when my dog isn't any better they have no concern about trying to get her in to be looked at or for her wellbeing. We still can't go in the offices with our pets because of COVID so they sacrifice the quality of the care to do so? Dr. Johnson at Oceanview saved my ( Lab Mix- Leah) bay's life. Leah had a huge mass on her spleen. I had brought her in because she was fine one day, lethargic, then next, then fine. The mass on her spleen was causing her to be anemic. Found the mass on Wednesday, operated on Friday and I had my spunky dog back ! She is 12 and has lots of good years left in her. After not being happy with the local vets around the northside I went into research mode to find one i think would give us better care and recommendations for our dogs. Came across OVH and gave it a try after needing 2nd and 3rd opinions on our dog's leg that he was having trouble with. Barely being able to lift himself off the floor and not being able to be active I knew something serious was wrong. The other vets around the northside kind of brushed it off saying it wasn't so serious or giving us meds and telling us to wait it out. I had a feeling it was his ACL that he tore after some research. Turns out when I took Reagan here they also confirmed it was his ACL and recommended we get it repaired at Affiliated Veterinary Specialists on the Southside. I would definitely come back here even if it's a drive for me as it's well worth the piece of mind. read more

All I can say is I second what Alexandra D. said! This is a wonderful operation, and Dr. Knapke is top notch. I started with them about 11 months ago with my oldest kitty. They have one of two different laser machines that are used for a variety of purposes. My kitty has severe arthritis, and the laser helps manage her aches and pains. Now Dr. K. is managing the deafness and subsequent issues brought on by the incompetence of another clinic. He's saved the life of my poor girl, and I cannot thank him enough for working as diligently as he has to help her tolerate this latest setback. We have had 2 of our cats going there since around 2010. We went there after researching . Dr Wayne Knapke was extremely knowledgeable and compassionate. Unfortunately that legacy died with him. We have continued going there and that stopped today. Here's why: About 8 months ago we took our 10-11( rescued from humane society so age is roughly this age ) year old baby boy in because he was drinking a lot of water and always seemed thirsty and started to become weak and didn't seem himself. We took him in to get seen and he was diagnosed with diabetes. We changed his diet and started him on insulin. It seemed to help and he became active again and things were great. Well we then noticed that he started to lose weight. He was still drinking water like crazy and he became hungry all the time. Now its Sunday January 14th and he stopped eating. We were always told that he needed to eat to have his insulin. So Monday morning comes and he still doesn't want to eat and he's very weak and limp. We called to see if we could get him in. We took him in and we found out that he had an infection plus his sugar was in the 500's, which seemed to be the answer anytime we asked about his sugar. We were told that he needed to be on an iv and needed antibiotics. We were told that he should be fine after that. I received a call letting me know his progress and was told that they were excited for us to see him because he was getting better but when my husband went to pick him up at 530 on Monday, he was worse than when we took him in. He still wasn't eating and wasn't drinking water. Instead he was so thirsty that he would just stick his head in the water. He was acting like he was drugged. We were just told that he was on fluids and antibiotics. Never did they say they used any drug and if there were any side effects we should look for. He was to return Tuesday January 15th for more fluids. I dropped him off again at 8am. I would call and check on him and was told that he was doing better and was moving his head around. Well at 2pm they call my husband and tell him that he has taken a turn for the worse but they wanted to keep him till 530 to push fluids. As his mother, I left work to come pick up my boy. The Dr. said that she wanted to keep him till 530 for more fluids. I asked her, would the 2 more hours of fluid really do anything for him? She said honestly, no. So they gave me some pain meds to make him comfortable for him to pass at home. Well last night was a rough night. He was moving a lot from discomfort and had some horrible cries. We gave him his last pain meds this morning, January 18th. We called the vet at 815, knowing they opened at 8. I figured 15 mins was enough time for them to be ready for calls. I was told that I needed to bare with them because they just opened. I asked to talk to the Dr and was told they don't come in till 9am. I said fine have her call me. Well its now 915am and no call. So I called a second time. I was told that the message was put on the white board for both dr's. It was for them to call us back in regards to our baby boy, which they never called to check on him. The clerk checked and said the color changed which means the Dr saw the note but instead of calling us, she saw a patient. The patient was a dog with a limp who needed xrays. This patient was going to still be alive if she had taken a small amount of time to call us about our baby. To us Its like saying our dying baby was not a high concern. I was told that the dr would call me back maybe during the xrays or after shes done with the patient. I was irate. I researched real quick and found another dr. We immediately called and they got him in at 945 am Thursday January 18th. We were told by the new clinic that he should have NEVER been off his insulin regardless of him eating or not. We feel that the new clinic is very caring to our loved ones. You can feel the calm caring environment. It's not always busy like an Aspen Dental because thats what Oceanview Veterinary Hospital became when Dr. Knapke passed away. We feel that the compassion is no longer there. Please make sure you get a second opinion before listening to what this hospital has to say. We may have lost our baby boy because of the lack of education this location has. We will no longer be coming to this location and we will be sharing our story with everyone. All these posts are positive, Hard to comprehend that. read more

Having suddenly lost Oceanview's founder, Dr. Knapke several years ago due to his untimely passing it was difficult to know where to turn to. Dr's. Johnson and Kane fortunately have been able to take his place. Both are doing a fine job in providing excellent veterinary care to my 'furkids' now. There is also a special person that needs to be mentioned and that is Oceanview's office manager Elsa.
