In gratitude to Dr. Anna Terrarosa who quickly diagnosed and offered a solution for an extreme dry eye condition from which no combination of prescription or over the counter eye drops provided the least amount of relief. Dr. Terrarosa presented a straightforward and easy to understand diagnosis, explanation and solution to this condition that I had endured for a period of several years. The solution involved a procedure that when described, even those who aren't squeamish would rather not think about; however, owing to her kind, reassuring and ever so positive "bed side manner" she instilled a strong sense of confidence and assurance that immediately put me at ease with a total understanding of what was involved. As Dr. Terrarosa performed the procedure she provided easy to understand explanations as well as what to expect. The procedure went well without causing the least bit of discomfort. Honestly, the amount of time I had to wait at the eye doctor today was genuinely absurd. Like, I'm not even exaggerating when I say I feel like I could have completed an entire semester of school in the amount of time I spent sitting there. I walked in thinking, "Alright, this shouldn't take too long," because how complicated can an eye appointment really be? Apparently, extremely complicated, because somehow I ended up waiting for what felt like approximately 47 years. I got there, checked in, sat down, and figured they'd call me back pretty soon. Nope. I sat there. And sat there. And continued sitting there. At a certain point, I started questioning whether I was actually at an eye doctor or if I had accidentally signed up to become a permanent resident of the waiting room. I watched people come in after me, check in after me, sit down after me, and somehow get called back before me. I genuinely started wondering if there was some sort of secret VIP line that I had not been informed about. The worst part is that every time someone opened the door, I thought, "Finally, this is it." And then they would call someone else. Every. Single. Time. Eventually, I stopped even looking up because I had completely lost hope. I could have brought a sleeping bag, a pillow, a Nintendo Switch, three meals, and a change of clothes, and I still probably would have had plenty of time to spare. At one point, I genuinely forgot why I was there. I started staring at the walls, reading every single sign in the office, looking at the eye charts, examining the fish tank--basically anything I could possibly do to entertain myself. I became more familiar with that waiting room than I am with my own house. If someone asked me where the bathroom was, what magazines they had, or what color the receptionist's chair was, I could have given them a full tour. And then, just when I thought surely I had been forgotten completely, they finally called me back. But even THAT wasn't the end of it. I thought getting called back meant the appointment was finally going to happen. Instead, I got brought into another room and proceeded to wait AGAIN. So apparently there was a waiting room inside the waiting room. It was like an eye-doctor-themed escape room where the objective was simply to see how long I could remain patient before losing my mind. By the time the actual doctor came in, I had aged approximately six years. I was no longer the same person who walked through those doors. I had experienced things. I had seen things. I had waited. And honestly, after all that time, I expected them to at least congratulate me for surviving the experience. The whole appointment probably took about 20 minutes once everything actually started, which somehow made the waiting even more ridiculous. I spent what felt like an entire geological era waiting for something that was over practically as soon as it began. I genuinely think I spent more time staring at the waiting room wall than I spent talking to the actual eye doctor. So yeah, overall, fantastic experience. Nothing says "we value your time" quite like making someone sit around long enough to reconsider every decision that led them to make the appointment in the first place. Next time I go to the eye doctor, I'm bringing snacks, a charger, a blanket, homework, and possibly a tent, because apparently I need to prepare for an overnight stay. read more

Besides the fact that I waited I 1/2 hours to see Dr. Norty, I thought that the visit went well. That was until I realized that I had 1 more question for the doctor. I called her 5 (THAT'S RIGHT, 5) times over a 3-4 week period without a call back!! I HAD ONLY 1 QUESTION to ask. It was a yes or no answer. I'm only giving 1 star because there's no minus 1! Although I was very happy with my doctor and the quality of my eye care at OCLI Oceanside I will be looking for another practice due to the overbooking of appointments and the behavior of the front desk. It is not uncommon to book the first appointment of the morning only to arrive to a full parking lot, waiting room, and an hour wait beyond my appointment time because they are already running behind by 8:00 am! The front desk is not only unpleasant but rude and completely unapologetic. You're expected to sign in at a kiosk which is not user friendly particularly for someone with poor vision or the elderly patient. Your co pay if any is collected at the kiosk and now you sit and wait wait wait! At my last scheduled appointment I approached the front desk 45 minutes after my scheduled time and was told to go sit down that they had my chart in the back office. After another 15 minutes I approached the desk to ask how much longer and the girl at the desk told me that she didn't know how much longer so I asked her how many patients they overbooked for the same appointment that by 8:30 in the morning they were already so behind and told her I felt that it's very inconsiderate of my time at which point she very loudly told me I'm rude! I told her I was leaving and asked that my co-pay be refunded which she didn't want to do so another girl did my refund. While refunding me I said that although I liked my doctor I would not be returning to the practice because of the poor scheduling and my front desk experience that day so she asked if I wanted to leave a message for my doctor but when I said yes she told me she'd need to ask her manager if she could take the message. I thanked her but knew the message would never get to the doctor. I've had other poor experiences with the practice from trying to get through on the phone to never getting a return call regarding prescriptions and questions. It's truly unfortunate that they've become a machine and have no respect for their patient's time or concerns. Probably the most unpleasant office I've ever been to! read more

I had a very disappointing experience at this ophalmologyst office would not recommend it. From the moment I walked in, the office felt disorganized and unwelcome. The staff in the back seem disorganized. I had a schedule appointment, yet still waited almost 2 hours to be seen without any explanation or updates, the only thing I was told you're next. When I was finally seen the staff appeared rushed, and I felt like my concerns were not taken seriously, they were even acting like school kids talking to themselves and laughing at my experience. I felt so angry and annoyed. I will not recommend this location, they really should look into teaching their staff some manners and how to treat the customer. Usually I go to Massapequa for my eye care. Had singles in my eye from a reoccurring shot I had in 2013. I content get into the massapequa office., they had a spot available at Oceanside. So we went to Oceanside. I filled out all my info in a computer, then went to the front desk, and had to fill out three more papers, The girls behind the desk are rude, I heard one of the girl call a customer (they you come hear). It feel like socialized medicine is here. Management should step up. They called me into a room, a young girl asked why I was hear, I gave her my symptoms. Them went into a waiting room, then they called me into another room, and asked me why I was there. Told the doctor I have double vision, pain in my eye and my eye is brighter red, explained, these are systems from a shot that I had ten years ago. He dismissed me and told me my eye lid is infected. Save yourself a lot of time and look for another eye care place. read more

OCLI is run like a factory. I have no complaint with the medical staff, but the administrative side is horrendous. Although Dr McDonald is very capable, I was led to believe my eye surgery for a cyst was not big deal. It was a much bigger deal than I expected and was promised a pain free experience. I was awake throughout the procedure after being promised otherwise, I felt everything, while 3 anesteologist hung out with each other while I am yelling at them to please increase the IV meds, because I am wide awake and feel everything. I was still awake for the rest of the procedure. I will be in touch with my insurance about them getting paid. Is this malpractice? read more

Beware ask about everything they are doing during your eye exam visit . They are in my plan went had through eye testing paid my $40 co pay then when leaving paid additional fee of $50 for the prescription didn't know about they now almost a year later trying to bill me for some optic test !! Why would I think I had any more additional fees for service when they were in my plan I knew I had a $40 co-pay didn't know about that $50 what they call refraction charge paid that just so I can get the prescription or you can't get it and had a bunch of tests thought that was it was supposed to be included. As far as I knew that's what my Insurance told me go there. They are in the plan so just beware be wise if you're getting stuff done that you're not familiar with I would ask hey is this covered? What am I out-of-pocket expenses because you will be there a while they'll put you in different rooms different people will do different things to you and it's very confusing. Just thought it was part of the exam. Haven't bought eyeglasses in 25 years so this was crazy. Go to Costco get eye testing get glasses and go I will never ever go to this place !! read more

A really awful experience. I got herded around from place to place and into a stuffed little waiting area. I am handicapped and the staff totally forgot about me and they are pretty much a bunch of sourpusses. When I finally brought it to their attention, I finally saw the doctor. I handed him some questions. He answered a few and ran out of the room. So I could not get the answers I needed. And they do not practice safe enough protocols to prevent someone like me who has an immune system illness from getting sick. I will never go back to that ocli office. read more

I have been going to my dr at OCLI for years and although I love him I can no longer continue with him if he is only working through this office! The reception area is beyond awful. Sarcastic, un friendly and extremely incompetent on proper patient service. I would prefer to use The kiosks than deal with these workers however it seems the kiosks are often down. I tried calling to change my appointment and ask important questions and was placed on hold for 20 mins and finally pressed the call back key. My call was placed at 10 am and my call back was 5 pm!! I had been seeing a retinologist for the past 19 yrs, so I am used to the procedure and being shifted to different waiting rooms for different tests while eyes are dilating. He also functioned as my ophthalmologist. Since I have moved, I have been searching for a good retinologist/ophthalmologist in my area. 1st I went to Vitreoretinal Consultants, had 3 visits in 3 1/2 mos, each time the MD was extremely rushed and gave short, terse answers to my questions. I could not understand why they kept wanting to see me every 4-6 wks when they said my eyes were stable, no changes. I self-referred myself to OCLI after a friend recommended them. The waiting room was worse than VRC, though staff was professional. After my eyes were briefly examined by a tech, and after all the routine tests, I saw Dr McKeague. She is just the MD I had been searching for! She asked me questions, was gentle but efficient and thorough with the exam, sat down with me to explain what she saw, answered my questions and gave me suggestions on how to take better care of my eyes--which eye drops to use, and an eye compress that I could get on-line at their store. And, unless something changes, I do not need to see her for a year! And I do not need to see a separate retinologist, unless she sees something that needs to be addressed. The Doctor I saw in Oceanside was wonderful but the day I was there the system was down so I couldn't make a follow up appointment or get my medication prescription. My appointment was on Dec. 6. I have tried calling multiple times since then to make a follow up appointment and to get my medication. The phone system doesn't let you leave a message and just keeps you on hold forever. If you choose the option to be called back when someone is available you never get a call back. I left a message to get my medication with all the info they asked for and no one ever called me back. I actually drove to the office on Dec. 26 (the website said they were open) When I got there the doors were locked. This is unacceptable. read more

There are zero parking spots and every single seat in the waiting room (over 30 seats) is taken at 10:30 am. I was advised that they are running 45-60 minutes behind already. I went this location to drive one hour to see to a doctor supposed to be very good experienced however it came out very disappointed and unprofessional. First technician taking pictures of eye was unprofessional and she was making rude comments after I asked can a have a wipes and I would wipe the machine myself!..she even apologized other patient because I was trying to take few seconds to wipe myself to machine where my face touches the machine. Unacceptable and rude and unprofessional. Second Dr. Boozan was supposed to be a good doctor after I read his background and I decided to see him. However it was disappointing experience. He didn't care much and feel I am the number for him not the patient this is the worst feeling you can have a doctor. He didn't look my history or listen me carefully he just went to point before making comprehensive research about my condition he just said they can do cataract surgery? I do have just minor cataract and I don't need surgery just need right prescription to correct the issue so I have no positive feeling for him. I don't recommend him. Waste of time and money. Also I make this appointment for eye exam and contact lens evaluation and they told me on the phone they do the both however this was the lie. I filled my paperwork in the office and write purpose of visit was contact lenses and eye glasses evaluation but nobody told me before I see the doctor they don't do the contact lenses evaluation. Best care I ever had. Dr Sturm is wonderful as is his staff. I definitely recommend this practice.

My wife and I have been going to OCLI for the past 15 years. We started in the East Meadow office, which has since closed. Dr. Richard Sturm has been treating us since the beginning of our association with OCLI. Dr. Sturm is a professional gentleman who will patiently answer your questions and give you an honest diagnosis. He is the positive portion of this review. The negative is that while OCLI has grown in the number of offices and providers over the years, the quality of service has deteriorated. My wife tried calling twice for our annual appointments, only to be put on hold for an entire 20 minutes without ever being able to speak with a person . In an attempt to secure an appointment on the website, a message states that no appointments are available at this location and that we should call!!?? What happens if I need to speak with my doctor. How long will that take. If you ever do get to make an appointment, you will be thrust into a medical mill. The offices are overcrowded and understaffed, so the associates are over worked. After several frustrating waits on the phone in the vain hope that someone would actually pick up, we have given up on OCLI and are going to a small independent Ophthalmologist in our neighborhood. I hope that someone from OCLI reads these and will act on it, but I doubt it. read more
