So that was disappointing that I couldn't go in and explore. we could walk around the grounds and explore the barns and areas of the farm. There are some fantastic views. The main house is gorgeous. The barns are cool. I liked seeing the dairy barn. The land is one of my dreams. The walk back to the hotel was just as nice under the shade of trees following the river.

The house is preserved to it's original state as much as they could (they've added electric lighting, etc) and there's lots of art and personal items to check out. There is a lovely gift shop that I'll keep in mind if I'm ever in the area and need a little present or hostess gift :)

You could certainly go in, run around, look at the castle in 15 mins, but we wanted to understand the art, the reason behind the build and just learn a few things. Santa was there for pictures and it's neat that you can rent a room IN the castle. We weren't able to view those rooms but, I believe there are pictures online. Maybe we will come back and stay! You can't see the castle upon arrival, they take you in a bus up the hill so, I liked that it didn't ruin the surprise. They had little Tiaras for purchase and they give you a small prize when you complete the word puzzle they hand you. And event here would be cool. It would also be great if they had more drink or snacks for purchase but imagine that's in the works!! This was a costly project so, it will only get better!

So this was the second year for CastleFaire and it was even better than last year. It's not a huge…read morefaire by any means but it's growing. And well, you can't beat having it in a castle! Their location causes some logistical issues you don't have at most faires as there is no parking field. Most people have to park offsite and catch a free shuttle to the bottom of the mountain, then they drive you up to the castle. For those of us in full costume, the shuttle buses do add a level of complication we aren't used to but is definitely worth it If you like the Renaissance faire type events you need to go check this event out.

Stunning. The Great…read moreSmoky Mountains National Park officially ties with Yosemite as my two favorite national parks in the US. I love everything about this beautiful area of our country. We were there in early spring and enjoyed stunning weather, blooming wild flowers, and bear sightings a-plenty. We also were there when the dogwoods were blooming and there are dogwood trees throughout the park--it was stunning. We enjoyed driving around the park, hiking, and stopping at various points of interest. We were also able to take an accessible hike up a paved trail to the highest point in the park, which was amazing. My eyes seriously just could not get enough of all the gorgeous nature to be enjoyed here. Top notch. Get to it!

The #1 most visited National Park in the USA!…read more We spent three days in Gatlinburg and visited the Kuwohi Observation tower and did the Cades Cove 11 mile drive. Both awesome! Definitely try to get to Kuwohi for sunset. Amazing panoramic views of the blue ridge mountains, and on a clear day you can see as far as four states away! Cades Cove is an early morning must. We beat the crowds by getting there at 6:30am and were done with the 11 mile drive by 9:30am, taking our time to check out most of the stops along the way. Just to note it is closed on Wednesdays to cars when they turn it over to bikes and pedestrians. We also did the Roaring fork motor nature trail which was also very nice and not as chaotic as Cades Cove.

I felt safe at all times with our raft guide Justin and we had a blast. There was a break where we could hop out and swim around in a calm side area of the river, perfect for these hot days. I was so pleased I couldn't help getting a shirt for myself and a hat for the hubby. I really like the retro vibe of some of their merchandise. Much fun had by all!

Can't believe we had to pay $500+ for family of 4 to advertise pink jeep tours on the main strip in…read morePigeon Forge and Gaitlinburg. Of the 3 hrs spent in a hot jeep, less than 1hr was actually in the national park. Lot of cruizin the tourist areas. In no way do you need hiking shoes. We only got out of vehicle 4 times for a couple minutes...we were forced to take a photo by state park sign, we quickly walked up to a cabin, we stood on asphalt in a parking lot... and looked at a cemetary. It was FAKE! He said it was a children's cemetary. We kept pulling over to let cars pass. Never actually getting out to look around. Psyche. Tour guide had no info or history. Pointed out a melted light post. Commented on things we passed. He kept pointing out random places he once saw a bear. Constant conversation about the other couples vacation or his back story or the guy making bank selling merch at the edge of the park. The actual worst part was how you have to sit in the jeep. Load in through the back woth backs tobthe side. You can't see anything on one side.fail. You can very easily drive through park on your own, pull over in spaces. Sorry. No photos because there was nothing to see. Don't WASTE 3hrs -save your money.

It's actually worth watching as the employees are featured in the video and the dramatization of situations are pretty funny. I'm pretty sure I said "oh wow" about 40 times and "that's so cool" at least 20 times. If you have any interest/appreciation of nature, the formations in the cave will not disappoint. It will impress you with regard to size, and the huge chandelier and story behind it was very cool. We enjoyed our tour. It was just our little 3 person family so it was like having a private tour. We knew nothing about this cave when we arrived, but we left with a lot of interesting facts. If you're looking for an interesting place to spend an afternoon, I would highly recommend this place!

Several tours are available depending on length of time and how in-depth you want to explore. We've taken two different cave tours and both met our expectations in terms of what was advertised. An added benefit was being able to escape the heat of the summer into the cool 58-degree interior of the cave!
