I loved everything about my OAC experience and highly recommend rafting with them. Booking online was easy breezy. Checkin on the day of was a piece of cake. I felt safe at all times with our raft guide Justin and we had a blast. There was a break where we could hop out and swim around in a calm side area of the river, perfect for these hot days. Back at the outpost after our adventure we opted to get all of our boats photos and I'm so glad we did, the quality is great and the experience worth remembering. My group and I came in the early morning Sunday and already this place was packed (not in a bad way). Paul was our guide and we honestly LOVED him so much! He cracked jokes left and right with no hesitation and kept the energy flowing. He was so thorough with explanations and gave us compliments that boosted our energy. During the lower grade water flow, he would have conversations with us and made us feel like we were not strangers or tourists. There were plenty of parking spaces that were 15 - 30 feet away that gets you straight to the front of the center so don't worry if you have to park in the "additional parking" zone, everything is conveniently close. There were detailed signs to navigate you towards different areas of the center, which was a small cozy size so you won't be lost anyways with lots of tree shade! All employees were so kind and nice with lots of energy to help you sponge up for the rafting session. Time was smoothly ran from the moment you check in, tutorial, bus ride, rafting, and journey back. The rapids that we experienced were ranged from 1-4. Our group had a BLAST!!! And we can't wait to book our next tour! You guys have to try out this place, most definitely worth our time. read more

There are over 20 different rafting companies on the Ocoee river, but I HIGHLY recommend using this one. They provided us with a helmet, life jacket and paddle. They then gave us an orientation before getting on a 10-15 min bus ride to the river. There, we split up into rafting groups of 6, each group having their own river guide. Our guide, Les, was funny, answered all of our questions, and seriously an EXPERT. I never felt unsafe (maybe a little scared) while on the river. He was so knowledgeable about the safe vs dangerous areas of the river and always gave us a heads up well before we were going to come across the class 4 (most dangerous) rapids. This... is the best place ever! We did the 5 mile leg of the Ocoee with OAC this morning and it was absolutely stellar. There are a lot of businesses doing white water rafting trips down the Ocoee, but Ocoee Adventure Center won me over. The staff are the friendliest people I've met and they absolutely love their jobs... and they're good at what they do. Our guide, Tanner, was absolutely hilarious and equally skilled with 7 seasons of experience under his belt. The views for the entire rafting trip are absolutely beautiful and the rapids are the most fun you can have on water. We did both the upper and middle part of the river. I was in a group of 8 - split into two boats of 4. (You can do up to 6 in a raft plus the guide). Our guide Laura was fantastic. She has been a raft guide for 25 years and was very knowledgeable and very encouraging and fun to talk to. The lunch was hamburgers, chips, dessert, and a drink - it was enough for me but not enough for the men in my group. Wish they could have gotten a 2nd burger. I recommend wearing a fleece shirt that will help with warmth but not make you too hot. All and all, I highly recommend!! read more

Had a blast doing a full-day trip with friends down the Ocoee with OAC. We had a group of four that was paired up with two others (six seemed to be the average max crew size) and started around 1030-11. Our day lasted until 4pm with a mix of big rapids, plus times where we could get out and float, plus a BBQ by the side of the river around 1pm that included burgers and chicken sandwiches. Our guide, Kevin, definitely made the trip even better with his expertise, knowledge and jokes. Safety was also on his mind, so while there were plenty of thrills that could have tossed us at any moment, we never felt unsure or worried for our safety. There were some interesting and much appreciated history stories that went along with our trip. Comparing our outing with other companies out on the Ocoee, OAC definitely seemed to stick out, as we never got caught on rocks or put into hairy situations. The store at OAC had plenty of gear and swag that you could pick in case you came ill-prepared. My only major complaint is that the pictures that the company took of us on the river, while done professionally, were too expensive to consider buying. $15 for one and $80 for the set is too just too much. My family and I did a half day trip yesterday and we had a great time! All the guides seemed very professional and we had a great trip leader. Their outpost was clean, they sell some snacks and offer free coffee. Our guide was "Tippy" or Thomas. He was very knowledgeable and experienced. He gave us some great history and other info about the Ocoee. We had a run in with another boat and our entire raft flipped. Which can happen but Tippy was quick to respond and get everyone back on the boat safely. While that out of boat experience was kinda scary it is comforting to know that the guides are well trained in rescuing. Overall, it was a great experience and I would recommend booking with this company. read more

When you go whitewater rafting - it's ALL about the guide! There are numerous outfits who can take you down the Ocoee, but if you want it to be a first class and memorable experience - it's OAC baby :) I've went down the Ocoee every year over the past 7 years (and some years more than once) and used a different company the first time - but have went with OAC every time since. I typically lead a group from work (multiple rafts) and have also taken my family a couple of times. It's simple, the guides are fantastic. Every time. The last three times I have had John G as my guide - a guy with 20+ years of experience. His approach and experience always provides a sense of security for the new comers - but also a fantastic day of excitement and fun for the more adventurous in the group at the same time. This time around our 2nd raft had Joe (also with similar years of experience) as the guide - and that group came back saying the exact same thing - an absolute blast on the river. First time to white water raft ever, and will definitely be going again in the future with Ocoee Adventure Center. We did the middle Ocoee 5 mile route. Donnie, our guide, knew that I was anxious about this new experience and was able to calm my fears. He provided a safe and enjoyable experience for me and my family. Donnie was very knowledgeable of the river and was able to choose the best routes on the river. I recommend listening and doing everything your guide tells you to do, and you will stay in the boat. They have hot showers and a nice little store that sells most things you need if your forget something. If you are a first timer or even a thousand timer, I recommend requesting Donnie. read more

It was our first time to visit this place last week, July 19, 2020, and experience their rafting activity. This was our WORST TRIP so far. We were FOUR ASIAN LADIES (intentionally in capital letters to get the facility's attention and let everybody be aware that RACISM COMES IN ALL FORMS). First of all, our tour guide was the kindest. As the only asian girls during that time we were purposely humiliated by the STAFF. All of us were wearing bandanas (which wasn't tight of course) to cover our faces and as far as I remembered there were no rules mentioning about face covers or bandanas. One of the tour guides which was a guy came up to us suggesting about taking off our bandanas because we might be having a hard to breathe, as adults we are not stupid enough to identify if a person is genuinely concern or just being a racist because of our skin color or because of our different feature. He was annoyed suggesting it to us and was trying to humiliate us but as adults again and could tell that other people were staring at us, we of course took it off. Second incident, it was already lunch time and we were waiting for our tour guide to give us instructions. While waiting for him another tour guide came up to us and told us to wait anywhere but not on that space that we were currently standing. Again, the way he delivered the message was completely RUDE. We were deeply humiliated and as educated adults we politely followed him. Lastly, we were excited to have some captured memories while rafting so they have their own photographers to take all your pictures while enjoying their rafting. As we were checking the pictures and was ready to purchase some photos we surprisingly saw our pictures and was VERY DISAPPOINTED. Our pictures were completely blurred and could tell they didn't put an ounce of an effort to it. Not even an inch. All of the pictures were professionally edited but ours were the worst. I am writing this review to let everybody know that the company should be alarmed about this kind of incidents. Maybe we were not the first asian or any group that your staff mistreated but I hope this is an eye opener to the company. read more

Ocoee Adventure Center - Rafting/Kayaking Near Me - Copperhill, Tennessee

Me, as we were driving the windy roads out to Copperhill to go white water rafting for the first time: "Nobody ever dies while white water rafting, right? I mean, when they are doing so with professional companies taking you out on the water?" Turns out I was wrong. This year alone there had been at least 3 deaths on the rapids and all were with professional rafting companies, though I cannot confirm which companies. This is why you have to sign disclaimer forms before going on your adventure, hahaha, eh. Hmmm. The Ocoee is known worldwide for its rafting. It has waters that are classified as Class III (difficult) and Class IV (very difficult) both of which you will find on the upper and middle portions of the Ocoee. The middle Ocoee has been around for decades and is available to raft most of the rafting season. The upper Ocoee was actually created by the TVA in the 1990's for the US Olympics during the 96' Atlanta Olympic games and is only open 30 days out of the year. The difference between the middle and upper is that they are both 5 miles long but the middle has more rapids to enjoy whereas the Upper has less rapids but more class IV (bigger) rapids than the middle. Ocoee Adventure Center offers trips on either/or or both. If you choose one it is considered a half day; if you choose both it is considered a full day. The cost is actually pretty cheap. I would recommend booking an early morning trip as you save $5 (total price: $35 each person with the discount for half day) plus the river is not nearly as crowded as it will be during the heat of the day. There are numerous rafting companies that serve the area so the river can get busy, in addition to the kayaks and locals. Our guide was a woman named Amy who has been doing this for over 15 years. Amy was pretty awesome. Your guide is very important as they will be the one directing you to paddle or dive down in your seat when you really hit the big waves. Hence you need to bring cash to tip your guide, especially if they help keep you from capsizing. Amy was awesome and even complemented our group, saying we were above-average rafters though most in our group had never done rafting before. The individual rapids have names such as Grumpy, Double Trouble and my personal favorite Hell's Hole. Some of the rapids are available for "surfing" which is when your guide instructs you to steer the raft up into the sloshing water, facing the rapids, while they hold it in place and ride the wave for seconds or even a minute or two (if they are that good). There are other calmer sections of the river where this company allows you to get out and take a dip if you wish. At some point during the trip down river the Ocoee Adventure Center will have a photographer standing on a bridge to take pictures of you drowning, I mean rafting. This is a great keepsake as they take tons of pictures you can choose from to purchase after your trip is over. It is not recommended to bring any cameras on the trip (even water proof) because you won't have much time to deal with such, though I saw some people with cameras around their neck. The instructions given were clear and the equipment in good condition. If you fall out of the raft they have methods to help you back inside. (FYI: this place is located on the outskirts of the Cherokee National Forest. I have AT&T (specifically the iPhone) and had zero signal, the kind that says No Service for miles leading out to the location. My friend who has Verizon had full bars. Though having no signal was kinda nice). The reason why I would pick this company over others is that their tours are slightly longer than a lot of the other companies offering rapid adventures and I feel that they give you more time on the water. The more time you spend on the river the more fun you will have. I sure had a great time. read more

There were a couple other companies on the river and I felt like this company's guides were definitely the best. Some of the guides from other companies got flustered and were yelling at the people in their raft. OAC guides were personable, cool, calm and collected. We had an excellent time on the water with William who was a very accommodating tour guide. At our request, we hit the Upper Ocoee as hard as we could spending extra time making sure we did it safely, but maximized the "fun" factor for a bunch of us on a bachelor party weekend. The staff was professional and friendly. The only reason I am not rating OAC at 5 stars is the fiasco with the Go-pro video. It was promised within two weeks of the completion of our adventure, and despite multiple calls and e-mails it did not show up (and only one of the three edited videos ran properly) before the wedding over three months later. Lots of excuses, but not worth the additional fee. Lesson learned, BRING YOUR OWN GO-PRO!!! Other than that OAC is highly recommended. read more

Took my family there for a whitewater rafting trip. They loved it and they all want to go back for a longer trip. We did the middle section o ly and it was a bunch of fun. Our guide was Greg and he was outstanding. He taught us a few tricks and helped to make it a great day on the river. This was a first trip for our three kids and the first time I have gone with my wife. It was a little tamer than I remembered from years ago but it was worth it and something that we will be doing again soon as a family. We also got to meet some really nice folks from other parts of the Southeast on our trip and our kids learned a little bit about stepping out of their comfort zones and doing things that are different. I can not remember a time they all have had so much fun getting wet and cold but it was great and we can't wait to do it again. If you choose to use this outfit for your whitewater rafting trip, make sure to ask for any guide but Fred. He has a gopro mounted on his helmet for a reason. He intends to send you into the most treacherous areas of the river while his buddies are filming and he is filming. Why? They make money off of you flying out of the raft. My 2 sisters and I went (one has gone down the Ocoee 3 times with no incident (upper and lower) and one kayaks serious water at least twice a month. I had gone down class 4 rapids in Colorado last year. No incident. We are in the raft less than 20 minutes and he runs the side of the boat up under rushing water to fill the boat (I guess hoping for screams or something)Water is pouring into the side of my head (right into my ear)We are drenched. We continue down river in the upper Ocoee listening to him drone on about his background and his plans ,in the midst of his narration you may hear gimme 2, gimme one, or you may not hear it at all since it is the same decibel level as the continual talk he is giving for his gopro footage. We did not practice any paddle maneuvers, (like the guides all around us were doing). Our boat was having issues because 3 of the paddlers were very inexperienced and were not syncing, Fred ignores this and we move on -THEN, we get to the Olympic course. He pulls us all over and all of us get out of the raft for 20 min while he runs down to pull "safety" at the end of the course. We get back in the boat with no instructions about what is ahead and what we need to do. All of a sudden, we hear, gimme 3 hard as the boat goes front down at 180. I am in the back of the boat and am catapulted into the white swirling foam. Everyone has been thrown out of the boat but no one knows where anyone is.The boat falls onto the head of one sister. I spend the next 1/4 mile trying to get my nose above the water (yes, I laid on my back with my knees up, hitting whirlpools and boulders that threw me forward and under)The man in front had a broken nose. I came so close to drowning by the time one of the 10 ropes thrown to me (none of them got close but the last one, I got out in shock and could not speak). Fred is asked (my sister overhears this) by another guide if he has all his party, he answers "I don't know" I was still struggling in the water so that shows you he is not looking out over the course. When first aid is applied to the split broken nose of man number 1. We all get back in the boat, moving him to the middle, head a little further. My sister and I get in front for the next leg and within 15 minutes, we go down another whitewater rapid (about a 3), he tells us all in for the 10th time that day[everyone sit your butt in the bottom of the boat with your paddle in the air] and this Yahoo runs us under water to fill the boat and our faces with water, [that scalding feeling when your nose and sinus's fill with water]. He asked us if we were having fun and want to do some more "surfing", I turn and say, I don't want to do anything else today where water runs up my nose. Well, that was all he needed, he hangs back so the other rafts go ahead he sends me into every boulder. I was sent face first into every bit of white water. The man behind began to brace himself and hold onto me as he saw this was going to be the future trend,try and throw her from the boat.He was going to make me pay for not being willing to be sacrificed for his "facebook youtube" Ocoee "carnage" dvd. We found out at lunch, that day was the last day they had to get "wreck" footage for this dvd they were selling 5 days later. It was all intentional. He could have killed us! One man did have a heart attack that day. So when they say your safety is their main concern, Just watch it, Read the reviews and stay away from this guy. These guys are great! They are very professional. They focus on safety first, but they are one of the few companies on the Ocoee that make sure they're on the river long enough to play in a couple of the fun rapids like Double Suck and Hollywood. Some companies on the Ocoee will try to get the trip down the river as quickly as possible so that they can fit more trips into a day. This is not one of those companies. These guys make sure you get your money's worth (and then some). We had a great experience, and can't wait to go back!
