We stopped in while exploring the Great River Road and Driftless region. There are literally books everywhere, in the best possible way! The books are organized in sections with signs labeling the genres. There is an "antique" aroma, which adds to the cool ambience! While the bookshop isn't huge, they have a good collection. We did manage to find a few to buy before leaving. And, their prices are reasonable. We really enjoyed the coffee shop. The coffee was good (I had an Americano). They also have a nice selection of pastries, and they have some that are both gluten and dairy free. That was a real plus. If we lived in the area, which we don't (we went up to see Taliesin), I would frequent Arcadia Books.

The selection here is HUGE and well organized. I was shocked at how terrific and well stocked the kids section is. From picture books to Chapter books, they have it all. I can't wait to show my 9 year old all the treasures here. The prices are outstanding. There is both a regular price on the inside cover and a "return credit" amount. You can read the book to your hearts content and bring it back for a credit toward a different book. How awesome is that? Also, there is a puzzle exchange at the back. I got two books to help me learn Spanish (a pandemic project of mine that is ongoing) for $7. Did I mention how much I love this bookstore?

Located in a tiny outpost on the Mississippi on the Wisconsin/Iowa border, a sweet little picturesque town of maybe 1,000 people. But this store would be a find in any big city with a reputation for having lots of book lovers. History - American, Iowan, Native American, wars, rare medical texts - literature, from Steven King to Basho's poetry. Kids' books of all kinds. Poetry, fiction, theology and religion. It was incredible to find something of this quality here. I bought a two volume set of Lincoln's speeches and writings, but if I lived in the area, this would become a favorite and frequent haunt. The owner was courteous and knowledgeable, too - a former airline pilot, if I recall, and he has wonderful taste. If you're a bibliophile who lives in or is passing through the area, it's worth a detour.
