And performed in such a way that the extraction point was quickly healed. The first experience was excellent. And so was the second visit. The only minus so far was one day with a long line and not enough people at the check-in desk. A small thing for sure. Easy to find. Plenty of parking. Easy proteins in reach at other local restaurants after the visit. If you're thinking about donating, I recommend you give Octapharma consideration. read more

GOOD HEAVENS. I would never donate at this crap-show of a place. I went there today 'cause I'm researching these places. I could see a line of around 20 people waiting to donate. They don't even provide chairs! They could easily hand out number and let you sit, but no; there was a long line with those zig-zaggy queue-management thingeys. The woman at the front explained the process; "does that make sense?" Me: "No, but that's OK." I had all I needed to know. Oh, and a guy, somewhat agitated, was there ahead of me, complaining about how he was treated by an employee previously. Sounded like the employee was doing stuff that's blatantly against the law, e.g., not changing gloves between clients. Yow. This is a serious health hazard. This place is very sketchy, probably just like every other business that caters to folks who are needy enough to wait 2 hours to sell their plasma. read more

I actually didn't get to donate because of a power outage. A security guard let me know this after I drove an hour from SF to my appointment. A phone call would have been nice to say hey, don't bother coming in today. Not going back to this location as the parking lot feels unsafe with shady people hanging out. Called in about donating and was told to drop in and expect a 2 hour visit. Check in at the front desk and am told to expect the visit to be 3 hours. Now I'm 3.5 hours in and am told to expect another 2 hours before my physical to be able to proceed. The staff is friendly, but there are not enough of them to facilitate a good donor experience. The discrepancy between what I was told when I called (2 hours) versus what I will have spent here (6+ hours) is ridiculous. read more

This place is a rip off. Do not go here. The people are rude. Their policies are inconsistent!! I arrived yesterday I was told to come back the following day. I came back the following day waited for three hours and then nothing! I was evaluated and then they all of a sudden they tell me I'm wheezing and because I'm wheezing which I wasn't I'm not allowed to donate plasma, even though I have been with this company in the past! I just wasted my entire Sunday afternoon here. These people are so rude and they have no idea what they're doing. They're not not even doctors and they want to make an assumption that I can't do any plasma because I'm breathing heavy?! They are very lazy and don't want to do their jobs. Save your time. I drove from out of the area more than 200 miles and they turned me down. They said they were short staffed, and I tried going to the location in San Pablo and the manager Virdy or Vetti told me I think you should go to another location and did not allow me to move along the donation process after the nurse told me there was a man from the neighborhood. Do you know your Social Security number by heart? You have to know your entire Social Security number by heart. Let me get my supervisor to tell you that's when the manager came in and practically banned me from that location I wasn't going to beg I tried explaining to her. The nurse conduct was a little outlandish from the beginning. The nurse said to me. Oh, it's so sad you have to drive all the way over here just to donate blood. My review is based on having donated 3 times in the last few weeks. -The first visit took a little over 3 hours because of the physical, video etc you have to do as a first-time donor. I went early in the morning to avoid crowds. -The second two visits were much faster. I was in and out in 2 hours or less. A good chunk of that time was spent waiting in line for them to take your blood pressure, weight and temperature. Once I got in the chair to donate, the process itself only took 40-50 minutes (I understand it can take longer for others; I happen to drink a ton of water most days so maybe that helps speed it up). -The staff is generally efficient and friendly. The only issue I had was when I went in as a first-time donor, I had to keep flagging different people down every step of the way after I finished one step and was ready to go onto the next. -The debit card system is fast and easy. They add value automatically after each time you complete a donation. read more

Keisha is very nice but everything else sucks. They treat you like garbage if you are honest and say you have mental health issues. You then have to get a form filled out by your doctor because apparently that makes you insane if you're on a mood stabilizer even though that doesn't affect your blood at all.. they just think you cant consent for yourself. So thanks for the waste of 10 bucks in gas, 2 hours of time, and the good cry I had for something that doest matter!! I guess that's what I get for trying to get paid. First time coming in here today. Wow, everyone is friendly, it's lengthy process but but you get to do something good and get paid.

The people who work here take their dear sweet time getting people through the process. That is very frustrating when there are obvious things they could do to operate more efficiently. One of which is removing the redundant steps in their process. I was there over four hour hours! Only to be told my pulse was too high. Which, is one of the last steps before donating. Because, the company is cheap. They don't compensate you one dime for your time and jumping through all the hoops they make you jump through to sell plasma. They could at least give you $5 - $10 as a thank you for your time. read more

Lousy customer service and awful management now... very disrespectful to clients and basically treat you like crap and like you're the scum of the earth! I am probably not going to donate with Octapharma Plasma Oakland, CA anymore and I have been a donor for 1 1/2 years! Stay clear of this place! I would have given them 4 to 5 stars up until the last 2-3 months. Unfortunately, a lot of the veteran staff including managers have now left and that seems to be the issue. Note that I have know issue with the current veteran staff members, who have stayed like Keisha, Karina (Karina spelled with an "a" at the end of her name), Jazmin, and Valeria. But have had an awful experience lately with many of the newer staff members, some of which transferred from other offices. The wait time is much longer to check-in now with the newer staff members being used, who are also phlebotomists, and do needle sticks too. You would assume that because they're phlebotomists they would have good customer service skills but I have been ignored and forgotten about by them and treated as insignificant to them. For instance, I was waiting for a retake at check-in. The person, who was supposed to come get me for my retake per her instructions, left the check-in area without saying anything to me. I had to approach another check-in person to complete my check-in after she never came to get me. And as for the donation itself, it's not any better than the check-in. On one occasion, a newer staff member, who was free, intentionally ignored me for 10 minutes after I finished my donation and was ready to have my needle removed. Someone else had to assist me. It was disrespectful and showed she did not care about me as a customer. I suppose I could have complained to the manager about this person but the thing is that the manager was present in the donor area when this occurred. He was a newer manager and seemed oblivious to what was happening. It was not even that busy when this occurred too. read more

Unbelievably unprofessional, and horribly unsanitary: imagine the lobby at Highland staffed by MetroPCS employees and you'll understand why you want to avoid this place if at all possible. Essentially just a business that trades in blood components, but this place is what you get when the staff and management (and evidently regulators) put in zero effort. Granted they have no actual medical training or other qualifications, but the staff somehow manages to provide the absolute lowest level of customer service while simultaneously fumbling the most basic procedures -- I guess they are just too busy playing security guard and gossiping to actually pay any attention to their basic operations. Worst of all no one seems to understand the concept of hand washing or proper glove use, it is absolutely horrifying to watch their blatant disregard for cross-contamination; the kitchen at the Burger King nextdoor is probably more hygienic. If you really want to 'save lives' (and preserve your own) please jut find a local non-profit blood bank/drive. read more

Mary is the sweetest kindest soul will always take her time and make sure you're good! The customer service is real East Oakland like, hospitable and genuine but you ain't gon just be fuckin around talkin reckless. The first time takes hella long be ready to spend 5 hours I know they say 3 but it be longer than that. Be ready bring your birth certificate SSN and take a shower cuz they finna make you take off all ya clothes and even check ya toes. If you don't like blood or needles da hell you donating for but if you like money they pay fiddy bucks for the first 5 times you get paid right after. Ive donated at this center several times without issue, but today I experienced one of the worse incompetent medical workers. I've worked in healthcare for over 10 years as a medical assistant then now hire and train medical assistants. I thought it was strange when Dreyhanna went to take my oral temperature and it was somewhat painful. She took it a second time and it was just as painful. She placed the probe in the incorrect spot underneath my tongue both times, as a result she claims my temperature was too high. And she instantly turned off the machine when I went to verify the value. I've always been healthy and never had a temperature in my adult life. When I asked her could I take it my own, because I'm very familiar with the machines, she said no. I asked for the manager, Sade, and asked her could she take my temperature correctly. She said no. I asked the male nurse could he take my temperature correctly and he stated no. It seems like everyone was trying to cover up for her inadequacy. I am very concerned at the amount of people that are passed through because of lack of competency and those that are turned away due to the same reasons. With plasma being life saving, I'm sad potential lives are being lost because perfectly good and healthy donors are being turned away. I know now to speak up at the time when something doesn't feel right and ask to verify value from looking at the machine myself. read more
