Best cinema in London. Where else could you get everything from James Bond to Disney movies?…read more Screenings here tend to fall into various categories. First, you've got the newer releases. Often a few weeks behind the mainstream cinemas, but they'll bring films back that aren't showing much anymore or about to be released on dvd, so you can catch things you missed first time round. You also get the occasional screening of films that had been remastered, like Bladerunner or 2001: Space Odyssey. Then there's the special seasons, spread out over a series of weeks. These might focus around one director (they showed all of Kubrick's films), a particular studio (Studio Ghibli and Disney) or the James Bond Retrospective. There are movie marathon nights, where a whole series of films are screened over an evening and survivors photos are taken of those who make it through the night. Sing-a-longs, where people are encouraged to go in costume and everyone sings along to the musical on the screen. Beer and pizza nights, where you get a free beer and slice of pizza with whatever cult classic they've pulled out of the archive. There really is something for everyone, no matter what kind of films you enjoy. My top tip would be to buy membership. An annual membership is only £10, one of their screenings is £1 for members every week and you save a bit on all your tickets, so you soon make the money back.

The Prince Charles is well known for it's collection of indie movies, while it shows some new releases, they're normally the more unusual choices over the big block busters shown around the corner on the Square. It's true draw, however, comes from their cult movie nights. For example, 'The Room', where else could you see that in London, let alone be allowed to throw spoons at the screen? They also have double bills, marathon screenings and sing-a-long-a movies! I can't wait to see Rocky Horror at Halloween! And they serve beer! Some of the marathons appartently do a beer & pizza night, but I haven't experienced that yet... It was only my first time but I'll be sure to update you when I've been a few more times.

One of the oldest and first cinema's to show film in London. I actually went to see a double bill of Hitchock. They seem to have a few good arthouse or classic double bills which breaks the mould. Lovely seats and setting. Screen not huge so anywhere from rows 3-10 I reckon are best. Don't go too far back if eyesight is not good. Because of the grand exterior and interior it gets a high mark. Coffee nothing to shout about but saw people getting wine but must say they need more seats around foyer as no where to sit behind 15 people I reckon. That they can improve on.

Before the days of TV, the cinema would show newsreels during World War Two, bringing news to Londoners whose loved ones were away fighting in the war. Owned by the University of Westminster, right next to the university near Oxford Circus. A 119 year old building, it was used by the university as lectures hall for the past 30 years, and has recently been rebuilt in an art-deco style and re-opened to the public showing independent and art house films, a place for film events, lectures and workshops. More suited to lectures, the seating is not that comfortable to watch a film, but the bar area is nice and spacious with a great selection of drinks around the world, to meet before or after a film.

This review is for the beautiful new screening room they have. It's intimate and was invite only so I guess it's for special occasions or internal showings or functions. I went to see Deadpool as part of soho create to showcase soho's vast array of creative industries in central London. Firstly the sound of course is unreal. Perfect. The film was shown for first time in Dolmy atmos and Dolby vision. It was like a home cinema with intimate seating of about 100 or so I think but with crisp picture (big screen, but sit 5 rows up for great view). The sound was brilliant and I cannot fault this cinematic experience. If you ever hear of a screening here you must go! No ifs no buts this made the film more epic than I even imagined. And yes it was a good film too. Way to go Dolby! And Ryan Reynolds...
