There team of 4 (1 drummer, 1 cymbal and 2 dancers) were very professional. They arrived on time and even brought 2 sets of dragons for us to decide between: a vivid blue and a red. Based on their suggestion, we went with the blue since it would probably not frighten the young children and I am so happy, the dragon photographed beautifully! (Funny how the idea of a punch to the gut is way less frightening than the thought of hanging out in a baseball dugout, but apparently someone read way too much into Lord of the Flies as a child.) The school is run by Shi Fu Gary Mitchell, who has been training in kung fu for 20+ years. He offers traditional Hung Gar kung fu (for adults and for kids) as well as Tai Chi Chuan and self-defense, and there will also be a new Wing Chun class this fall. No matter the style, though, Shi Fu tailors the material depending on who is attending and what their level is. So, no two classes are the same: you may see elements of boot camp, shadow boxing, light sparring, etc., or you might focus on particular techniques (hand strikes, blocks, kicks, and so on). There is also a specific curriculum you have to know for your level, so you're always learning new things and finding ways to improve upon what you already know. Shi Fu is undoubtedly devoted to the art, so he has has high expectations for his students and is continually motivating us to give it our all. There's an awesome community at Chien Hong. The training brothers and sisters are super supportive and friendly, and they're always happy to answer questions and help you practice. Also, the school participates and performs in lots of activities around Atlanta--Chinese New Year and parades, notably--so that's pretty darn nifty to show off to your friends and family.

The comradeship, sharing of knowledge, and simple fun with jujitsu was almost beyond words. Various schools come together to support one another for the sake of sharing Jujitsu with Atlanta. Our class started off with kickboxing - rotating through different exercises with the punching bag, and ended with circuits. Our instructor (gosh I forgot his name) had amazing energy- probably one of our favorite instructors across a bunch of different exercise classes. The only thing is lol we were confused about some of the moves at the punching bag. He was really helpful but jumped around helping other people so you kinda just have to freestyle it. Luckily the people next to us were super helpful and friendly! Clean facilities and great natural lighting. Definitely one of the better kickboxing places around Atlanta!

I signed up online and received an email response the next day. I conversed with Chad via email and a woman on the phone. They both were very nice. Additionally, Joey gave me the run down of membership during my consultation but failed to give me a tour of the place until I asked. Now on to why I give this place only 2 stars. The place is NOT sanitary, well kept or air conditioned. The treadmill has duct tape on the belt. There is one large fan cooling the room. The mats and equipment that we used during classes are not cleaned. I personally attended a boot camp and cardio boxing class. After each class of at least 10 people sweating profusely on the equipment and mats, they were simply returned to their starting location. Additionally, the initial bag that I used for cardio boxing had visible sweat/slob stains and what appeared to be white vomit stains. Boot camp was good. It started late (which seems to be a trend at this place), but it was a good and challenging workout. The instructor took time to demo each station and observed, corrected and encouraged participants throughout the workout. Cardio boxing sucked. I'm sorry but I have no other words to describe my experience. Class was supposed to start at 6:00a. We twirled a jump rope with one hand and jogged in place for over 20 minutes!! I tried to actually jump rope to get a more intense workout but Baba (the instructor) informed me to twirl the rope instead. We did not start boxing until 6:35a. Then, Baba did not demo each move (only a few) and was not motivating or encouraging. I did not know if I had correct form because he was not helpful. After the boxing portion we were to do abdominal work. It was now 7:00a, so if you actually needed to leave on time and maybe go to work, sorry you would have missed out. We did ab workouts for about 10 minutes. The restroom was semi clean, did not have any soap and the shower curtain is see-through. I wanted to attend cardio kickboxing to see how my experience would be, but honestly I don't think I'll return even though I still have a week left. FYI: * $99 down; $99/mo for cardio only classes * $129/mo for all classes (MMA, Muay Thai, etc) * Gym is only open during scheduled classes or Open Mat times * First time boxing gloves are free. The music is great, the energy is high, and the class keeps you fully engaged. Jacqueline McGee is easily one of the best spin instructors I've had in over 25 years. She sets the tone from start to finish and creates a welcoming, non-judgmental environment. There are always new people in class, and by the end, everyone feels comfortable and motivated, which says a lot about her leadership and coaching style. The pricing is very reasonable--$99 for 15 spin classes per month is an excellent value for the quality you're getting. The facility is clean, well-maintained, with plenty of parking and nice locker rooms. You can also see small-group training and other classes in action, especially on their social media. Overall, it's a great class in a great facility, and supporting a Black-owned business thriving in the Atlanta and surrounding area is always a positive. Highly recommended.
