Effect Fitness is the bootcamp that you didn't know you needed. If it is your first class at Effect Fitness please bring a friend with you to get you through this intense 40 minute workout. When you book the class online it usually says it starts at the top of the hour or at the half hour. The owner Dooley and other instructors usually start 10 minutes after scheduled time. Please arrive at scheduled time so you have enough leeway to use the restroom and stretch before class starts. When class starts you have one goal- PERFORM!! Each class schedule is aired a week in advance on the IG page @effectfitness. To prepare for the different types of classes you should have a leg band, arm band, 2-3 pound weights, and 5-8 pound weights. This is a HIIT bootcamp class, so there will be lots of reps. The 2 pound weight will easily feel like 40 pounds after one song. Choose wisely haha I also completed my first 5K run with Effect Fitness this past summer. I attended the Saturday bootcamp. I'd give the music, staff and energy a 5. It was way TOO HOT in there though. There were probably ~200 people in a room with black painted walls, NO AC and NO running fans on a rainy, humid day. Sweat was literally flying off of people during the moves and you could see steam rising around the room because it was so hot. I've worked out a lot and have never been that hot during an indoor workout. I love a good workout/sweat but I'm not sure how safe that was. I would come back for the energy and music but it would need to be a day that's better ventilated with less people in there. I'd also need to have a gallon of water in me first lol read more

My friend took me here for one of their brick classes. When I say it was challenging but so worth it I mean it! I will definitely be back. It was so much fun. Ok. I lost my mind and some unwanted fat up in this trap music melanin full body workout extravaganza. I had been parking lot stalking Effect for awhile as I live in the area and after seeing a pic of myself in a swimsuit decided to get back right. No side eye no haters -all were welcoming and young, old, big, small, short, tall, men, women were in there getting it. They even have a babysitter on site if you have to bring the little ones. Very unique gym in Atlanta. I really loved the boot camps here. Music is good and workouts are challenging and unique. Music is good and energy is unmatched. I've lived in a lot of cities across the US and can honestly say this is the most unique, fun & challenging workout. Check out their IG @effectfitness to get an idea of the kind of HIIT workouts. My favorite day is Saturday when Bricks are incorporated. Also, major bonus is there is security at this gym at all times of the day, morning, noon and night! Obviously crime in ATL has been on the rise and car/window break ins are at an all time high. I feel comfortable going in at any time and knowing my car and belongings are safe. Shout out to Tubey! He is always in the parking lot keeping watching over things and keeping people in line. If you're in ATL, definitely check this gym out. Oh and not to mention, I burn at least 500-600 calories (sometimes more) in less than a hour here! read more

My only concern was that it was challenging to follow the instructor because he wasn't in the front of the class. This a great basic gym with intense style boot camp classes to hip hop music. You will definitely be sweaty and enjoy yourself when leaving. The atmosphere is very welcoming, the price is affordable and they have all of the basic equipment you need to workout. I've worked out a lot of places and while this gym lacks amenities it provides everything you need including daycare for $5 per child per session and vendors selling salads and juices. Pros: Black owned Black trainers Great classes Affordable Personal training Secured parking No need to reserve ahead of time Childcare They have a bomb vendor fair on Saturdays Cons (here is where I took off stars): 1)The classes are always packed ( think 70-100 ppl) and it sometimes makes the space too hot or tight. Class limits could easily solve this. 2) there are no demos or onboarding classes so you have to look at your neighbor or someone on front of you to catch on to the moves. It's fine but doesn't ensure you're doing anything correctly which isn't as effective and can lead to injury. 3) The classes routinely start 15-20 minutes late. I mean EVERY day. I try to make 5:30 and we always start at 5:45/5:50 waiting on the small group to finish. This really bothers me because it's an easy fix I've also gone at other times and at 7:30pm it's only about a 10 min delay. In essence the classes are only about 30-40 minutes 4) the bathrooms/ changing rooms. They are very basic and kind of dismal. They are also small so you really need to come dressed and there are no showers. 5) the gym equipment is not available to members for use unless they are small group training. Very unfair This is a great place if you need a basic no frills space and even better if you do well with working out or you are ok with no frills read more

Wheeeeeew! Effect got me together Tuhday!! I had to write a review. This is a gym for both professionals and beginners. I am not lying when I tell you that both Cam Newton and my 64 year old mother were in the same boot camp class, TOGETHER, and they both got the workout they needed. My children also attend personal training with a highly decorated coach who has trained many NFL and college football players. Any goals you may have, whether weight loss, sports conditioning, or physique competitions, can be achieved at Effect Fitness. Pilates, stretch, and massage are available on site with Stretch ATL. I love them because they help me prevent injuries and soreness while assisting with my flexibility. Spreading the Health is on site to provide pure fresh juices, smoothies, and salads to replenish your body after those strenuous workouts. Also to provide cleanses and weight loss options. They have a ginger drink that is toooo die for, yummmy. Effect has onsite childcare that is actually STEM focused and my kids actually enjoy going. SECURITY!!!! Yes, they have security from open to close cause they are off of what used to be Stewart Ave for my over 30s, and we don't need no drama while working on our fitness journeys. There are many workouts available: strength training, yoga, boot camp etc. I plan to try out the spin class very soon. I know the instructors will be welcoming as are all of the other Effect Fitness instructors and trainers, but just like all of them, including My WOEs (Women of Effect), they won't take any excuses. I hate working out. I really, really do. That said, I was preemptively thinking of any excuse to drop this gym when I first rolled up on it. Its on Metropolitan, in an old strip mall. It doesn't look like much from the outside but looks are really deceiving in this instance. One thing they absolutely do right is that the money went towards top-notch equipment! I've been training here since November of 2018 and with the traffic inside, I expected the equipment to be run down by now but, no! Everything so far has been well maintained and I definitely appreciate that. The trainers are serious about what they do, just know that. Nobody wants you to fail and it shows in their individual styles. I personally love the group-workout dynamic. it's so encouraging to feed off others' energy and pace yourself. EVERYONE is welcome! There are so many fitness levels and everyone is encouraged to challenge themselves without judgement. Yes, there are several different body types and ability levels and commitments. All of it is ok, and I think that's what ultimately keeps me coming back. The only reasons I couldn't give 5 stars are really for things that are kindof minor, but I hope can be taken care of as time goes on. The dressing rooms are tiny and crowded, and there never seems to be enough space for everyone's things. Also, sometimes the heat is on unnecessarily, so it can get really uncomfortable for people that are sensitive to that sort of thing. I love that they're thriving and that so many of us patronize the gym, though, so hopefully they'll be able to expand for more space, bigger bathrooms/changing rooms and maybe showers. read more

This place has been recommended more than 5 times to me and I finally got the courage to go[ of course with the push of my sister and her bestfriend]. This would be their second location because they outgrew the first one. Its high intense cardio with hype music to get you through the trash talking of the trainer and your pure desire to just stop. it can be overwhelming but the energy is so high plus the music that it makes you want to keep going and push yourself. its about a 45 min class but only the true gym goers actually fully complete the workouts but that's ok WHY? bcuz EVERYONE is either dying, sweating and trying their best! I didn't feel judged and I shared a few eye locks with people looking the same like "oh' shiddd im not doing that" lol Warning: I have asthma and I couldn't breath bcuz its sooooooo many people the air is thick and hot. I had the pleasure of attending a Bricks class (my favorite) and a Bootcamp class. Both will seriously have you reevaluating your life's choices LOL! The whole Effect Fitness team is amazing and do a great job at making sure you feel welcomed and comfortable - buuuut that all ends once the class starts. Once the class start you better get your ass in gear or you WILL get called out. This is not the gym for anyone sensitive or not ready to put in WORK because what they DON'T allow is anyone to come in and half-ass it. But to be honest, the energy in the room is so contagious, it makes you want to give nothing less than 100% and leave it all on the floor. I've been here about 7 times ! When you walk in the ladies checking you in are so sweet and supportive . They have boot camp classes at 5:30 and 6:30 am, noon and 4:30,5:30, 6:30pm . First class is free which is a nice pressure free incentive . My first time i felt so hot I've never sweated so much . The more i came i adjusted i still sweat but i feel so good after . Each day is different sometimes you use resistant bands, light weights , ankle weights , giant tires . You can drop in for 10$ , 12 classes 70$ and unlimited 90$. I love this place. Dooley is an amazing coach/trainer! He pushes you to be a better you. The music is awesome and the atmosphere is so inviting. Everyone is a family and supports each other during each workout. All shapes and sizes come in to workout. It doesn't matter if you're a beginner or an advanced athlete. We're all here to get in a good workout. There is no judgment here. I've been coming for a few years now. Back when it was a small venue and we've grown into something so great! Since moving to this newest location, I have watched Effect go from good to awesome to average. I don't know what Powerade the owner and some of his trainers have been sipping on--but they won't have longevity if they don't get a grip. What used to be almost like a sanctuary to come get a good burn and effective workout, has become a dreadful toxic environment with lots of MAJOR EGO TRIPS and fake girl cliques. The trainers act with a sense of entitlement and are highly egotistical, expecting female clients to behold them and jock them. I say this, because if you don't speak and acknowledge them--they will straight up ignore you from then on out and act like complete assholes. This whole new WOE group is annoying at best. REAL women don't come to a gym or to workout to be in competition with other women, yet this fake "mean girls" club has created an atmosphere for just that. Miss me with all that clique high school bullshit--we all grown and just trying to improve our health and fitness. I don't know when this change happened but I will be fading back and completely away. Dooley has seemed to forgot the purpose for his vision. Effect grew because of his dedication true enough but it also grew in large part due to word of mouth and ppl vouching for their experiences here. In business customer care is key. You can't shit on the ppl who literally are feeding your thriving business. As I said, I dread coming in here but because of its location--I suck it up and go and try to zone out and just get my workout in. But the overall energy and vibe of this place has gone down tremendously. I always overhear gossip in the dressing rooms about women getting cussed out for being late to sessions or accidentally being in the wrong area of the gym. Ain't nobody got time for that--and I'm the type, if anyone cussed me out--police would be called cause I'm gonna go head to head with you for being disrespectful. After two Bootcamp classes - I purchased the the 12 session membership - two weeks later I upgraded to the unlimited membership. I started Effect Fitness for weight lost but I realized the weight lost is a plus I return 4 to 5 times a week for the mental strength given in just bootcamp session. "Push pass that bullshit and Find a way" are phrases I live by now. Dooley and the Effect Fitness Team add value to lives daily by the energy, support and love shown AT ALL TIMES! This is an amazing workout. I have been coming for almost 2 months. I love seeing the transformation in a few people since I have been coming. My friend kept telling me to try it. She looks 10 years younger. Your in and out within 40 minutes. Prepare to sweat. The music is full of energy. Don't get frustrated if it is hard in the beginning. Work at your pace and then one day you will look up and you'll be doing the class without stopping. You never know what class will be on the day you come in. There's so many people in this training center that are so supportive and genuinely interested in your experience here. I've often been confused on whether I'm talking to an employee or to another like minded athlete there for the same reason I am. I'm used to high intense workout classes with awesome music when I lived in DC. This class made me miss DC so bad. I had to share the negative experience I had at Effect on yesterday. Although it was an isolated incident, I believe everyone working in the establishment represents the brand. The W.O.E. we're hosting an event yesterday (unbeknownst to me), and one of the female trainers insulted a large room of clients. I was flabbergasted!!! Her demeanor was cantankerous, obnoxious and very unnecessary!!! The way she spoke to the clients of other trainers was very unprofessional and left a blemish on the business! I came to this facility because I heard about the great work going on there(and there is-lives are being changed), and it's black owned!!! I think EVERYTHING should be done with decency and order. The behavior of this trainer left a bad taste in my mouth. You receive such a warm welcome from the ladies at the front door and they bid a you a warm good night! Perhaps some "professionalism" training may be in order for this particular trainer. Just because the location is on Metropolitan Pkwy doesn't mean the behavior has to be!!
