Took the my parents to Tarpon Springs for the weekend as recommended by a friend who grew up there. We decided to take the cruise, hoping to see some dolphins & collect some shells at Aneclote Key. Our guide Rick & Capt Sam gave us really good information. But Rick gave us history lesson about the town & about the environment. That was really great information! This was a wonderful informative, one hour dolphin cruise For $12 we got a wonderful ride on a pontoon style boat, with a tour guide that was so knowledgeable of the area, I learned a lot about the natives and the Greeks. This was a super fun one-hour cruise on the Anclote River. The wildlife biologist who led the tour was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about nature and also the history of the area, including the Civil War and a "haunted" area which has been cursed since Confederates hung Union soldiers from the lighthouse. When I accidentally dropped an empty plastic bottle on the deck, she quickly ran over and snatched it before it could pollute the river. The best part of all was that we saw many dolphins who were fishing nearby. Our guide explained about dolphin intelligence and behavior, with verve and humor. The only negative is that the Rum Runner drink, while very sweet, appeared to lack alcohol. While it was not yet noon, as others on the boat said, "It's always 5:00 somewhere." However my priorities are with the environment and not Happy Hour. I would definitely return for the shelling, private island and sunset cruises, it was such a great experience. read more

This was a fun tourist thing to do, and the price isn't too bad. There's a cheap lot right where the boat docks. You can pre-buy alcoholic drinks or pay on board for a little more. There's room for sitting under the shaded part or up by the bow. There's even a toilet if needed. The guide shared some interesting facts as the boat drives out to Anclote Island, and we did end up seeing some dolphins. The island had tons of shells and there was enough time to get in the water if desired. The sunset cruise obviously ended at sunset, which was really pretty on the beach horizon. The whole beach ride was about an hour. The site says no outside food/drinks, but they don't check, so go ahead and bring a bottle of water if you want. What a fun morning. We went on the earliest cruise they offered on a Monday morning and despite the clouds and dreary weather had a wonderful experience. Captain Dallas and Rick were great! We saw a few dolphins including a mother and calf playing. The island we went to was full of shells and we ended up having so many we put some back in. We got some great history on the area and learned a lot about the creatures in the water in the area. I definitely recommend this! read more

Did a sunset cruise recently and it was still perfection. Love the captain and the guy I nicknamed "Mustache" because he called me "Fungus" because of my green nail polish. So affordable! And we got to look for shells for a little bit too. If you plan on having drinks, buy them at the ticket booth because it's cheaper! And we learned about sponges and all of us girls ended up buying some at a gift shop with a very sweet woman working. She said we got 10% off since we took the cruise. I have gone out with Odyssey Cruises a few times over the years, and this latest adventure was plenty fun with dolphins jumping out of the water! We took the tour over to Anclote Key and got off the boat to shell collect for a little bit or just walk the beach for about 30 minutes. I helped my out-of-towner-family find seashells. I was lucky to go out with my mom, 2 aunts, 1 uncle, 2 cousins and 2 nieces! We had the biggest group on the boat. So much fun! This was my first time going on a dolphin cruise with Odyssey Cruises and I am looking forward to my next trip with them already! Rick was a great tour guide and very knowledgeable about the area and he made the experience that much more enjoyable. We saw several dolphin on this trip and found lots of great shells on Anclote Key. We took this cruise in early September and it seemed to be their off season because the boat wasn't even half full which was also a nice treat. The music they played on the boat was beachy. They have a good selection of beverages on board and they offer a discount if you purchase the drinks before you get on the boat. Also, if you purchase drinks before getting on the boat, you can use your credit card. They only accept cash on the boat (they let you know that before you take off). read more

However our trip was shortened due to weather conditions....the trip was scheduled for 2 hrs and a full blown storm caught us in the middle so we had to turn back...we were supposed to stop at a little island for shelling and it didn't happen. My kids were very disappointed that we literally went on the boat ‍ and 45 minutes later we were back at the pier... so check the weather before you book your trip. Also, bring cash if you plan to buy drinks from them. Other than that it is supposed to be a great trip... My husband and I enjoyed this river ride on a sunny, cool Friday afternoon after a yummy Greek lunch. The guide on the boat, who said he was a former teacher, was knowledgeable about marine biology and local history and lore. In between interesting facts, fun songs we could bop to were played as we took in the beauty of the river. We had about 4-5 dolphin sightings, and one time a dolphin breached out of the water. Anaclote Key was the best part of the tour, quiet, with many shells since people can only get there by boat. We were allowed 30 minutes to walk around, but by the time everyone got off and on the boat, it was closer to 20. I wish they could do more like Caladesi Island where they drop people off to spend at least an hour or two on the island. Our biggest complaint is when we bought our tickets online, there was an option to pay $3 less if you stay on the boat. Of course, we wanted to go on the island, so we paid the extra $3. The guide did hand us a small bucket to collect shells in and then gave us a plastic bag to take them home in, but no one checked to see whether or not people had paid the extra $3. I considered it a mandatory gratuity for the extra work the guide did for those going on the island. Because of that, I did not feel I needed to give more for a tip at the end. All in all, I am pleased with a fun afternoon activity, and if you are looking for something to do during your trip to Tarpon Springs, I can recommend it. read more

I loved everything about this ride. The day I took this ride I had a day off so I planned on taking a boat ride with my fur baby Mocha Coconut. They r dog friendly so it was nice, relaxing, and super super easy. We took a boat ride and saw the surrounding area and stopped on Anclote key. The water here was so pretty and I loved it. I took Mocha in his stroller since they do not allow dogs on foot on the island. All was well and this was a perfect boat ride! I can't stop smiling thinking about it now. Odyssey Cruises at the Sponge Docks in Tarpon Springs offered a beautiful boat ride. You start the tour on the Anclote River and float along to the Gulf of Mexico. The Captain told us many stories of the history of Tarpon Springs and the famous Sponge Docks. I took my niece on the cruise for her birthday and we both had a great time! However, we were disappointed as the cruise was scheduled to stop at Anclote Island where we could get off and hunt for seashells. But the day of our cruise the waters were up and you could barely see the island so we were unable to dock. You can purchase beer, wine, soda and water on the cruise. I recommend purchasing at the same time you purchase your tickets, prior to boarding, as the prices are cheaper than purchasing on board. And I love to save money! There's also one souvenir shop at the Sponge Docks, across from the Odyssey cruise ticket booth, where you can receive a 10% discount if you have purchased an Odyssey cruise ticket. Two hour sunset cruise from Tarpon Springs in front of Hellas Restaurant. Beer,, margaritas, water, rum runners were for sale on the boat. There was a bathroom on board. Naturalist told us about birds, pelicans, fish, homes, sponges ... we were given bags to put seashells want of spurs hurting our feet and let off at the Howard Beach Park for 45 minutes in the middle of nowhere. We were told that we were in the bay and we should cross over to the Gulf of Mexico for pretty shells. read more

Poor signage and instructions after you book your cruise. Also you will need a paper ticket (which is totally ridiculous when you can show your ticket purchase on your phone). We stood in line and didn't find out we needed a paper ticket until boarding time in which case the man sent me away to go get them. If they're going to require something so ridiculous they should have someone walking around saying you need to also get a paper ticket. That made us the last people on board. I had three kids with me and there were no seats left for us to sit together. So I had to separate from my small kids to even be able to sit down. How stupid. Finally for safety reasons I just got up and crammed next to my kids. No one would even move an inch to help us. The captain was just watching us struggle. We saw no dolphins and the shells are the same size as you would find on any other beach. It's pretty deceptive that they put out a table showing huge shells as if that's what you'll find if you book with them. No you won't. The guy on the mic was nice and took pictures of us holding giant shells that you will NOT find on the beach but at least we got to hold one! LOL! Overall not worth it. read more

It's reasonably priced, you get out on the water; and, the best part, you get to visit the Anclote Sandbar. We always wear our suits to take a swim.
