The office is very responsive, the environment is relaxed and welcoming. The staff is very friendly. The doctor was knowledgeable and has clear communication. I strongly caution prospective and current patients of Dr Michael Langehans at Off Island Dental to carefully evaluate this practice before they choose to engage their services. Based on my experience during a recent major procedure, I cannot recommend them for on-going dental care. After thousands of dollars paid and over six months to complete, I have ended up with mis-shaped and uncomfortable bridge work he installed that are now missing two teeth that broke off within a month of being installed. I must now PAY AGAIN to have this bridge work removed and another bridge prepared and installed. I have been a patient of Dr Langehans at Off Island Dental for over a year. I am familiar with good dental care from other providers, and the importance of regular visits. But because of problems I experienced with his work, I cannot recommend the services of Dr Langehans at Off Island Dental. After all the time, discomfort, and money that I have invested in this procedure I am extremely disappointed. read more

I went in and was out within a 1/2 an hour after having my tooth extracted, best dentist in town.

I will NEVER go to this dentist again. The front desk and the hygienist were wonderful. The dentist, Dr. Langehans was gruff and had zero empathy. After having Exrays we talked about my need to have my tooth extracted and I told him that I have a reaction to epinephrine. He told me that he would use it anyway and was dismissive about my concerns. He didn't appear to care that I was nervous and apprehensive. He didn't care about my concerns and his manner of talking to me like a child was beyond rude. He told me to call and schedule the appointment for another day and I heard him refer to me as "beach and sunshine" which I took as an insult about my moving here from Boston. This so called dentist should be reported for even suggesting that I be given epinephrine even after being told of my past reactions which was quite scary for me. Condescending and rude are just two words to describe this man. I'm shocked that he has a dental practice at all considering his demeanor. I guess he only likes local customers from the south. I've been a patient at Off Island Dental for 10+ years. We found them quite by accident. No sooner had we moved in then I lost a crown. My neighbor recommended this practice; and recognizing this was an urgent matter, they squeezed me in. His staff is cheerful, attentive and try very hard to accommodate my scheduling needs. There's very little turnover & I'm happy to see the same faces at this stable practice. The cleanings are done gently and professionally. If I've needed further services, Dr Mike tries to be as painless as possible. He's experienced, straightforward & explains the procedure clearly. He's also personable, tries to get to know a little about his patients and responds to questions about the process. Something as simple as "remember to raise your left hand if theres pain, discomfort or you need a break" is very reassuring. I've always felt cared for & in capable hands. I have no hesitation to recommend the dentist & staff to my friends & family. read more

I went to Off Island Dentist because of pain in the upper right tooth. He said the crown was cracked and needed to be redone. When I went for my appointment the dental assistant did the work of removing the old crown and at the next appointment placing in the new crown. It still wasn't right although Dr. Langehans assured me to was fine. I went to another dentist who said the crown didn't cover the tooth completely, was too high, and the tooth had been grinded down too far. I had to pay to have it completely redone by Dr. Wooster. If I could give no stars I would. They lied to me about being "In-Network" from December to April. They have charged me over $1000 worth of work, and dragged it out for over 6 months when I went to a dentist down the street and they told me that it was a way to make money by repeatedly charging you and your insurance company for a procedure that can take 3-4 hours TOTAL. My fiancé went to the dentist about a broken tooth and was quoted over $1000 and a root canal. We left and went to a different dentist who discovered that a root canal was NOT needed, and we walked out of there paying hundreds of dollars less. Even though they made him schedule an appointment before he left. Also, I have been making monthly payments and was told "it's not a problem" "we will work with you" and I get a phone call today from a collection company for Off Island Dental. They are CROOKS. They will lie to you, scam you out of your money, and smile in your face the entire time. BEWARE of them. Seriously read more

We had a very unsatisfactory experience with this dentist. While they were good enough to make an urgent same day appointment for an emergency tooth extraction, the procedure was made unpleasant by the attitude of the dentist. He was very gruff and short with us. We requested pain medication and antibiotic afterward as a precaution, but he refused to prescribe anything. The pain continued throughout our family vacation and resulted in a follow up visit to another dentist several days later, wasting money and a day of our vacation. The other dentist was astounded that the large extraction was not sutured and that we had no antibiotics. This other dentist fixed everything and did not speak highly of the original dentist. I spoke to the office manager about the situation suggesting that a reimbursement might be in order to cover the cost of our second dentist visit but got the run-around about not being able to talk about it on the phone. Dentistry needs to be held to high standards. There are numerous better choices in Bluffton, and I cannot recommend that you choose Off Island Dental for any procedure. read more

It completely tortures me to write a revision to my initial review for this dentists office because they were seriously the best practice in the county. The dentist is still great, but his office staff is driving me away. The person at the front desk, Jennifer, is rude and incompetent. She did not check my insurance before my husbands arrival and it cost me a deposit of almost $500. It took her close to six months to file and answer the insurance company about the Xrays they took. Even afterward, the accounts seemed wrong. When I asked about it, she literally said to me that she would get to it "when she had time" and I should not get upset over it. This was more than four months into the lack of filing insurance. My husband was supposed to go for a follow up procedure. Instead we found a new dentist and I just received a bill for $30 from an appointment he had last June 2015. I feel like we overpaid our account and, even after texting the dentist personally - we received no response. This is just too painful to deal with anymore. Its a terrible loss because Dr. Langehans is a great dentist, but I will not deal with her again...even if I have to find a dentist in Beaufort. read more

The tooth the doc told me was next to my sinus cavity as the reason I was feeling pain, well if he would have looked at the tooth and taken an x-ray he would have seen what three other dentists saw, an abscessed tooth! I had to have an emergent root canal and am now stuck in bed in severe pain. Mt new dentist said the tooth had been dead for awhile and I have a severe infection. I saw the doc in February before I moved. And for the last year and a half complained about pain in my mouth and all he did was blow me off and tell me it was normal, well it wasn't. I had an abscessed tooth and a root canal that wasn't sealed properly, plus another tooth that he kept patching instead of fixing properly that turned into another root canal. The docs NEGLIGENCE has left me in pain for over a year and now i have to pay out an additional $9000 to get my mouth fixed. And yes, i had several opinions that all confirmed the doc destroyed my mouth. Instead of taking a few x-rays he ignored my concerns and blew me off. So now I am on more pain killers and antibiotics. Crowns are supposed to reach the gum line and not have a black line around it and are not supposed to have ragged edges. The doc should never have cemented it in my mouth, he should have had it redone. I didn't see it until it was too late. And as usual was told "that was normal", just like the pain I felt for over a year "that was normal". Completely negligent! If anyone wants to see a picture of the crown just ask me. Again, i have x-rays and dentist reports to PROVE that the doc was negligent and because of that i have been in pain for over a year and a half and now I have to pay about $9000 to get my mouth fixed after the doc destroyed it with his NEGLIGENT practice. read more

I was new to town and called the office manager Jennifer, and asked if they took my insurance. I further explained that I was actually covered under two dental plans (mine and my husbands). When I got to the office, she was very rude and actually would not make a copy of one of my insurance cards, which I found really odd. I just got my teeth cleaned that day (thank goodness) and later received a bill for the entire amount, $146. I called the office and she told me that I had no insurance! I asked her to please file it with one of my insurance cards that I had given her. She then said that the office is "in network" with NO insurance companies, so it would not matter which plan I had her use, the part of the bill that I would need to pay would be around $50. I have NEVER had to pay for a routine cleaning EVER, so I went into the office personally to ask her about this instead of trying over the phone. No luck, I got her same routine of being rude, laughing at me, asking if I knew how insurance works, on and on. Leave this place off of your list of local dentists! read more
