Follow the road around the pond and you'll find maps and a shelter, plus the trailhead to go north/upstream along the South Salado Creek Greenway Trail, part of the Howard W. Peak Greenway Trail System, towards Comanche Park and Covington Park. If you walk along the pond downstream, over the footbridge, you'll find a trail marker, a crosswalk, and a turnoff to a newer trail section of South Salado Creek. If you see a set of switchbacks, you know you're on the right path. This trail goes about 3 miles to a trailhead on Southeast Military Dr.

The trail runs into multiple little parks that have a playground and benches and whatnot and it parallels this cute little stream. Most of the trail is shaded by trees which made it nice to run in the heat. This is the first time I've been to the park and can definitely confirm there are alot of different birds here, including ducks. There was plenty of parking thankfully and not overly crowded when we came. The path itself was very easy and you basically walk around this big lake. They also do have plenty of seating around and saw many people there fishing. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was that there was alot of trash. Some parts of the trail were decent but you could still see the place isn't really kept up with cleaning which is a shame. Even on the path I saw this random bed spring that was kinda random. Overall it wasn't a bad park but wish they kept it cleaned up would have enjoyed it more.

However, we found so much debris and smell everywhere: mounds of clothing and trash that appears to have been piling up for some time. I see that there was an upgrade done to the park in 2017. Now in 2025, this once beautiful park seems to have been neglected and allowed to be a catchment for homeless people and people not interested in cleaning up after themselves. There was an obvious drug deal happening at one point on the path as well. We saw the volunteer park stewards on their bikes but wondering what input they have to help this poor park.

It features hundreds of trees and a scenic stream winding through the grounds, along with plenty of wildlife like ducks, geese, and vultures near the Joske Pavilion. There is tons of open space to lay out a blanket for a picnic, plus walking/running trails, baseball fields, a couple of playgrounds, plenty of tables and benches, and great paths for biking. It's wonderfully quiet in the mornings, making it the perfect in-town getaway.

After a short time of starting and stopping and finding the maps vandalized so I couldn't figure out where on the map we were, we gave up and walked down the street to Mila for coffee. I love that they have maps set up throughout, but every single one I stopped at had the "you are here" section scratched out. Not being from San Antonio, I couldn't orient myself. So that was a little problem. Otherwise, the area a lot of picnic areas set up for grilling and eating with plenty of space for play. You just might have to Hansel and Gretel your way out though.

It features the Espada Dam, an acequia system that diverts water from the San Antonio river. The park is a lovely place to picnic, take a walk, bike ride, or just hang out. There's a walking trail and it is very close to some of the San Antonio missions.

On this Sunday (April 26), there were many people in the park as it was a beautiful day. Grilling going on and large parties. Definitely more than the supposedly 5 max in a group mandate. The park police did not bother anyone that I saw, even the really large birthday parties. Good for them and the party-goers. The landscaping has been kept on the wild side, which is cool. Go there.

Get there before 11 and you'll find yourself a nice spot. Bring what you need and don't expect picnics tables or grills. No bathroom either. The drive under the bridge can be a little rough. Parking is limited and it can get packed. We left at 3 and the one lane road was difficult to maneuver with cars trying to go in and out. The river water was perfect. It's not clear, but it sure was refreshing. The river is shallow. Nice to sit on a tube or in a chair. They offer tubing, but I didn't try it. In the area we were at, there were a few ropes kids were jumping off from. Shade is limited.

After ending the tube ride at the designated ending spot it took them an hour to come and pick up. The office was a 5 minute drive away. It was over 100 degrees outside and about 15 people were all waiting on the side of the freeway to be picked up.

We rented a boat from her, she talked us through all the questions we had, she coached us where we needed help, and she did all that while we were out of town. We signed up to do the TWS and rented our boat from PWS and the service was awesome. We never would have done as good as we did if it weren't for her. If you are a first timer to running the TWS and, especially if you are going in coming in from out of town or are new to the sport, Holly will make your experience better.

Rockin'R River Rides had a nice set up. They do seem to nickel and dime you a bit. $15 for parking,…read more$25 for a cooler float tube which is what the going rate per person is. They have an air conditioned portable bathroom trailer that is decent. 6 stalls in the women's room and they were fairly clean. The summer heat had them smelling a little funky, but I'm not sure what can be done to fix that. The staff was friendly. The school bus ride back to the starting point after the float was nostalgic. For a moment, it took me back to feeling like we were on a school field trip. We definitely see ourselves coming back but at least bringing our own floats for our coolers to cut down on the expense. We had a large group with 2 coolers so it was $50 just to bring our coolers along.

They do have a decent size portable bathroom, which was nice. My only complaint is that they should keep the water on inside them a little longer. We got back to the beginning around 4:30 and went to use the bathroom before heading out, but the water was already turned off. The float itself was actually painful. There are SO many rocks that you constantly hit and scrape your rear end against, and it gets pretty uncomfortable after a while. I'm not sure if I'll be back to this location just because this particular section was so rocky. Overall, it was fun, but definitely bring some extra money and be prepared for a rocky ride!
