I must say this Office Max in Kahului has saved me a few times in avoiding to have to get into my rental car to drive to another place to buy some kind of electronic device, or supplies. I went to this particular Office Max store this past week, as I was working on a machine, and suddenly needed to buy a surge protector to protect my customer's new machine. Lucky for me, this Office Max was just a few doors down from where I was working so I decided to pop on in, hoping to find that surge protector. Lucky for me, I found what I was looking for, and I was in/out of this place in no time. The nice thing about walking into an Office Max is that I noticed the set up of this Kahului store looks exactly like the Office Max in town on Oahu. The copy and print center is the worst here. Terrible customer service. Waited at the counter for 35 minutes while 3 of them didn't come to ask if we needed help. They were just chilling and laughing in the back where the customers could see themWhen 1 finally came to the counter, they gave a lot of attitude and didn't want to print 1 file because she was "tired". Well I tried to do this the other day but I didn't have my blueprints available to access. They are open on a Sunday, and I needed 8 full size blueprints printed for a house. Big 24x36. Black n white. The nice tech worked out a way , beyond me, to get the pdf into s format she could accept. Boom, ten minutes later I paid. Service with Aloha Spirit. She could have told me no, it was complicated for some reason. But she worked it out. They were from my contractor. So she saved the day. Back this am for copies. Short run, under 25, you can do yourself. But you have to use your credit card. I m not inclined to use my credit card on a machine that could be hacked. Highly unlikely as mine has the chip. So I asked to pay by cash, and the rep agreed, for my reason, and ran my 5 copies. But, I had to be entered in the computer, More effort for her. But she acted with Aloha. So thank you. read more

I don't recommend this business because they don't automatically accept cash in order to fax. The customer must either us credit/debit or purchase their gift card to pay on their fax machine/printer/scanner. The issue I have is that I've utilized other office supply chains like Staples and the UPS STORE and I was naturally able to pay with cash . Not to get into details regarding my 30 page fax but because it was for a family matter we are using cash and the receipts to document purchases and it's best we not use our own cash or credit cards for purchases. I ended up using my debit card because I didn't want to be running around town searching for another office supplies store to fax this document. The other issue is they gave us the option to purchase a gift card in order to fax but if there is money left over from this fax project we are forced to finish spending the remaining money here at Office Depot. read more

I've used Office Max for various types of printing throughout the years. They've come through in a pinch when I've had last minute projects. I've had good experiences. In my last visit here, after my first time using Office Max's self printing service my copies came out skewed from the copier feeder. I was sorely disappointed and hadn't noticed until the job was completed. But my worries were for naught the staff at the Printing Services were understanding and helpful after I explained the situation. I am writing this about the Maui OfficeMax but assume this is how all of the their branches operate. If you do not pick up your online order within 7 days, they will cancel your order. I ordered a chair for my office on Maui but wasn't going to be there from Oahu until the following week. Upon arrival, I was informed my order was cancelled and my AmEx refunded. I asked the staff there how could I have informed them of my later pick up when the online process doesn't allow any messaging. They confirmed that it doesn't! Wanted to drop off a Fedex shipment instore and unfortunately experienced terrible customer service and a refusal to take my packages. I knew it was going to be a problem as I approached the Fedex desk and the 2 employees looked at me then one another and rolled their eyes :( They had zero customers apart from me. I was given a number of obvious excuses as to why they couldn't take my shipment....it had fragile written on the box.....they didn't have room to store it anywhere (is this an actual Fedex drop off point!!)...did it have glass in it because they can't ship glass....why couldn't I take it over to the Fedex shop off Alamaha, etc. They told me the Fedex shop opened at 12 noon and to go there instead, which I did, to find the Fedex shop didn't open on Sunday at all. They had refused me service and lied to get me out of the store. I'm furious that this is the level of customer service they are offering Fedex clientele. I came in looking for Post-it notes Evernote edition. A friend of mine mentioned that The Honolulu stores were running out. The first employee who offered to help me was wearing a McAfee polo shirt. I explained to him what it was and that I had looked in the area where Post-its were. Said he has never seen them before and I was okay with that. He did look in the area and said they have never seen that and then he radioed the employees and asked if any if them heard of it. I was standing at the counter nearest the registered and watched four employees respond with a No. I asked if there was a chance of them getting them in any time soon so I didn't have to order them and another employee (I will leave his name out) offered to help. The 2nd person who offered to help had to check his computer. When he came back, he stated that I may have to order them myself and that it would take 2 months for them to get it in. I thanked both of them for there help. When I came back about an hour later to shop for a new desk , I decided to peruse the isles for other supplies. I passed the the second employee who helped and said Hi and told him I was back for a desk, something like a drafting table and he said , " I just want you to know that we don't have anything like that , but let me know if you need anything". I said thank you again. Walked right passed him and found a whole kiosk display of the Evernote Post-its. I went to pay and saw the person with the McAfee shirt on in line paying for something and I said, " I lucked out and found the post-Its. ". He asked me where I found it and I told him. He said " oh" and them walked away. I have a feeling he was in management by the way the staff responded to him. Read my reviews. I rarely slam businesses and try to keep things factual and light. But it's hard to stomach poor customer service. I even had a picture of the product that I shared with them and they had no idea the product was in their store. Obvious disconnect. I wish they knew that my reason for wanting this product was to roll out a new organizational process that includes : The Getting Things Done strategy, Evernote application, and these Evernote Post-its for our National network/telephony center of excellence group that I oversee. I could have went through our National procurement department, but thought that going in to the store would have been a better idea even after having numerous problems in the past. Maui's original Office Max is still going strong. ATMOSPHERE: The store is laid out nicely and is clean. They're a full-service OM (printing, shipping, tech support, and shredding.) Parking is plentiful and close. INVENTORY: They have a full range of everything you could possibly need. Pricing is higher than Walmart for similar products, but you're better off buying it from here because it'll probably be in stock. They have a few office desks on display, with some looking like they'd be better off at Wally's than here. SERVICE: No one asked us if we needed help when we were checking out the desk sets. I have shopped at this Office Max for over 20 years. The store is always clean and well lit and it is usually fairly easy to find someone to help you. As a teacher, I often shop with a Purchase Order. Even though they are almost always large purchases (all the class supplies for a school year) and take extra time because of the paperwork involved, the cashiers are always friendly and more than happy to help when I tell them I have a purchase order. The floor staff is fairly knowledgeable about what they carry and if they aren't sure, they will ask someone who does. The store manager, Michael Mochizuki, is a kind and generous man who has helped our school in so many different ways. I have also been assisted by Michael when shopping many times. He is not the type of manager to sit in his office while his employees do all the work. He's right there in the trenches with them. The regular pricing can be a little spendy (welcome to Hawaii) but Office Max has good sales! Especially for back to school. With our ever shrinking budgets for our classrooms, this is greatly appreciated. Overall, this is a great place to shop. This place is terrible, they never have what you need. I asked an employee for a certain item and he didn't know what I was talking about. When you go through their computer/electronic section, there's barely anything worthwhile there. It's sad that Walmart and Target has more and better selection of computer equipment/accessories than an OfficeMax. As for that employee, terrible customer service. I haven't been to this location in years since I live in Lahaina and I've always gone to the one there (recently closed down), but I needed a new planner and I had no idea where they were. The first few minutes of me walking around, an employee asked if I needed help finding anything and she responded with the aisle number quickly! Evelyn at the print & copies department was awesome!! Had to get some invitations and other miscellaneous items printed for a baby shower, and while I did my online order I missed the area to have everything cut. When I received my call to let me know that my items were done printing, I had mentioned this to her and without hesitation she said it would be no problem to have that done. I was expecting that this may put a long delay on picking up my order, but it didn't! I was able to pick everything up very quickly. I also hadn't realized that this weekend was graduation weekend, so I'm sure they were very busy, but that didn't stop them from providing quick and efficient service. Like most of this stores customers, I use this place mostly for business related purchases. I make orders for my boss, do price checks, and try to locate products that we need. So here's some advice for people who don't want to waste their time: CALL BEFORE YOU GO TO THE STORE. Do not waste your time browsing or looking for a product here. It's quite disorganized. I went in today to purchase a office chair for my husband as a last minute gift. We both work for the same shop, so I ran out during my lunch to purchase it. When I found the chair I wanted to purchase, I asked if I could purchase the floor model since it was already assembled and I could just bring it right into work. I was told no. I even offered to pay more for the floor model, I was again told no. I was given the option to pay them $120 for them to assemble it. No way! My friend and I went in and bought a laptop and we saw some printers on display. When we asked to buy it the manager roger came out and was looking around for the power cord he could not find it. We then asked where we could by a power cord and he said nowhere and he then stated he would not even sell us the printer. The whole point of the store is to sell office supplies my friend just opened up a new business here and I have one already. We will not be going back to office max for supplies because of this. His demeanor was rude and not customer service oriented. On the other hand jamielee was incredibly nice and helpful that is the second time she has been my cashier and everytime it has been a pleasurable purchase experience.
