I went into Oglethorpe looking for a piece of art to take home while I was on vacation. Worst service I have ever had. Even when I said hello the woman behind the counter made no effort. Both ladies that were there acted as if they hated customers. The store was clean, very neat, and had some nice decorative things, but on the sign it says fine art and this was hardly the case. If your looking for fine art and good service there are better places in Meredith NH. read more

This is a fun shop. They offer a wide variety of gifts (though I want everything for myself!) that are beautiful, well made and unique. They have locally made snacks and wine too. read more

Oglethorpe Fine Arts & Crafts opened in May of 1994 and carries quality American handcrafted goods since our inception. Woodenware, iron, glass, fiber, jewelry, home décor and handcrafted local wines are just a few of our product lines. New in 2014 is our partnership with Hermit Woods Winery at 72 Main Street in Meredith...they make great wine and we are proud to supply their handcrafted wine related goods at their winery!

History

Established in 1994.

Our doors opened in May of 1994 in a small retail space at Mill Falls Marketplace and in the years since have expanded into what is now a 2000 square foot gallery promoting the works of over 500 American craftsmen.

Meet the Business Owner: Katheryn R.

Born and raised in the Lakes Region of NH with an appreciation of quality American Made products, I opened the business in May of 1994 and continue to offer crafts for use in our everyday lives. It is my opinion that a handcrafted gift, whether for yourself or someone else, is amongst the best gift you can give. Art to decorate your home, pottery for your dining experiences, jewelry and fiber for your wardrobe...my belief is to surround yourself with objects that will bring you joy every day and the "things" we purchase should be about quality and not quantity. Supporting the American Made movement is something I have done long before it was the popular thing to do and I am glad that the word is out and people are starting to pay attention to the importance of this!

I chose to make two ghosts. My daughter made a pumpkin and a ghost. Can't wait to see how these turn out. They will go in the kiln and we will return to paint them in a week or so, then they will fire them again. The class price included all that, which I think is a bargain! Our favorite shop in Meredith! Oglethorpe carries items all made in the USA. The sales staff is extremely personable and they happily take special orders. You'll find everything from exotic pottery, hand made wool clothing to unique wall decor. We can spend an hour in this shop and still not see everything. They welcome children by the hand (some breakable items) and small dogs tucked under your arm. Very welcoming sales staff which is how all retail stores should be. read more
