The seats are extremely uncomfortable, the shows are decent and the prices are good compared to larger venues. The parking can be a hassle if you're not there super early, the lot fills up fast and then you're stuck either parking half a mile away in the municipal parking lot or fighting for street parking. There is one single bar and there is constantly a line.

Twice a week in July and August, the Portsmouth Underbelly Tour starts at The Rusty Hammer and winds its way through Portsmouth, exploring the past in a way that's suitable only for adults. The tour is conducted by Hilda and Silas, in costume as a Tavern Wench and a spy. If you're visiting Portsmouth with people from work, realize that this tour is NSFW. You'll visit the locations of old bordellos and eventually conclude the tour at the stone penises of Prescott Park (which each have a name), and you'll love every minute of it. Hadn't been to a show here in quite a while, so it was time!…read moreOur previous experiences have been attending evening performances, but this time we did a Saturday matinee. We didn't purchase our tickets until the day before, but had no problems getting good seats. We arrived about a half hour early to pick up our tickets at will call and since it was a very cold, windy day didn't want to venture back outside to wait so purchased a glass of wine in the lobby and went into the actual theater to find our seats. Very friendly ushers escorted us to our assigned seats which were in the center with great views of the stage. The theater is small so there are really no bad seats as far as being able to see. Unless you are able to get an aisle seat, you will be very close to your neighbor and don't wear a big bulky coat because you will be very squished trying to keep it on your seat. Leg room isn't great, but not the worse either. Shows are always well performed and the price for tickets is more than reasonable. Beverages and some snacks are available in the lobby and you can take them into the theater. It is a great place to go if you are in the area!

It is right next to downtown Portsmouth and watching the sunset overlooking the docks is breathtaking. I love how Prescott Park holds a different musical every summer. It is free, but donations are suggested to support the arts! This is a great place to go during the summertime. I look forward to the different musicals they put on every summer! I would suggest bringing your own lawn chairs for comfortable seating. It's fairly expensive to rent a table/chairs. Also arrive about an hour early for the best seats!

There are special performers every Friday and Saturday night, hosted by EJ Garlands. Friday and Saturday night shows are outside on a large, lovely deck at the (Kennebunkport) Inn. These are dinner shows, with a delicious menu of choices served by the in house restaurant (The Burleigh). On Sunday, there is a more intimate cabaret performance by EJ and his pianist Carmine in the lounge from 4-7. Every performance I have attended throughout this series has been excellent, completely engaging and with wonderful talent! Every meal I have had here has been quality as well and when you put the two together, it makes for a pretty spectacular summer evening. I 100% suggest checking out Club Cumming on the Coast before their final weekend in October. Hopefully, this series will return next summer, fingers crossed!
