I will ask him if he wants to go to the groomer he gets excited. They are very quick but do a good job. On Maui it is not easy finding a good groomer as i have had several over the years and they move or go out of business and I don't like taking my dogs to the big box stores. I prefer to give my money to smaller local business. Every time I go these guys are friendly and always in a cheerful mood and they take good care of my fur baby. I am definitely going to take my baby back for other services. I usually wash him but have considered taking him for a bath or a flea bath as I don't always have as much time on my hands. I highly recommend these folks because they do a good job and are not too expensive. The only thing is I wish they were closer as I live in haiku and it is a drive as they are located in Happy Valley.

To be clear, this review is limited to my observations at the dog evaluation. I can't speak to the…read moreactual boarding service. The owner met our dog and said she wouldn't take him. There is only one of her, and he has a lot of energy so this is understandable. However, her attitude and some of her training methods left me very concerned. My dog is terrified of everything. He is the type of Scooby-Doo dog who will leap in your arms if he hears a strange noise. He is also very weary of new people but has been socialized with other dogs under professional supervised settings his entire life, with no issue. Naturally when he first saw the owner he started to bark. Before I even had a chance to calm him down, she stated that he displayed "alpha" tendencies. This was within the first 30 seconds of meeting him. I attempted to explain that we have worked extensively with a trainer with a doctorate in animal psychology and that was not her assessment at all, but she ignored me, saying "he needs training." She then started talking about how he needs a bark collar. Admittedly these aren't shock collars, but between her use of the term "alpha", the discussion of a bark collar and her comment about "no treats" it suggests to me that her ideas of training are very different from mine. I prefer positive reinforcement, and tools like treats or toys the dog will enjoy, to inspire confidence and trust. Our dog did get to meet the other dogs, and aside from one time when he sharply barked once at another dog, and another time when he was starting to growl while initiating play (totally common in dogs, even Labradors) she freaked out. The owner proceeded to state blatant lies about how German Shepherds are the #1 biters (they're not, Chihuahuas are). As a person who has owned German Shepherds for over 30 years, I take great umbrage at her comments, not to mention that my current dog has no German Shepherd in him whatsoever. TLDR: If the owner didn't want to board our dog, that's fine. But to treat him like a red zone case ready to attack was not okay.

My poodle mix rescue needed a full groom and I didn't have time to trek into Wailuku to my usual…read moregroomer so I called Catherine to see if she could fit him into her schedule. Easy to text and arrange. Unfortunately due to an unexpected family emergency I had to cancel and she was understanding of the situation. So, I rescheduled a few weeks later and again she was very happy to try another date and time and give me a 2nd chance. Catherine is a mobile groomer, she has a setup on the back of her truck with a grooming table, etc. She bathed our boy in our kitchen sink (we have a huge one specially for washing our dogs!) and took him out to her truck to do the fluff n scissoring. I was a bit uncertain about him being in our driveway on a busy street as he is a bolter, especially without a collar on, but Catherine kept him safe the whole time. I asked that his face was kept to a rounded puppy look with short ears and she did a really nice job. I also requested she shave his paws, the first time we have tried this, since sand and plant matter are always stuck to his fur and he chews away at his paws after every walk. He looked odd to begin with having never had poodle paws, but it is beginning to grow on me and I think it is going to make a huge difference to him. He looks like he has had a pawdicure....hahahaha. His nails are nicely trimmed and the fur perfectly shaved around each toe pad. A great job on a dog who doesn't like his feet touched! Catherine was kind and careful with my soul puppy, and he was happy to be with her, which isn't always the case with groomers in his past. If you are looking for a groomer for a dog who doesn't like the car, or going to a grooming salon, is older, younger or you are house bound this is the groomer for you. The groom was $75 which is the going rate on the island for salon groomers. I had actually expected the groom to be more expensive so I was pleasantly surprised. She took the time to ask questions- take a full history of medical problems and allergies and likes and dislikes before hand and spent the time with me which was very appreciated. She was in no rush and just did a phenomenal job! My dog looks and feels gorgeous! She didn't get shaved to the bone for no reason as the Bubble Wash people did and she returns calls quickly and is available and accommodating unlike Allison of Pawsitively Purrfect. Dr Knee did a great job of explaining the possible reasons of my cat's problem ear, discussing options as well. He gave him a steroid shot and had his ears cleaned by the tech. What I really liked about him is he asked to first sit and discuss the issues before pulling my cat out of carrier. So many times at other veterinary places they often do all the talking while the cat is just sitting there on exam table acting nervous! I felt it was a very thorough exam and the pricing is about the same as other veterinarian offices. He was very personable and professional. I am glad to have found a new vet doctor for my cat. He met us with such an incredibly great attitude Every time we spoke and always was willing to go above and beyond to submit paperwork and answer any questions we had. A friend and I decided to have an adventure with a MHS doggo. An afternoon walking on the beach,…read moresnoozing in the sand, enjoying the quiet and the sun, and having a bite of Mexican food and a pup cup before returning to the noisy and overcrowded shelter. Our doggo for the day was JT, a smaller black pitbull mix, who turned out to be a real gentleman. JT was happy to join us in our adventure, jumping into the SUV like a pro with a stuffy in his mouth and a wag in his tail, which matched our vibe exactly :) He was such a good boi at the restaurant, ignored the chickens begging from us and took a quick nap under a chair, waiting for a shrimp or a morsel of chicken to be offered from the gods. JT jumped for joy when he exited the car and smelled the sea air, life is good! We had a leisurely stroll along the sands, then he plonked himself down in the shade of a tree to destroy a tennis ball, then sploot out and have a nice snooze with a sandy nose and a smile on his furry face. We gave him a good hour, as it must have been a nice break from the noise of the shelter, with the trade winds gently cooling him and the murmur of the waves in the background. Once he woke up he was ready for the next part of the journey.....a pup cup from Starbucks :) In and out of the SUV like the pro he is, he waited patiently at the outdoor table with our friend while I sourced the pup cup. He wasn't sure for a second what it was then after his first lick he became a connoisseur of pup cups with a creamy smile and a glint in his eye. After a lot of lip licking and grooming we realised it was time to return him to the shelter. Once there he gave us a downward dog bow of thanks and he was off to his hopefully temporary home at MHS. What an adventure for all of us, and so enjoyable! If you have time to take a MHS dog out for the afternoon (12 noon pickup, 4pm dropoff), please, go on an adventure and give them a pup cup and some beach freedom, go jogging with them, take them on a drive and let them sniff the smells of Maui, give them a mini vacation. MHS provide a backpack with everything your doggo will need, blankie, stuffie, chew toy, treats, water and bowl, a safety belt addition for your car. All you have to do is provide a vehicle, time and fun! JT was a lovely boi, very well behaved, and he was a good example of a MHS dog. Unfortunately black dogs are the last dogs in the shelters to be adopted, I know I adopted one myself (I have 2 rescue bois at home), so hopefully there is someone out there waiting to meet JT and see what a fantastic doggo he is....could it be you? Why not spend some time with a MHS doggo and find out?

Holly is the kindest, sweetest, most patient and understanding groomer I've ever met and I've been…read morea dog owner for most of my life. I drive my bulldog 40 minutes there and back and trust me when I say I would not usually make that kind of trek but for Holly, I'm more than happy to! She takes excellent care of my dog-son, he's always so visibly pleased to see her though he tends to be a bit timid usually but he already knows her and feels at ease coming to the grooming location. The grooming in itself is truly the best he's ever had (he spent the first four years of his life in the Bay Area and has seen quite a few skilled groomers). Both are energetic "real dogs" and love hiking and the outdoors. They are our babies; the children of our family. I could not be happier to have found such a gem of a kennel! Regular walks and schedule, lots of love and attention, a HUGE kennel with plenty of space and all the comforts for our dogs to enjoy. We bring food and treats for the stay and their favorite toys. WMK sent us videos and pictures of our dogs walking and hiking regularly during our trip. They always look happy. We can tell that they are very well taken care of. It is always a worry free trip for us because we think of our dogs every day and wonder what are they up to and hope they are ok. Our dogs get excited when we are driving up the road to drop them off. They are super happy to see us, but admit, they also get a bit sad to have left doggie camp.
