I really Like these guys, i have taken my dog here several times. It is usually on Sunday and they have a walk in special on nail trimmings. You don't need a reservation for nail trimming or other selection services. They open at 10 AM on Sunday's so it makes it convenient to take my dog in, he loves going to see these guys. I will ask him if he wants to go to the groomer he gets excited. They are very quick but do a good job. On Maui it is not easy finding a good groomer as i have had several over the years and they move or go out of business and I don't like taking my dogs to the big box stores. I prefer to give my money to smaller local business. Every time I go these guys are friendly and always in a cheerful mood and they take good care of my fur baby. I am definitely going to take my baby back for other services. I usually wash him but have considered taking him for a bath or a flea bath as I don't always have as much time on my hands. I highly recommend these folks because they do a good job and are not too expensive. The only thing is I wish they were closer as I live in haiku and it is a drive as they are located in Happy Valley. read more

Brought Josie here for a bath. This place is located in Happy Valley. We were greeted immediately when we entered. I made an appointment ahead of time so they were expecting us. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. There were some loose dogs in the grooming area but Josie gets along fine with other dogs. She got a bath, ears cleaned, and nails trimmed. They even put a cute bandana around her neck when she was done. She was there for about an hour and the fee was reasonable ($45). We'll be back soon! read more

Took my poodle mix in for a groom again to clean up his paws and face and they did a good job, not as great as his last groom as the back of his head was not graduated, but still good. It is easy to book, and they are very quick which means my pup isn't in a crate all day. My dogs don't do well at the groomers. One was banned from Petco because they claimed he bites (which he has never done.. EVER) so I'm assuming it was them being rough with him. I ended up taking him to Chloe at Bigg Waggle and she and her staff were able to wash, dry, groom and trim his nails without being bitten at all. (He also hates cutting his nails). I have gone back numerous times because they are so professional and they really care about your fur babies. 100% recommend them to anyone! read more

I'm a long time Petco client when it came to taking my English Cocker spaniels to get groomed on Oahu and Maui however today when I called to try and make an appointment the person who answered the phone was very rude and unhelpful. I've been wanting to find another groomer for a while now for reasons that I will put in Petco's review. After doing some research on Yelp I came across this groomer and read the great reviews. When I called I spoke to the owner and Nicole and I was very lucky to get a same day appointment - she was very helpful and accommodating! When I arrived to drop off my dogs I immediately felt like I was in a comfortable, family owned business and when I peaked my head into the grooming section the two groomers sweetly said hello with a smile and let me be nosey to take a look around. If you're a dog owner I think you can agree that our pets are like family and we want to ensure we are dropping them off and putting them into the hands of people who care and know what they're doing. Nicole and her team seem to be those kind of people from first impressions. Since I was a new client I took just a few minutes to provide some information and talk about how I wanted my dogs to be groomed and Nicole knew exactly what I was talking about and made the process very simple. The prices are great and I've already scheduled my next appointment with Nicole and her team. Also I should know that when I picked up my dog they didn't have the same feeling of wanting to run out of there and have nothing to do with the groomers like when I picked them up from Petco. We love Salty Dog! Angie and her crew are great with my Keeshond, Tully. He knows when we're going, gets all excited when we're close. I've had some bad experiences with two groomers in the past, but I feel like Tully's in great hands when he's at Salty Dog! Kees have a lot of long fur, lots of places cut corners to get the dogs out fast, but he's always very well groomed and brushed after an appointment, lots of attention to detail. On our last visit, they found a small lump under the skin on the back of his ear- called me right away to let me know. I don't know how I could have missed such a thing, but I'm glad they found it, and he's booked into the vet next week for a look. My very first experience with a dog groomer. I called Petco first but they would only offer my puppy a bath. I found Salty dog on Yelp and gave them a call. Nicole was able to fit me in the next week. When we dropped off our Luka, a 5 month old shitzu, Nicole greeted us and gently held Luka and gave him a friendly greeting. She was honest with what could be done because it was Luka's first time. When I picked him up he looked great. She was able to get more of a cut than she expected. My next appointment is already booked. Also when I called Petco last week to cancel my appointment, they couldn't even find my appointment. Good thing I didn't show up! We took our two King Charles Cavaliers to Salty Dog about a week ago for their very first grooming. After reading reviews on Yelp we decided to go here. As soon as we walked in in, Nicole greeted us, came out to meet Kash & Kruz, she asked questions regarding their grooming, if there's anything she should avoid doing & just took that time to make us feel comfortable leaving our fur babies in her care. Finally found our groomer on Maui. Not only does owner Nichole LOVE animals, she is a trained vet tech and behaviorist. My girls came out unstressed, clean, anal gland on one expressed (because I asked to do them only if necessary) and trimmed nails. I paid almost as much to a vet to trim the nails as this whole grooming cost and they (the vet) cut off so little that it was almost useless. Being the former owner of Salty Dog Pet Grooming Salon, and because of recent posts, I , Georgia Norton felt it was best to clarify changes relating to Salty Dog. We agreed upon the terms of the sale in April, and part of the agreement was a 6 week transfer period in which Nicolle worked with me to learn my clients dog's cuts and also about how I ran my business. The transfer of the business took place during the third week of May 2014. I knew Nicolle from the animal related community here on Maui. She is a veterinary technician for SPCA Maui cat clinics, and has also volunteered at Maui Humane Society in their surgery department. Nicole has been involved in dog related activities (eg: training, pet sitting, rescue, fostering & grooming) for the past 15 years. Moving to Maui about 2 years ago, she first opened a pet sitting service, and purchasing Salty Dog Pet Grooming Salon was intended to expand her pet related businesses & to offer more services for her clients. In selling my salon to Nicolle, I knew she did not have the 20+ years of grooming experience like myself. But working with her, I saw her care for the dogs, how she did her best to style the pet as the client wanted, and learn best how to run the business. Her care of the dogs and customer service is important to her Every groomer grooms a little differently and its just like going to a new hairdresser. You're lucky if you get the cut you want without a little trim here or there after the original styling. I talk frequently to Nicole and am still providing grooming advise on specific clients when she has questions during this transition period. I know Nicole would ideally like to add a "seasoned" groomer to her staff but the reality is that there is a shortage of groomers on the island. In the meantime she is striving to service all of my old clients and make them them happy even though she does not have my experience as well as create new "old" clients of her own. Needless to say, I felt Nicolle would do her best to please my clients and take care of their pets. I made mistakes in grooming, all groomers do. The important point is that your pet is handled with care, and with time all groomers improve and learn how to please their clients better and run their business better. Finally there is a post from Victor M. who feels his dog might have been harmed while at Salty Dog. The post was created while I was still owner and six weeks before Nicole took over so should not reflect on her at all. read more

I went to this groomer four times. The first two times was with my older rescued Bichon. The owner/groomer was pleasant but berated me about my dog --mind you she knew little about the abuse it had suffered but my dog seemed to tolerate and the job was done well. With not many choices on Maui I tried again with my new Shih Tzu. He was brushed & combed out BEFORE going the first time and was given a nice puppy cut by the assistant. HOWEVER! the second time was an AWFUL experience. Not only did the owner berate me for not brushing him out before getting there, she got upset when I asked for a suggested length of hair. Highly recommended! I took my 2 Lhasa Apsos in for the first time and was very pleased with the atmosphere and attitude at the salon. I have developed health issues and I can no longer groom my dogs myself as I had before. Their condition was very poor when I brought them in and I was feeling super guilty. Nicole did not make me feel badly at all and got them shaved down for a "new start". She also helped me set them up on a schedule that will fit our new lifestyle requirements.
