My dad had been going to Ohana to maintain the pool at my childhood house growing up, my aunt had been going here for hers, and now that my fiancee and I have a pool of our own, we've been coming here ever since. Matt and his team are great! I am not as well versed in pool maintenance and it was intimidating at first, but Matt has always been patient with me, answered any questions I had, and anytime our pump acted up, he made sure someone came over right away to check things out. I also bought a "pool robot" from Ohana to help keep our pool clean and when we found out it was a lemon, Matt helped us replace it ASAP. I would definitely recommend this place! read more

I have extended a great deal of grace to Ohana over the past decade but this last year or two has seriously and irreparably damaged my trust in them. I no longer have faith that as a business they care about their customers. It started several years ago when I needed sand for my filter. Fortunately, I had the documentation that I ordered sand, and not the expensive glass medium, that Matt told his pool technicians to put in my filter. When they tried to charge me for the expensive medium, I told them I did not order that as I wanted sand. Thankfully, I could prove that Matt had told them incorrectly. An honest mistake, I thought? Now not so sure. Last year, when I paid them $350 to open my pool, much to my chagrin, I had a leak and had no water, and I required a new liner. The billed me $200 for a "failed opening." This is on top of the $350 that I already paid. I went same day, check in hand, and spent close to $10K on a new liner. Matt was nice as can be while I wrote the check and ordered the liner. This was in May. He said that I would likely have it installed in a month or so. The "or so" ended up being mid-July. I get it. They are busy and I tried to be patient. But when the installers used the wrong electrical plug for the pump, (I told them to use the dedicated plug for the pool, which they did not and I had to leave while they were finishing up the pool), they kept blowing the circuit breaker. When I returned home, my pool was not running. When I called Matt, he said "well, they tried and your electrical wasn't working." I reminded him that they failed to use the dedicated plug and I needed Ohana to get my pool opened. He tried to tell me to just do it myself, but I insisted that they had already now charged me $550 for an opening and I wanted them to open it. He sent out a technician who got the job done. I miss Xavier as he recently left and he was one of the reasons that I kept returning to Ohana as I felt I could trust him. My pool was up and running and it was great. Fast forward to this year's spring opening, when new technicians came, two of the liner bead locks had fallen out. I asked if they should get them back in now and they said no, they would do it at closing. Within two weeks, I noticed that not only was the liner pulling away and air was behind it in two of the corners, but now I had massive wrinkling in the liner. Also, from the screws installed on the skimmer and return, rust was now forming on the liner. I immediately texted Matt, and sent pictures. I asked if they had used marine screws and he said they used the right screws, and that my water needed balanced. Mind you, I come nearly every week for a pool sample test. I asked if he could consult with the installers, and he said that he would. But after a week, and no response, I went to Ohana and asked for him. He came to front desk and rudely stated that it was a busy time and that I should send more pictures, which I did. Still after a week, no response and so I went back. As soon as Matt saw me, he turned and went into another room. I sent messages on their service request website, I have emailed/texted Matt, the owner Dave Spillers, and the Operations Manager, Megan Spillers. No response. I have gone back to the store and asked for Megan to call me. No response. It is coming up to a year since installation and they care less about my liner. They have already pocketed my money. I agree with another reviewer that the treatment that women customers receive is appalling, especially from Matt. He is condescending, dismissive and avoidant, (and sometimes even verbally aggressive as if the customer is always to blame, and never Ohana) especially when it comes to addressing concerns. All I wanted was the installer to confirm to me that the liner was secure and that my investment was safe for the amount of time that a liner should last. I take good care of my pool, I try to be a loyal and patient customer, but have learned very unfortunately, that Ohana is not the type of business that I will ever use again. read more

worst service I have ever received from any business in my entire life. Called in October of 2023 to have my hot tub repaired. It is now May of 2024 and Ohana has still not done anything. Keep getting the runaround by Matt. Do not buy anything from Ohana Pools and Spas in Urbana. read more

I contacted Matt in April 2020 to get a quote on a replacement above ground pool. He had my address, phone number and email address. Never heard one word from Ohana, never got a quote. This makes it obvious to me that they don't want or need my business. Will never contact them again. read more

If you are looking for an above ground pool, this is definitely not the place to go. They installed our pool incorrectly. Matt never fixed the situation. The installers left screws inside the pool to rust and cigarette butts in our yard. Our pool didn't even last 5 years. My advice is buyer beware. We threw over $6000 down the drain for a crappy job. I would never recommend Ohana to anyone. Matt will smile in your face but he won't do crap when it comes to fixing a problem. We even brought pictures in to him to show how screwed up the installation was. He never did anything about it. Poor customer service. If I could rate a zero I would. read more

I checked every hot tub seller from Champaign and even some surrounding cities. when it came down to it I trusted Matt at Ohana pools and spas most. I was very indecisive for a couple of months leading to my purchase and he helped me through the entire process even when maybe I seemed to be a pest. He was patient, friendly and most of all not pushy. He has an established, reputable business. Another reason I chose Ohana was their service. He has several helpful staff technicians there everyday to fix problems if one were to arise. He sent three gentlemen to my house just to install the tub and even sent them back later that day to install a cover lift arm for me because I decided last minute I needed one. (P.S Get one if you buy a hot tub.) He also does free water samples and it was obvious he has a large following from how many people came in and got water samples while I was in his store. If you are thinking of buying a pool or hot tub, check this place out. They don't act like salesman here. They just help you in the right direction and genuinely want you to be happy. One last pointer. They sell hot springs brand and from every person I've talked to including hours of online research says that hot springs is above all. read more

I recently used this company to open my pool for the summer. I paid $250 due to the size of the pool and the amount of debris that was in my pool due to my cover falling off in the early spring, Something that I mentioned in my initial phone call with Matt. I was told that I was going to pay more than a normal opening due to the debris. There is still a large amount of debris at the bottom. The only difference between the before and after is the color of the water. It went from a river green to a light blue. I do not believe this was done to Ohana standard. I used this company due to the referrals given to me by friends that have used Ohana before and sadly I am highly disappointed. I have spent the last 2 hours myself still taking leaves out of a pool. The gentleman that came to do the work was DJ. He said he dumped algaecide and chlorine in the pool. His instructions were to fill up the pool with water, turn on the pump and filter, run for 24 hrs and then bring them a water sample. They spent MAYBE 2 hrs here. That's what I paid $250 for? I could have bought algaecide myself for a cpl of bucks and did the same work they did. I just spoke with Matt again and he said for them to come back out it's an additional $80/hr to finish scooping the leaves out. I feel like I was lied to. Told one thing and now they want more money to finish a job they said they were going to do to begin with. So disappointed with them. I will be definitely going elsewhere from now on for alll my pool needs. read more

What a horrible experience. I will never refer this company to anyone.They've already lost 3 customers after I've told my story. We bought a 27' above ground pool from them and let them know our concerns that we already had an exisiting deck from a previous pool. They assured us there would be no problems. Not only did they not show up on the day they said they would to install the pool, they didn't even call to let us know -- they just didn't show up! So much for me taking a day off work to be there. Then when they did finally show up to install the pool they didn't even ATTEMPT to line up the angle of the pool with the angle of the deck. When we brought it to the installation crew's attention, they said "they were sorry and they wished they would have paid better attention and gone up on the deck to check the placement and that it was unfortunately installed incorrectly." We now have to pull off boards from our deck to fix their carelessness. The manager kept saying "we don't do deck work" and "it would have never fit anyway". I wish we could have at least seen what an attempt to make it fit would have looked like. We never asked for deck work --- just for the installers to attempt to line angles. Unbelievable. After trying to resolve these issues with the Manager, Matt Helmick, he would talk down to us and at one point even said "10-4" and hung up on my husband. How are they even still in business? I even took pictures of the installation problems and emailed it to the manager -- for instance the posts that are sitting on concrete blocks and are half off the blocks --- and they won't take any responsibility for it. The manager, Matt Helmick, says "well they're on the blocks aren't they" What kind of company is this? They don't care how they install your pool. They just do it and make the customer deal with it. Their customer service is horrible and don't even treat you as a paying customer. We were not even left with instructions on the steps to take after our pool was installed. As a new pool owner, that would have been nice. We were just left in the dark and it wasn't until three days later that we got a phone call from Ohana and they said they just "figured" we would have brought in a water sample. Instructions would have been nice. We went to Cardinal Pool for our chemicals and they gave us printed step-by-step instructions. Our business will stay with Cardinal Pool. read more
