Review for Emily Schultz When I learned I was pregnant with my second baby, I felt a calling to have a homebirth with as little intervention as possible. I knew nothing about what this entailed, as none of my family or close friends have had one before. My husband was hesitant. That all changed when we interviewed Emily. After our initial consultation with Emily, we were "all in". After each prenatal appointment, we few more and more confident in our decision to birth this baby on our own terms and with Emily by our side. The lengthy appointments in her cozy home office were something we looked forward to each month, even with an hour long commute. We would drive twice that far to see her if we had to! Not once did we feel judged for asking questions. We were given a plethora of information and encouraged to make our own choices for our baby. No pressure or agenda. Emily cares so very deeply about her clients. During my pregnancy, I encountered some small issues such as a partial placenta previa, minor anemia, and a positive GBS result. Emily knew exactly what to do in every scenario and navigated each with ease. In early labor, Emily texted and checked-in constantly. Once my water broke, she sped to my house and put me on speaker phone while she drove so that I didn't feel overwhelmed. Once she arrived and I was in transition, I felt a wave of peace overcome me, unlike anything I had felt with my first. Everything was set up quickly and after pushing for 15 minutes in the birth pool, my baby boy arrived. I was never worried. I was never truly scared. Because we were in the best hands with Emily! After delivery, my husband and I got to snuggle with our precious newborn and not worry about anything else, while Emily and her team cleaned up. The house was left sparkling. They even changed the sheets on our bed, ran laundry, and helped me shower. I credit Emily's phenomenal prenatal and postnatal care as the reason why I feel so wonderful so quickly after having my son. At 3 weeks postpartum, I'm already back on my feet, and my hormones feel much more balanced this time around. I've also gained a newfound confidence in myself and as a mother. I can't thank Emily enough for this gift she has given me and our family. Reach out to Emily if you feel the call to birth your baby naturally and in the comfort of your home. I promise it will change your life!

Where do you even begin when it comes to describing Emily? She is literally the most incredible human being! She is so patient, kind, gentle, encouraging, and truly the most down to earth person I've ever met! From the first prenatal visit to delivery (and beyond) you will be so very taken care of! This was my third birth but first home birth! And because of her, I was able to have a beautiful birth at home! She makes me want to have several more babies because of the care she provides! If you're unsure if you can do a home birth mentally and physically, with Emily cheering you on, you most definitely can! My labor lasted a total of a little over 5 hours and I firmly believe if it weren't for Emily it would've been so much longer. My contractions started at 7 am and died down within an hour after I took a shower. Emily came to my house a few hours later to see if we could have my contractions become more consistent. She suggested I get on hands and knees for 10 contractions and on the 10th contraction my water broke. Within 27 minutes my sweet baby boy was in my arms! Emily had to assist a little more than usual as baby's head was facing my thigh and his shoulders were stuck. She simply had me get out of the tub and within a minute she had him out and he was perfect! I will forever feel confident with the care Emily provides and the knowledge she has!

This was my second home birth with Emily Schultz. I can't express what a wonderful experience it is to have her as a midwife. From prenatal care to postpartum care and everything in between she makes you feel safe and taken care of. Her knowledge and expertise is absolutely priceless. The team she brings to help is just as amazing. With this birth I had some excessive bleeding after and they seemingly solved the problem before I knew there was one. Emily sweetly and patiently talked me through everything they might need to do and asked for my consent every step of the way. Some of my amniotic sac was still in my uterus causing it to continue bleeding. Once she got it out, my body started working to stop the bleeding. Emily and the team stayed with me until they knew I was safe. I feel extremely blessed to have had such a wise and caring group of ladies there to help me through it. I would choose them time and time again.

We chose Emily as our midwife for our second baby (first homebirth) and I am so glad we did! With a history of high blood pressure and being induced I really wanted someone who could help me have the healthiest pregnancy possible, and Emily was the perfect choice. I was able to have a very easy pregnancy with no complications, and a beautiful homebirth where Emily and her assistant were calm, helpful but not overbearing, and made me feel very confident in being at home. I will truly miss our visits and hope to have Emily as my midwife for any future births:) read more

I don't even know where to start with how much I genuinely adore this woman. Trust me when I say that there is no better midwife around. This woman is not only personable and kind, but she is also incredibly knowledgeable and experienced as a midwife and sound in her medical understanding of birth and prenatal care. Do yourself a favor, and pray to God that she is available to take you on as a client! Even if you live an hour away, I promise you, she's worth the "inconvenience." Emily is so thorough in her care and so genuine in her compassion for you as a person. She easily became one of my favorite people on this planet. Unsure or uneducated about midwifery? Don't know much about homebirth? No problem. Just book her already. read more

Having Emily Schultz as my midwife was truly an amazing experience from start to finish. This was my third birth, but my first home birth and first time working with a midwife -- and I can confidently say, I couldn't have asked for a better guide through this journey. From our very first meeting, it was clear that Emily views pregnancy and birth with a deeper, more holistic perspective than a traditional OB. When I mentioned past hormone issues, she immediately had a thoughtful plan and ensured we monitored everything closely with lab work and had a solution ready if needed. I felt truly seen and cared for. Staying in contact with Emily was incredibly easy. She was always responsive, open, and supportive -- I never once felt like I was a burden or just another appointment on her calendar. Even in the final days before birth, when her schedule was packed and I was still working full-time, she made sure I felt prioritized. She kept me updated, was flexible when needed, and never made rescheduling stressful. On the day of the birth, she was in constant contact and headed over as soon as I felt ready. The birth itself was absolutely magical. I felt empowered, in control, and safe -- all because Emily was by my side. She brought such a calm, steady presence that allowed me to focus fully on the experience. Since giving birth Tuesday evening, Emily has checked in multiple times, making sure I'm recovering well and feeling supported. Honestly, I feel like I hit the jackpot having her as my care provider -- and even more than that, I feel like I've made a lifelong friend. Emily is a true angel. She genuinely cares about the people she serves, and you're never just a number to her. Anyone lucky enough to work with her is in the absolute best hands. read more

Emily is nothing short of a dream come true. Three years ago, Emily became our midwife for our first child, and she was the first person to know (other than my husband) when I got pregnant with our second. Having her as a guide, a wise woman, and a midwife is a transformational experience. Not only is she expertly trained and knowledgeable about women's bodies, birth, and babies, but she also holds space for her clients and allows them to open up with a vulnerable heart. If you're looking to have a birth experience where you can completely surrender, Emily is the midwife for you. Never once in both births did I fear for my safety or my baby's because I trusted Emily with my entire being. I wish every woman could experience midwifery care in this way. Additionally, the postpartum support and care you receive from Emily is so comforting. She cares so deeply for her clients and you feel it in the way she communicates and supports you as you heal and adjust. read more

This was our second time working with Emily. It was a no brainer to go back to her once finding out I was pregnant again. From the second you meet her, it's obvious that Emily is not only extremely gifted, but doing what she was made to do. From start to finish, she made us feel safe, heard, and valued. I wish every woman was able to receive this type of care during pregnancy and postpartum. It is the best investment we have ever made. read more

For anyone who is unsure about home births, Emily is the one to go with! She is so amazingly knowledgeable. She takes such good care of everyone in the process! Not to mention whilst being a full time mom, wife and small business owner! She does it all; wears all the hats and puts 110% in. Emily also has such a wonderful team and resources. For my third birth with midwives, she has been the only one whom I felt a connection and such comfort with. She is and forever will be part of our family! 20/10 recommend to everyone! My experience did not go as planned. I will start by saying this would have been my third home birth and I had dreamed of having one with Emily but it took up 3 years and two rounds of IVF to get pregnant. We were on our last embryo and last try when our miracle finally happened! Emily was the first person I messaged and she was just as excited as we were! She was absolutely incredible and supportive through my pregnancy and offered so much help and suggestions because we ended up with HG then ended up with a PICC line for hydration (placed at the hospita). Then one night I got super sick with the shakes and so I called her and she immediately knew it was out of her scope and sent us to get it checked out. I ended up sepsis which turned into septic shock due to my PICC line. This resulted in our baby coming via emergency c section at 31 weeks. Even through all of this she has been there every step of the way. I cannot recommend her enough. Thank you so so much read more

Emily is absolutely AMAZING! After being told I needed to have a c-section from my care provider due to the complications of my first pregnancy. I decided to switch providers late in my pregnancy, which was the best decision I could've made for myself. From the in depth hour long appointments talking about risks and how to prevent them to answering all of my questions & concerns via text to setting up and cleaning up my home birth (including starting a load of laundry and making sure I had a nice postpartum set up in the bathroom with everything I needed). She's genuinely concerned about how you are doing postpartum too, I get text asking how nursing is going and how I'm feeling and it's just nice to know someone is listening. I ended up having the best birth imaginable with no complications. Emily and her students were great and I cannot thank them enough!! read more

I don't even know where to begin. To be completely transparent, I went into care with Emily a little nervous that she was too good to be true. I'm so happy to report that she is absolutely as kind and warm and welcoming as everyone says and I was nervous for nothing. From the first appointment I felt as ease around her and so did the rest of my family. I brought my older kids (6 and 7) to almost every appointment and she always took the time to speak to them and ask them if they had any questions, and when they did (even if they were just silly kid questions) she answered them with kindness and gave them information in a way that they could understand. This was my third pregnancy but I still came with questions myself every appointment and she was more than happy to answer them and have open discussions about concerns I had about anything, she was always up to date on her knowledge of what we were discussing, and she never even once put her opinion in the mix to try to sway me one way or the other. You can tell she just wants to give you the information for you to make an informed choice for yourself and she was fine with whatever choice you made. During my labor/birth things were totally normal until they weren't, and Emily and her assistant Taylor did such a good job of staying calm, keeping control of the situation, and still giving me choice through everything. I had a rare complication where the cord came off of the placenta when Emily applied gentle traction to help me deliver the placenta and this resulted in me having a retained placenta. Emily gave me the choice to try to get it out at home or go in to the hospital and I opted to try a couple things at home before ultimately deciding the hospital was the best choice. Emily checked in with me every step of the way asking if I felt safe and was ok with what we were doing. When I decided I wanted to go to the hospital she immediately stopped what we were trying and called for an ambulance for me. No guilt, shame, or anything negative from her about my choice. She gave the EMTs all the information they needed about me and even called the hospital to let them know we were coming and what to expect. Going to the hospital wasn't part of my plan and of course not ideal, but being that it was my choice and I felt supported through the entire ordeal I have walked away with minimal trauma and no regret. You are in the best hands possible with Emily and her team. The care I have received from her has changed me as a person. There is no way I could ever go through another pregnancy or birth any other way. Emily will forever have a special place in my family and in my heart. read more

I first started exploring homebirth after the fairly traumatic, eventually cesarean, birth of my first son a few years ago. I knew I wanted something different for my next baby. I opted to have co-care (homebirth midwife and hospital midwife/ doctors) through my pregnancy because I wanted to keep my options open. I interviewed a few homebirth midwives and asked a lot of questions before making my decision. @OhioMidwife, Emily Schultz, was absolutely incredible throughout my pregnancy and birth and aftercare. We met just as often as you'd meet with an OB office, but in the comfort of our home. She took my vitals, tested urine, listened to the baby and FELT the baby. This one of the many important differences in care. Emily worked with me to help ensure my baby was in a good position, guided me to helpful exercises and supplements. She reassured me that my body was working and knew what to do. She also got to know me and my family which was also really special. Emily is incredibly kind, knowledgeable, highly trained for emergencies and anything that might come up. She also is very clear that the laboring mom only stays at home if she and the baby are safe. She knows what to check for and how recognize if a hospital transfer would be best. Emily has relationships with an amazing birth team who were so so wonderful and helpful during birth. Our son was born safe and healthy at home. I am overjoyed and overwhelmed with gratitude. It is so nice to recover at home and to still feel so cared for, safe and supported. I could go on and on about the magical experience I had with homebirth and Emily (even the not so magical parts are such a fun part of the story). I'm going to stop and just say, thank you. read more

I had my twin girls at home 02/2024 with Emily and her team at my side. They were both breech which we were aware of ahead of time. We talked a lot about what the birth would look like and I did my own research as well. I was confident in my decision to have them at home because of how confident I was in Emily's skills. Every time I had a question at one of my prenatal visits, she never failed to educate, explain and give me choices. I always felt like my pregnancy was in my hands. But at the same being in Emily's care left me so at peace. She is a wealth of knowledge. She is one of the most down to earth people I have ever met. Sometimes I had to bring my older kids to prenatal visits and she was so kind to them and always included them in the process. I can not recommend her enough to anyone looking for a midwife. You will not be disappointed! I am happy to have met her and now call her my friend. read more

Midwife: OHIO MIDWIFE Year of birth: November 2023 Warning this is kind of long, I have a little experience with both of my children but worth the read. After getting pregnant with my first child I was curious about unmedicated birth but could never pull the trigger and honestly didn't know enough about the process. Well I really think God sent us Emily as miracle because my fiancé Michael was hired on to lay flooring in her office when I was in my second trimester. Michael had listened to my concerns about hospital births and the fear mongering doctors do and took them to Emily all on his own. He should honestly leave a review himself with how much he respects/adores and trusts her. We didn't opt for a home birth with our first just out of fear. Emily and I still exchanged numbers and I texted her some questions I had. I even called Emily crying after a doctor told me I HAD to be induced or my baby would die, and Emily ensured me of possible risks but that it was very normal to be over with my first. At 41w3d I went into spontaneous labor. I did elect for the epidural as it was a long labor. Emily was checking on me the whole time. (Mind you I've never met her in person at this point) labor was long and hard but I had a beautiful 9# HEALTHY baby. Well...some risky business led to surprise baby #2 just a short 5 months after that experience. I was petrified but excited. She coaxed me through breastfeeding during pregnancy. And coaxed me through a subchorianic bleed. At the start of my pregnancy I met with a few midwives closer to me but none of them hold a candle to Emily. I almost begged her to see me in the 3rd trimester because my impending due date gave me panic attacks. She happily agreed to see me at about 32 weeks of my pregnancy but warned me of a conference she was attending just one day after my due date. luckily I went into labor just two days before she left !! Another miracle This birthing experience is something I'll never forget!! The prenatal appointments were something Michael and I looked forward to do together. He would come home and be so relieved that it was actually happening. "I'm so glad Emily will be there with us". The drive was long but so so worth it. She was so kind and knowledgeable and just plain funny. She made sure Michael was involved and informed and even taught him the miles circuit so that he could help me. Communication through the app was great. Her helper Trinity was so so so sweet and likable. I met Renee when I was actually in labor. Such a sweet quiet nature. Emily let her do lots of hands on things (with consent) and even though I was in pain I loved that I got to let her do it because I hope she gets to be as knowledgeable as Emily. There was not one thing that was forced upon me just gentle coaxing and she asked permission every step of the way. During transition I really didn't think I would make it out alive haha! I looked up and there was Emily's sweet smile "you're almost done!" And about 5-10 minutes there he was! I ended up going to the hospital for a bleed Trinity made sure I had clothes and a charger lol Renee helped Michael load the baby in the car. (I had a history of placenta issues nothing Emily's team did caused this) but I was rushed off in an ambulance and Emily and her team cleaned up, walked my dog and set out postpartum essentials in my bathroom for my return. This experience was something I'll never forget!! I couldn't have done it without these three ladies and of course Michael The only con I have is that I didn't get to say goodbye or thank you to her and her amazing team read more

I wish I could write a novel about my amazing experience with Emily, honestly. I came to her at the start of my second trimester after just having found out we were having twins practically begging her to take me as a client even though I knew she was incredibly busy at the time I was due. She joyfully agreed to take me as a client and every step of the way she was thoughtful and kind and so knowledgeable. She's very humble about her experience but she's got an incredible amount of education and experience! Every interaction with Emily was filled with love and personal care--my husband and kids all loved joining me at appointments and she quickly became a friend. She made it clear she always had enough time to answer questions or listen to concerns; she's just a really, really wonderful person. Who she is as a person aside, she's also a stellar midwife. She never once recommended I do something only because that's the way it's always been done, every step of the way she made sure I had true informed consent. I like my medical care to be very hands off and not once did I ever feel pressured into doing anything I didn't want to. Twins can sometimes come with added complications so she walked me through every possibility and made sure I had the knowledge I needed to be confident and feel safe, and when delivery came it literally could not have gone better. Truly, I couldn't recommend Emily more. I almost want to have another baby just to have Emily as my midwife one more time! read more

To know Emily is to love her! Walking through this pregnancy with her by my side was truly a gift. When I found out I was pregnant with our 4th, I texted Emily knowing another homebirth was the right choice for us. When we found out we were expecting twins, we decided all over again that a homebirth with Emily by our side was the best choice for us and babies. She shared in our joyous surprise and answered my never -ending questions about multiples pregnancy and birth. Emily has a passion for birth, but she also has a passion for continuing her education and her knowledge truly shows how much effort and energy she has put into becoming an amazing midwife. When we found out our twins were presenting in a non-standard way around 36 weeks we waited to see if they would turn. Around 38 weeks they were still breech/vertex and we had to decide all over again if homebirth was still the best choice for us. We researched, scheduled consults, candidly considered c-section, talked through our options and fears and doubts and statistics, and prayed for guidance. We decided all over again that homebirth was the right choice for us, that breech is a variation of normal, and that with the right skilled midwife a homebirth was still the best choice for us and babies. Emily's experience with birth, multiples and breech made her the perfect fit once more. But in all these decisions and conversations, Emily held us so gently. She never pressured us to decide to stay or leave her practice. She helped us talk through possible outcomes, she helped us consider out of the box solutions, she put together an amazing twin birth team, and she made sure she was available to support us along the way. I looked forward to every single pre- natal visit I had with her, and we never once finished early. Emily is so easy to talk to, so loving and funny, she became such a dear friend to me and my husband both. I carried our twins 40 weeks and 3 days, past anyone's guess of when they'd arrive. And when it was time for babies to arrive, Emily was right there with us. She helped create a birth space that allowed my body to birth my babies the way that it needs to. No one told me how to labor, where to labor, or pressured me in any way. In my own home, in my own time the babies came. I had a midwife who trusted birth and trusted my body, and so I brought my last babies into the world in the most peaceful way possible: with the lights turned low, in my own home, with my husband by my side and touched by love and reassurance. Our beautiful perfect breech baby was 9lb 7oz, followed by his brother who was 7lb 10oz. Thank you thank you Emily. You will always be a part of our family, and we are so grateful for you and your passion for bringing babies safely into this world of ours. read more

When my husband and I found out that we are having our second baby I knew i did not want to have the same experience like our first birth. I did not know what to expect from home birth. Shortly after that, one of our dear friends gave birth to twins at home and I was intrigued. In our community, I had not met anyone who has had a home birth. I was unsure if I wanted to go outside of the normal and take such a huge step. That friend connected me to Emily. My husband who was also unsure about the process, but was ready to meet Emily. In our very first meeting, we knew that we wanted to proceed care with her. Unlike the hospitals, her visited lasted 1 hr. She is so thorough in her care, and the knowledge she has is extensive. Her ultimate goal is to make sure that the mom and the baby are safe. She helped us through the past 7 months to have safe beautiful birth at home, and we are still well taken care of for post natal care. She gave me resources and things to have a safe birth. We are so happy we met Emily. This is hands down the best care I have received especially since my first experience was a bit traumatic. I was made aware through this birth that we can do hard things and we do not need any medication to give birth and that our bodies are meant to go through the beautiful process of bringing life into this world. She continues to care for me and the baby through 6 weeks postpartum. There are so many things I love about Emily but one extra thing I absolutely love is the app she has that we can use to directly text her and ask her questions. If you are looking for a midwife, Emily is the person you need to meet. In just the last couple of weeks, we welcomed our son in our safe haven surrounded by the people we love. Baby came out so beautifully, and Emily and her team did an amazing job! She guided us through everything, and told us what she was going to do and why. She stayed until baby and I were ready and comfortable, and came back to visit within 36 hours. She was God sent and the best! read more

Emily is, first off, one of the most wonderful and comfortable people I've ever met. From our very first in person meeting, I really felt like she cared about me and what I wanted from birth. She exudes light and positivity. Our first visit was close to 2 hours and she answered every question I had. Her confidence and warmth make you feel so safe to be in her space. My first baby, I was at a hospital. Even though I did get to have a natural birth with no epidural like I wanted. The experience was traumatizing, my intuition and needs were pushed aside and ignored during birth. My first son suffered birth injuries that ended in a 6 month NICU stay, and I was so traumatized that I honestly was certain I'd never want to give birth or be pregnant again. Then COVID happened, and when you're trapped inside the house, it was easy for my husband and I to decide to try for another baby. Despite how terrified I was to give birth. I started doing all the research I could on birth and pregnancy. I decided to look into a homebirth because the best thing I could think of was avoiding hospitals and they are statistically safer for low-risk pregnancies. I talked to my chiropractor about it who was a strong advocate for home birth. She recommended Emily. So I scheduled a consultation with her. My first consultation lasted 2 hours and by the time I left, I was so confident that I could birth my baby at home and feel safe and supported. Unlike the hospital where you can't take your kids, I brought my 3 year old son to every visit and my 6 year old bonus daughter. She let them listen to my heartbeat and mess with my belly to feel baby and explained where baby's butt and shoulders were, and even let my 6 year old find the baby's heartbeat with the Doppler. It quickly got to where I was excited every time I had an appointment coming up. She provided documents for nutrition, supplements, spinning babies and always asked how I was doing emotionally. It was easy to reach out to her when I started to feel isolated when my husband had to leave for 4 weeks with the military and she sent me resources to help. My birth was amazing. I am so proud and grateful that Emily and my husband delivered our baby. Emily consistently reassured me during labor, when I felt like things were too intense or I couldn't do it, she told me that I could and I was so close to meeting my baby. Her assistant, Katie, was amazing and so sweet. Very calm and helped reassure me that I was so overly capable of this birth and her doula, Trinity, helped me when I was pushing and was right there, getting me water and Gatorade and blankets. She also took SO many photos; that I know I'll cherish the rest of my life. I had a shoulder dystocia during birth, and Emily helped me get baby out and let me flip over and move around and listen to my body. She knew exactly how to help our baby come earth side but she did it without restricting me from listening to my body. I was able to do what my body needed, while Emily followed her training. I gave birth to Arthur Weitzman at 2:35am. He weighed 11lbs and was 22inches long. Perfectly big, healthy boy. Emily and Trinity did not leave our house until close to 9am and Katie left around 8am. They were there for around 14 hours total. They let me lay in bed and rest with the baby while they cleaned up our house from birth and put everything away. I never felt rushed to get up or move around. Arthur stayed attached to his placenta for around an hour. It was everything I could have hoped for. Thank you Emily, Katie and Trinity. You're all wonderful. If our family wasn't complete, I'd absolutely go to Emily for every birth from this point on. I have already recommended her to several friends who saw my posts about our birth and I would recommend her to anybody else. read more

It's difficult to put into words how incredible Emily is. She was a light in our journey from the very beginning of pregnancy, clear through postpartum support. We were always given full transparency and knowledge, leading us down the path to make the best decision for us and our baby. Emily made us feel heard when we expressed concerns or had questions, she kept us informed on the small and big things and most of all, she was always there when we needed something. Our decision to choose Emily as our midwife was simple, as we have family members who have used her in the past and upon meeting her, we knew she was the perfect fit. This decision was further clarified with each visit, where she carefully devoted all of her time and energy to us, despite how incredibly busy she is. What really shows off her true self, is when it was determined that our baby was breech and was demanding to stay that way. We were informed of our options, whether we stayed home or decided to transfer. We were also informed of risks, but also how to safely deliver a breech baby at home. Every detail was explained to us and she offered mental support as well, as we were trying to decide our best option and navigating the mental roadblocks. Upon deciding to stay home for a breech birth, Emily offered so much wisdom and support, that when it came time for labor and birth, we had not a single doubt and we were so ready. Emily carefully selected another midwife, as well as two students to attend our birth. We felt so provided for, we were blown away. All throughout labor, we were made to feel supported, yet she kept her distance when we needed time. Her educating us on the breech birth, wisdom and support gave us the best outcome possible and our baby girl was delivered so smoothly. Without her knowledge and willingness to continue offering us a home birth, we know this experience wouldn't have been as incredible as it was. The amount of time Emily and the birth team spent at our home after the birth caring for myself and baby, cleaning up our home and simply visiting was astounding. The time she spent at our home visit the next day was unmatched as well (she even swaddled our dog when we asked for swaddling help because baby was nursing). Postpartum visits have been nothing short of great, too. She calmly assesses baby and myself, asks questions, checks on your mental health and is always a text away with any concerns between visits. We praise Emily to all of our family and friends, and I know the few people who got to meet her after our birth and during our home visit have been equally impressed! She truly is an incredible human being with an absolute heart of gold. We likely wouldn't have been able to have a breech home birth with anyone else's care, and we know our birth would not have looked the same at all without her. She is the best there is and I pray anyone wanting to birth at home gets to experience her care! We love you, Emily read more

ALL of my babies came to me in the perfect way at the perfect time, (one adoption and two preterm deliveries) but at the same time, for me, I felt that so many aspects and choices were not mine and left to be at the mercy of others to make for me. Some things I looked to others whom I thought knew better and it was good to have that wisdom, other things I forfeited my own intuition and wisdom and felt pressured to make choices that were not my own. When I made it to 36 weeks and saw that the possibility of birthing at home was actually an option, I started the process of looking for a midwife. The second that Michael and I met with Emily, @ohiomidwife, I left knowing that she's exactly who I wanted in my corner to support my birth. Emily answered all of my questions, understood my concerns and fears, handled all of my husbands questions and made us both feel that any choice we chose for us and our baby was the right one. There was no judgment or swaying, just pure support. That was so important to me. During our time together House visits would last more than a 20 minute office visit and she listened. Really listened. She included my kids and really got to know us. The day August came I never felt more taken care of and supported. August and I ran the show that morning. Her presence gave me calmness and safety. Before every touch I was asked if it was ok. I got to choose the when, where and how. I had autonomy over what was rightfully mine and it was beautiful and empowering. When things came up, as sometimes happens in birth, her actions were quick, her focus was on only doing what needed to be done and her calm demeanor kept me feeling safe as she kept me safe. After birth she stayed with us for hours making sure everything was perfect and settled. She literally put us to bed before she walked out of the door. Emily was the best decision I made. Her knowledge, care and LOVE made this birth a beautiful, empowering and healing experience. read more

It's hard to put into words what an amazing experience it was working with Emily throughout the pregnancy and birth of our very first child.. from the very first interaction I told my husband how at ease I felt speaking with her about our future care. She is amazingly knowledgeable and was able to answer every question we had along the way! I always knew that I wanted to have our baby at home and Emily made the entire experience feel safe and empowering. When I look at my sweet baby boy I feel a sense of pride in having brought him into this world all naturally and in our love filled home. I can't imagine having had a better birth experience. read more

I had the best birthing experience I've ever had with Emily Schultz and her amazing team. I've never felt so comfortable, safe and well taken care of. I literally didn't have to worry about anything my only job was to push baby out. They did all the rest and then some. I finally had the birthing experience I've always dreamed of having. We will definitely be choosing her with all our births from now on! read more

I chose Emily Schultz for my 3rd birth (2nd homebirth) because I wanted someone who dedicates themselves wholly and completely to facilitating the most incredible birth experience, whatever that looked like, for me. I prefer a more hands off approach and Emily was effortlessly able to accommodate that. She is humble and selfless and was able to provide the most incredible, nurturing care for me, my birth, and my baby without making me feel like a burden. There is nothing this woman won't do if it means comfort for you and everyone else. She was able to set a birth pool up completely within a half hour all on her own! Being so close to giving birth when I called her, I truly was expecting not to have enough time. She is constantly continuing her education so that she can be the best helper should an emergency or difficulty arise. I don't typically have complications during my births, but she was able to swiftly and efficiently treat some hemorrhaging I experienced this time. The appointments were always so thorough, and Emily was able to guide me through safe and natural options to address any concerns. I felt so supported, loved, and truly heard in every interaction I had with her. She even took hundreds of pictures and videos for us-something I've never had. If you are looking to feel completely safe, relieved, and relaxed in your birthing environment, Emily would be the one to call into your space. She even cleaned for us! You can be assured that she wants the best for you, as she does for herself. She has a positive mental attitude and is so generous with her love. 11/10 Highly recommend! read more

Hiring Emily will be such a beautifully life-changing decision for you! When we decided to have a home birth with our second baby (after a hospital birth with our first), I wanted to make sure I did my homework and due diligence to feel comfortable about the choice to stay home. I researched all of the midwives in the area and interviewed multiple. There was something so positive about Emily's office space, our initial conversation during the interview, and the feeling I had when leaving. I knew in my gut there was no one better! I agree with other reviewers that there can't possibly be words to describe what an amazing resource (and person) Emily is. You can tell she was made to do this! I always joked that Emily wasn't just my midwife, but also my therapist. The way she listens and is present during appointments is unlike anything I've ever experienced. She is so invested in her mommas and babies and provided care for us during the entire pregnancy that felt as if we were her only clients. I've grown to trust her more than any medical provider I've ever worked with. Her knowledge of pregnancy/labor/delivery made even my medical husband who said we'd never have a home birth feel comfortable with the process (he now says he too wouldn't want it any other way!). Her availability and response time are also second to none, as she has a wonderful app available to clients to be able to chat with her and ask her questions at anytime. I love that she was always transparent and honest and sought to educate me every step of the way while respecting my preferences. I learned SO much from her about pregnancy, childbirth, holistic alternatives and care, and my body in general. She is also so connected in the community that she was able to recommend other types of providers to ensure I always had all of the resources I needed. During labor and delivery Emily and her team were so considerate and respectful of the birth space and my birth plan (which Emily had helped me with during one of my last appointments). They supported us when needed and took beautiful photos that we will treasure forever when they were not actively needed. During the delivery, things suddenly turned serious, and Emily took immediate action to stabilize the situation and get baby out. I ended up having to push for a long time and she provided me with support like I've never known and helped bring about a strength in me I didn't know I had. I truly could not have done it without her. Baby ended up throwing us a handful of what could have been really concerning issues including a posterior and face first presentation, a shoulder dystocia, and meconium in his airways, and Emily navigated each one with knowledge, skill, confidence, speed, and complete calmness. What would have all been traumatic experiences in a hospital were able to be just another part of our birth story due to Emily's competence and care. I never once felt scared and knew we were in the best hands. After baby's arrival, Emily and her team stayed for hours keeping us company, making sure we were both stable, cleaning up, and even changing our sheets. She delayed the newborn exam for 3 hours so baby could nurse and cuddle as we all sat around chatting and soaking in the beauty of those first moments. After the newborn exam she helped me shower and made sure we all had everything we needed. My husband and I didn't have to do anything- they even took out the trash. You never would have known by looking at the space afterward that we'd even had a home birth. The postpartum care was just as wonderful and Emily once again provided me with an outlet to process and digest the birth experience while setting me and baby up physically for the best possible recovery. Not only was this such a powerful experience for my husband and I, but Emily has also impacted my firstborn in such a beautiful way. She allowed her to attend all of my prenatal appointments and even had so many fun toys in her office for her to play with. Emily let her "help" with the exams and always involved her whenever possible. By the end of my pregnancy, my daughter got so excited to go see "Miss Midwife Emily" and I wouldn't be surprised if she wants to be a midwife herself one day. I'll never be able to thank Emily enough for how she has blessed our entire family. If it isn't obvious yet, we would highly recommend Emily to anyone and everyone. I'm sure if you hire her, you too will be back to this page in 9 months, struggling to find a way to express just how beautifully Emily has touched your life. read more

Emily is truly an amazing person. Not only with her calming presence but the way she makes sure your needs and wishes are heard and validated for how you want you birth to go. Even when things change she made sure we felt calm and taken care of in every situation. She made sure we understood every single thing she did. This birth was a rollercoaster but definitely healing and peaceful. I wouldn't have wanted anyone else to share in such a special moment with us. read more

This was my 3rd home birth but my first home birth with Emily/Ohio Midwife. I had a great experience with Emily. My labors are everything but typical. I had prodromal labor on and off for almost 2 weeks. I always have back labor which is very painful. Even though my prodromal labor was not progressing it was still very painful. I was not sure if it was the real thing or not. Emily drove to my house to check on me. Then she drove to my house while she was in town a couple days later. She definitely didn't have to do that since I wasn't in true labor but she never made me feel bad about coming when it was a false alarm. She let me come to her office for 2 extra appointments to check me and see how far I was dilated since I had been having contractions all day. This was all helpful information so we could kind of figure out when I would actually go into real labor. My baby's head was stuck on my hip. When my water broke, Emily was able to suggest a natural remedy to make my contractions stronger to help get the baby off my hip and into my cervix so I could push my baby out! She also manually helped move my baby off my hip. She is a very knowledgeable, kind, caring and loving midwife. She makes you feel in control of your own birth journey. My baby's cord was around his neck. She very calmly unwrapped the cord and stimulated my baby all while talking in a soft/calm voice to me. Even though I was scared for my baby I trusted in Emily. I started to hemorrhage after birth and Emily gave me something to stop the bleeding. She set up and tore down the birthing pool, got me something to drink, checked the baby, got me all wiped down and comfortable in bed, did laundry, etc all before leaving. She came back to my house a couple days later and did all the blood work, heart testing, paperwork for baby, check on me and the baby again. She has you come to her office at 1, 3 & 6 weeks postpartum. I would recommend home birth to anyone who wants to feel in control of their birth experience and I would definitely choose Emily Shultz as your home birth midwife! read more

It is hard to put into words what Emily means to me and my family. Before we were even pregnant, a homebirth is something that we discussed and wanted at some point. However, we knew that we would have to find a midwife that we fully trusted and checked all the boxes. My sister-in-law had recommended Emily. When we met with her, we were amazed by her knowledge, genuine personality, and the time she took to answer questions. It was no question that we wanted to book Emily as our midwife. We always enjoyed and looked forward to our prenatal appointments with Emily. At each appointment, we felt like we had Emily's full attention; we did not feel like one of many clients. Since this was our first pregnancy, we came to each appointment with numerous questions. She always took the time to give us answers and explain things in full to assure that we understood. Emily is extremely knowledgeable and confident, and she always made us feel at ease. When Emily arrived on the day of our delivery, she and her student, Trinity, were very calm and thoughtful. They helped create the kind of environment that my husband and I envisioned for our birth. When Emily had checked me, she found that our baby's head was "stuck" on my hip. She was very calm explaining the situation and recommended different exercises to try out, along with some different techniques she tried out. Thankfully, our baby's head was able to come off my hip and things started moving. When I got in the pool to begin pushing, Emily let me do what my body was telling me to do. She was never in the way or unnecessarily intervening, and our healthy 9lb 6oz baby boy was born shortly after. I truly believe that had I been in the hospital, unnecessary medical interventions would have been used, and I would not have been able to have the birth that I wanted. Emily saved me from those interventions that we did not want, and for that, I am extremely grateful! I 110% recommend Emily as a midwife! read more

There's so many great things I could say about Emily and Ohio midwife. She is so caring and really gets to know you and your baby, even your spouse too. Emily is the best midwife I have ever had. Being under her care feels like pregnancy is just a beautiful part of life. She is extremely knowledgeable and shares any piece of advice that you would like to hear. She uses natural remedies and is extremely responsive to questions. She is so sweet to talk to and she forms a caring relationship with you and your family at each visit. We learned that in the beginning of my pregnancy I had not been getting enough nutrition and it affected me later on around 31 weeks when we checked my CBC and CMP. It turns out I had severe iron deficiency anemia as well as all the pre symptoms of preeclampsia. She reassured me that this could be fixed by diet and supplements. Emily never stopped helping me through the process and even though it could have been scary I never felt nervous being under her care. I am planning on having a home birth and I am so thankful for Emily's care throughout my pregnancy. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a wonderful midwife who truly cares about every detail and keeps your best interests in mind. read more

Emily has basically been my jack of all trades for my pregnancy and post partum period. Shes very knowledgable, passionate and experienced with birth and all the work that goes both into the preparation and aftercare (for both mother and baby). After having a nightmare exprience with my OBGYNs prenatal care, I decided to trust Emily and her care recommendations (for chiropractic services, pediatric doctors, etc) for me and my son. Emily basically has all the ancient birthing knowledge that our parents and grandparents failed to pass down to us and is the perfect companion for someone who doesnt have a lot of familial support for a natural homebirth. With her care and knowledge I was able to have the birth of my dreams with my first child, and will definitely be using her services for any other pregnancies I have down the line. This is someone who will really work with you to get what you want and be realistic, yet optimistic with you about what you can expect and achieve. She was basically my personal trainer for birth and I dont think I couldve had as wonderful of an experience without her! read more

Emily is one of the greatest people I have ever known. She very quickly became family to us and I will never trust anyone the way I trust Emily to bring new life into the world. She communicates what is needed so clearly and in a way that is easy to understand. She is down to earth, warm, open, and really has a sense of calm in the chaos that can be birth. She never once made me feel judged and always validated anything I was feeling during my births. She does an incredible job at just holding space for mom and baby. I am forever grateful for her! read more

There are so many words I would like to say about my birth experience with Ohio Midwife. First, this was the most supported and encouraged I have ever felt during any pregnancy. The genuine care and attention that was shown to me was unmatched. Emily made me feel safe, empowered, and excited to deliver my baby at our home. This was my second VBAC and she gave me such confidence that we would be successful again. When my water broke she came over shortly after and assisted with getting baby in the right position as she was a bit high still. She gave my husband and I space but was close enough to support when we needed. Once transition happened and it was time to push she gave me the assistance I need to bring the baby earth side. My husband was able to be hands on and catch the baby and Emily guided us all the way. The Ohio Midwife team provided us with amazing postpartum care and were like little fairies moving around to get the birthing space cleaned up. Another excellent benefit of receiving care with them is the fact you see them several times during the first six weeks. Having her come back to my home to take care of newborn screenings and provide me bedside postpartum care was great. Emily also communicates with you almost daily checking in to see how you're healing and if any assistance is needed. I highly recommend Ohio Midiwife to any family that wants to be respected, empowered, and cared for during the prenatal and postpartum period. I wish I would have done this sooner! Thank you so much Ohio Midwife! read more

Emily is the most trustworthy, educated and genuine people I've ever met. She has such a gentle touch and always asks consent before applying it. She is talented with taking photos during downtime, if that is desired. She knows what to say and when to say it, always. Her services are outstanding. Emily is ethical, competent, talented, thorough, clever, and kind. The Dayton area is so lucky to have her. If I give birth again, she is undoubtably the midwife I'd choose. read more

Emily far surpassed our wildest dreams! She is truly amazing and what a wonderful soul! She is the most passionate, hard working, caring, patient, compassionate and loving midwife we could have ever hoped for. She provides such a positive and warm presence from the first moment you meet her! We knew from the moment we found out we were pregnant that we wanted a home birth and she made it happen! She made not only our birth enjoyable but also our prenatal care. She helped me to feel so empowered and that my body was made to do this! She took the time to listen to our thoughts and hear our questions. The knowledge that Emily possesses shows how dedicated she is to this work, and how much she truly cares for her mamas and babies. She pointed us in the right direction every step of the way. She always made sure that we felt supported and well cared for. During our parental care she never wavered in her support, she was there every step of the way! As well as during our birth! She was such a calming presence and made sure our sweet baby boy and me his mama were safe and healthy. We could not have had such a positive birth experience without her and the support didn't stop there! She continues to be such a blessing in our lives and supports us during this postpartum time. Finding out we were pregnant with our second baby came as a shock. I instantly knew that I wanted to have a home birth. I began the hunt. I came across Emily and immediately set up a visit to get to meet her. When I met her, I knew instantly that she was going to be so amazing! Throughout my pregnancy she was very easily accessible if I had any questions at all. She is knowledgeable in every area and offers very good background information on everything asked to make sure you feel 100% confident in what she's shared. Emily is so calm and gentle. When I was having my daughter her shoulder was stuck, Emily knew exactly what needed to be done to ensure my babies safety and did not seem panicked. There were many times I said "I can't" and she was so encouraging to help me get through to the end. After birth, Emily stayed for a few hours to make sure everything went smoothly. She told me signs to look for incase of an emergency & promised I could call her with any questions at all. My entire experience with Emily was so amazing. I am not looking forward to our time ending together. If I were to ever have another baby, Emily would be who I would call! read more

Ok, so this review is about 6 weeks overdue. I have been struggling to find the words to say, that haven't already been said in most all of the reviews that Emily and Ohio Midwife already have. I say "most" instead of "all" because I haven't read all of them. But I read enough to know that Emily's services are second to none. My wife and I planned to have our first child in the conventional hospital setting. After 2 or 3 visits with the staff there, we knew it wasn't what we wanted. They were robots. Baby factory robots. They didn't remember anything we ever said to them unless it was noted on our "chart". It was like meeting them for the first time, every time. They paid no mind to our requests during pregnancy, and asked us the same questions they asked us at the last appointment. It just didn't feel right at all... Fast forward to probably week 25ish... We decided a home birth is what we wanted to pursue. Luckily, I went to school with a now chiropractor (Here's your plug Josh: Steinke Family Chiropractic in Wapakoneta) who has had all 5 of his kids at home. When I found out, I naturally asked him who his Midwife was... and that's how we heard about Emily and Ohio Midwife. Our first visit with Emily was more like "tea and crumpets", as opposed to sitting in a cold hospital room, on a bed covered in paper, as a white coated "know it all" tells you how you're going to have your baby. Emily never asked us the same question twice throughout our whole experience with her. She remembered dates, names, and all pertinent information. Every visit with her was like meeting up with an old friend. Fast forward to our little Lila's birthday, September 2nd, 2021: My wife started having contractions at about 10pm Sept. 1st. In the interest of making sure these were the real deal (because this was week 42, and she had been having braxton hicks contractions for a while now), we simply texted Emily that we thought something may be going on, and she calmly told us to let her know if things start ramping up. At about 2am, the lights dimmed, the earth shook a bit, and my wife told me that I needed to take the dogs to my mom's house for the day... we texted Emily and our Doula, Jennifer Steinke (no relation to Josh), who is also an amazing lactation consultant, among many other things (sorry Jennifer, I can't remember them all... haha)...Let's just say she's VERY qualified for all this baby stuff. Anyway, I digress... Jennifer showed up to our house around 2:30am, I took the dogs to the sitter, and Emily rolled in at about 3:30am, with every possible thing you could need to have a baby in our living room, including a HOT TUB!!! haha. My wife labored for about 12 hours, Emily checked vitals about every hour... the baby stayed calm, cool, and collected the whole time. And at 3:56pm, our beautiful Lila Jean entered the world in the hands of Emily and my wife Nicole. From meeting her on day 1, to Lila's last checkup this week (week 6), Emily never once let us down. She handled EV-ERY-THING! All we had to do after our baby was born was sit back in our own house, relax, and get to know our little one. Even though I would have no trouble writing a novel about the whole experience right now, I'll end it with this: Emily Schultz is the Erin Brockovich of Midwifery (yes, that's a real word). At EVERY visit, she talked to us, remembered us, and guided us, not only as if we were her only clients, but as if we were lifelong friends. If she wasn't so busy, I'd invite her and her family over for dinner every Sunday, just to catch up. Our experience with Ohio Midwife/Emily Schultz, and Jennifer Steinke (Doula, et al) was exactly how we had envisioned our beautiful daughter meeting us for the first time. I can't recommend them enough... I really can't. God puts some pretty amazing people on this earth... and I'm so glad 2 of them are right here in Ohio at our beck and call. Thank you Emily and Jennifer! You're both imprinted on our hearts forever. Oh, and as for the cost to do all of this... peanuts, compared to what you get and pay for at a hospital/baby factory. read more

With my first baby I had a hospital birth. There were many unnecessary interventions, no one listened to me or followed my birth plan. So this time around I knew I wanted something different, and having a home birth has always been a dream of mine. So I sought out to find the perfect midwife. Emily was just that and more. She was the first person I contacted and we instantly clicked. It was fate that brought me to this beautiful amazing lady! I started doing co-care so I was able to receive ultrasounds for free through my insurance. And the care I received from my OBGYN vs Emily's were polar opposites. My OB was extremely pushy, rude, and cold. She criticized me heavily for my choices like - declining a flu shot, wanting a homebirth, and not wanting a pap smear. She convinced me that I was putting my baby in harm's way because of those things. My OB even ended up terminating my care at 20 weeks due to me declining a pap smear. I don't even know where to begin to describe my divine experience with Emily. First of all, she is one of the most caring, loving, knowledgeable, dedicated, and compassionate individuals I have gotten the privilege to know. Every prenatal visit is an hour long so you really get to know one another and get comfortable in her care. Emily answered any and every question I had thoroughly. Any fear or doubt that came up, she was able to make me feel safe, calm, reassured, and informed! Emily really respected and encouraged me throughout our whole time together. She effortlessly makes you feel so welcomed and at home. My daughter would even beg to go to her house lol! She looked forward to seeing Emily every week. Emily included Adalei every chance she got. Adalei got to help with my vitals and hearing her baby brother's heartbeat each visit. These are such special precious moments that I will cherish forever! During my pregnancy Emily really empowered me and made me feel so beautiful throughout my whole pregnancy, which is unlike anything I ever felt before. To be surrounded by such love while growing a baby was an amazing experience. Unlike your traditional OBGYN office, Emily really puts a big focus on educating you on health and nutrition throughout your pregnancy. So you can feel your best and have an easier labor and birth. I stayed active and felt good my entire 42 weeks because of these things! She's really knowledgeable of natural remedies. She also has the best supplement recommendations that fit your needs. Emily suggested I take a total blood health supplement during my pregnancy since I was so anemic with my first child and actually had to get a blood transfusion with her. After religiously taking the supplement, my iron levels stayed at 12! So I really believe this was critical in my health throughout my pregnancy and especially in delivery. My birth experience was absolutely magical. I felt so high the entire time. Emily and my doula empowered me the entire time and made me feel so confident. My partner kept referring to them as the "dream team". And that's exactly what they were! Emily and her assistant Katie stayed 5 hours after birth. My house was so clean when they left, you would've never even of known I just gave birth in it hours before. My experience at home with Emily compared to my first pregnancy was night and day! I also couldn't believe how quickly I recovered after the homebirth. I never wanted more than 2 kids before... But with a midwife like Emily you're going to want to have more. I will miss our weekly visits so much and I treasure the time we spent together so dearly! If you're looking for a midwife, look no further! Emily is your girl. read more

After YEARS of having fears based on birth related trauma, I was hesitant to allow anyone into my birthing space. Due to this trauma, I decided to do a freebirth with our previous pregnancy. It went well in the end, but there was so much that could've gone better. This time, we were pregnant with baby number seven and knew it was going to be our last. I wanted it to be special. I had heard so many good reviews about Emily, but we didn't have a budget in place for a midwife for baby number six, and I saw that she was not available for our expected due date with baby number seven (Not even gonna lie...I cried a little). Another freebirth it is, I guess! At about 33/34 weeks, it hit me that I should at least reach out to meet Emily and see if she would be willing to answer some questions and/or offer suggestions for hubby and I before it was time. I'm so glad I went with my gut on this. Upon walking into her office, I immediately felt a sense of calm and comfort. It was as if we had known each other for years. I sat down and shared all of my fears with her and ended up jokingly [but seriously ] sharing how sad I was when I found out that she didn't have availability for my EDD. It was then that I found out that she actually had availability to work with us. Yaaaayyyyyy!!! I don't know if there are words to fully explain the experience I had working with Emily. It has taken over two months to get to this point, tbh. The amount of love and care she has for birthing...for PEOPLE...shows in everything she does. Our questions were answered in a way that alleviated any fears and anxiety I had about birth, and she made sure I was comfortable every step of the way. At 38+6, our sweet baby girl made her way Earthside. Though the delivery had some unexpected, potential life-threatening issues, Emily and her AMAZING team, Trinity and Renee, didn't panic. They knew exactly what to do and quickly jumped into action. Their level of calm made it clear that they were on top of the situation and I felt assured that we were under the best possible care. They stayed with us for several hours after the birth and left our house better than it was before. You would've never even known that I had just given birth there only hours before. The entire experience was TRULY one for the books! Our postpartum visits were so detailed. Emily makes sure to only do the testing and postnatal care that you feel comfortable with. There is no pushing to do what others deem is "best". Baby girl was able to get everything she needed and her big brothers and sisters were even able to help with some of her care. They all felt so special! I often see people share their pros and cons of working with someone, so I figured I'd do the same: PROS: EVERYTHING! Emily is truly an angel on Earth. There is no question that this is her calling. I am certain that I could not have had a better experience elsewhere. CONS: Me not reaching out sooner! Emily is more than a midwife to us. She is our friend...she is family! I know it sounds silly after only knowing her for such a small amount of time, but...hire her! You'll see exactly what I mean. read more

There is not a library big enough on earth to hold everyone's birth story. I just love and embrace the different emotions. It's pure organic bliss to difficult and traumatic. Here is part of my story... I was on the journey of trying to get pregnant with my second child but hit a roadblock that ended up needing surgery to fix. After not being successful again, my husband and I were referred to a fertility specialist. Once there I believe I let a guard down and found out after our first appointment, I was pregnant! I like most women had a regular OB and although she was awesome, she was concerned about a pelvic injury I sustained with my daughter years before so a cesarean was recommended. Your body, if connected to it, will guide you and I felt a pull that there might be a way to deliver naturally. Although we were in the midst of COVID craziness, our family found one of the best doulas in the country, April Kline. She instantly helped guide me and my broken self to the light of natural childbirth among so much more. I then saw a different OB office where a midwife agreed that I could attempt to deliver naturally but I might not be able to have our doula April at the hospital or be pulled into certain interventions. Now I believe western medicine can be beneficial in certain situations but birth is such a sacred experience I wanted to let myself not be so stressed out with all the current rules in place and be so cared as a whole human being and that's where Emily entered my journey. I had been familiar with home birth but wasn't sure if I would be a candidate. She had been so swamped with women scrambling to change there birth plan due to COVID but agreed to walk with me on this journey. It was the most exciting and peaceful decision. She held our family's hands through so many questions and road bumps. Her experience, knowledge and kindness is unlike anything you will find in a general practitioner. Our visits to her office where the highlights of the pregnancy and just having someone that is so present and engaged in your care makes such a difference in how you enter your birth space. When I was in labor, Emily and her assistant Katie went above and beyond to handle everything so seamlessly even though it was the middle of the night. All I could do for about 5 hours of intense labor was scream in pain it seemed but they were always one step ahead of what needed to happen. The set up of the birth pool in our home to the clean up afterwards was so impressive. I was able to give birth In the comfort of my home and made decisions to what I needed like a snack or to change positions. I was given the space to work through our baby being difficult to come out. She stayed with us till she felt comfortable leaving and was able to do everything we would have had done at a hospital. Emily is such a light in this world and her work bringing souls into this world (even if its holding open your pelvis to help your baby come out) is beyond words. It was such a raw, beautiful empowering experience giving birth at home and Emily made us all feel so provided for! Thank you Emily. Our family is eternally grateful. read more

Would I recommend Ohio Midwife ?! Absolutely!!! During my pregnancy I received Co care as well, I had found out I had gestational diabetes. Emily always told me ways I could improve my health for my baby while on the other side my OB bullying me into trying to take medicine when I know I was taking care of myself and my baby correctly. I would have opt out of my OB earlier but wanted to have ultrasounds that my insurance covered... so I hung in there and just continued to deny anything I didn't feel comfortable with. Emily always took the time to talk to me and answer any questions I had considering it was my first planned home birth but second child. On 04/27 I had went to Emily to have my 40 week check up and baby was still posterior and head above my pubic bone so I went home and did all my exercises I was supposed to do to try to get her to turn. Around 3AM on 04/28 I woke up with some pretty intense contractions and did some more exercises because I couldn't sleep anyways . Next thing I know my water had broke! I called Emily and told her what was happening and told me to time them and to try and get some rest. As time is going on my contractions were anywhere from 30-40 seconds long and about 1-2 min apart.. pattern stayed the same but they did however get more intense. I called Emily being discouraged and crying because I had enough pain and to think I'd have hours of that was intimidating for me! She had told me everything will be alright and my body CAN do this! After I had gotten off the phone with her I continued to labor and try to not think about an epidural . I had the urge to have a bowl movement so I walked to the bathroom and had an instinct to check myself...... I felt her head!! Immediately called Emily and told her! While staying on the phone with her I was holding my urge to push. Emily had given some directions on a few things to do to prepare. As we are on the phone she tells us to call 911 to have the EMT come just in case she had a shoulder stuck. EMT arrived just a couple min before Emily and they helped me or should I say catch my 8lb baby girl! Emily came in and immediately explained what was needed to be done instead of their protocol and took control of the situation. I couldn't have asked for better care from Emily. She is not only a provider but a friend as well! I appreciate her in so many ways. She is an amazing human I am so happy she is my midwife! 10/10 recommend read more

My experience is a somewhat unusual one. Emily come into our lives when I was 22wks pregnant with di di twins July 2023. I just got out of yet another OBGYN appointment completely crushed that my final lead out of about 50 was yet again a complete flop. All I wanted was the freedom to do what I believed was best for me and my babies....And I couldn't find a single doctor who would at least "allow" me the decision to attempt an unmedicated vaginal delivery for my twins. After all, I had already previously had two other unmedicated vaginal births for my other children. I called Emily out of complete desperation knowing she was the last name on my list that I hadn't officially crossed off. And would you believe it to my excitement and dismay (because I was at this point bawling my eyes out over the complete loss of decision over my own body) she answered. For the first time in months I experienced an incredible compassion for what I was feeling and wanting, and I ended that call feeling a massive weight lifted even though we hadn't officially decided to move forward together. Me, my husband, and Emily all met about a week later. I remember that meeting feeling like I could breathe again after months of suffocating. I actually mattered and someone who was supposed to professionally care for me and my pregnancy actually did. We moved forward with plans for a homebirth, but unfortunately 4 weeks later one of my twins was discovered to have a rare lung condition that if not resolved by birth would require immediate nicu help. Because of this, homebirth didn't ultimately happen for us in the end. But let me tell you, Emily walked each week of those ups and downs with us. All the unknowns and the fears. She helped us weigh options in an unbiased manner, and advocated for me and the birth I wanted however she could. She continued our care in every aspect and our visits with her ended up being my favorite part of every week. She was always so thorough and never missed a thing, even when my load of specialist doctors were! I ultimately believe her kindness and care is what set my postpartum journey on the right path mentally and physically, and made me feel so cared for, loved, and seen in my most vulnerable moments postpartum with twins. Emily is an invaluable asset and resource to have on your side, for whatever small or huge thing may come your way during pregnancy and postpartum. I can't recommend her enough!!! read more

I was almost to my 3rd trimester during the pandemic in March 2020 and decided to research home birth for my second child. I set up a few initial visits with home birth midwives and Emily was the first we met with. From the moment she walked through the door I felt better from her calm and confident presence. Our first visit lasted over 3 hours... She answered all of our questions and made me 100% confident that a home birth was the right choice for us. My care with Emily was extremely different from the care I was previously getting with the hospital midwives. She came to our house for every visit, humored my son and his requests for her to give his stuffed animal dinosaur a checkup every time, and had suggestions for my nutrition, supplements, and overall health. She genuinely cared, and listened patiently to my pregnancy complaints and anxieties. It didn't take long for her to feel like a long-time trusted friend, who just happened to know a ton about pregnancy, birth and babies! Seriously, her knowledge and skills are IMPRESSIVE. Emily especially had a huge impact on my mental health during the covid lockdown. As an extrovert being physically isolated from friends/family during my pregnancy, I needed extra emotional support and she really came through for me. She took extra time with me and my family and it was a huge value to me. I looked forward to every visit! When it came time to the birth of my daughter, Emily was unsurprisingly fantastic. My birth progressed rather quickly and, to be honest, I hardly noticed her arrival because I was in the zone. I was able to labor on my own with support only when it was needed. Her team was also amazing and they took care of my every need. I birthed my baby in a pool in my living room, and was able to catch her myself, but the umbilical cord was wrapped around my baby's neck and leg. Emily swiftly and calmly helped me untangle the cord and I held my baby girl for the first time! I feel like I could go on and on about Emily. She is a beautiful soul with a wealth of knowledge. My only regret is that I didn't connect with Emily earlier in my pregnancy or with my first baby. Our family is complete but if I was having another baby I would 1,000% have Emily as my midwife again. read more

We cannot say enough amazing things about our midwife, Emily, and her assistant Ashley. From start to finish, our experience with them was nothing short of incredible. Our son, Baylor James, decided to arrive early at 36+4 weeks, which came as a complete surprise. From the moment my water broke late at night, Emily was calm, responsive, and incredibly supportive as she walked us through our options and helped us make informed decisions. Even in less-than-ideal circumstances coming from 7 births in 4 days and very little sleep she showed unwavering dedication to getting to us and ensuring we felt cared for. Throughout labor, Emily provided guidance that was both reassuring and effective. When things progressed quickly and became intense, she knew exactly what to do--helping me move from 4cm to 7cm quickly and continuing to guide me through each stage. Her presence immediately brought peace into what had started to feel overwhelming. When our baby needed extra support during delivery, Emily acted quickly, confidently, and skillfully. Her ability to remain calm yet decisive in a critical moment made all the difference, and because of her expertise, our son was delivered safely. We truly believe her knowledge and intuition protected both me and our baby. Her care didn't stop after birth. She stayed for hours monitoring both of us and took my postpartum concerns seriously. When I experienced heavier bleeding, she carefully tried multiple interventions at home before recommending we go to the hospital for a second opinion. Knowing my anxiety around hospitals, she went above and beyond--calling ahead, advocating for me, and even going with us to ensure I felt safe and supported. Because of Emily, we were able to have the home birth experience we dreamed of while also feeling completely safe and cared for every step of the way. She is knowledgeable, compassionate, attentive, and truly has a gift for what she does. We are forever grateful to Emily for helping bring our son into the world safely. If you are considering a home birth, we wholeheartedly recommend her--you will be in the best hands!! read more

If you are planning a homebirth Emily Schultz at @ohiomidwife is the midwife for you. She gives phenomenal care throughout pregnancy, during birth, and for postpartum aftercare. Emily is the most knowledgeable, kind, loving, caring, and compassionate provider you and your family could ever receive. She is always going above and beyond for her each of her clients. She is the most dedicated person I know. I was a first time mom and found out I was pregnant in the middle of a pandemic. I knew I wanted a homebirth but I had no idea what to expect throughout pregnancy, during birth, or how to transform my desire for a homebirth into a reality. Initially I strayed away for my instinctual want of a homebirth and began going to doctors appointments with a regular OBGYN. I was extremely disappointed with the 5-10 minute appointments that each left me a bit more anxious than the visit before. Around 18 weeks I had had enough and began searching for a midwife. Emily was recommended to me and after my first time talking to her I knew that a homebirth under her care was the right thing for me to do. My fear evolved into anticipation and excitement. After my first time meeting her I no longer dreaded appointments and instead found a deep comfort and peace at each visit. My care was thorough. Emily checks your urine, vitals, position of baby, and asks a million and one questions at every visit to ensure the health of Momma and baby. She is extremely knowledgeable when it comes to beneficial supplements as well as exercises to get baby in the optimal position for a smooth delivery. During labor and birth Emily was phenomenal. Being a first time mom I was scared at times but Emily was right beside me answering every question that came to my mind. She helped me stay calm through every wave of contraction that hit. Through the worst of pain Emily makes you feel not only empowered but safe. She is the best. If I were ever to have another baby I would probably talk to Emily before trying to conceive just make sure she was available for my midwifery care. 12 out of 10 recommend. read more

Loved everything about my prenatal care and labor experience with Emily Schultz! I can tell she changes the way she interacts with each of her patients as INDIVIDUALS- she will get to know YOU and what works best for you and your family in pregnancy and labor. (My first birth was with nurse midwives at a birth center and that was certainly not my experience.) My journey this time around was so much more meaningful to me because I had a wise, caring woman who was so thorough in her care for me on a physical and emotional level. Our appointments covered everything, and were so much more involved than what I had been used to the first time around. She would ask so many questions about symptoms that could be indicators to problems down the road, ask me how I was doing emotionally, give me advice on how to holistically solve the many complaints of pregnancy- THESE were some of the most important things I wanted to change for my second time around. I learned so much about things to look for and how to prevent problems. I am such a nutrition nerd and a studier of pregnancy and labor and Emily was so fun to talk to and learn from about all that! If I had questions she always had answers-and they were always the answers that aligned with my philosophy and principles because she's just that good at getting to know where you're coming from. In labor, my intuition was respected and Emily trusted me to do what I felt like I should, but I also felt so supported and safe knowing if I needed an opinion or help or if anything went wrong, she was right there. My birth experience was awesome and so empowering and also so transformative for me and my little family- she was a HUGE part in helping that come to pass! Emily is so professional while still being warm and personable. Emily is so cool, so capable, and I kinda hope I'm here all my childbearing years because I'd pick to have her by my side every time! read more

I don't even know if I can put together the right words to express how amazing Emily is! This was my second time working with her, though my first time I had placenta previa/accreta & had to transfer to OB care around 28 weeks pregnant. I knew if we were to try to have another child, Emily would be the FIRST on my contact list! I looked forward to every prenatal visit with her, as did my 5 & 3 year old daughters. Emily has a play corner for the kids, but also involves them in care as much as they are wanting. My daughters are very curious & Emily answered all their questions simply & age appropriately - plus they loved getting balloons at the end of our visit! When it came to questions of my own, she had an answer & resources for every one. I left every visit feeling so confident & excited for birth! When labor began, Emily was in constant contact with me & reassured me she would be prepared to leave the moment I felt ready for her to arrive. When she did, her presence immediately comforted me & never once did a worry cross my mind (which is rare for someone with anxiety like me!!) I knew I was in the absolute best hands possible. She was gentle, reassuring, loving, & compassionate. She was encouraging me & giving me affirmations that made me feel strong & confident. Our baby had a shoulder dystocia during delivery, & Emily quickly & flawlessly resolved it, still allowing my husband to help catch him! Emily prepared us with all information we needed postpartum, & constantly checked in with us days after to make sure we were settling in okay & checking if we had any questions/concerns. I can not say enough wonderful things about Emily, & she is 100% the first midwife I would recommend reaching out to the moment you see those two lines (or sooner!!). My family has so much love for her, & I am genuinely sad this is our last baby, because I would do it 10x more with her by my side! read more

Emily is the most amazing person I have had the pleasure of meeting. I did not come into her care until my third trimester of my second daughter and when I say I wish I had made the decision so much sooner I am so serious!! The care I received from Emily is unlike anything I have ever experienced. She is so kind, compassionate, nurturing, funny, woke, sweet I could literally go on and on. Any positive word you can think of to describe a person, Emily is it. Not to mention KNOWLEDGEABLE!!! She helped me so much with recommending supplements that actually work without the ill side effects like the crap they give you in a doctors office. & when the time finally came for my sweet babe to be earthside Emily rushed over and got there just in time. & I am lucky she did! I ended up hemorrhaging which we were prepared for because I also did with my first. But Emily had it under control and made me feel so taken care of. I was not worried or stressed, I knew she could handle it. When I hemorrhaged with my first it was chaos and I was made to feel scared and overwhelmed. I did not feel that with Emily. The aftercare I received from Emily was wonderful as well. She not only cared for me for the 6 weeks after my birth but also my baby. It was so nice not to have to drag my new baby out to see a pediatrician! Emily was equipped to do the blood work we wanted done for her and all was great! She also made me the most beautiful cord keepsake and placenta art that i will cherish forever!! Emily even set up a meal train for me after I had my daughter I 100% will be having Emily at all my future births and to take care of my prenatal and postnatal care We love you so much Emily, I can not thank you enough for everything you have done for me read more

Since before we started trying for baby #1, I knew I wanted a homebirth. I started searching for a midwife as soon as I found out I was pregnant. I contacted multiple midwives that took a while getting back to me. After a couple weeks of being told that I wasn't in service range for most midwives I contacted, I went on Ohio Midwives Alliance and searched there. Emily was the first that popped up. I called her and got an immediate response and was able to set up an interview with her that same week. When we met Emily we immediately knew she was the one we wanted to help bring our child into the world. She was a rock for both me and my husband throughout my entire pregnancy. She focuses a-lot on preventative care and helped me stay low risk for homebirth. Our experience at doctors offices were like night & day when doing prenatal visits with Emily. She always made sure all our concerns and needs were met and was so uplifting to me when I was feeling discouraged. When it came time to bring baby earthside, she was such a wonderful presence in my birth space. She comforted me and most importantly, made sure that I was safe, as well as our baby. We had an emergency immediately postpartum and Emily handled it swiftly and efficiently before anyone had time to worry. Me and my baby are safe, happy, and healthy all thanks to Emily and the hard work I put in during my pregnancy. Because of Emily I was able to achieve the birth that I wanted, happy, safe, and trauma free. Emily has played such an important role in our lives and surpasses all as a care provider. I trust her and her skill and will choose her as my midwife again should baby #2 come along in the future. Much love for this Ohio Midwife!!!! read more

When I found out I was pregnant, I knew I wanted a home birth. After reaching out to a few midwives in my area, Emily Schultz stood out for her quick and responsive communication. My husband and I set up an appointment with her, eager to see if she'd be the right fit. From that first meeting, even though we didn't know anyone personally who'd had a home birth, we felt a deep sense of peace. Emily took the time to answer all our questions, from the small concerns to our larger reservations. As soon as we got in the car afterward, my husband and I looked at each other and agreed we didn't want anyone else to guide us through this journey. Throughout my pregnancy, Emily's care was exceptional. She was incredibly supportive and attentive, always ensuring that my body was getting the best nutrition and care for my growing baby. She also made a point to connect with my husband during appointments, checking in on how he was doing with everything as well. When it came time for the birth, Emily and her team provided outstanding care. They were efficient in their setup and attentive throughout the process. Emily was a calming presence, helping me feel comfortable and continuously checking on the baby. After the birth, she took the time to explain everything she was doing, giving me options and making sure I never felt rushed or pressured. Calling Emily just my midwife doesn't fully capture what she means to us. She has become so much more, and we will truly miss seeing her regularly. Emily will be my first choice for any future pregnancies, and I can't recommend her highly enough. You simply can't go wrong with her as your midwife. read more

We chose Emily as our home birth midwife for our 6th baby. I birthed my other 5 babies without intervention under the care of hospital-based midwives and although I did not have any bad experiences, I wanted something more. I didn't want to have to fight so hard for my right to decline unnecessary interventions that were "standard protocol" and I wanted to be left alone to labor in peace and quiet without unnecessary interruptions and audiences. I wanted to have my family close by and begin my recovery immediately at home. I also wanted to try to deliver my own baby. Giving birth with Emily as my midwife was everything I wanted it to be and more! My labor itself was longer and more painful than my previous labors due to baby's positioning, but being able to do it at home and be totally unbothered allowed me to stay so focused and calm that I was able to cope better than ever and really embrace the pain. Aside from some occasional fetal monitoring, Emily sat quietly across the room and gave me the space to work through labor with my husband and ultimately to hold my baby's head as she crowned and lift her to my chest on my own. I will always treasure this experience and be thankful to Emily for helping me to see my vision for birth become reality. After baby was born, she needed a little support with her breathing, and I needed a little support with heavy bleeding, and Emily handled both with calm confidence. She kept me fully informed every step of the way and I felt completely safe and cared for. I looked forward to my visits with Emily and I will miss her and her quality of care! read more

Emily is the best midwife in the entire world. I truly believe that. I got to her late in my pregnancy (23 weeks) and she still managed to build a strong, stable, and comfortable friendship with me to where I was perfectly able to give her my full trust the day of my birth. She is also THE most knowledgeable person I have EVER known. Do you have a strange itch? Do you have a weird feeling over here? Crazy dreams everynight? Lol she knows exactly why and the cure for it all. Emily is also SO down to earth. My Mama had not been able to attend a single one of my appointments with me at the place where I had originally planned to receive all medical assistance. Emily let my Mother and not just my Mama, but also my Dad to come to every appointment and not just them but a couple times one of sisters came to my appointments too and of course my husband always came as well. So she allowed for a full house. The day of my birth, Emily was absolutely perfect. She knew just what I needed exactly when I needed it. She gave me encouragements and wisdoms during the whole laboring time without being loud or in your face during contractions and such. She also was SO reassuring and comforting during anything that would come up. She is so very gentle with everything she does for you too. Emily kept all of my birth plan wants and wishes and went above and beyond to even making my placenta art for me when I was to weak to just after birth. She's just pure amazing and if you are considering her, please please know that she IS the one. I plan to go with her for every birth of mine from here on out. read more

I truly received the best health care of my life with Emily. Any expectations were far exceeded because she is so knowledgeable about so much and has an incredible network. Everyone should receive this kind of care throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. My experience with Emily and having a home birth could just not have been any better. She is such a kind person and will be your biggest cheerleader/hype man. Appointments are an hour long and she truly listens to you- how you're feeling, what you're wanting, and intuitively checks your vitals. I had lab work done 4 times under her care (always optional and specific to your needs) and the results were emailed and on my app the next day. She also sent direct links to any products or supplements needed on the spot. Even between appointments I received informative emails with links and resources. Emily is so, so knowledgeable and offers thoughtful answers and options to any question I asked. My labor was fast and Emily communicated the whole time and made it there and had everything I needed. I had a lot of bleeding and she handled it perfectly and still gave me options. I felt so safe and comfortable and was never worried at all. Things would have been so different for me in a hospital setting with this birth. This postpartum has been a night and day difference from my first baby and I have to attribute it to my care this time around and my body being balanced. I feel so great! Highly recommend anyone to have a home birth and I would have a really hard time believing there is anyone better than Emily. read more

I can't even express how much Emily means to me. We chose her as our midwife for my second pregnancy. After a really hard hospital birth with my first, we knew we wanted to try a different route the next time. Before I was even pregnant with my second baby, I scheduled a consultation with Emily. I knew how fast she books out so I wanted to reach out as soon as possible. When I finally got pregnant with our second baby, I was OVERJOYED that Emily had availability and took me on as a client. From the start of my pregnancy to now in the weeks postpartum, Emily has been the BEST to work with. She was so thorough in evaluating my health and where I was at. She was amazing at guiding me in the right direction to supporting my body so that I could have a low risk and healthy pregnancy. Each visit I had with her was so fun. The appointments were long and gave ample opportunity for her and I to get to know each other and so that she could really evaluate my health and baby's health. In all of my care with her, I never once felt rushed or not cared about. I am beyond grateful to have had her by my side during the birth itself. She was such a calm presence. I had full trust in her and I was confident in her abilities to attend to my birth and anything that needed addressed during it. Emily is living out her purpose so beautifully. Where to even begin, Emily is such an amazing human being I couldn't imagine going through my first unmedicated homebirth with anyone other than her, and if there are more pregnancies in the future I couldn't do it without her. Emily is beautiful in so many ways, she is so loving and supportive, professional and incredibly knowledgeable. The prenatal care was unlike any care I have ever received. So in depth and I actually felt heard and cared for. I loved her approach to naturally go about any pregnancy symptoms I was experiencing with natural supplements and nutrition. We were able to have such a beautiful and powerful homebirth. 3 days later and I'm still on cloud nine with how everything went. She was perfect at calming and supporting me. (And the routine for after baby and the clean up- she has the perfect system down, so quiet and proficient it was like they were never in our home) I am forever grateful for the universe putting Emily in our lives to be there with us on this special journey. If you or your spouse is on the fence with homebirth, talk to Emily and I guarantee you will feel so comfortable just like we did so that we could have this experience. As an emergency nurse and paramedic husband we had alot of questions and hesitations, just due to what we have learned with out professions, before we talked with Emily. And now we have a totally different outlook on pregnancy and birth. And we can thank Emily for that! read more

Emily has provided us with professional, competent, evidence-based perinatal care in welcoming 2 new babies to our family. She is honest, encouraging, and respectful. I chose to work with a community midwife and plan home births for both pregnancies because I wanted continuity of care and trust in my ability to be informed and make reasonable decisions for myself. It is important to me to balance trust in my body's innate ability to grow and birth a baby with the technology and medical information available to us in order to minimize unnecessary interventions while still ensuring the health and safety of me and my babies. There were times when Emily had to deliver difficult news to me, and during those times, she made clear and understandable professional recommendations while providing me with up-to-date information, fully respecting whatever decision I wanted to make. Our first baby arrived at home and the second in the hospital after an emergent transfer. Both were very different, very positive experiences during which I remained empowered and resulted in 2 beautiful healthy additions to our family. Emily is respected by other healthcare professionals in our community and I received seamless care, was never left feeling alone, and was always believed, supported, and uplifted during some of my life's biggest challenges. Cannot recommend highly enough. read more
