This review if purely for the snack bar. I got the chicken sandwich and the patty was one of those frozen rubbery hormone filled tasting flat chicken breast patties. The sandwich tasted overwhelmingly of pickles, the lettuce was stale and the bread was dry. My husband and father moderately liked their food. The tomatoes on the side salad were delicious and plentiful. The pictures make it look good! But it's not that good. The onion rings were deliciously fried I'll say. read more

After checking the schedule and finding the perfect day to escape the heat and take a nice dip in the pool. I show up to Ojai Valley Athletic Club to purchase a day pass. Only to be shown complete disrespect. It's perfectly fine that day passes are not sold any more, but the way the Front Lady looked me up and down and said " This is a private club that you are not apart of", really upset me. Fine by me I don't wanna be apart of you uptight, overpriced vulgar "private club". Sounds like a cult to me ‍ read more

As we haven't yet forked out for a family membership, my experience of the club comes from having my tennis racket restrung here. And altogether I'm dissuaded from pursuing membership. Tennis Director Steve Beckendorf is an absolute gent, offering timely restrings for a very reasonable rate. I've had interactions with other staff members, such as Jake, go wonderfully. HOWEVER, General Manager Ryan Gaston was, in comparison, unpleasant to deal with. When I presented my racket for restringing (wearing a mask, of course), upon learning I was not a member he was downright hostile, unwilling to put the racket by with a note to Steve. He seemed to have an issue with me so much as standing inside the club at the service counter and declared that as a non-member I had to stand outside the club while I prepared information (about string tension) for Steve. Just a couple of minutes later when I reentered the club I was served by a delightful member of staff. GM's conduct was a let down to the overall standard of customer service--and not the first occasion I have heard of this. read more

I was excited to go to the athletic club and get a sick leg pump. I walked up to the front counter and asked for a day pass. I was greeted with the question "are you a local or out of town"? Which in my head didn't make sense. I kindly replied "am a local". The manager Rayan Gaston told me I needed a member or had to be out of town to get a day pass. I was confused since all I wanted was to go there for ONLY ONE DAY. Needless to say I walked out disappointed at there business model towards Ojai locals. Numerous tennis and pickle ball courts spread under the oaks, sycamores and palms with wide expanses of green lawn and meandering creeks make it beautiful. Inside are some fine athletic instructors for everything from swimming to pilates. This is one of the most comprehensive athletic facilities I've known and it meets my expectations and then some. Unfortunately, the short-term possibilities detailed in older reviews are no longer available and there is no flexibility whatsoever. I've been a member of the Athletic Club for many, many years and I love this place! The staff is very accommodating, kind, and helpful. I'm currently doing private training with Sarah Houseman, she's awesome. Danielle Wommack, the athletic director is very kind, dedicated to her work and her community. The other day I witnessed another member who was not very kind to Danielle when Danielle had to enforce a club rule. Danielle was very professional, the lady was very rude and the whole time Danielle was very kind. Maybe there should be more signs that post the rules so that Danielle doesn't have to police people, it's not fair to her. read more

I became a member here when I moved to Ojai 3 years ago. Since that time, I have had to deal with months of remodeling in the Ladies' Locker Room (yes, that means months of using an outdoor bathroom), the lap pool being closed during the hottest time of the year for resurfacing, and the AC being broken for days in the upstairs cardio room. Doing exercise in the Group Fitness Room is like doing hot yoga plus cardio, as the AC barely works there as well. The Club is also overrun by non-members: teenagers from the Tennis Academy, swim team and swim lesson families, etc. Good luck finding a parking spot during Swim Team practice, even as a full paying member! In short, unless you absolutely need the Tennis or Pilates aspects of the Club, join somewhere else. The Pilates program is superb here and that is why I stick around. But the place is over-priced and inconsiderate to its members' needs. read more

The big outdoor pool is really beautiful, and they only way to ruin that is to close it. Which they did. For weeks. The service staff are mostly extremely friendly and sweet. Higher up management is distinctly uncharming. Very sparse yoga (the yoga dude is hilarious, chill, and wonderful, but he's hardly there.) and other activities are on the slow roll and mostly accommodate the upper middle class housewife that forms the core demo here. No shade on her (or her househusband covalent) but it makes for poor conversation in the hot tubs... We'd recommend you look elsewhere for country clubs -- and as for gyms, look elsewhere, too. The place is very 1975. We've moved over to a yoga center, which is more our style -- people-wise and service-wise. This is old school country club with a 'k'. read more

Super friendly staff and very clean facility. I was a guest of a member but treated like a member. The pool is fantastic !

I have been a member here for almost a year and I am less than satisfied. If there were anywhere else in town where my kids could swim anytime they want, I would cancel this membership in a heartbeat. 1) Not only did we pay a ridiculous initiation fee, we also pay over $200 a month. 2) My children are 8 and 10 years old and are too old for the provided childcare, but are too young to be left alone anywhere. 3) There are only FOUR TREADMILLS! Honestly, you have a room full of elliptical machines but only four treadmills, not including the one that is ALWAYS broken downstairs. 4) I work an 8-5 job and there are NO options for group classes in the morning. Unless you want to do a spin class with an instructor playing 70s folk music. Nope! 5) The entire focus of the facility are the elderly and the tennis academy. The majority of group classes are geared toward the elderly and the children from the tennis academy take over the weight rooms with no regard for anyone else using the facility. The only pro at this facility is the pool. It is heated and clean and, over the summer, it is staffed with lifeguards. If not for the pool, I would have cancelled this membership months ago. read more

This is a versatile gym with intensive tennis and swimming programs. That said, I enjoy the diverse set of aerobic classes particularly the spinning classes upstairs with Corkey. She is a wonderful instructor with great nutritional insights and she keeps you motivated. With this in mind, she has her own small group class which is a "ball buster" so to speak, but it's extremely effective. On the weekends, it's nice to swim laps in the Olympic size pools or lay poolside while enjoying a beer or two and marveling at the Topa's. read more

Billie Jean King said that tennis was "a perfect combination of violent action taking place in an atmosphere of total tranquility." She must have been talking about the Ojai Valley Athletic Club. This place is a tennis paradise-peaceful, understated and woodsy. You cross a small footbridge over a natural stream to access the courts. The whole place is serene in a way you only really find in beautiful Ojai Valley. I can't wait to come back to play another match here. read more

I love this club! I first came here over a decade ago, when visiting my dad who lives nearby. At the time, I was able to use this club on a reciprocal agreement with my health club at the time. Now they have a temporary use offer, so you can pay a reasonable rate - slightly more than a membership, of course - for a day, a week or a month at a time if you are just visiting. Most of all, I love that the two pools are outdoors (yay Ojai weather!) and I especially love that the dedicated lap pool is ozonated instead of chlorinated (the hot tubs, baby pool and recreational pool are chlorinated). They provide towels, lockers, and shampoo/conditioner/body wash in the showers. The change rooms have a sauna, and a water extractor for wet swimsuits (this is actually a deal breaker for me when it comes to swimming pools - I hate having to figure out what to do with a dripping-wet swimsuit in the car on the way home!). There is a very nice adults-only lounge area where you can relax and read or catch up on emails. Even as a visitor, I attended one member event last fall, the Halloween party, and they had good live music and yummy food, and super-friendly members who were happy to chat with someone from out of town. The staff are all so friendly all the time, and very helpful. The club is clean, fresh and feels welcoming. There is lots of parking available for both the club and the Weil tennis academy which is located next door. The gym area is certianly not the biggest, but unless I accidentally hit the after-work evening rush, I've never had to wait long for machines, and it's always clean. They also have rooms for workout classes (I've never tried), and of course they are also a tennis club with amazing facilities - but I haven't played tennis since I was on my middle school's tennis team, so I'll leave it to tennis types to review those more particularly. read more

Beautiful, clean facility staffed with smiling friendly people. Took my first Zumba class here and it was challenging! Very nice gym packed with state of the art exercise machines. If you like tennis, this is the place....Clay and hard courts and lots of them. read more

Wow, for a town of 8,000 they know their health clubs. Huge and pricey (over a $100 a month for single membership) But this is royalty. Huge pools, great locker rooms, free towels, and big on tennis. I took one class ("On The Ball") and it was packed. The instructor kicked our arses and made us work. Variety of people come here and a huge selection of classes to chose from. read more

I worked here. I got a free membership that i never used because I was so sick of seeing the same people all the time, but it is very nice. They recently remodeled. I had been going here for swim team since I was little. They have two different pools, one for kids and one for swimmers. They also have many tennis courts ( used to be The Raquett club) and a whole gym area. They also have a picnic area and a place for basketball and V-ball. It has a community feel here, people come to hang out. I know why the price is so high.. it's like home away from home. You can send the kids here all day and they are safe and have many activities to keep them active. read more

Traveled here for a wedding and needed a solid place to workout. This place had exactly what I needed in terms of machines to lift on.

I was able to get a one-day guest pass from the Emerald Iguana while staying there over Thanksgiving weekend. It's a beautiful club. I only used the pool and hung out in the pool area and the lounge, but both were wonderful. The water was clean, and there are many lap lanes for lap swimmers. The pools are outdoors and the scenery is dreamy. Go for it if you're in Ojai and you get tired of the new age stuff. A good old swim or workout -- you can't find a better place than this. read more
