Loved this place will definitely be back!!!! I am Americanized Nigerian- some know what that means Since I don't have immediate access to free Nigerian meals this place is a great substitute. Everything that I ordered was good. I probably won't order the okra stew anymore not enough okra for my liking but that's just a personal issue ‍. Loved the ambiance and the service was great. Ordered my food for 2pm and I think I only had to wait 20 minutes which is not bad compared to other African restaurants I have tried.

Olamide kitchen is a quaint new African restaurant in New Jersey. I have been hearing a lot of positive reviews on this place and decided to check it out. Upon arrival you are required to have a mask on. In addition you have to have your mask on at your table which is different but they are covid conscious. Stephanie was our waiter and was super friendly and working really hard by herself ! She did an amazing job! I order meat pie and puff puff for small chops , meat pie was great puff puff they ran out. For entree I order waakye with turkey stew. This was above average! They didn't do it like traditional Ghanaians with the spaghetti and egg but the dish was pleasant. I also had the gizdodo and it was a great add on. The pepper soup could have been way more spicy hence the name. Overall thus Neal was delicious, I will 100% be back

The best part about living in the USA is the beautiful melting pot of people and food. I love the fact that I can walk out my door and with a quick drive have my choice of American, Indian, Italian, Chinese, Korean, Greek and even African food (plus a lot more). Olaide's is set in one of the most seriously food diverse strip malls I've ever seen in NJ. You can find everything from Chinese, Italian, Arabic, Indian and now African food in this small strip mall. There is a lot packed into this tiny strip mall but when I arrived with my husband around 12:30 for lunch we had no issue parking. Olaide's recently opened just three weeks ago and is beautiful and modern inside. There are bench seats along the window and plenty of tables spread throughout. Our waitress was great and took the time to explain the food to us and how they eat with their hands. She brought over a bowl of water to wash our hands before and after. I decided to stick with a fork but my husband dug right in with his hands. Food was delicious and very reasonably priced for the portion sizes we received. They also have some Jamaican sodas and are byob. We enjoyed trying out something new. I look forward to coming in again and eating something a little more adventurous than chicken and rice :)

Food was really good! It wasn't my first time trying African cuisine but it was my bf's first time and I'm glad I chose this place based on the reviews. He loved it and so did I. If you are sensitive to spicy foods I honestly wouldn't recommend because the two dishes I ordered were spicy. I had the Ghanaian jollaf rice and it was delicious and I will be back to try the Nigerian version. The stew fish was spicier than the sautéed fried fish. Both very enjoyable and the mashed beans were really good.

    Frozen and stale ogbono

The service is horrible. I was served cold eba after waiting over 55mins. It was a terrible experience and the weekend ogbono was frozen without prior notice and the Jollof rice that was part of my order was missing and I got billed for it. I called back immediately I realised and the lady (Kay) tried to say i was lying about everything. It's the audacity for me. I drove 50mins to get food only to get this kind of service. This is definitely my last time ordering or eating from here. I'm sure going to dispute this with my bank such a horrible experience

Authentic African food, dodo gizzards were delicious. Rice had some kick to it. Small menu, priced very reasonably!!! If you are looking to try something different, this is the spot.

What a treat to try their Ayamase and Jollof rice!! One of the few homestyle African restaurants around - seamless pickup/delivery services and very well packaged. Great to try something new!

Decided to check out this newly opened restaurant on their opening day. The food was spectacular! A lot of flavor and spice. Service was a little slow but food was definitely worth the wait. Excited to see this new place blossom. Go check it out!!

Fantastic place to eat. Small and compact but the food was delicious. It's just very far from me. I would still travel for 2 hours just for the food.

I was excited when I saw an African restaurant had opened up in Woodbridge Mall as they are not common in the area and I am a big fan of having diverse culinary choices. I also like supporting mom and pop businesses, so I walked in with lots of enthusiasm - which vanished fairly quickly. At first, I was actually a bit amused. The furniture looks like it was meant for a different business with big pink chairs and a decor that felt a bit more "Alice in Wonderland" than I had expected. I then looked behind the counter and there was a man there who looked up, looked at me, kind of made a resigned sigh then...went back to looking at his phone. Um...okay? I walked up to the counter and tried to figure out what I was going to order. I asked the man about a menu and he made a subtle nod at the paper menu pile and then got up and walked to the back, as if I was really bugging him. A lady then came out and I thought "Okay, maybe she'll help me?" Yeah, no. I started asking about the menu and she explained nothing, only giving me some really irritated looks. The problem is, the menu had no descriptions or prices. It was hard to tell if you did a "build a bowl/meal" type thing or just ordered a "#1 or #2" etc. Finally I decided to just choose some beef tripe and rice and roll with it. Interestingly, as I stood there I checked in to Yelp via the app, and I'm guessing she saw this because when I looked up she was suddenly smiling as she handed me my food, asking me to visit again. I wound up taking the food home and...it was terrible. The tripe was SO tough. The rice was...okay but the flavor didn't really grab me. The Fufu included with the meal was...very odd in flavor. It tasted almost like herbal medicine which was strange. I have had Fufu at a restaurant in Union before and it tasted nothing like this. I generally try to find the positive in places I go to, but between the disdainful service and the quality of the food, I cannot in good conscience recommend this place, a fact that makes me very sad.

The jollof rice was very good, with a mild smokiness and good flavor from the peppers. The price I…read morepaid was a little high for the portion ($15+tax). Service was friendly and took maybe 10 minutes from placing my order to being ready. The menu on grubhub is much easier to read because it was challenging using their paper menu and sign board in store. Ambiance inside was antiquated but okay. Clearly a to go place even inside the Woodbridge mall on a busy Saturday.

When we were toddlers, it was natural to eat with our hands…read more But as soon as we managed to hold a fork and spoon, we were expected to use utensils. As children and adults, using your hands to eat was frowned upon. Fried chicken and a few other dishes were exceptions. Although, to be honest, I'm one of the few people in the world who grew up eating fried chicken with a knife and fork. Let me introduce you to Ethiopian food, where utensils aren't usually used. I guess you could call it a hands on experience. The best way to experience it in central New Jersey is at Dashen Ethiopian Cuisine in New Brunswick. https://www.dashenethiopiannj.com/ Dashen, managed by a husband and wife team - Alemayehu Hailu and Tsigereda Lemlemayehu, also offers a full bar and a big screen TV for sports events. It is a delightful place for a special meal. They also do catering. The meal starts with injera - a spongy, fermented flatbread that is spread over a large serving plate. The other foods are placed on top of this sort of sour dough bread. All of the dishes - meats and vegetables - are well cooked with fragrant sauces. They are served with a pile of folded injera. How do you eat it? You rip off a piece of injera and use it to grab some meats or vegetables or scoop them up. Then you pop it into your mouth. The sourly fermented bread and other dishes make a great combination. Whether you go for meat or vegetables, the keys here are the spices. There's a chicken dish called Doro Wot. It is simmered in a special spice sauce with onions, garlic and ginger. And served with a hard boiled egg. There are dishes of cubed beef and ground beef, and lamb. There's a lamb stew called Yebeg Alicha with onions, garlic, ginger, peppers, turmeric and other spices. The same spices can be applied to a fish fillet, salmon or shrimp. But my favorites are the vegetables. There's Misir Wot, split lentils simmered with special spices, onions, garlic, tomatoes and ginger. Gomen is collard greens with onions, spices, garlic, ginger, tomatoes and jalapenos. Tikal Gomen is cabbage with the same spice combination. Kik Wot is yellow split peas cooked with garlic, ginger, tomatoes and special spices. Dinich Alicha looks like a mixed vegetable plate with potatoes, carrots, string beans, garlic, ginger, tomatoes and spices. The food can be very spicy or quite mild. Talk to your server so you order the dishes that are to your taste. The best way to eat Ethiopian food is on a combination plate. Go with a small group of friends. Have a combination plate of meat dishes. Order another combination plate of vegetarian dishes. That will give you eight to 10 different dishes to sample. Different beans and meats and vegetables. There's a variety of textures and flavors. And eat it slowly. In fact, don't just eat it. Savor it. Really enjoy each delicious taste. Eating Ethiopian food at Dashen is not just a meal. It's an experience. You can get takeout or delivery. But it is so much better in the restaurant. I urge you to get out of your culinary rut and visit Dashen. Dashen Ethiopian Restaurant & Bar 88 Albany Street, New Brunswick, NJ 08901 732-249-0494 They are closed Mondays.

When you get to the church, just follow the footpath to the right and enter--either follow your nose or the sounds of kitchen items and people and you should have no problem finding it! Every day, they have a different menu depending on which chef is working (there are chefs from India, Syria, Jamaica, Uganda and Indonesia!). Their food is super delicious with very fresh ingredients and the prices are very awesome. A lunch entree is $5, and if you want salad+soup, that'll run you $5 as well ($3 for salad, $2 for soup). They also have assorted pastries (cookies, scones, blondies, brownies, specialty bars [e.g. raspberry almond / apricot walnut / derby bar) that range from $1.50-2.50. They also serve fair trade coffee for one dollah! I got the Congolese Chicken + Cabbage with rice + potatoes and a side salad the first time I went. The second time, I got a trio of salads (beet salad, Congolese slaw, and cucumber salad) that came with pita bread. I've also tried their apricot walnut bar + derby bar.
