I wanted to try some African food so I tried the special which was $20. It was basically a plate full of rice with a couple of pieces of dried beef. It was not good at all. I also got the stew with turkey which I'm not sure what part of the turkey it was, but that was also very dry and it did not look like turkey. My bill was over $40 and for the amount of food it was definitely not worth it. I think because they don't have much competition the prices are high. I won't be returning! read more

Loved this place will definitely be back!!!! I am Americanized Nigerian- some know what that means Since I don't have immediate access to free Nigerian meals this place is a great substitute. Olamide kitchen is a quaint new African restaurant in New Jersey. I have been hearing a lot of positive reviews on this place and decided to check it out. Upon arrival you are required to have a mask on. In addition you have to have your mask on at your table which is different but they are covid conscious. Stephanie was our waiter and was super friendly and working really hard by herself ! She did an amazing job! I order meat pie and puff puff for small chops , meat pie was great puff puff they ran out. For entree I order waakye with turkey stew. This was above average! They didn't do it like traditional Ghanaians with the spaghetti and egg but the dish was pleasant. I also had the gizdodo and it was a great add on. The best part about living in the USA is the beautiful melting pot of people and food. I love the fact that I can walk out my door and with a quick drive have my choice of American, Indian, Italian, Chinese, Korean, Greek and even African food (plus a lot more). Olaide's is set in one of the most seriously food diverse strip malls I've ever seen in NJ. You can find everything from Chinese, Italian, Arabic, Indian and now African food in this small strip mall. There is a lot packed into this tiny strip mall but when I arrived with my husband around 12:30 for lunch we had no issue parking. Olaide's recently opened just three weeks ago and is beautiful and modern inside. There are bench seats along the window and plenty of tables spread throughout. Our waitress was great and took the time to explain the food to us and how they eat with their hands. She brought over a bowl of water to wash our hands before and after. I decided to stick with a fork but my husband dug right in with his hands. Food was delicious and very reasonably priced for the portion sizes we received. They also have some Jamaican sodas and are byob. We enjoyed trying out something new. Food was really good! It wasn't my first time trying African cuisine but it was my bf's first time and I'm glad I chose this place based on the reviews. He loved it and so did I. If you are sensitive to spicy foods I honestly wouldn't recommend because the two dishes I ordered were spicy. I had the Ghanaian jollaf rice and it was delicious and I will be back to try the Nigerian version. The stew fish was spicier than the sautéed fried fish. The service is horrible. I was served cold eba after waiting over 55mins. It was a terrible experience and the weekend ogbono was frozen without prior notice and the Jollof rice that was part of my order was missing and I got billed for it. I called back immediately I realised and the lady (Kay) tried to say i was lying about everything. It's the audacity for me. I drove 50mins to get food only to get this kind of service. This is definitely my last time ordering or eating from here. I'm sure going to dispute this with my bank such a horrible experience read more

There was a little wait but I can say the food looked and smelled delicious. My husband was full while eating but continued eating because the food was so good. I'm a frequent traveler and when I travel, I like to look for Nigerian restaurants. Found this one visiting Jersey. This is a pretty amazing spot. Ordered takeout from here for a couple days and the food was amazing. The egusi was great the first day. Got Jollof rice and plantains the next day and that was equally fantastic. Decided to eat in the next day and ordered Ayamashe. Also great. The atmosphere was clean and Tosin was super nice and helpful. Definitely heading back here when I'm back in Jersey read more

Ordered Giz-DoDo, the flavor was explosive, delicious. But, the gizzards were chopped so small and only 3 pieces in it. Not even the size of 1 gizzard or half of one. I only had plantains. When they first opened the restaurant this dish was loaded with gizzards. Very disappointed they would serve a dish without the main ingredient. Asked young lady who worked there to recommend rice dish. she recommended Jollof Rice, it was extremely tasty. The perfect amount of spice and seasonings. Ate here today for the first time on my lunch break. The food was great. I had the sautéed fish with Nigerian style joloff rice. I saw this place on my way to the pharmacy one day and decided to swing in one day. I'm so glad I did. I'll definitely be coming back to try other items on the menu. Update For Owner: I just reviewed my receipt ( I have no problem uploading the screen shot ma'am). I replaced the fish with meat with the Waakye. You broke down what you'll get on the menu, so there is no cofusion and the portion is pretty ridiculous considering the amount of rice you put in the bowl. I read the menu VERY well, how else would I have contemplated ordering?? What I found odd is that you are fighting what I got instead of the QUALITY of the food you sent me. That being said, lm from NYC where alot of African restaurants stay true to their recipes NO MATTER THEIR LOCATION, that's what makes it fresh and authentic. Serving bland food to appeal to "others" doesn't make any sense at all. I would recommend adjusting the level of pepper or spices to accommodate other people, like most restaurants. I have tried suya from other Nigerian & Ghanaian restaurants and this is my opinion based on what I know as a African myself. WOW WOW WOW I've never had customer service this good. I called Olaide restaurant a few days before my graduation to ask if I can bring a large party to eat dinner after the graduation. I also asked if they can stay a few hours after closing time because I knew we wouldn't be finished by their closing time of 9pm. The discussed arrival time was 7pm. I'm not really sure why we thought we would get there at 7pm. lol. Because of traffic, we ended up arriving to Olaide at 8:20pm. I called them several times to let them know we were running late and at no point did they sound upset. When we arrived, to my surprised there was a section marked "Reserved" and the table was already set. Eh!!!! The food was authentic Nigerian food, the customer service throughout the night was superb and we are so happy that we chose to drive an hour and a half to get to Olaide during rush hour. Their closing time is 9pm but we ended up leaving at 10:20pm. They did not seem inpatient at all and waited while we finished giving speeches and taking pictures.
