I placed an order of Jollof with fried rice and salad, Waakye with goat meat, spaghetti and rice, kelewele (fried tiny bits of plantains in pepper spice) and a side order of fried fish. I was attended by Esther, very nice lady, very welcoming. The food was good, I decided to give it a 2nd try days later. I only wish they gave a good amount of meat with the meal but I do recommend this place. Great food and the restaurant if very clean.

I was told you know it's a legit place since inside, there's hanging one of the most common Ghanaian house decorations, the wall mat with the famous woman smiling from ear to ear, holding a vessel and a large bowl. This place is definitely a hole in the wall, resembling more of a closet on the side of a building than an actual eatery. It's cash only, be prepared, and also you might have to ring the doorbell since the guy isn't always there attentive waiting at the door. Prices were fair for what they were offering. We got the Banku with okra soup and Waakye with goat meat. Both were legit, according to my friend, and reminded him of home so much that he closed his eyes. He said we definitely need to go back.

This tiny unassuming African spot on the Main Street in Springfield is one such establishment. If you asked me where the very best grilled chicken I could have is I would point you here and tell you to ignore the fact that it was African, if you asked me for the very best African food I would say there are many great places and this is one of the absolute best! Karen, the owner and chef and Emanuel her brother are kind and well versed in hospitality, a fact that her formal and informal training will prove if you are fortunate enough to meet them. The spices, the smells and the flavors are what Africa is known for and the first thing they will tell you is that everything is cooked to order so don't expect it to just be ready but I promise you it's worth twice the amount of time (it wasn't too long by the way) and you truly feel as though you have been invited into their home. With no hyperbole this is not just some of the very best African food I've had it's some of the very best food I've ever had and I cannot wait to return.

Global Grace Cafe is located inside the Quilt Room or the social hall of the Reformed Church of Highland Park. When you get to the church, just follow the footpath to the right and enter--either follow your nose or the sounds of kitchen items and people and you should have no problem finding it! Every day, they have a different menu depending on which chef is working (there are chefs from India, Syria, Jamaica, Uganda and Indonesia!). Their food is super delicious with very fresh ingredients and the prices are very awesome. A lunch entree is $5, and if you want salad+soup, that'll run you $5 as well ($3 for salad, $2 for soup). They also have assorted pastries (cookies, scones, blondies, brownies, specialty bars [e.g. raspberry almond / apricot walnut / derby bar) that range from $1.50-2.50. They also serve fair trade coffee for one dollah! I got the Congolese Chicken + Cabbage with rice + potatoes and a side salad the first time I went. The second time, I got a trio of salads (beet salad, Congolese slaw, and cucumber salad) that came with pita bread. I've also tried their apricot walnut bar + derby bar. You can't really go wrong with any of the food here since it's all super tasty! :] I really wish I could come here more often, but I like being able to pop in when I can! It reminds me of the Better World Cafe (which I was only able to go to once)!

Volunteers from different countries serve as the chef (I just happened to drop by on one fine Friday day and the food is Syrian, but I was told there was Indonesian and African/Nigerian cooking from time to time). We volunteered at the kitchen from time to time in the past but I never really actually ate at this cafe myself before. You eat in the dining hall of the church and the volunteers serve the food on a plate and add whatever salad/side combination you request right there. For 5-6 bucks, you'll get a delicious and fresh plate (except, unfortunately, the fruit, but it's forgivable). The chicken with cilantro or yogurt with bulgur on the side is well cooked, including the delicious potato salad side. If you'd like to surprise yourself with whatever exotic variety is available for your lunch (...and support a good cause), this is the place for you!
